An Exhilerating Climb!.......2007-04-29
In a world filled with self help books that are a rehash of frequently cited missives, Rich Fettke's book is a refreshing change of pace. Extreme Success provides a unique perspective and offers a multitude of unique thoughts on improving one's performance.
Potential buyers beware! Fettke is an action advocate. Those looking for an approach to success strictly through "thinking big thoughts" will be disappointed. But, if you believe big thinking must be coupled with big action, Fettke's book is an excellent guide to an exhilarating climb. He is a poster child for the action imperative!
As a six time graduate of Outward Bound expeditions, I was very comfortable with the many analogies that Rich introduces through his experiences in facing challenges when climbing, skydiving, and the like. I too have found climbing to be a great mind and body stretcher. Readers who haven't experienced such challenges just need to accept his teaching points on face value, something I found easy because of the authenticity that pours off the pages.
One example of that authenticity and his exceptional wisdom is the story of pushing his daughter on a swing and her teaching him that we all are on a different path and one should not push without permission. Gems like that fill this book, making it heads and shoulders above other self help books.
PS His challenge for all of us to become "Angel Advocates" rather than "Devil Advocates" is a gem that can pay huge dividends for those who take pride in "challenging" the dreams and plans of others.
Not your standard self-help book.......2006-12-28
This is not your standard self-help book. It's written in an entertaining and thought provoking manner that uses real life examples from the authors work work with his coaching clients and his adventures in extreme sports. Excellent!
Really Empowering!.......2004-10-19
What does it take to be an extreme success? Does it take long hours at the office? Can you have a life besides work?
In this empowering book, Rich shows you that you can achieve extreme success without compromising your health and relationships. Yes you can make more money by having a balanced life compared to a workaholic way of life.
Yes, make no mistake--long hours and relentless persistence pays off. But it does have to be at all cost? Rich does shows you how you can achieve greater results by letting go. By not working so hard. Yes of course you're going to have to put in the effort, but Rich shows you how to make it fun!
Another vital lesson contained is how to deal with fear. Rich as dedicates much time to work with people to break through their fears and go on to life their ideal life.
He recounts many personal tales of how he dealt with fear by embracing it rather than
fighting it.
And make no mistake Rich walks the talk. He describes in great detail how he dealt with fear in life and death situations. He tells how he even saw his tombstone (in the event of the worse case scenario when we was bungee jumping off the Golden Gate bridge) He recounts how he panicked when his parachute wouldn't open at 5000 feet up in the air after parachuting from an airplane, falling speedily towards the ground.
And most importantly he shows how we can use these examples in our daily life to be more courageous and take on bigger risks; to challenge ourselves to go to the next level. We all know that nothing great has ever been achieved without stretching. So read this book and utilize the awesome practical techniques and strategies to your own journey of Extreme Success!

Serious about improving? Get this book........2004-09-22
I've read and listened to MANY "success books", If you are serious about having a great life and being successful, you need to read more than one success book. This book is one of the best. Most important is that there is "to do" lists and blank forms that make it easy TO DO. The only thing more important than reading all these success books is to ACT ON THEIR ADVICE. Rich makes it easy to act, that is paramount on the road to a successful life.
Sweet Success.......2004-04-10
As a professional personal coach I found Rich Fettke's "Extreme Success" an excellent resource for tips and techniques for use with my clients (not to mention myself!). My favorite is his idea of dealing wtih fears that inhibit us from doing the things we need to do to move forward in our lives. Called "dancing with your protector," it's an imaginative and powerful way to reframe the obstacles in our lives in a way that can actually propel us forward with a greater liklihood of success.
I host a radio program in Seattle called "The Working Life!(tm)" and have interviewed Rich about his book. I found him to be engaging and sincerely interested in helping all of us to make the most of what we've been given in this life. If we can do that--really do that--then our success will not only be extreme, but sweet.

Customer Reviews:
Good reading for aspiring practitioners!.......2007-05-12
It is a satisfactory book for a practical introduction to commodity trading owing to its association with the relevant Reuters screens which make the text less abstract as compared with the typical theoretical texts on the subject.
Its two main drawbacks though are: 1) the inadequacy of the material pertinent to trading strategies which make use of the instruments and 2) the fact that the Wiley internet links seem to be currently unavailable!
Studying this book along with the other Reuters "Introduction to Derivatives" may help close many gaps which the novice reader is likely to find in the text.

Book Description
The HIV/AIDS epidemic remains a major social problem in the United States. While the number Donald T. Dickson
of individuals dying of the disease has dropped dramatically, the rate of new HIV infections has remained relatively steady for several years. As a result that many more infected individuals are living with the disease in various stagesperhaps as many as one million today. While the incidence of perinatal HIV has decreased, there has been a significant growth in HIV/AIDS among minorities, women, and adolescents. At the same time, the laws governing aspects of milieu and consequences of the disease have expanded, in the process becoming even more complex and varied.
In his new book, Dr. Dickson has provided a text that presents this complex and changing field for social work students, practitioners, and educators, who will be working with an increasing population of clients infected or at risk of becoming infected with the disease, and who therefore must be knowledgeable about its legal aspects. Drawing upon statutes and court decisions from across the country, Dickson has produced a comprehensive, up-to-date picture of the many facets of HIV/AIDS law today. Along with a discussion of the disease, testing and transmission, topics include health policy; confidentiality, privacy, and the duty to protect others from harm; HIV/AIDS as a disability; bioethics; HIV/AIDS as it relates to children and families; HIV/AIDS in the workplace; criminal law and corrections. The ever-important liability issues in HIV/AIDS are given a special emphasis, as they raise particular concern for the human services in dealing with this client constituency.

Book Description
Invertebrates are conspicuous, influential components in all of the ecosystems of the world. Assemblages of invertebrates assume an organizing function and hence may be considered as "webmasters" in these ecosystems. This book reviews and assesses our current understanding of invertebrates in terrestrial and terrestrially-dominated (lower-order stream) ecosystems. It emphasizes the centrality of the activity of invertebrates, which influence ecosystem function far out of proportion to their physical mass in a wide range of situations, particularly at the interface between land and air (litter/soil), water and land (sediments) and in tree canopies and root/soil systems.

Best Resource for Learning ESRI's ArcGIS 9.2.......2007-09-25
If you want to learn ESRI's ArcGIS 9.2 on your own, this is your best option outside of taking Intro. to ArcGIS I and II from ESRI (which would be my first choice). We use this workbook & CD in the beginning GIS course at the undergrad and grad level. Price is an ESRI-authorized instructor and a professor at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. The spiral-bound workbook -- which you are encouraged to write in -- is set up with short chapters providing the basics of GIS theory, a hands-on tutorial (for which the CD has videos for you to follow along if you prefer), multiple exercises -- some simple, some challenging -- and brief chapter reviews. Answers to all of the tutorial questions are in the back of the book along with screenshots and answers for the exercises. In the 3rd edition Price has expanded the tutorials and exercises beyond South Dakota and updated the text and exercises for ArcGIS 9.2. In the last chapters you are introduced to basic network analysis and working with rasters. The color diagrams of specific tool boxes and screen shots are very helpful. Many people find this book to be a good basic reference when working on more advanced GIS projects.
It has good potential........2007-06-30
We used this is an dual level college GIS practicum course. There is much to be said both good and bad. The CD's are useful, and the exercises work through some important lessions in analysis. Unfortunately, there are many errors in the book. In one exercise the question asks you to use the data to make a map showing areas that are closer to streams than to roads. There are 2 road files. Logically, I put in both files and couldn't get the same answer as the answer in the back of the book. Finally, I forgot to load one of the files and loaded only the forest service road file. Then it worked. The question neglected to state that it was only forest service roads that were being considered.
We did 2 chapters a week, including all the exercise questions. It took me a long time to figure out how to do the exercises because the chapter did not address all parts of what was necessary to do the problem.
I recommend that students use the GIS Tutorial (ESRI) book as an introduction, then use this book. The Mastering ArcGIS book is much better in teaching how to solve actual problems encountered in research. The tutorial book (ESRI) addresses simple software issues and demonstrates how to perform necessary tasks to actually use the software.
If the many errors are corrected, this will be a major improvement.
good reference.......2007-03-09
this book was put together in a very organized and easy to understand method.
Would highly recommend.......2007-02-15
This is an excellent book. Exercises after each chapter are easy to follow. Interactive CD is great.
Good software specific book.......2007-02-15
This is a very helpful book for GIS software (ArcGIS) learners. It's a great supplemental material for my GIS labs. The only way this book can be frustrating would be if someone went through it like a marathon runner.
Book Description
For the better part of a century, attempts to explain what was really going on in the quantum world seemed doomed to failure. But recent technological advances have made the question both practical and urgent. A brilliantly imaginative group of physicists at Oxford University have risen to the challenge. This is their story.
At long last, there is a sensible way to think about quantum mechanics. The new view abolishes the need to believe in randomness, long-range spooky forces, or conscious observers with mysterious powers to collapse cats into a state of life or death. But the new understanding comes at a price: we must accept that we live in a multiverse wherein countless versions of reality unfold side-by-side. The philosophical and personal consequences of this state of affairs are awe-inspiring.
The new interpretation has allowed imaginative physicists to conceive of wonderful new technologies: measuring devices that effectively share information between worlds and computers that can borrow the power of other worlds to perform calculations. Step by step, the problems initially associated with the original many-worlds formulation have been addressed and answered so that a clear but startling new picture has emerged.
Just as Copenhagen was the centre of quantum discussion a lifetime ago, so Oxford has been the epicenter of the modern debate, with such figures as Roger Penrose and Anton Zeilinger fighting for single-world views, and David Deutsch, Lev Vaidman and a host of others for many-worlds.
An independent physicist living in Oxford, Colin Bruce has occupied a ringside seat to the debate. In his capable hands, we understand why the initially fantastic sounding many-worlds view is not only a useful way to look at things, but logically compelling. Parallel worlds are as real as the distant galaxies detected by the Hubble Space Telescope, even though the evidence for their existence may consist only of a few photons.

Best book since Douglas Adams.......2006-08-21
This is without a doubt the one book since Douglas Adams stopped writing that made me glad English was my native language.
All The Myriad Explanations.......2005-06-21
Every few years I look for a good book to bring me up to date on the latest musings of the quantum mechanics to see if they've figured things out yet and Colin Bruce's Schrödinger's Rabbits admirably filled the bill. Bruce does the obligatory opening chapters on quantum mechanics in general and the weirdness that arises when mere humans [like me] try to fathom the subject. The book then launches into a thorough accounting of what the author refers to as the Oxford interpretation, giving us the agreements and disagreements, warts and all. Bruce is a great writer and keeps the tough material engaging. I should confess that I'm a very willing participant and have been fascinated with the many worlds interpretation ever since I read the Larry Niven short stories All The Myriad Ways and For A Foggy Night. I highly recommend Schrödinger's Rabbits to anyone interested in quantum mechanics.
An exposition and defense of the many-worlds interpretation.......2004-12-18
First, let me say that I was both surprised and gratified to learn that this book was written in a world in which I won the Fields medal rather than the Nevanlinna prize. Second, the first few chapters of this book comprise one of the best and most entertaining expositions I've seen on the weirdnesses of quantum mechanics. The sections on the many-worlds interpretation (or interpretations, since not all many-worlders agree) of quantum mechanics are very good, although they haven't changed my views. (I'm still firmly agnostic about the interpretation of quantum mechanics.) This book explains the two most mainstream interpretations of quantum mechanics quite clearly, and compares them reasonably fairly. The main disappointment I had in the book was its treatment of Bohm's and other alternative interpretations of quantum mechanics (i.e., not Copenhagen or many-worlds). They are dismissed quite cavalierly, and I would have liked to see them treated more seriously and at greater length, and dismissed with better justifications. (Just to set the record straight, let me say that I think there are good reasons to dismiss Bohm's interpretation and excellent reasons for dismissing all the other alternative interpretations. It's fairly hard to articulate these reasons, as doing it right would involve learning more than I really want to about these alternative interpretations, and I would have really liked Colin Bruce to do this work for me. On the other hand, maybe I'm just being selfish here and hoping somebody else will do work that I'm too lazy to do myself. Even without a comprehensive treatment of these other interpretations, this is a really entertaining and instructive book, which deserves every one of the five stars I'm giving it.)
