Practical Application of Christianity in the workplace.......2007-06-08
There are three things that are impressive about this book. The first is the first hand experience and success of the author in introducing Biblical principles in the workplace. The second is the melding of the spiritual and secular life into one cohesive approach to doing the will of God. The final is the practical advice which will benefit both the individual and the place they work without appearing to be a zealous evangalist. I have used this book for small group discussions and a Sunday school class
Called to Monday.......2005-11-21
John Beckett has the feel of an average guy that stepped in to help with the family business and has walked out with so much more. Loving Monday reflects his humility and dependence on his faith as the ante was upped. The small family business grew into a Fortune 500 company, yet Mr. Beckett's faith allows him to turn his company into a blessing to its workers and community.
Loving Monday is the account of this success peppered with wisdom from and for the journey. John Beckett addresses some of the hindrances of western culture in seeing business as a calling. He uses these insights to apply them to the 'called' businessperson, thus empowering them to press forward with full confidence in the One who called them. Loving Monday sets itself apart from others in John Beckett's real life proof that standing firm and resisting pressure to succumb to the status quo of the business world pays with rewarding dividends: he and his employees are "loving Monday!"
"To know the will of God, and to do it.".......2005-02-23
The title "Loving Monday" is the main reason why I purchased this book and began reading it before any of the other dozen selections from a Christian business book list I received from church this past Sunday. I listened to it on CD. As a regular audio book listener, I found the content to be good but the delivery just OK.
With regard to the content I would have to say that Mr Beckett is filling a real need for books on this topic -
I was just disappointed that there weren't more examples given to support the key concepts.
Ultimately, whether or not I love Monday's -
"To know the will of God, and to do it." is the key concept from Mr Beckett's book for me personally.
Loving what you do and demonstrate by doing.......2004-12-10
This leader, John Beckett, is wonderful to watch. This book was given to me as a gift after I had the priviledge to train 30 Beckett employees who took the Dale Carnegie course. I learned first hand how this CEO not only worked and lived the beliefs he has written in this book, but I was able to get to know many of his employees over 12 weeks. This book is very inspirational and his honesty and integrity displayed to vendors, employees, family members is to be respected. I feel honored to have seen some of his good deeds by meeting people who needed a break and were outstanding employees, the cleanliness of the factory floor, diversity among the workforce population, special things done for employees, and such respect for the employee. Rare qualities in a CEO today.....this book is a must read and it makes you better!
A "must read" for any Chrsitian in today's workforce!.......1999-09-23
When it was first given to me, I put the book down and thought "great, another 'motivation' book under the guise of Christianity." It took me nearly a year o pick it up, and when I did, I regretted waiting so long. I found it to be a wealth of practical information set in a personal testimony to which I (and anyone) could relate. You won't find "three quicky steps to make life perfect" here. Instead, you'll get to know a man and his struggles, and how Christ helped him overcome them. If you've already arrived at the same conculsions Beckett does, the book will serve as a refreshing confirmation. If you haven't yet arrived at his conclusions, you'll be blessed. Read this book!
Book Description
The best book on mutual funds just got better -- and bigger -- in this up-to-the-minute new paperback. This is the expanded edition of the acclaimed hardcover that earned raves from consumers, reviewers, and booksellers. The Wall Street Journal called Rowland's 1996 guide "outstanding".
Customer Reviews:
Very good overall book on Mutual Funds.......2006-05-16
Just to provide some context, I recently checked out three books on mutual funds from my library. Of the three, this was by far the easiest to read, most informative, and well focused of the bunch. She does not tell you what fund to pick, but rather some rules for investing. She has a chapter in there for beginners to help understand the building blocks of the funds. If you are beyond that point, just skip over it. She also includes what other strategies big name investors have towards investing (index funds, upside trading, gold, sector funds, etc...) While she does throw in some opinion, it still remains objective for the most part. I want to point out again on how easy this book reads compared with most. This book has enough good stuff in it that I plan on buying it for my personal collection.
Useful tool.......2004-08-25
I pay my 5% to a professional and FINALLY have a book that helps me grasp the basic concepts and terminology he uses so blythely. It has made our discussions more profitable and less time consuming while lowering my frustration level. I can return to this book over and over as often as necessary until an idea sticks. I find it very useful to review basics when my quarterly reports arrive. The book has allowed me to be more confident in discussions with my professional advisor. The format of this book is perfect for beginners. I read several mutual fund books from the library before selecting this book as the first to own.
The best beginner book on mutual funds I've found........2002-05-27
I checked out many books on mutual funds and investing from the library. This is the one I kept going back to, because its easy-to-read "dos" and "donts" format got right to the point. That might sound too pat, but the advice given within that simple format is right on and consistant with other reliable sources I've checked. There are also more sections beyond the dos & donts for those who want to go further in depth. The advice is basic and sensible - such as what factors to look for in a fund, how to evaluate performance and costs of funds, and recommended further reading. I plan to buy a copy so I don't have to keep going to the library!
Great fundamentals and starting point.......2001-07-31
This is a great starting point for people who want to know more about investing, and particulary those who want to do it themselves. Rowland packs a lot of useful investing do's and don't, with easy to follow explanations. She stresses the key concepts such as asset and risk allocation, dollar-cost-averaging, and "buy low, sell high" (which, although a cliché, is often ignored). She examines all kind of mutual funds, from stocks, to bonds, to gold, to blend. One drawback is the book is about 3 years old, which hurts the information a little. However, this book can provide investing knowledge that applies any time, whether you believe in the "New Economy" or not.
Nothing to compare with.......2000-04-15
This is the only book on mutual funds that I have read. It had provided me with basics and with the places to look up mutual fund info. While not necessarily breathtaking read it is informative. The small format is also a plus (I do a lot of my reading in subway cars).

Book Description
In this book, Professor Rossi explores the implications of a bargaining perspective for institutional governance and public law in deregulated industries, such as electric power and telecommunications. Leading media accounts blame deregulated markets for failures in competitive restructuring policies. In contrast, the author argues that governmental institutions, often influenced by private stakeholders, share blame for the defects in deregulated markets. The first part of the book explores the minimal role that judicial intervention played for much of the twentieth century in public utility industries and how deregulation presents new opportunities and challenges for public law. The second part of the book explores the role of public law in a deregulatory environment, focusing on the positive and negative incentives it creates for the behavior of private stakeholders and public institutions in a bargaining-focused political process. The book presents a unified set of default rules to guide courts in the United States and elsewhere as they address the complex issues that will come before them in a deregulatory environment.
Customer Reviews:
A refreshing perspective on "deregulation".......2005-06-27
Rossi is one of the leading legal scholars writing on regulated industries in the U.S. His account of deregulation turns the conventional wisdom on its head. Rather than blame markets for harming consumers, Rossi places some blame with government and, in particular, with 'public law' (legislators and courts). His main suggestion is that courts need to pay attention to how deregulation fundamentally changes the bargaining conditions under which regulation if formed. This has implications for legal doctrines such as the filed rate doctrine, federalism, constitutional takings, etc. Rossi thoroughly surveys how a bargaining perspective calls into question the operation of many of these doctrines under "deregulation" conditions, which also has implications for regulatory change more generally.
Rossi's approach is refreshing. It blends a contract approach with institutional analysis, which may have implications for law as well as economics and political science analysis of regulation. I am not convinced by all of his proposals (for instance, letting states take the lead in implementing deregulation in the U.S. seems odd to me), but Rossi has reasons to support all of them and an interesting conceptual way of shedding light on a new set of issues. Rossi is not an economist, but this book raises many questions which could be studied in a much more rigorous manner by those who have the tools, and I would recommend it especially for those looking for new and interesting questions in regulated industries. The book also may be of interest to courts and policy makers.

Customer Reviews:
I can't believe they printed this..........2003-12-24
unless they re-released this book! It is FULL of errors. I noticed this first when doing the problems in the back of chapter 4, the Charle's Law problems. Let's think about this for a second. If air (a combination of gasses) compressed to half its volume when the temperature went from 20 degrees C. to 10 degrees C., we'd be in a far different world than we live in now. But doesn't Charles' Law say V(1)/T(1)=V(2)/T(2)? So if you had 2 L at 20 degrees C, it should be 1 L at 10 degrees? NO!!!! In this equation, you must use degrees Kelvin. But 20 problems use C. Very very bad.
Then, there is the equation for converting Fahrenheit to Centigrade. It has C = 5/9(F)-32. But, in fact, you have to subtract the 32 from the F degrees before you multiply by 5/9.
Princeton Review should be ashamed of themselves!
Helpful book........2003-09-19
It helped me a lot. Good book.
Mediocre Only.......2003-01-01
As a high school Junior enrolled in the standard Chemistry class, I wasn't able to use this book to the fullest. It did not coincide with my class at all, and the material it covered was very slim, and lacking in detail. No matter how I tried, I was not able to relate the text to help me study for class. Maybe this book is for a higher-level high school Chemistry course, like accelerated or AP? Don't buy if you're looking for a study aid on your average, run-of-the-mill high school Chemistry class.
Text books only go so far.......2000-02-11
Text books can only bring you so far. Yet this book can get you the "A" you have been looking for. It has simple to understand knowledge with easy to interprete diagrams. A must have for any level-one high school Chemistry student. The only visible problem with this book is it lacks some detail, in the text, and visual maps.

A Universe of Atoms, An Atom in the Universe
ASIN: 0691009627 |
Book Description
The many-faceted efforts to understand the structure and interactions of atoms over the past hundred years have contributed decisively and dramatically to the explosive development of physics. There is hardly a branch of modern physical science that does not in some seminal way rely on the fundamental principles and mathematical and experimental insights that derive from these studies. In particular, the drive to understand the singular features of the hydrogen atom--simultaneously the archetype of all atoms and the least typical atom--spurred many of the twentieth century's advances in physics and chemistry. This book gives an in-depth account of the author's own penetrating experimental and theoretical investigations of the hydrogen atom, while simultaneously providing broad lessons in the application of quantum mechanics to atomic structure and interactions.
A pioneer in the combined use of atomic accelerators and radiofrequency spectroscopy for probing the internal structure of the hydrogen atom, Mark Silverman examines the general principles behind this far-reaching experimental approach. Fast-moving protons are directed into gas or foil targets from which they capture electrons to become hydrogen atoms moving uniformly at very high speeds. During their rapid passage through the spectroscopy chamber of the atomic accelerator, these atoms reveal by the light they emit fascinating details of their internal configuration and the interactions that created them. Silverman examines the effects of radiofrequency fields on the hydrogen atom clearly and systematically, explaining the details of these interactions at different levels of complexity and refinement, each level illuminating the physical processes involved from different and complementary perspectives.
Readers interested in diverse areas of physics and physical chemistry will appreciate both the theoretical and practical implications of Silverman's studies and the personal style with which he relays them. This is a work of not only an outstanding research physicist, but a fine teacher who understands how curiosity underlies all science.

Book Description
Sex and Eroticism in Mesopotamian Literature allows a glimpse of a world with a sexual culture and erotic values very different from our own, through exploration of the earliest preserved written evidence on the subject - the Sumero-Akkadian cuneiform sources of the 21st to 5th centuries BC.
Drawing on sophisticated and astonishing literary texts - courtly love poems and bridal songs, myths, narratives and incantations - Gwendolyn Leick uncovers a fascinating range of perspectives on the subject of passion and pleasure. The reader is treated to eloquent and freely-expressed views on topics from prostitution, love magic and deviant sexual practice to gender, fertility and potency.
This revealing and candid volume celebrates a wealth of erotic material from one of the world's earliest literate civilizations, and encompasses archaeological, religious, historical, anthropological and gender-based themes and approaches. It will be of interest to students and teachers in all these disciplines.
