The description, book jacket and even the introduction offer no clue that this book is, in fact, nothing more than a pep talk for those who are stuck in multi-level marketing schemes and are having difficulty sucking other people in. I only ordered the book because it was mentioned in an article about job-hunting in the Chicago Tribune's Career Builder section. On thumbing through the book, I couldn't figure out what the content had to do with anything until I noticed multiple references to "this business". After drilling down a little deeper, I realized I'd been had. There's nothing in here that's really applicable to anyone who's not a "distributor" or a "sponsor" with a "group", and I'd rather be roasted over hot coals than become one. The only reason I'm not returning the book for a refund is that it'd probably cost more than half of what I paid for it just to ship it back. I gave it one star only because the color scheme of the cover is nice.

After reading Fuhrman, book If they say no Just say Next, one would be able to learn a lot of secrets that could eventually turn on the path of his/her own life. The book would be most interesting tot hose who get extremely depressed from rejection, and those who are not reciptive of the No's in their life. I for onew, get extremekly demotivated if someone says no to me, or to something I suggested. This book gets this issue completely turned around making me a better person. It is simply a book that helps anyone in personal or business development, to cut it short this book is a MUST HAVE!!

This book is like a "roadmap" in the sense that it gives you the gravel and shovels to make a road, but no map to what I would call a strategy. Lots of details of tax rules and education procedures are inside, and in that sense it could serve as a supporting reference. Perhaps the book's Appendix G was destined to become the "strategy" portion of the text, but it is unfortunate that this appendix did not get out of its draft stage before the book got printed.
I recommend going to places like [...]'s college savings center and get everything that this text offers, with more details and actual strategy and ... dare I say it ... better written sentences.

Not what I thought it was..........2006-11-16
If you are looking for reference materials to take the California Engineering Surveying Exam as part of the Civil Engineer's PE exam, this is not the book you want. It doesn't cover the general concepts that an engineer is looking for. Seems to directed more at a person working on a surveying crew instead.

Requires a connecting book to enable reader to work with modern day total stations and the softwares available with them. Typically, advanced topics such as developing set-collection of survey points, their imporance and criteria for selection etc.

Good primer.......2004-12-27
This book gives a great intro to Einstein, that's understandable and lends to the appreciation as to what a great thinker Einstein truly was.
Other great books along this same vein are E=MC2, and Fermats Enigma, the latter gets a bit deeps towards the end but the beginning chapters really flesh out number theory in a historical context that really freshens the mathematic atmosphere.
Will aspiring mathematics majors appreciate Einstein's Brainchild? If you involve yourself with the process of introduction and discourse, they probably would!

Nice book!.......2004-04-17
This book is great! It answers every question you've ever had about the universe, plus tons more. Not only does it tell you about Einstein's theories, it tells you about his life, friends, competitors, everything! I have learned so much from this book! Don't think it is written for children, because it is most certainly not. I got confused sometimes, but not too much. I recommend this to anyone with an interest in space or anything to do with it, it is really quite fascinating, especially because I want to be an astrological physicist when I'm older!

In this book, the authors focus on the importance of relationship in psychotherapy. Relationships between people form the basis of our daily lives. We require this contact with others, the sense of respect and value it produces, the relational needs it fulfills. As we face the inevitable traumas of life, large and small, our ability to make full contact with others is often disrupted. As this reduction in contact increases, relational needs go unfulfilled, producing psychological dysfunction. Beyond Empathy offers therapists a methodology for assisting people in rediscovering their ability to maintain genuine, contactful relationships and thus, better psychological health.
The authors describe an integrative psychotherapy approach that they have developed and now teach at the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy in New York City. It draws from Rogers' client-centered therapy, Berne's transactional analysis, Perls' Gestalt therapy, Kohut's self psychology, and the work of British object-relations theorists. Written in a conversational style, the book introduces the theory behind the approach while using real life interchanges between therapists and clients to illustrate the concepts it presents. The second part of the book details the application of this method in therapy work and provides almost complete transcripts from seven therapy sessions. These include examples of psychotherapeutic regression, working with a parental introject, couples psychotherapy, and more.

The rare volume it is that serves as a clear exposition of the art and craft of psychotherapy. Beyond Empathy illuminates integrative psychotherapy, a theory and method of relational treatment, as useful for the seasoned practitioner as for the beginning therapist.
A basic premise of the authors is that psychological health and growth rest upon the foundation of the quality of our relationships. Bringing into awareness interruptions to contact within the self and with others is a main focus of treatment. Through the skillful use of inquiry, attunement and involvement, the integrative psychotherapist works to bring the client into full relational contact.
The authors identify and explain in depth eight relational needs: security, valuing, acceptance, mutuality, self-definition, making an impact, having the other initiate, expressing love. They posit that these needs are present in every relationship and, in fact, define a relationship. An integral part of the therapeutic framework is the valuing of the functions of the client's coping mechanisms and defenses. The authors believe that only through this valuing does the client become willing to let go of old patterns (fixed gestalten), that were once psychologically protective and now are maladaptive and anachronistic. Deepening the understanding of what other therapies may see as therapeutic impasse, the important concept of justaposition is explained; that is, progress may be slowed due to the marked contrast between what is provided in the therapeutic relationship and what was needed and longed for, but not provided in prior important relationships.
Beyond Empathy goes beyond theory to extrapolate a theory of methods. These methods serve to deepen the client's affective experience, enhancing heart-to-heart contact in relationship. This builds uppon Erskine & Moursund's prior work, Integrative Psychotherapy in Action (Gestalt Journal Press, 1998), which is organized primarily around a theory of therapy and provides extensive transcripts of live work. The live transcripts in this volume also include a detailed look at the therapists' interventions. They are good companion volumes.
Whether you plan to use this as a text or a reference book, it is an essential adddition to any clinician's library. It is the culmination of decades of clinical expertise, original thought, and synthesis of concepts drawn from the best traditions of theory and practice of psychotherapy.
