Find another book on Options........2003-12-07
This is definitely not an easy reading book. It's essentially a dry college textbook, drier then most Physics textbooks. I am not too sure why people like this book. It's rated fairly high, which was why I initially bought it, but now I regret it. The book is written by multiple authors, therefore some chapters are better then others. But overall it's difficult to read because in some areas, the descriptions are too terse, in others too detailed to the point of confusing. I've owned this book for almost three years and I've never been able to consistently read through it. I will drop it because it's too frustrating. Then I try again a couple of months later and I drop it again. I essentially gave up and decided to go ahead and read Lawrence McMillan's Option book. His book has a better flow because it's the same author throughout, and he does a pretty good job of explaining the subject. This book is only good for probably a reference book, but not for advancing your techniques of Options trading. I am going to try and sell this book instead of using it as a reference.
A thorough walk through options trading.......2001-03-08
This book is somewhat like 'A Random Walk Down Wallstreet" only applies to option trading, not just Wall Street and goes beyond.To the nit wit that blasted this book, I seriously doubt if he took the time to read it.I also recommend Safety First Investing and Wall Street Money Machine for more option techniques.Good books.
Can't say enough good stuff about this book.......2001-01-16
Wow, amazing, excellent, insufficient superlatives to describe my feelings - this one and Sheldon Nattenberg's Option Volatility and Pricing and you know more than most of the wall street professionals in my opinion. I found it practical and insightful, particularly with respect to the institutional trading strategies and how the trading floors operate.
An Excellent Overview of Options.......2000-07-04
This book presents a highly readable overview of the subject of options and I would recommend it to anyone. I have not been able to find one book on options which is as wide ranging in its scope (i.e., history, pricing, strategy, individual and institutional investors' approaches, how the trading floor operates, how market makers trade, etc.). The authors have struck a good balance between depth of the subject matter and readability. There are more detailed texts available in the area of strategy (McMillan's _Options as a Strategic Investment_) or pricing (Natenberg's _Option Volatility and Pricing_), but I would especially recommend this book to individual investors interested in options. After reading this book they will have a much stronger footing from which to approach the forementioned other books (which are also excellent, by the way).
The previous reviewer's comments should be disregarded as I cannot conceive of anyone writing about this subject matter any more clearly (yes, I have read both of Fontanills' books) -- the authors appear to have put much effort into this book judging by its clarity, and one nitwit's daffy comments should not dissuade you!
Misses the mark for a practical book.......2000-05-30
I was very disappointed by this book. I had attended some free events by the OIC and purchased this book at their encouragement.
It is not easy to follow, does not cover the subject in an easy to understand manner. They try to publish to justify their existance.
I prefer an number of other books that hit the mark - McMillan, Natenburg and of course the master of all option trader's Fontanills.
Book Description
Not only are there willing buyers for body parts or babies, Radin observes, but some desperately poor people would be willing sellers, while better-off people find such trades abhorrent. Radin observes that many such areas of contested commodification reflect a persistent dilemma in liberal society: we value freedom of choice and simultaneously believe that choices ought to be restricted to protect the integrity of what it means to be a person. She views this tension as primarily the result of underlying social and economic inequality, which need not reflect an irreconcilable conflict in the premises of liberal democracy.
As a philosophical pragmatist, the author therefore argues for a conception of incomplete commodification, in which some contested things can be bought and sold, but only under carefully regulated circumstances. Such a regulatory regime both symbolizes the importance of nonmarket value to personhood and aspires to ameliorate the underlying conditions of inequality.

Money isn't everything.......2006-08-31
While I disagree with some of the details Radin's fundamental insight is sound. Whereas human value systems are characterized by value-pluralism (see for example Concepts and Categories, Isaiah Berlin, Princeton Univ. Press) business and capitalism require value monism (i.e., utility is a scalar) and are in contradiction with one another. Technically, the error in capitalism is that utility should be a vector rather than a scalar like money. (Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, von Neumann and Morgenstern, Princeton Univ. Press, 1944, pgs 19-20)
An outstanding treatment of a most important subject.......1996-11-25
Radin deals thoughtfully with some virgin territory in legal and social theory -- the question of what theoretical grounds might underlie the common intuition that some valued (indeed cherished) things should be treated by the law as (in whole or in part) "not for sale." Such items as children, body parts, sexual relations, votes, opinions, and the like are among the candidates for this status, and many things that are traded on markets have commerce in them restricted for reasons that relate neither to market efficiency nor fair distribution, but rather to the transformation in meaning (and ultimately value) that can occur when it something is treated as a commodity. Radin's discussion of these novel issues does not resolve them in any simple way, but better than anything else on the subject reveals how sticky they can be. T. Gre

This paper explores what happens when corporations engage explicitly in practices of organisational learning not only to become better capitalists by generating ever more innovative ways of maintaining profitability, improving competitiveness and maximising shareholder value, but also to become more responsible corporate citizens in their business practices. In particular, I evaluate the ways in which UK food and clothing retailers are learning to develop their ethical trading programmes in response to political calls for more responsible trading. Thrift's [Thrift, N., 2005. Knowing Capitalism. Sage, London] notion of 'knowledgeable, or soft, capitalism' is adopted to understand the creative and experimental ways in which retailers and their mentors (ethical consultancies, social auditors and multi-stakeholder organisations) are learning to trade ethically. Two specific examples of formal learning spaces experienced by UK food and clothing retailers are examined: (i) training courses on social auditing and (ii) corporate awareness-raising courses on ethical trade. These courses are shown to encompass various participative and affective practices of learning. And while particular limits to the success of these courses are argued to exist, ethical learning practices discussed in this paper are nonetheless suggested to play a role in the making of new, albeit moderate, forms of responsible capitalism.

This book is based on a workshop on cereals sector reform and food security in the Newly Independent States (NIS) and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). held in Kiev, Ukraine, in December 1995. It addresses the general issues involved in the reform process and also considers the progress made, and constraints encountered, in the specific countries of the region. Earlier chapters consider general features of the reforms, and the later chapters are concerned with country-specific issues. The workshop was held as part of a broader initiative by the International Committee for Economic Reform and Cooperation (ICERC) to create a framework for cooperation on the critical issues of economic transition in this region: to revitalize trade, to stimulate investment, to increase food production, to develop and conserve resources, and to take effective action on environmental problems. The book will be of interest primarily to agricultural and food economists, but also to other social scientists concerned with the region.

This works reports the use of square-wave adsorptive stripping voltammetry (SWAdSV) for the simultaneous determination of Ni(II) and Co(II) on a rotating-disc bismuth-film electrode (BFE). The metal ions in the non-deoxygenated sample were complexed with dimethylglyoxime (DMG) and the complexes were accumulated by adsorption on the surface of the BFE. The stripping step was carried out by using a square-wave potential-time voltammetric excitation signal. Electrochemical cleaning of the bismuth film was employed, enabling the same bismuth film to be used for a series of measurements. The experimental variables (choice of the working electrode substrate, the presence of oxygen, the DMG concentration, the buffer concentration, the preconcentration potential, the accumulation time, the rotation speed and the SW parameters) as well as potential interferences were investigated and the figures of merit of the methods were established. Using the selected conditions, the 3@s limits of detection were 70ngl^-^1 for Co(II) and 100ngl^-^1 for Ni(II) (for 300s of preconcentration) and the relative standard deviations were 2.3% for Co(II) and 3.9% for Ni(II) at the 2@mgl^-^1 level (n = 8). Finally, the method was applied to the determination of nickel and cobalt in real samples with satisfactory results.

This is a must have book for any dedicated Anne fan.
The pictures are gorgeous. There are great craft ideas and easy recipes. I have made the sponge cake with orange coconut frosting. It was easy and delicious. There are also interesting tidbits about author L.M.Montgomery's life as well as interesting info about the fashions in Anne's time. This would make a great gift idea for any Anne fan, but especially for 10-13 year olds.

This is a wonderful companion book to the Anne of Green Gables series. This treasury book will entertain kids and adult-kids with recipes, crafts, information on Green Gables, quotes from the books and illustrations. I gave this book as a gift to my 25 year old friend and she has really enjoyed it.

I have loved Anne of Green Gables ever since I was a child. It is very hard to obtain Anne-books in the Netherlands, especially books like this one. But I am so glad I ordered it! I only wish it had a lot more pages...! The illustrations are beautiful and the stories about 19th century life on PEI are very pleasant to read. I recommend this book to any Anne fan!

This is a lovely book with beautiful illustrations and quotes from the "Anne Books." Everyday of the year is included with space to write about special memories or to remember special dates. I recommend this book to any lover of the Anne of Green Gables series! Also look at Carolyn Strom Collin's other books on Anne and the Little House books. They are all wonderful!
