This is probably the worst written book I have ever read. The author obviously understands the topic but it is one thing to know a subject and another thing to teach it. I am a physician and I have read my share of books.

A classic and definitive guide, but needs updating.......2002-08-22

This book, published in 1993, is now a classic and the definitive guide to trading LEAPS. It provides an excellent introduction to LEAPS and takes the pain to explain how LEAPS differ from traditional options. If you already have knowledge of options, this book will be a breeze to you, thanks to the author's lucid and humorous writing style. Do keep in mind that LEAPS are more than just longer-term options; pricing them using BS, for example, would be quite wrong.

Which brings us to the drawback of this book from the early 90s. Much as changed to LEAPS -- the demand, the valuation methods, the trading mechanics -- since 1993, and this book would have remained great had it been updated. As it stands, you should definitely use it in conjunction with the web to make sure you get the latest info on these securities.

One last thing: if you are set on trading LEAPS, make sure your broker can accommodate it. My online broker is great for trading options, but it turns out they won't allow LEAPS for accounts less than $50k, which include mine.

In short, I recommend this book highly as a primer to LEAPS. Read it from cover to cover and make sure you duly understand all the RISKS involved, not just the potential gains. Good luck!

Humour and inredible knowledge 2in1.......2002-04-01

LEAPS is a helpful manual and it can be followed by readers who have basic knowledge on options. Roth analyzes in a very vivid and enjoyable way LEAPS and offers to the investor all the necessary background. I really enjoyed reading it.

A Well Written Book.......2000-08-19

This book is clearly written and was well worth buying. I wish I could benefit further from this man's work and knowledge, but unfortunately he died several years ago.

If You Trade Options, This is a Must-Read Book.......2000-04-08

I read everything I can get my hands on. No matter how you choose to trade options (buying, selling, spreading, stradling) you will find insight in these easy-to-read pages. Although written with the LEAPs investor in mind, ALL of this book is applicable to shorter term option trades. The author's clarity is superb, and includes excellent examples. I have used the LEAPS Money Generator and covered straddles (chapter 13) with 1 and 2 month options with great success. Don't pass up this book on options because of the L (for long-term)in its title. You can apply every technique to any time frame! The bonus is that if you never considered LEAPS option trades, I think you will find a new respect and use for them in your trading plan.

Splendid.......2003-06-04

A funny, entertaining and helpful book. Describes everything you need to know about everything one might ever want to steal. Particularly recommended to anybody ever caught, so it will never happen again. The chapter on EAS systems is by now a bit outdated, but that's the only (minor) drawback. Relevant homepages will make up for this drawback. Worth every (easily "recovered") penny it costs.

S(h)elf Help Guide, To get caught shoplifting........1999-12-13

This book is only an overview of tactics that only the worst shoplifter would use. As a member of a loss control team at a department store, I found the tactics talked about in this book to be juvinile. If these tactics were used you are going to end up in a loss control office and in the back of a police car. The books interpitation of store regulations on shoplifting don't take into account how we catch shoplifters, we don't always follow the store regulations. His interpitation of how loss control teams work are incorrect, his knowledge of security camera opperation is also no where near correct. This book is worth a few laughs, but not worth reading if you want to start shoplifting. The book is poorly researched and developed. Offering little knowledge into shoplifting.

Incisive Social Satire Packs Clever Punch.......1999-08-25

Caime and Ghone's book has an honoured place next to my toilet. It never fails to elicit giggles, guffaws and knowing nods. Every social worker, cop, and public servant should own this book. It is a soothing balm for bruises caused by irrational, ultra conservative, right wing, fundamentalist extremists. And it is encouragement for thoughtful humanitarians.

This is an outrageous but very entertaining book about the crazy antics of petty criminals. Never mind the shoplifting, read it for the laughs

Waste of money.......1999-03-23

The book is a waste of money to all but the idiotic beginning shoplifter who wishes to be caught. The ideas of the fictitious Caime & Ghone (came and gone)are as simplistic and unoriginal as their names. Loss prevention agents can learn more and more accurate information in one month on the job than by wasting the cost of the book. Experienced thieves would find the information unhelpfull and potentially dangerous to their careers.

Grow'g up w/traumatized parents makes 4 moving literature.......2002-05-01

Published just in time for Passover, the holiday of freedom, Melvin Jules Bukiet (STRANGE FIRE, NEUROTICA, SIGNS AND WONDERS, Professor at Sarah Lawrence) has collected some of the works of the children of Shoah survivors, the Second Gen'ers, the "2G." I was drawn to this book by its cover art, in which the sign over the gates to Auschwitz reads "NOTHING MAKES YOU FREE" instead of the actual "WORK MAKES YOU FREE/Arbeit Macht Frei". Included in the book are pieces in English and those translated into English from Italian, French, Serbian, Swedish, Hebrew, German, and Hungarian. Although these adult "CHILDREN" grew up around the world, they carry a common literary burden and can spot each other in crowded rooms. Bukiet (the son of number 108016) asks "how atrocity gets filtered through imagination." This collection helps to answer it. He writes that if the Holocaust is a historic Rorschach blot, in it the depressive can justify despair, the hopeful can find redemption, and the stupid can discern the triumph of the spirit. The collected authors grew up as children of a nightmare, children of the khurban that "is a black hole that devours the light." Bukiet explains that they lived with parents that had numbers tattooed on their arms; parents who saw their kids as replacements for murdered family members; parents whose Yiddish language was now as dead as Sanskrit; parents who appreciated life having known death (or resigned themselves to suicide); parents with cauterized tear ducts; and parents who never wasted food at the dinner table, having known hunger intimately. Their parents lived with the aftermath of atrocity and passed on these psyches to their 2G-Second Generation children (either through speaking of it always or never speaking of it). Many of the 2G authors are rage filled, angry, cynical, and distrustful. And This makes for good writing.

The authors included in the collection are, in Part 1: Carl Friedman, Eva Hoffman, Victoria Reel, Tammie Bob, Ruth Knafo Setton, Goran Rosenberg, Doron Rabinovici, Alan Kaufman, and Barbara Finkelstein; in Part 2: Savyon Liebrecht, JJ Steinfeld, Thane Rosenbaum, Henri Raczymov, Sonia Pilcer, Lily Brett, Val Vinokurov, Helena Janaczek, Esther Dischereit, and cartoonist Art Spiegelman; and in Part 3: Anne Karpf, Lea Anini, Gila Lustiger, Joseph Skibell, Leon De Winter, Alcina Lubitch Domecq, Mihaly Kornis, Peter Singer, David Albahari, Alain Finkielkraut, and the editor Melvin Jules Bukiet. I recommend that you read the authors' brief bios before starting to read the collected works. Not included are authors like David Lehman and David Curzon, who identify as 2G, but whose parents escaped Vienna in 1939; and the journalist, Joseph Berger (Displaced Persons), since he were born slightly prior to May 7, 1945.
