The book is really basic in nature and tries to cover what the title conveys. I am disappointed that the math involved in most futures and options is not even touched upon (it could have been even without calculus). There are plenty of other books out there that do a much better job in introducing futures with math.

A must read for futures beginners.......2000-11-25

I've read many futures trading books and I think this is "the" best book for beginners. The language is easy to understand and the author explained things step by step in a very organized matter. If you ever consider learning about futures, this is the book you have to read. I still use it as reference and it's one of my favorite books.

Great book for beginners........1999-01-23

Todd Lofton is affilliated with Futures Magazine and has written an excellent book for beginning traders. I picked this book up at a Chapters location in Canada, and, if you can find it, get it for your library for future reference on futures trading.

Poor Casebook.......2007-07-30

zanandjayna's review sums up much about how I feel about this casebook.

Other complaints that I had is that the notes/comments sections are quite poor and are usually of little relevance to the case and/or concept you just studied. Also many of the cases have been poorly edited, leaving out key concepts that most prof's expect you to know.

All in all, this is a poor casebook. If you use it i recomend a good supplement.

Great Casebook.......2005-11-10

In comparison to the other casebooks I've been forced to read this year as a 1L, this casebook is probably the best written. Instead of just placing emphasis on the cases and the rules to glean from them, it also highlights key principles and strategies to use as a lawyer in the future(termed lawyering by the authors). I must admit that taking Nathan Crystal's contract class obviously helps in the understanding of the book, but it's a good regardless.

best casebook out there.......2003-12-22

This casebook was, by far, the best casebook I had as a 1L. It was well-organized, insightful, and clear. The author notes did much to clarify the complexities of contract law. As a student of Knapp's I'm probably a bit biased, but I did effectively learn my contracts.

This book is extremely tedious. The authors use extensive language, commentary, and notes which further confuse and do not explain the already-difficult concepts presented in the cases.

find an old edition of this book if the editions are similar. The cases in it are old so the law isn't really changing so if you can tolerate not being on the exact same page in class & can deal with figuring out the different pages save your money since this text is hard to follow! the notes and problems aren't helpful

Just terrible.......2005-05-05

I had Crandall (one of the authors) for Contracts my first year of law school. We unfortunately had to use this wretched book. What's funny is that he kept referring us to Farnsworth and Murray if we needed extra help with the material. Turns out that Farnsworth and Murray were so good, you didn't need even need to read the cases. This awful case book is such a POS, it's not worth the paper on which its written.

The case book itself was poorly edited, and the authors' comments/explanations may as well have been written in Chinese. To me it is quite clear that this book was a way for the authors and Aspen Publishing to make $ as it added absolutely nothing that didn't already exist in the Contracts case book market.

so-so text...
it's funny that it represents reason as opposed to the faith (meaning Christian faith). The entire section is called "reason versus faith" - that's weird... Faith is not versus reason.
Book is kinda alright, but it subliminally biased a little (well, where are the unbiased textbooks anyway?)...
Text presents some good essays, but could have been better...

Argumentation at Its Best!.......2003-02-15

This book is organized under 9 sections each containing several papers and excerpts written by well-known philosophers of science. Each section deals with a major theme in the philosophy of science such as the nature of scientific theories, reason vs. faith, some contemporary issues like the philosophy of physics, psychology and biology, and more.

What makes this book unique is that each paper (or excerpt) is followed by a paper (or excerpt) supporting an opposing argument to one just presented. The juxtaposition of two texts provides the reader with adequate material with which to ponder. The author's purpose does not appear to give the reader two options from which to choose the "better" argument, for this would be the fallacy of false alternative... nor does the author do this to encourage the reader to find a "happy" compromise between opposing arguments, for this would be utilizing the defeated Socratic dialectic... the purpose is to promote critical thinking in the reader. Analogically speaking, this book is to the reader (philosopher) what weights are to a body builder. It is the food for thought! A well-organized intelligent read I highly recommend!

As a former student of Dr.Schick, I can credit him with teaching me the value of critical thinking, and how to do it. Here, is an excellent collection of great thinkers, with insight and commentary on the nature of life, man, and mind.
