Gary is an expert in the field of index funds and ETF's. The book is a critical review of the products on the market to use passive investing techniques.The book however lacks clear direction for the average investor as compared to a book I recently added to my investing library.

I also recommend a little book titled How to Make Money in the Stock Market-Buy 2,500 different stocks for $1000 - Pay no Commission This book is a must for those wanting to find out about indexing (passive investing) and why it is the superior method for the small investor (and big one too). This book is an outstanding guide to personal investing. It will be useful to all investors from novices to highly the highly experienced. This book prepares the reader to approach investing from the standpoint of the underlying science. It is the antithesis of a 'get rich quick scheme'.How to Make Money in the Stock Market-Buy 2,500 Different Stocks-Pay no Commission

All aspects of Modern Portfolio Theory and passive (index) investing are explained in a through and easily understood manner. The aspect I like most is that as well as a solid theoretical foundation the book is very practical and shows the reader how to create (and more importantly) and manage over time a successful portfolio. This is a great book- for the beginning investor, it's a great place to start and for the experienced investor there are many valuable suggestions.

An industry insider discusses ETFs and Mutual Funds at a very high level.......2006-01-21

I would have given it five stars if the book had been better paced; after a gentle warm-up it's continuously intense. He tells the reader to skip over dense sections but who wants to do that? By page 169 I was too mentally tired to continue. All that said, I STRONGLY recommend this book to anyone who ever wanted to listen to an financial services insider explain the real problems with today's financial "sausage". The book gives the best overview of the complex issues facing the financial services industry today. This book doesn't baby its readers, that's its strength and weakness.

Authoritative EFT treatment plus more.......2005-10-02

While Gastineau is helpful on managed and index mutuals, his authoritative treatment of EFTs is the most detailed and useful I know of. Of particular, immediate use was specific recommentations of stable inexpensive EFTs in Chapter 8 for both taxable and tax-deferred portfolios. I also appreciated his deep consideration of many other investment problems and solutions. This book will always be at hand.

Many suburban gardens are recognised as being rich in wildlife. Published accounts of their natural history, however, are largely antecdotal with little quantitative basis. This is therefore a unique documentation of the wildlife that existed in the author’s Leicestershire garden over a fifteen year period between 1972 and 1986. In total, the diversity, abundance and yearly fluctuations of 1757 species of animal and 422 species of plant were recorded. I have searched for the perfect book on Raman spectroscopy which would be short and complete. After looking high and low, I must recommend this text to everyone who want an explanation detail by detail. The concepts are handled quite nicely so that anyone with basic physics and chemistry understanding will comprehend. Also, there are plenty of examples of compounds which makes analysis easier to identify different bonds and vibration modes. Keep this handy with you and treasure it forever. This one is a keeper.

An enjoyable little romp.......2003-11-24

As a previous reviewer mention, this book is only tangentally related to Frayn's "Copenhagen." Your enjoyment of it will have little to do with what you thought of the play. "The Copenhagen Papers" is an interchange between the author of "Copehagen" and an actor friend of his concerning some mysterious documents dated from World War II. It's a fun little book that made me wish I could goof off with my friends in some clever sort of way.

A Sly Meditation On The Nature Of Reality.......2002-02-26

This is a marvellous entertainment - I'm not sure whether I should correctly describe it as either a memoir or novelette - which explores the nature of reality. It's not really a sequel to Michael Frayn's splendid play "Copenhagen", but does delve into some of the same terrain as the play. Instead, it is a witty exchange of thoughts and letters sent between Michael Frayn and actor David Burke (He portrayed physicist Niels Bohr during the play's original London production) about a set of manuscripts which allegedly date from the internment of German physicist Werner Heisenberg and his colleagues at Farm Hall immediately after the end of World War II. What follows is a terse, spellbinding mystery which is well told by both writers, replete with ample doses of English humor.

Not What I Expected.......2001-09-24

I thought COPENHAGEN was a great play, and I picked up this
book thinking it was background for the play (the bookjacket
gives some hints that that isn't the case, but I didn't bother
to read that. Anyway, it turns out to be less than that, and
also much more. I was sucked into the mystery along with
Michael Frayn, and read it in one sitting (it's short). I
highly recommend it for pure entertainment.

Not really a companion to the play..........2001-07-16

I loved the play Copenhagen - saw it four times, and it re-sparked my interest in physics, which I read about as a hobby. I know, weird, but whatever, I'm a smart chick.

Anyway, this book isn't about the play at all, really, it's about an exchange of letters between the author and one of the actors in the London production of Copenhagen. And it's well-crafted, I think anyone who enjoys a good mystery, and a bit of the backstage goings-on would enjoy the book. It certainly captivated me and both Michael Frayn and David Burke write well and with a good deal of dry British humor.
