EVERYONE should read this book. While you read it, you'll be reminded that we all have choices in life and that all of us can and should be 'doing work that we love.' I found this book very empowering. The text is easy-to-read and follow, the exercises are very insightful, and the "Aphorisms and Reminders" at the back are extremely empowering. I found myself jotting them down in places I could see them, and I still review them to keep me motivated. I felt so empowered by this book that I made the decision to leave my job in search of Work That I Love and I have never looked back. Cheryl Gilman provides a forum for you to explore your own options, be it staying where you are, or moving on...the CHOICE is up to you! A big THANK YOU to Cheryl Gilman for guiding me along my journey in rediscovering who I am and what I want to do in life. An exceptionally good book.

Everyone with or without a job should read this book!.......1999-07-21
A great read. It gives you lots to think about and I recommend it to anyone and everyone, whether you have a good job, a bad job, or no job at all.
If you are unhappy with your job/career then read this book........1999-02-16
Doing Work You Love is an excellent book. I highly recommend it to anyone who is not happy in their current profession. It is inspirational and motivational at helping you to discover what career you really want to have in life. It is easy to read and understand. It also dispels many common myths and fears about job searches and changing careers.

Customer Reviews:
Essential item for Corporate Finance or Real Estate Classes.......2006-12-18
This book is an essential tool for corporate finance classes. While the textbook that I used, "Corporate Finance" by Stephen Ross, Westerfield and Jaffe was clear and concise, it did not give any instructions on solving the problems in any way except algebraically. Calculators are an essential tool and if you need any help in connecting those formulas to calculator inputs, this is your guide.
The book is short, but sweet. It includes instructions and line by line inputs for HP 10BII and two other basic models.
You learn how to calculate the basics of NPV, Bonds & Stocks, Mortgages, and Statistics using your particular brand of calculator.
The book is an excellent value for the money!

Book Description
In the tradition of Blue Highways and Silent Spring, Chasing Spring follows nature's season of renewal even as it shows how the delicate mechanisms of spring are increasingly endangered by climate change.
Seeking to revive his body and soul following heart surgery, acclaimed nature writer Bruce Stutz set out on a three-month journey through the unfolding of an American spring. Driving across the country in a twenty-year-old Chevy sedan, Stutz shows readers that spring is not so much a progression as an arousal; each added minute of the lengthening days and lingering sun brings yet another transformation in the greening landscape as well as in the human spirit.
Beginning with the season's southernmost stirrings along the Gulf of Mexico, Stutz sees the first blooms and partakes in the season's festivals -- celebrations with ancient origins that still speak to our wonder at nature's annual rebirth. He follows the migrations of birds northward, the return of life to the forests, and the quickening of snowmelt in the Rockies. He moves across the southern desert, encountering the explosion of cacti and wildflowers and the violence of tornadoes on the drought-stricken Great Plains. He then travels north through the national parks of the West, finally celebrating his journey's end by basking at the solstice amid the beauty of the Alaskan Arctic's twenty-four hours of daylight.
Along the way, he accompanies scientists into the field to study the season's changes and meets farmers, Arctic natives, and even migrant mushroom pickers whose livelihoods depend on the coming of spring. In each location, as he observes the sensitive interplay of light and warmth that draws animals, plants, water, and even the soil itself into the biological ballet that makes for the profound stirring we call spring, he also finds that climate change now threatens the basic pro-cesses of nature.
A moving and thought-provoking record of the year¹s most invigorating season, Chasing Spring is a timely reminder that as trees bud and flowers bloom, the human spirit reawakens as well. Anyone who has ever marveled at spring¹s wondrous transformations¿from a first garden blossom to a world in full flower¿will find in Chasing Spring a journey to savor.

Not Just Another Road Book.......2007-07-21
A journey of self discovery, as well as a journey exploring recent North American changes in Spring, this book is literate and erudite. As noted in comments above, it contains small factual errors, (analagous to claiming Martin Van Burean was the 12th President), but these do not detract from the over-all quality of nor the message of the book.
I heartily recommend it to those interested in journies of self discovery as well as those concerned about global warming's effects.
Great for travel and science junkies.......2006-11-04
Bruce Stutz's writing is a joy to read. I love reading travel writing anyway, plus my favorite season is spring, so it's been a pleasure to read about the science behind the spring he experiences in different regions of the States. Also enjoyed learning the science behind global warming so I can use actual facts in debates with people who don't believe we play a role in it.
Chasing Spring by Bruce Stutz.......2006-10-20
Interesting, but on page 92 the Four Corners area is listed as the meeting place of Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. This should be Colorado (not Nevada), Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. Also on page 85 the author describes rock massifs that rise to 18,000`. Since Mt. Whitney is 14,505` and is the highest peak in the contiguous US I am wondering where these "rock massifs" are.
Wide-Ranging Information.......2006-08-06
What a story! I'm only halfway through this unique journey but must stop long enough to enthusiastically recommend it to everyone - not just nature-lovers. Bruce Stutz has sent me to my dictionary several times (it's fun, learning new words.) He's also entertained me with myths, legends, geography, geology, entomology, etc., and he's challenged me with his deep and important concern for our changing environment. Great book.
"Great car".......2006-02-09
Bruce Stutz is a 56 year old Jewish naturalist writer from Brooklyn who after a heart-valve surgery decides to drive across the USA following the progress of Spring, moving generally from south to north (map of route included). I was drawn to this because I have driven across the USA on solo trips with no particular itinerary just exploring and was interested in traveling with a like-minded soul and seeing it from another perspective. Some of the highlites of the trip include small town mardi gras celebrations in Louisiana, the Punxsutawney Phil groundhog day, a tour of the now-defunct Biosphere and its lone remaining tour-guide/guard, hiking the deserts of AZ, the sandhills of Nebraska underneath which lies the largest aquafier of water in North America, difficult climbing in the mountains near Denver, birding on the salt flats, mushroom picking in the OR Cascade Mountains with Asian pickers (a fascinating and new phenomenon to me), flying into the ANWAR in Alaska with bush pilots.
Throughout Stutz emphasis es the nature of change not only of the season into Spring, but of the changing weather and climate of the planet and how this is effecting the natural world visably today. Never preachy, it is a gentle and beautiful road-trip in a gas-guzzling 1983 Chevy, appropriately nick-named "Moby Dick" for its large "whale" of a size, white color, and for anyone who has read the novel, a metaphor for the elements of life that are out of our control. A book well worth reading for anyone interested in travel, nature, a changing world and the promise of Spring around the corner on a winters evening.

Customer Reviews:
Don't waste your time.......2006-11-06
I don't own this book, but I browsed through it, and believe me that did not take long. This book is an embarrassment to the fine Schaum's Outline series. For one thing, the words "Easy Outline" and "College Physics" don't belong in the same book title. There are only six chapters in this book, and the book glosses over the meat of College Physics with the most simplistic of explanations and no examples to speak of. If you want to learn college physics buy the old reliable "Schaum's Outline of College Physics" now in its tenth edition. It has good explanations, meaty examples, and many solved as well as unsolved problems so you can really grasp the concepts of the first two semesters of college physics. What really confuses me is that two of the three authors of this book wrote the good Schaum's outline of College Physics as well as the excellent Schaum's Outline of Optics, so they DO know how to write meaningful study guides. Why they put their names on this disaster I'll never know. I would say that this particular book is not even good enough for high school students studying physics. Avoid it completely.
Useless........2005-05-30
Well, I bought this book by mistake! I wanted the non easy version. Unless you want to pretend learn physics in two weeks you'd better buy the same authors and name book but non easy version! You can learn physics with that 416 pages one but not with this 138 one.

Book Description
Written at the height of his career, this is considered one of Jack London's finest novels.
Customer Reviews:
One of Jack London's Most Racially Conscious Works.......2005-12-28
This is a very exciting novel where the Nordics, Aryans, whatever you want to call them are the heroes, the officers of THE ELSINORE who are faced with mutiny by a crew made up of other races. It's inspiring to read a pro-WASP book that's well written. London was a great man of action and intellect who said these words at a Socialist Party conference: "I am a White Man first, and only then a Socialist." Words to inspire and ponder. I wonder what London would be saying today if he were here. I bet he'd know the score.
It held my attention, but..........2000-09-02
If you're reading this, either you're a died-in-the-wool Jack London fan or you know little about his work.
To those who liked "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang" and want to know what to read next: the short stories! And of the novels, "Martin Eden," "The Sea-Wolf." Among his LESS well-known works, I and others have a high regard for "John Barleycorn," "The Road," and "The Iron Heel," and many love "The Star-Rover" (although I don't care for it).
Now, as for those who just can't get enough Jack London and want to know what this book is like: it's not bad. It's readable. It is a Jack London account of a passage around Cape Horn in the last days of the sailing ship. It is based on a trip Jack and Charmian (and of course his valet Nakata) made in 1912.
Three-quarters of the way through this book I was almost ready to classify it as a hidden Jack London treasure but it really falls apart.
The problems? Well, loose construction and loose ends, common Jack London faults. He establishes an intriguing cast of grotesque characters and curious plot twists and then never resolves any of them. It builds up wonderfully, then it lets down miserably.
For example: the mutineers have a mysterious source of food which makes it hard for the officers to starve them into submission. Jack London elevates this to the status of a major riddle and refers to it again and again, until I reached the point of being really curious about what happened. And he never tells us!
Worse: what became of Mr. Pike and Mr. Mellaire? For two-thirds of the book he builds toward a confrontation between them. During the mutiny, Pike leaves the deck intending to find Mellaire--and, basically, both of them simply vanish!
Like many of his later tooks, this book contains the usual amount of racialist crappola, but not enough to ruin the book for me. The good guys win because "we, the fair-pigmented ones, by the seed of our ancestry rule in the high places and shall remain top dog over the rest of the dogs," etc. And there's the usual amount of what I can only call mushy stuff
"The Sea-Wolf," the protagonist earns his strength and self-reliance. In "Elsinore," he simply comes into it as his Aryan birthright.

Book Description
Everyone who remembers The Sea Wolf with pleasure will enjoy this vigorous narrative of a voyage from New York around Cape Horn in a large sailing vessel. The Mutiny of the 'Elsinore' is the same kind of tale as its famous predecessor, and by those who have read it, it is pronounced even more stirring. Mr. London is here writing of scenes and types of people with which he is very familiar, the sea and ships and those who live in ships. In addition to the adventure element, of which there is an abundance of the usual London kind, a most satisfying kind it is, too, there is a thread of romance involving a wealthy, tired young man who takes the trip on the Elsinore, and the captain's daughter. The play of incident, on the one hand the ship's amazing crew and on the other the lovers, gives a story in which the interest never lags and which demonstrates anew what a master of his art Mr. London is.

Customer Reviews:
One of London's "Individualist" stories.......2007-08-08
Jack London was a complicated individual who has left critics baffled at times. London was an avowed socialist, yet in Mutiny of the Elsinore, we read an emphatic discussion of how/why the "ruling classes" are the ruling classes, and that this is just as it should be (contrast this, for example, with London's The Iron Heel). The Elsinore story is similar to London's The Sea Wolf in that we see the gradual "manification" of a too-wealthy and too-underworked "aristocrat" who must discover his manhood on a voyage around The Cape that goes hopelessly wrong. It is an exciting adventure story, set against the backdrop of the "Superman" period of London's writings. There are some serious flaws in the book, however, with a sub-plot about a revengeful first mate that simply never gets resolved or mentioned after a big build-up. A suggestion of cannibalism is made (where are the mutineers getting their food?) but this is also never explained. Three myserious sailors join the trip on the Cape, but who they are and where they really came from is never fully developed. Still, if you enjoyed "The Abysmal Brute" and similar London stories, you'll enjoy this one. Just don't expect much sympathy for the masses (e.g., People of the Abyss). You won't find it here.

From the first the voyage was going wrong. Routed out of my hotel on a bitter March morning, I had crossed Baltimore and reached the pier- end precisely on time. At nine o'clock the tug was to have taken me down the bay and put me on board the Elsinore, and with growing irritation I sat frozen inside my taxicab and waited.
