Explanation of the field, from an industry leader.......2005-07-19
The profession of personal coaching has exploded over the past decade, following the establishment of the field by the late Thomas Leonard, founder of CoachU. A number of sub-categories of the profession have been developed by specialists who began their own educational programs, bodies of knowledge, and certifications. Marcia Bench is one of those specialists, concentrating on the vital field of career coaching.
In addition to her personal coaching of hundreds of clients, Bench formed the Career Coach Institute, a virtual training organization pioneering this part of the coaching field. The Institute was founded in 2001; this book was published in 2003 to share Bench's perspectives, positioning, and body of knowledge.
The first part of the book is devoted to a thorough explanation of coaching and, more specifically, career coaching. While the focus is on individual professionals coaching individual private clients, the concept has broader application in working with students, recent graduates, and corporate employees.
Bench and her followers emphasize what they call "authentic vocations." Their design includes eight factors: life purpose; values; motivators and interests; knowledge, skills, and abilities; work and other expertise; job/career targets; work environment; and business reality. Each of these factors is discussed in a separate chapter.
For anyone in the field of career coaching, or considering the field, this book is a valuable resource.

This book provides: an introduction to the field, the ethics of coaching, the eight factors of a model of career design, coaching tips and resources, and explores a new model of coaching that enables clients to overcome obstacles to finding their ideal work. Seventy competencies associated with certification are presented. A chapter is devoted to advanced coaching skills. The author also discusses the best current thinking on all aspects of job search mechanics. Concludes with self-care and the traits of masterful coaches. Includes worksheets and assessments. It's a pleasure to find a book so abounding in meaningful content. This is really a terrific guide for building a career coaching business. This book's a winner!
From Consulting to Coaching.......2004-01-08
I have been in the Career Consulting business for eight years and as a consulting psychologist decided to make the transition into coaching. Marcia Bench's book has served as a handy text for learning a whole new aspect of career transitions. It is well written, easily understood by the layperson and filled with very helpful tools and strategies. Most importantly, she also clearly defines the differences between consulting, coaching and therapy. Any professional would do well to understand this before they take on the role of "coach."

It is chock full of step-by-step guides and assessments to help users sort through the often confusing and unsettling process of career change. The section describing the coaching process is powerful and will enhance readers' abilities to communicate with others in all settings - both professional and personal.

I was definitely pleased with Marcia's new book. Not only does it assist career coaches in defining a step by step approach to coaching effectively, but it is also a wonderful tool for someone who is stuck in that "rut" of the routine 9-5. For anyone who wants to achieve career/job satisfaction, this book offers many insights and thought-provoking questions that will assist in getting 3 steps closer to a fulfilling career.

Wonderfully practical, comprehensive resource for BOTH those seeking help with their career/job search as well as those who guide others through that process. The book is organized into 2 main sections - one contains the comprehensive career/job search content and the other provides a powerful coaching approach for career as well as business coaches, incorporating the best coaching thinking in the field. Ms. Bench has done a fabulous job of sorting through all of the "career stuff" out there and presenting the reader with a compelling, organized framework to move through the process effectively.

Whether reading it as a career coach, parent, counselor, or professional who helps others with their career decisions, I found Insider's Guide To Career Coaching to be loaded with specific examples, valuable tests, and helpful client tools. Model?.......2004-10-03
If you are looking for a book that contains model policies and procedures, this book is not for you. When I opened the cover, I fully expected to see full-length sample model policies and procedures. For example, your typical investment policy should be seven or more pages. Mr. McMillan's "model" policy had only a couple of useless paragraphs. I expected more for the $65 cover price.

The importance of policies!.......2000-01-29
As a partner with a CPA firm in Annapolis, MD, our firm has several not-for-profit clients. One of their most serious deficiences is the lack of formal, board-approved accounting and financial policies and procedures.
Our experience has been that formal policies, in addition to eliminating misunderstandings between the CEO, the CFO and the board is that they are invaluable in the event of an IRS audit.
When advising our clients of the importance of these policies, we found that compiling policies from scratch was a very time-consuming process.
We found the answer - McMillan's "Model Accounting & Financial Policies and Procedures Handbook". This book addresses every conceivable policy from Access to Records by Members to the Year-End Manual and everything in between! Additionally, the CD Rom that is included with the book results in completing an otherwise onerous task with a minimum of effort.
We use it at our firm and we highly recommend it to our clients!

Light reading to supplement Christie's books........2007-01-06
This book isn't anything more than it says it is - a Companion to the works of Agatha Christie. It's several short essays that explains the plot of each book (but never gives away the ending) and has several companion essays that tell the story of Christie's life and life in England while she was alive. There are essays on how people dressed, how servants were treated, how Christie treated lower-class characters in her books. There are essays delving into the psychology of our favorite detectives.
It's meant to be picked up and read in short bursts. It provides a lot of information in quick bits.
It's by no mean a comprehensive biography of Christie. Several essays are much better than others. But it's a nice little companion for Christie fans.
An Excellent Companion!.......2005-06-18
A must for any Christie fan, as it helps you sort out the often confusing array of books by summarizing each of them without giving the endings away, and includes all the title variations that can trip die hard fans up as they accidentally read or purchase the same book twice or more!
This book doesn't hold anything back either! For one thing, it reveals that the original title of "And Then There Were None" (which can also be found as "Ten Little Indians") was actually "Ten Little NIGGERS"! The poem in the book was the same thing, and there's actually cover art included. Now we have an older edition of this companion than the one pictured here, so it's possible that the publishers have cut back on some of the information available in it, but this is a FACT! Whether it changes your mind about Agatha Christie is up to you!

The Bedside, Bathtub & Armchair Companion to Agatha Christie has complete listing and summeries of all the novels,plays, short stories, and six romance novels MS. Christie wrote. this book also features bits of trivia, a few recipes,a biography of Agatha, interviews with fans ETC.
Host Your Own Murder Partiers - beware!.......2003-04-02
This book was suggested in the Host's Guide for the Host Your Own Murder Party "The Watersdown Affair". It said that you could get some meal ideas from it. The recipe section in this book is very small and not worth buying the book for. For a good dessert for this party, make a Trifle. The recipe I used was "John Clancy's English Trifle" from "The Heart of Christmas" book by Victoria Magazine. Wow, was it yummy!

This book is a must have for any Aagtha Christie Fan. It talks of all her works in a detailed form, and mentions anything you might have missed when reading one of her books. Plus it has many side notes on how she came up with the idea for her books and short stories. It also contains her quests to find information on items in her books, i.e. poison. It tells a lot of her life too. In short I really enjoy this book and find something new in it everyday.
