I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has been retrenched, made redundant, involuntarily exited from the workplace or simply disillusioned with his or her workplace. A step by step manual on how to transition or transform yourself and make a comeback. Full of tips and suggestions, if you are a career hunter, it would be useful to have this text handy. Its got some stories of individuals' experiences and therefore this should be helpful in enabling you to make a move, if you are hesitating.

On the brink of layoff, I found this book at the library among the usual collection of books on resume' building, interviewing and job search. Reading the first chapters about downsizing I could see that this book was about my story, starting with the "On The Brink" experience of knowing something drastic is about to happen soon. Turns out the book is about the internal challenges and transitions involved in loosing a job, dealing with "what to do next" and how to make the journy to the next job a rewarding one.

Now I have my own copy from Amazon which I use most every day. It is very helpful.

An excellent, content-rich resource.......2001-09-04

As a career counselor, I am always searching for resources that are both informative about the psycholological impact of change and pragmatic enough to provide concrete guidance for persons navigating a career transition. This is the book I most often suggest to clients who have been laid off or are otherwise in the middle of a job change under challenging circumstances. I highly recommend this book.

Great book for governing unexpected change.......2001-07-10

I found this to be an excellent read - a real motivational book, especially for someone coming out of the .com craze. This book told of all the mood changes and feelings of anxiety that come from being downsized or from a company that has gone out of business. It also contained a good list of resources relating to where you were in your search for a new career.

Loved it. Recommend it to anyone on the edge.

Are You a Corporate Refugee? is an excellelnt resource for people who are being downsized, EAP professionals, and Outplacement experts. This book proves to be a guide for preparing for an imminent layoff and describing steps to take after the layoff. The author, Ruth Luban, does an excellent job in not only presenting a very practical guide, but addressing the full range of emotions attached to such a major life changing event.

Anyone with a computer can day trade, but day trading clearly isn't for every one. at writing 200 pages of BS. I thought this book is about day trading strategies or talk about strategic day trader. But no, all there was is this trend quantifier (useless), and for level II, he just touches on order routing(you got to be kidding me). Wait a second... where are the strategies? Waste of TIME, and a waste of money. But I was really amazed about how someone can write a book out of nothing. No, don't even qualify as a advertising/marketing pitch. Poorly written and no substance. 1 star for wasting ink and paper.

Couldn't help laughing.......2002-03-04

Just got a chance for a quick browse. Later in the book, the author complained he offered everyone an "once in a life time opportunity on a silver platter": One on one personal training, 1 million dollar capitol, 90% of the profit. But throughout LA, only one person applied?!

What's the catch? You have to finish 4 of his courses.

Why not complain yourself not coming up with some better sales pitch ^_^

Many topics in this book weren't new to me.
Though for a beginner it might be interesting as it gives an impression of what trading is all about and what kind of trader you want to be.
Deel covers trade management and trading strategies, account and money management, technical charting, order entry and Level 2, ECNs and MMs. A little bit of everything.

However what was new to me and made me stunned were last the 2 chapters "the biomechanical trader" and "seize the day".
Very very interesting indeed! It's like those adds I've read before: "People are using only 10% of their brains...." (well??)

For your trading education you should read more than just one book. This might be one in your collection to give you yet another point of view on trading (that's what it was for me). Still I give this book 4 stars because I liked the chapter on trading strategies so much.

Sales pitch.......2001-11-13

This book is nothing more than a sales pitch for the author's trading school. From page 62, "All screens, strategies, and formulas are given to students of ." Really? I thought I bought this book to learn the author's screens, strategies and formulas. Further, chapter seven is dedicated to convincing the reader of the value of the authors "biomechanical trader" methodology. I completed the book wondering what my payment should be for enduring this pitch.

The foundation of tort law in various Europen legal systems differ considerably. Untill now, there has not been an attempt to harmonize the entire field of tort law in a consistent manner. Therefore, a group of tort lawyers, the `European Group on Tort Law', proposes to address the fundamental questions underlying every tort law system. The 3-D structure is defined by internally consistent structure contour maps and cross sections of all horizons and faults. The book is directed toward the professional user who is concerned about both the accuracy of an interpretation and the speed with which it can be obtained from incomplete data. Quantitative methods are emphasized throughout, and numerous analytical solutions are given that can be easily implemented with a pocket calculator or a spreadsheet. Interpretation strategies are defined for GIS or CAD users, yet are simple enough to be done by hand. The user of this book will be able to produce better geological maps and cross sections, judge the quality of existing maps, and locate and fix mapping errors.

The second edition has been reorganized to more nearly follow the typical interpretation workflow. A significant amount of new material has been added, in particular numerous examples of 3-D models and techniques for using kinematic models to predict fault and ramp-anticline geometry. The new edition includes a CD which supplements the text in several ways. Text figures are reproduced in color and complete Tecplot models are provided for a number of representative figures. The Best Text on 3-D Geological Structures.......2000-05-17

This is probably the best available text on three-dimensional representation of geological structures. It is a handbook for use by professionals but would also serve as a supplemental text for structural geology or workstation courses.

The content is logically organized, well focused, clearly written and complete. The topics begin with the basics. These include classification, description and analysis of structures. More advanced topics follow. They range from dynamic interaction between structural and sedimentary events to fluid movements and to restoration. The worked examples are simple and clearly make their respective points. The exercises range from rudimentary to somewhat challenging for the first-time student of structural geology. Many topics would be new to anyone who has not kept current with advances in structural geology. These include, among others, new techniques in dip sequence analysis and calculating area-depth relations.

Modern technology in the form of workstations permits geoscientists to produce spectacular graphics depicting geological structures and their development. A common complaint of energy company managers is that the interpretive graphics look so good that they are believable simply because of the presentation. When financial decisions such as drilling are made based on those interpretations they often are found to be incorrect. Workstation interpreters could significantly improve the quality of their structural interpretations if they master the content of Dr. Groshong's book. Moreover, as visualization becomes an important trend to the future of interpretation technology, the basic science represented by this book takes on a more important and timely meaning.

The price of the book may seem to be excessive. This is especially evident when compared with texts prepared by non-profit organizations such as the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Those books are more attractive because they use color and are printed on better quality paper. This book has no color and is printed on ordinary quality paper. However, if the price of the book is compared with similar books published by for-profit book houses, the price is competitive. In the final analysis, the content of the text and quality of the writing more than justify its purchase.

I recommend this text to all interested in the study and practice of structural geology, especially interpreters using workstation or visualization technology.

This text develops quantum theory from its basic assumptions, beginning with statics, followed by dynamics and details of applications and the needed computational techniques. The discussion is based on the view that the fundamental entities of the universe are not particles but fields, with the observed particles arising as their quanta. Quantum fields are thus introduced from the beginning, with a discussion of how they produce quanta that manifest themselves as particles. Most of the book, of course, deals with particle systems, as that is where most of the applications lie; the treatment of quantum field theory is confined to fundamental ideas and their consequences. For developing quantum dynamics, the author uses the Lagrangian technique with the principle of stationary action. The roots of this approach, which includes generating the canonical commutation rules, go back to a course taught by Julian Schwinger, filtered through many years of the author's own teaching. The text emphasizes that the wave function does not exist in physical three-dimensional space, but in configuration space, and it points out that the probabilistic features of the theory arise not from a lack of determinism but from the definition of the "state" of a system, so that many, though not all, of the counterintuitive aspects of quantum mechanics arise from its probabilistic nature and are shared by other probabilistic theories such as classical statistical mechanics.
