Drawing on the extensive and unparalleled international marketing experience of its authors, International Marketing takes a comprehensive look at the environment, problems, and practices of today?s international marketing arena. Customer Reviews:
Thorough Coverage of Every Facet of International Marketing.......2001-01-30
This textbook is organized into three major sections:
Part One: The International Environment - includes chapters on the concept of global marketing, the world economy, foreign economies, the people of the world and the political-legal environment.
Part Two: International Marketing Management - includes chapters on global marketing strategy, international marketing intelligence, product policy, new product development, foreign market entry, foreign market channels and global logistics, promotion and advertising, pricing, and marketing of services.
Part Three: Coordinating International Marketing - includes chapters on planning, organizing and control of international marketing, information technology and the future of international marketing.
The text is liberally sprinkled with interesting and relevant illustrations, case studies and examples. As either a textbook or reference source, it is an excellent up-to-date overview on every aspect of international marketing.
My only criticism is that the page after page of dense text could have been enlivened considerably with the use of color graphics and illustrations.
International Marketing Terpstra.......2000-04-16
A prescribed text book for MBA students. Unfortunately I found it somewhat lacking in depth and had to resort to others.
Pretty interesting book.......2000-04-06
This book is a good one to learn how big companies apply marketing overseas.

Book Description
This analytical anthology introduces students with little background in either to both law and philosophy using prominent classic political philosophers, legal theorists, and abundant landmark court cases. Legal issues are placed in their historical and philosophical contexts. The book considers critical issues such as civil disobedience, war crimes, and the death penalty. It teaches the basics of international, constitutional, and criminal law and shows how philosophy of law helps makes sense of and unifies the seeming “scraps and fragments” of law. The chapters focus on different areas of law and on different philosophers and philosophies. A classical political philosopher anchors each area of law covered. The anthology includes writings from prominent political philosophers (Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, Kant, Mill, Nietzsche, and Rawls), from classical legal theorists (Aquinas, Grotius, Austin, Fuller, Hart, and Dworkin), and from judicial opinions (Justices Blackmun, Brennan, Marshall, Rehnquist, and Scalia).
Customer Reviews:
Is Law Distantly Related to Philosophy!.......2002-05-21
I read the book and found it very interesting and useful. It is indeed a difficult task to cover many aspects of relationship between Law and Philosophy in one single volume. In this post-modern age Law is somehow became too technical and practical to be maintained traditional organic relationship with philosophy. Is it then true that law is only distantly related to Philosophy! Does Philosophy has anything substantial to offer to genuine legal theories and thoughts! All legal systems are primarily rooted in some legal philosophy. But in our highly technological age rarely law professors and students find a closer relationship between philosophy and law-related subjects. It is a failure of our generation around the world. As a result these days hardly any serious scholar try to present some comprehensive thoughts relating philosophical theories to the legal postulates.
Law losing its closer touch with political and social theories simply become immoral instrument of state-authority to suppress the majority by a tiny minority. Professor Simon takes this issue seriously in his book and successfully establishes that morality is a corner stone in legal philosophy and thoughts. Kantian Idealism and Hobbesian Realisn received a good deal of treatement in the book. Analysis of the Universal principles of Law and Morality may attract many rightly-guided legal minds.
Ethics in Law cannot be over emphasised in our present day of lawlessness and endamic rise of crimes around the world. Regarding the issues of "programmatic rights" Professor Simon's words: "After all, a mere commitment to social assistance from cradle to grave can lead to relaxed vigilance concerning who is eligible for the cradle and who is ready for the grave." (p.310)
In most cases books on philosophy cannot provide realistic and provocative legal thoughts because authors do not maintain a proper balance between the two. The efforts of making a balance between legal thoughts and appropriate philosophical grounding of those ideas are very remarkable in the book. Prof. Simon has been trying to do something ground-breaking in this area. I am looking forward to his next contribution and strongly suggest to students and teachers to examine the book and author for their own clarity in concerned areas (Law, Political Sciences, and Philosophy) of study and interest.
Finally, a book that REALLY works!!.......2000-11-07
This book really works!! There seem to be countless introductory texts that try and explian the intricate relationship between law and philosophy. Thomas Simon's book is the first that I have read that readily helps its readers to wrap their minds around the fundamental aspects of law and its philosophical underpinnings. The carefully edited selections of readings helps to bring to life critical as well as controversial issues. Although obviously designed as a introductory text, the book gives thorough attention to the most basic philosophies as well as complex contemporary legal theories. The author's questions that follow each chapter are primed to encourage lively discussion. This book gets at the heart of the matter without being overly dense, boring or unreadable, a quality seldom seen in texts of this kind.

Book Description
The book has three main objectives: to show the development of the Common Agricultural Policy and the status of environmental priorities in agriculture; to analyse the implementation of the relevant Agri-Environmental law and policy in the United Kingdom; and to examine those other areas of Agri-Environmental law which are not tied to subsidies and production quotas in agriculture. Overall, the book takes a critical look at the often controversial relationship between the supply control mechanisms of agricultural policy and the environmental priorities of landscape protection and pollution control.

Customer Reviews:
Essential!!!.......2004-12-11
Jazz music in their creators' own words. A fine job by Shapiro and Hentoff. Hentoff tends to be opinionated, but here he's just a compiler.
Excellent Book!!!!.......2001-12-24
I first read this book at The University of Michigan over twenty years ago, and gave my copy away to a friend over 15 years ago, who...to my surprise (!)...was married to a drummer for a very famous Jazz musician mention in this book!,...and I now just ordered a copy for my library...and to read over... and over again....
Excellent "quotes" from some of the most influential players in original American music history!!!
A 'must have' for anyone seriously interested in the origins of Jazz, it roots, it's movement up the Missippi to Chicago...And it's told from the people who not only played it...but also lived it!
If you finished reading this review, then this book is probably for you!!!
A very good reed!
A Great history of American Music.......2000-08-11
This is a great book! It is the story of Jazz, as told by the men and women that made it. What more could you ask for! For the serious Jazz fan or for anyone interested in music history this book is a must. Why read what critics and journalist have to say when you can get it, 'straight from the horses' mouth'.
Jazz Pioneers Tell Their Own Story.......2000-03-25
This is a great introduction to Jazz History for anyone just becoming interested in the subject. Anyone who has been into jazz for some time who hasn't read "Hear Me Talkin' To Ya" yet is missing a real treat. This is full of facinating information, and is a great read.
The book is wonderfull and colorfull look at the origins and development of jazz music from New Orleans at the start of the 1900s to the start of BeBop in New York mid-century. As the full title states, this is "The Story of Jazz As Told By The Men [and Women] who Made It". This is a compilation of excerpts from interviews, letters, autobiographies, and articles with jazz musicians, both greats and less well known musicians who have good stories to tell. Louis Armstrong, Bunk Johnson, Sidney Bechet, Danny Barker, Hoagy Carmichael, Jelly Roll Morton, Mary Lou Williams, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Milt Hinton, Charlie Parker, Dave Brubeck, and many others have their say.
Highly recomended!

Hanging on.......2007-07-13
This collection of vignettes awakened images and experiences in my life that almost parallel those of the author. Experiences made when I did not acknowledge God's existence: or even that He would have an interest in me. Reliving them now in the light of today's knowledge has been an eye opener. The author has, I believe, captured the essence of life and distilled it through his own experience to produce thought provoking insights into our search for, and communion with, God.

Book Description
Jeremy struggles to write his dissertation on the Amish and the laws of expulsion. How does someone, excluded entirely from the only community they have ever known, live the rest of their life? After extensive interviews with Beulah—a young woman banished—Jeremy is no closer to understanding her choice than he is to his own peculiar exile.
Camp Ironwood, set in the Vermont woods, is more than a summer distraction for restless adolescent boys—it is a place to belong. And not unlike the Amish community, it is a place where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. For Jeremy, first as a camper and later as the co-director, the usual camp activities become their own kind of ritual that binds the community. But when he is blindsided by the seductive charm of Max, a fourteen-year-old boy from Manhattan, all arms and legs and attitude, Jeremy must confront his desires, and worse yet, uncover the dark secrets of his beloved Camp Ironwood.
In this powerful and daring novel, Lowenthal elegantly draws unexpected parallels between the Amish and Camp Ironwood. By doing so, he ingeniously explores an age-old dilemma: individual desires versus the good of a community.
Customer Reviews:
Decent, but Nothing Great.......2007-08-09
I found this novel to be a play of two concepts; that of Amish life and shunning, along with that of camp life and community. The juxtaposition of the two concepts went well throughout the novel. Making relations between the amish life and the summer camp was interesting. Overall I found the main character a little creepy, albeit that's what made me appreciate the author more; since the main character is very flawed. The story seemed a bit contrived or perhaps overdone, but I think the way it was told was new and original. I was surprised to see it end as it did, but the message of avoidance became much more prevalent when the ending was considered.
It's almost a typical tragedy story, but it has some interesting twists. It was well written, though some larger words popped up here and there that seemed superfluous, the idea that it was being written by a man working on a degree shone through. It wasn't really for me, but I liked the emotion it brought out in my mind.
As an aside, I didn't really see this as "gay fiction". The whole thing seemed like a big misnomer to tag it as in the first place. It's as if gay is being equated with child molester, which is as far from the truth as you can get. I understand the main character's struggle with his sexuality in the context of the story, but still, it's more of a story of molestation and shunned behaviors than anything else.
does he REALLY know how teenagers talk?.......2006-10-31
okay...so i pick up this book on amazon.it got great reviews from the customers. it got a decent review from publishers weekly. but gay fiction is often predictable and trite.there.i said it. while the characters and plot are interesting to me,particularly, the amish subplot, the language seemed stilted, especially when max would talk in 'teen speak'. i actually flinched in the bathtub reading it.then i read it out loud and started laughing.for all the wrong reasons. its been a few months and i dont feel like finding the book to transcribe the offending passages but i will say that it was a disappointment.i felt like michael lowenthal had the recipe for a very good novel and it turned into a lifetime movie starring tori spelling and chad allen.
Outside laws v. inner laws.......2006-10-10
Absolutely outstanding. This novel is a work of brilliance on so many levels: unique, effortless prose without pretension; three-dimensional characters who deftly creep inside your mind; a beautifully constructed, poignant tale that is tense, powerful and thought-provoking. The sort of novel that is deemed 'controversial' and 'provocative' by the mindless masses, 'Avoidance' deals with the conflicts between love and reason; between sense and sensibility; between loyalty to the inner-self and the self that is presented to the outside world.
A postgraduate student in his late-20s, Jeremy is Assistant Director at a summer camp for boys - a camp which he himself attended as a child. At first curiously asexual, Jeremy's passion and inner-conflict erupt upon the arrival of 14-year old Max at the summer camp. Brash, enigmatic and alluring, Max seduces everyone with his roguish charm and sweaty-adolescent sexuality (everyone orbits around Max, "as the sun from which they fear losing warmth"). Clearly, trouble lies ahead, and the tension mounts excruciatingly as Jeremy is tormented by his own desires - and those of others.
The exceptionally apt background story (of Jeremy's term-time research into the Amish people, and specifically into those members who have been expelled by the Amish community) serves to illuminate the conundrum that he must now attempt to resolve: "Can you be loyal to your old self but also to the new? To outside laws and also inner ones?" This is the truly haunting aspect of the novel: its potential lose-lose scenario; the loneliness of the decision that must be made - and the complete absence of any possibility of compromise.
An incredibly engaging work, (seemingly) effortlessly penned by a tremendously talented author, Michael Lowenthal's 'Avoidance' climbs easily into a small clique of novels (such as Rod Downey's 'The Moralist') that will quietly take up residence in a corner of your mind forever. Exceptional.
A Void of Morals.......2006-06-28
Make no mistake about it: this is a story about child abuse. Physical and mental. However beautifully written (and it is), it is about child abuse. Three major characters engage in it and one even manages to get away with it. (Jeremy has never before acted on his impulses but what about Ruff and Charlie? One has spent decades and the other years in a summer camp for boys. It seems highly unlikely that they only did this once.)
Layered over the shenanigans at Camp Ironwood is a second storyline about Jeremy's thesis on the Amish. While I get the author's parallels, I found the whole Amish angle somewhat extraneous. So that leaves Max, the 14-year-old who has led a really hard life, but who becomes the star of this story. He is precocious and adorable. Overall, this is an engrossing read, but it treats adults who diddle with young teens a little too easily.
My Best Friend is Gay.......2006-06-10
This is a very heavy book, with a lot of deep, underlying issues to ponder.
The author creates two very well developed characters - Jeremy, older, slightly insecure, and Max, this seductive young city boy that Jeremy can't help but fall for.
Throughout the book, the relationship between Jeremy and Max as counselor and camper develops, and it makes the reader hungry for more. Unfortunately, the ending is rather heartbreaking.
Overall, however, this is an amazing piece of gay literature. I'm a heterosexual female, but still, this was one of the most amazing books I've ever read. I think that anyone who can take the time to appreciate it will be able to enjoy it and love it as much as I do.

Description:
Rats were given differential exposure to three distinct and novel foods. One of these foods was exposed for 7 days; another for 2 days, and the last was not exposed. Next, half of the rats received six daily sessions in which a compound of the three flavors was followed by opportunities to run in wheels. The other rats received the food compound but without wheel running. On the next day, all rats were given a choice among the three food flavors presented concurrently in separate dishes. When the compound food had been followed by wheel running, rats ate little of the food given no pre-exposure, more of the food given 2 days of pre-exposure, and considerably more of the food given 7 days of pre-exposure. In comparison, rats who did not receive an opportunity to run ate equal and moderate amounts of the three foods. The results suggest that pre-exposure to a food's taste produces latent inhibition that interferes with conditioned taste avoidance produced by pairing a taste (CS) with wheel running (US).
