Customer Reviews:
Best elliot wave book !!.......2006-10-26
If you really want to learn the elliot wave then this book is the best of the bunch. Miner has done a very good job of bringing the elliot wave into laymans terms.
Very Highly Recommended.......2006-10-11
Do yourself a favor, buy this book first ... before investing thousands in training or software programs. Not to downgrade the need for a mentor if one is to learn trading for a living ... there is always a learning curve ... but Dyanmic Trading really does outline all you need to take a living from the markets. The best practical exposition of Elliott Wave and Fibonacci/Gann time/price relationships there is.
Practical Trading Advice.......2004-04-12
This is by far the best book on practical Elliott Wave and Fib Trading strategies for futures and stocks. A key section is on trade management and trade strategies which make the difference between success and failure in the business of trading.
I've been trading for 20 years for funds and my personal account and this is one of the most practical if not the best book on trading I have read.
A truly must read for serious students.......2004-04-11
Robert focuses his books on the three critical aspects a trader has to consider: time, price and pattern and for each of them, the book provides PRACTICAL, sound techniques that once mastered can truly give your trading habits a quantum leap.
The pattern section focuses on practical application of Elliott wave theory, here not meant to describe evey market condition, but just to understand if a market is trending or counter-trending. This is in my opinion a great achievement, having read numerous non-sense books on Elliott.
The sections on price and time describe techniques on how to forecast in advance price and time clusters where change in trend are highly probable. Synthetically, the reader is equipped with a good arsenal of techniques that will allow him to combine the pattern (trend/counter-trend analysis) with time and price projections in order to forecast high-probability set-ups on the markets.
The book provides also a good section on how to build trading strategies, plan and rules and this has helped me a lot to finally put some order into my trading. A number of extremely useful entry and stop-loss techniques are also provided.
Robert Miner IS A TRADER, not sort of guru who talks about markets without having risked a penny on a stock and that adds tremendous value to the practical application of his ideas.
I strongly suggest not only to read but to study this book.
A rather poor attempt...........2004-03-25
Do yourself a favour, save your money and do not purchase this book. You will gain more valuable information elsewhere. A lot of the stuff presented really does not hold up to the cold harsh scrutiny of backtesting. Mr Miner might be a knowledgeable man, however, you have to wonder. Why is he selling rather expensive software/courses/book, has a website, subscription service, seminars, etc, etc? Why isn't he trading and making huge amounts of cash, successfully applying the information "taught" in this book? Why is he even sharing this information with us? Do you reckon that Morgan Stanley or Goldman Sachs provide any information about their trading strategies and quantitative models that take years to develop and validate?
You also have to wonder about the format of the book. Huge thick pages, largish fonts, wide separation of lines. Maybe Mr Miner believes that a sizable tome impresses readers, like his (at times) mindless drivel.
I bought this book because it was highly recommended by a friend, and because of the great reviews received here - although there was at least one bad review that appears to have been mysteriously removed - what a mistake that was.
Best left on the shelf where you found it.
However, I have found one use for this book. Because of its size, it makes a nice stand for one of my trading monitors!
Book Description
As serious and sophisticated investors know, options are a viable and increasingly popular way to enhance their portfolios. Yet even the most savvy investors need instruction.
Now in its third edition, The Options Workbook has been updated and reformatted in a larger, more convenient, and user-friendly design. Three all-new chapters explain key trading concepts-volatility, the collar, and the covered call-and show how these can be applied to mitigate risk and increase profits. What’s more, this fresh edition incorporates additional interactive content-exercises, hands-on tools, and lessons that complement the in-depth curriculum on ITI’s Web site, www.itichicago.com.

Options workbook for Dummies.......2007-09-25
I picked up this book in preparation for an interview I was having in the equity structured products desk at Morgan Stanley. Although I had taken a Financial Derivatives class at Wharton, this book helped explain the basics. It goes through all of the fundamental and basic strategies, as well as spreads. The value in the book is in doing the examples and working out the max gains, loses, break-evens etc. It seems basic but as you begin to put together more complex trades these exercises stay with you and guide your understanding. The book also does a decent job of explaining the Greeks and volatility. You won't come away ready to put on any overly complex trades, but you might be comfortable putting on your first call back spread knowing what your risk and reward profile is.
I was confused about options until I read this book.......2007-07-16
I am an amateur stocks and options trader. I have read, and continue to read, many books about the markets, about stocks, and about options. Options are more interesting to me than any other investing medium because of the ability to make quick gains and because of the innate limitation of losses. With so many options plays in existence, it's easy to get confused.
I picked up The Options Workbook and it cleared away much of the mystery of options investing. This book outlines the most common options plays including spread concepts, butterflies, condors, and many other trading techniques. It contains a primer that teaches about the Greeks, and about how to read the fundamentals on potential investments.
I didn't find a lot about chart reading technique n this book, but you can get that from other excellent books. Part of this book's strength is found in its quick charts that show, at a glance, exactly how to execute most options strategies for upward and downward moving markets. Since I have read this book, I have traded nothing but options and have grown my portfolio steadily. I'm no longer interested in buying stocks; they are simply too expensive and slow moving.
Hope this helps.

Excellent learning book for technical option learning.......2006-07-09
This books explains most option constructions and how to calculate there potential profit. If you need to train yourself in spreads concepts, this training manual is for you. First the spread is explained and then some calculation examples are given. Don't expect a when to use these spreads manual. It's not there. This is a excellent book for training yourself in setting up all kind of option structures and know what the costs are and profits. Also all the Greeks are explained in detail, and the first manual that makes it understandable for me :-)
Skeptical.......2006-03-03
I am skeptical over the reviews of this book. I bought it but returned the book to Borders after a surprise check on Amazon.com on the reviews by so-called "readers" here. If you look at the review dates, all were dated around May-June 2002. If you're not convinced, click on each reviewer and most of them actually did only review (5 stars) for this book. Who knows, it could be a marketing tactics? I went over to check Barnes & Noble and it was exactly the same.. reviews were all done from May-June 2002 then full-stop. So I'm not saying anything, I did buy the book for 2 days, but I was not impressed. No thanks.
Basic Simple Review.......2006-02-19
Good book for the basics of understanding the mechanics of options but not a lot of use for actual trading. It really is light on useful fundamental concepts you should use to trade - maybe that's what you get in the additional products they have for sale.

a cute little resource.......2002-11-01
This book is part of a series of all kinds of minorities and their political participation. This is the second great book on gay voter behavior that I've found from Haider-Markel. This book discusses the history of American gay rights, gay voting traits, and gay/lesbian officials in office. Though I found this book in a university library, I think the book would be quite accessible to non-academic readers. You can tell the editors did much numbers-crunching and studies-summarizing. There are no photos or charts here, which is a shame. This is a survey book and those knowledgeable about gay rights or gay studies may be frustrated. For example, presidential candidate Michael Dukakis was an outspoken foe of gay rights, yet this is not mentioned here. In discussing gays in the judicial branch, nothing is mentioned of BJ Cruz, the openly gay Supreme Court justice in Guam. The status of gay rights and gay voters keeps morphing, so I hope the editors keep printing updates of their text. All in all, this was a decent introduction to the topic.

Book Description
This volume presents Einstein's writings from the final period of his work in Switzerland. Most of the material in Volume 4 documents Einstein's search for a relativistic theory of gravitation, a search that ended in Berlin in the fall of 1915 with the completion of the general theory of relativity.
Three scientific manuscripts, printed here for the first time, provide insight into Einstein's efforts to generalize his original relativity theory into a theory of gravitation. The first is a review article on the special theory of relativity. The second consists of notes that document Einstein's research on gravitation. The third manuscript contains calculations on the problem of the motion of the perihelion of Mercury. The explanation of the observed anomaly of this motion was to become one of the classical tests of general relativity. The existence of such a manuscript has not been known before now. All three of these manuscripts, along with other material in this volume, add significantly to our understanding of the creation of general relativity.
This supplementary paperback volue presents only the English translations of non-English materials and is not intended for use without the original-language documentary edition.

Book Description
Open City is a rare contemporary phenomenon: a literary journal that gets people talking about literature, with contributions from a dynamic mix of prominent writers, undiscovered aspirants, and lost treasures by writers from past eras. From Edvard Munch's journals to Terry Southern's screenplays to Rick Moody's poetry to Michael Cunningham's essays to Mary Gaitskill's short stories, Open City features an exciting range of talents, with an edgy style and wit not to be found in any other literary journal. Volume Number 17 contains stories by Jack Walls, Adrian Dannatt, and Siobhan Reagan; poetry by Nathaniel Bellows, Heidi Kujac, and Daniel Nester; and art by Matthew Higgs, Delia Brown, and Kerry Tribe. "Open City showcases the literature of tomorrow today." -- Los Angeles Times

the "New" paris review.......2004-06-09
funky and astute might be appropriate adjectives to describe Open City mag., which is more than a literary portrait "of New York City and the city in general." with writing not merely urban(e) or cynical (consider the dense, nature-themed poetry of Rodney Jack and the quirky yet illuminating work of Catherine Bowman in #18), here is the intelligentsia--artful and heartfelt, in a format as original as the visions it collects.
