A really nice book...what we always do haven't always got results we want and expect...This book really shows the invisible boosters which winners of our times have in them...A must buy for those dare to be different...but get ready for a cultural and emotional shock...this one is different...

Theres this old line - If a man wrote a book on how to lose and it did very bad, could it be called it a success?
And today after reading Sin To Win, Ive come to ask myself just that.

What made me buy the book was its gleamy evil look. I love books on corporate power and powerful relationships. A book I loved is Robert Greene's 48 LAws of power.
The next book i bought - Sin to win has been a complete disaster.

I havent read any other of the authors and pray i never do so.
The book has a feel of being written while under the influence of alcohol. Ofcourse the deadly sins are good but it didnt have to be proved practically on the content.

Some sections inspire. Like Anger and how it can be used productively.
But the rest makes me feel like eating my leg while piercing my ears with red hot needles [phrase taken from the book];)

Two most annoying features of the book are, one, the author talks of incidents and stories which are mostly unrelated to the context and worse at times contradictory to the point he is making
And two, the language.
I wouldnt want to be taught or even be spoken to by a person who loves using words like _... substitution_ and _nice, slow ... job_ in his text as if he was describing the engineering of a Jag Engine which he claims is made by Ford.

I would strongly recommend against this book unless the reader desperately needs to find a preson who is worse than the worst he knows

This book has two themes: Private Banking and investment decisions regarding Structural Financial Products. Dr. Dimitris Chorafas examines in a rigorous way whether structured financial products are advisable investments for retail and institutional investors and, if yes, which risks they entail. As our society becomes increasingly affluent, and state-supported pension schemes find it difficult to survive, a growing number of high net-worth individuals, and families, have become retail investors looking for ways and means to optimize wealth management, and Private Banking deals with these sorts of clients. Private banking also deals with clients that are institutional investors, such as pension funds, mutual funds, and insurance companies, as well as not-for-profits, foundations and companies explicitly set up for wealth management. Both institutional and retail investors are being offered by the banks they work with structured products. Typically, these are securities that provide them with a redemption amount, with may be either with full or partial capital protection, and some type of return. The book examines structured financial products, their polyvalent nature, and the results which could be expected from them.

Return on structural instruments, which are essentially derivatives, is paid in function of a specific investment strategy on selected underlying asset(s). This essentially means on the performance of the underlyings, obtained by asset managers, which may be banks or hedge funds, through purchase or sale of embedded options. But there are risks. Both risk and return from structured products are related to three main issues: the volatility of future value of an underlying, the uncertainty of future events, and the exposure of the product. Every type of investment is subject to market forces, and the more leveraged a portfolio is, the greater will probably be both the assumed risk and the expected reward. The fact that structured financial products appeal, or at least are being marketed, to both retail investors and institutional investors makes the dual approach deliberately chosen in this book most advisable. This book addresses all these issues in a practical manner with numerous case studies and real-world examples drawn from the authors intensive research.

It's pretty good.......2003-06-16

I don't own this book but my friend does, and it's wonderful to have all the practice regents. Usually the questions on past regents are very similar to the one you're going to take. The only thing about this book is that the past regents can also be found on the internet site [...]. So you have a lot of the same things on that site, for free. Though the worthwhile thing about the Barron's book is that it has the "answers explained" section. So I would probably recommend buying it. I'm taking the Earth Science Regents in four days and I'm pretty confident about it, thanks to my wonderful teacher and the practice I had taking past regents.

Good study guide!.......1999-04-16

I am one of like the 60% who failed the Earth Science Regents exam in New York City in June of 1998. While the test and my teacher were impossible, I do believe that the 53% of what I got right came from the power pack. And when I didn't follow a teacher's method of using the books and thoroughly studied them properly, it helped me pass the exam in January of 1999. The Earth Science regents has gone from one of the easiest to THE hardest of the NY Regents Exams and this pack has helped me and many of my friends pass the exam. The blue book particularly is very helpful. So pick this up if you're having trouble or want to improve your skills.

Good Bookend.......2000-02-12

In my college physics course, I frequently found myself throwing this textbook against the wall and referring to my "Cartoon Guide to Physics" (Gonick..highly recommended). This entire book should be reduced to the summaries at the end of the chapter, for all else is useless jumble. I spend 4 hours trying to figure out the difference between a parallel and a series circuit, concluding that the best option would be a physics bonfire. Would this book conduct electric charge, where would the field lines point? I don't know, because I read this book.

As a college student, I always hoped for easy-to-understand textbooks every semester. This book met my expectations! It is taught from a non-calculus point of view...but those of us that know calculus will know how to deal with the myriad of equations that you encounter in physics.

Jones and Childers have put a great textbook together. The chapters are very easy to understand--concepts are explained thoroughly, and then supplemented with examples that are solved step by step and the results are discussed. The figures are drawn well--even things like relativity and quantum mechanics make more sense after reading this book!

To summarize--if this is the textbook for your class, you are in luck. Buy it...if you are interested in physics at all, you will enjoy the book. If you are looking for a book to help learn concepts in physics, and want a textbook, this one is for you too! Compared to all the other textbooks out there, this is one of the top two (Serway's book being the other).

A Contemporary Review of "Contemporary College Physics".......2001-11-03

This book is very well written, due to the choices of sentences and words. The sentences are to the point and not like MANY physics books who dance around the topic. In addition to having carefully chosen examples that illustrates its point clearly.
The book also has nice illustrations printed on nice paper, unlike other EXPENSIVE books printed on "cheap" paper. The book includes all the topics other books would cover in two volumes and hence would cost significantly more. I highly recommend this text for anyone (including poor students like me)!! ;)
