Using both sides of the brain.......2007-01-11
By the time they seek the help of a professional organizer, many people have already read countless books about getting organized, only to become frustrated when they're unable to apply the authors' suggestions. While teaching time management courses, author Ann McGee-Cooper noticed that the prescribed systems worked well for half of the class, but that the others had reverted to their previous methods in less than a week.
Studies show that the two sides of the brain control different modes of thinking, and that most individuals have a preference for one side or the other. The preferences located on the left side of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® type chart (Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking and Judging) correspond to left brain thinking, and those on the right side (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling and Perceiving) correspond to right brain thinking. It is not surprising that many time management experts are left-brain thinkers for whom organization comes naturally. Unfortunately, their suggestions are often ineffective for right-brain thinkers, due to the different ways they process information. McGee-Cooper recognized this fact, and set out to write a guide on time management for right-brained thinkers. As a right-brained individual who has overcome traits of dyslexia, hyperactivity, and attention deficit disorder to become a successful author, lecturer, business consultant, creativity expert and business owner, Ann McGee-Cooper knows her subject matter well, and presents her information clearly and with a sense of humor.
This book is fun, and so is McGee-Cooper's approach to time management. She encourages the reader to make important information stand out on his or her calendar by using highly visual cues such as colors, pictures, symbols, or stickers, and to reduce stress by incorporating play time into daily life. With self-assessments, helpful hints, time-related quotes, and humorous illustrations, even left-brained thinkers are sure to enjoy reading this book and to find some ideas for fine-tuning their own time management systems.
Learn to Play!.......2006-06-29
There are some definite pros and cons to this text. It was not at all what I expected, but I did find some value in it. Overall, the authors were so politically-correct as to be irritating to me, and the worldview - especially in the first section - was subtly anti-biblical. (This will, of course, be viewed by some readers as a strength and by others as a weakness.)
For my purposes, there are two great weaknesses here. The first is that the bulk of the book is simply not practical; it's theoretical. Some of this theory was very interesting, but it wasn't what I was looking for when I purchased a book about time management. The second is that the examples all relate to the corporate world. As a full-time wife and mother, I would have appreciated some examples demonstrating how the theories apply to homemaking and family.
I did, however, derive one significant benefit from the book which was completely unexpected. The portions about the importance of PLAY were very enlightening for me. Having been diagnosed with adrenal fatigue (read: stress syndrome), I have been made profoundly aware of my own dysfunction in this area of "play" or "relaxation." The authors of this book have not only presented the importance of play in a very balanced manner, they have also offered practical suggestions for regaining one's ability to "play."
I am glad I bought the book, but if specific, practical methods of time management are what you seek, you might want to look at others, instead.
Absolutely the best book for creative/right brain people.......2004-09-14
This is absolutely the best time management book for right brain, creative people like me. I read lots of books and articles on time management, and benefited from many tips. But the fit was never just right. This book addresses monochronic time (linear, clock time), and polychronic time (what creative types deal with). And lots of other key topics that hit home. It answered many questions for me (Why was I always buying some new organizer, or gadget to help me organize myself and my environment? Why could I not just work top-to-bottom on my To Do list?)
I bought my first copy about 8-9 years ago. Now, I am buying my fourth copy, as I keep giving them away to folks like me.
If you are a creative person or right-brain person, you should read this book. If traditional time management techniques don't really "fit" you, you should read this book.
Not recommended.......2004-08-17
This book was not helpful. There is little here that has not been better presented elsewhere. While I liked the first chapter about different styles of time management, knowing this information did little to help me with my own time management issues. Some suggestions even seem silly-such as changing your time management system to suit your mood. Alan Lakein's "How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life" is still the most valuable book on time management out there.
A real eye-opener.......2004-05-16
I thought this book was great. I had the opportunity to hear the author speak years ago and I felt like she was talking to me with her message - both in person and in the book. I'm a very logical person who never felt comfortable organizing in a file-laden, logical way. This book showed me how to use my strengths instead of fighting them.
Book Description
Putting money at risk in the markets exposes every trader to fear, greed and a host of other destructive emotions. For the first time ever in paperback, The Inner Game of Trading shows how to master the psychological skills that are essential to successful trading. It is an insightful, colorful book that reflects the collective wisdom of the best traders in the business. Topics include: Creating a winning system that fits individual personalities and analytical abilities; Models of success based on profiles of top traders; Demonstrated methods to recognize and overcome self-sabotage.
Customer Reviews:
Learn to Trade From Masters.......2007-03-26
Similar to Market Wizards, this book has a basic presentation and then interviews with master traders. Unlike market wizards, this one explores internal psych issues that are encountered to trade correctly. It is not as many interviews as Market Wizards, and does include key trading techniques.
Another Me Too book.......2003-11-26
Another "Me Too" book. Nothing new in this book that you can find in a hundred other better books.
Very Focused.......2002-07-12
The discussion is highly focused on the psychological requirements for being a top trader. Very succinct writing style that is practical, with no unnecessary pop-psychological meandering. Definitely worth a read.
Writing a bk (like this) is easy. Writing a good one is not.......2002-02-20
This book reminds me of a sentence I saw in Time Magazine several years ago from Bono of U2. "To me, writing a song is easy. Writing a good song is not."
The authors had given a good eg of the above and showed how to write and sell a trading book with the least effort.
First, create an eye catching name. "The inner game of trading" certainly qualifies. It is the best part of the book, in my opinion.
Second, talk about trading psychology. Ask readers whether they have goals, plans, strategies, the right motive (money should never be the first priority, they said) before any trade. Ask them to model themselves after successful traders to have edges in discipline, focus, knowledge...If you dont follow these and you dont know how to answer the questions, that's your fault. (Should the readers have a degree in psychology before reading this book so that they can condition themselves psychologically just by reading less than 10 pages of 1.5 line spacing script and undergoing serious personality change). 50 pages
Third, interviews with some famous names or at least figure heads from CME, so other members of the Exchange will do the recommendation and referral. They had Leo Melamed, who to me is a diplomat or CEO much and not a trader. 60 pages
Fourth, put some intelligent sayings, relevant or not, here and there. Appeal to experts, for the name of Thomas Edison and President Lincoln, can heighten trustworthiness.
Fifth, show charts and graphs, talk about technical analysis so that everything looks more scientific. 40 pages
Sixth, conclude that if readers can cut loss short, let profit ride, discipline themselves then they will be winners. The authors had not told you how but they had done their part. If the reader fails, it's just that he/she does not follow the teachings or lessons good enough. 30 pages
I am sorry to say so but I have to conclude that the authors just want cash in on their dubious trading knowledge (being in the trade is different from trading successfully), relation with institutions and the urge of market participants for trading advice. Certainly, writing a book can help the promotion of their daily business.
To save the best for last, the authors said that over 80% of market participants are losers and the turnover rate in CME had been 1/3 per annum. If you would like to belong to the crowd, buy and hold on to this book.
Psychological checklist for traders.......2001-05-03
I found this book to be very insightful and clear. I would recommend it to both inexperienced and experienced traders. I also found the trader interviews as well as the chapters on the psychology of technical analysis thought provoking and profitable.
Book Description
The acts of lawlessness committed on September 11, 2001 have been followed by a 'war on terror'. This book considers the law relevant to assessing how such terrorist' acts should be understood in legal terms, which responses to them are permissible and how those responses are to be pursued. It considers some of the actions that have unfolded since 9/11 (military intervention, law enforcement initiatives, human rights restrictions and abuse) prompting questions as to the 'war on terror's lawfulness. The volume clearly designates areas of international law where interest has escalated beyond traditional academic legal circles.

An empowering book for the spouse and husband to read........1998-08-03
All spouse's of prostate cancer patients should read this book. A wife's(Bev Farmer)perspective of what a man goes through when dealing with prostate cancer. A true journal that will guide you through many situations a patient and spouse encounter in their own plight with prostate cancer. In Alaska, 14 copies were sold May 11-16, 1998, in Fairbanks and Anchorage to spouses whose husband had treatment, recently been diagnosed, and to two Anchorage prostate cancer support groups. Bev Farmer is definitely making a difference with the people of Alaska. A true book of inspiration and hope giving people a stronger sense of faith. Thank you Bev Farmer for taking the intiative to help others in a time of need. Again, a must read book for prostate cancer patients and their spouses.

Book Description
Waves in the Ocean and Atmosphere presents a study of the fundamental theory of waves appropriate for first year graduate students in oceanography, meteorology and associated sciences. Starting with an elementary overview of the basic wave concept, specific wave phenomena are then examined, including: surface gravity waves, internal gravity waves, lee waves, waves in the presence of rotation, geostrophic adjustment, quasi-geostrophic waves and potential vorticity, wave-mean flow interaction and unstable waves. Each wave topic is used to introduce either a new technique or concept in general wave theory. Emphasis is placed on connectivity between the various subjects and on the physical interpretation of the mathematical results. The book contains numerous exercises at the end of the respective chapters.
Customer Reviews:
all of the essential of waves in the atmosphere and ocean .......2007-03-10
in meteorology and oceanography, there is no escape from the need to know waves well. even if you are not a dynamicist, you may find that you need to be familiar with many kinds of waves. fortunately, Pedlosky has put in one small-ish book a systematic introduction to waves. after studying this book, you will be more comfortable and confident with many things about waves. although you should probably know even more, because to know waves well cannot be overestimated in our fields.

One of the latest volumes of recorded lectures by the world's greatest physics teacher
Perseus Books is proud to announce the latest volumes in its series of recorded lectures by the late Richard P. Feynman, lectures originally delivered to his physics students at Caltech and later fashioned by the author into his classic textbook Lectures on Physics.
Customer Reviews:
Live from Caltech, It's Professor Richard Feynman ! ! !.......2001-04-11
Six Wonderful Pieces! This is my first and favorite unabridged audio collection of Feyman's Lectures on Physics which he delivered during the month February in 1962 at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). These events occurred 21 months before and 21 miles away from where I was born here in Southern California! I eagerly listen to all of these tapes over & over & over again - reveling in his style of teaching (humorous, witty, and humble). Much of the quantitative eludication of subject material surpasse my comprehension. Nonetheless, I just relax during my long commute to work and absorb whatever sinks in.
My only beef with this collection is that they (Helix Books/Perseus Publishing) left out some essential lectures which, in the book, complete the overall theme (i.e. light) such as his lectures on Polarization and the one on Radiation Damping/Light Scattering. Now, I understand that each volume of these boxed sets can probably only contain a maximum of six cassettes, however they ought to publish another collection that contains the "missing" lectures mentioned above. There are plenty of his other lectures on the subject of electromagnetics from the printed volumes to be found in the other series of Audio Volumes (e.g. audio volumes 1, 2, 3, 4 & 10) however they are not quite cohesive in their contiguity (kind of scattered/clumped together).
I have a total of nine (2-10) of the twelve currently available volumes (as of July 2001). Volumes 13 and 14 are forthcoming. See my 'Listmania Lists' for a convenient place to find almost all of the available Feynman audio.
One of the cool things you can do with these audio lectures is to listen to them and then correlate them to the famous collected three volume-printed sets of the "Feynman Lectures on Physics". They relate very well in my opinion.
FYI: this set of tapes is number eight in the audio collection series and the cassettes correlate to the printed lectures in the following manner:
Cassette 1 is Volume 1, Chapter 26: The Principle of Least Time; cassette 2 is Volume 1, Chapter 27: Geometrical Optics; cassette 3 is Volume 1, Chapter 28: Electromagnetic Radiation; cassette 4 is Volume 1, Chapter 29: Interference; cassette 5 is Volume 1, Chapter 30: Diffraction; and cassette 6 is Volume 1, Chapter 31: The Origin of the Refractive Index.
My favorite quotation out of these lectures is, "And thus is the universe knit together. The atomic motions of a star still have sufficient influence at this great distance to set the electrons in our eye in motion, and so we know about the stars. If this law did not exist, we would all be literally in the dark about the exterior world!"
Collect 'em all and enjoy! Please visit my Amazon personal profile by clicking the "IndiAndy (see more about me)" link above and drop me a line. It's a real treat hearing from visitors of my reviews.

Book Description
This final volume of Charlotte Bronte's letters covers the period from 1852, when she eventually completed Villette, to March 1855, when she died at the early age of 38. Published in January 1853, Villette reflects experiences and moods conveyed with sharp immediacy in the correspondence of the preceding years. In December 1852 one of her most dramatic letters described the crucial event in her private life: Arthur Nicholls's proposal of marriage, when, 'shaking from head to foot' he made her feel 'what it costs a man to declare affection where he doubts response.' Mr Bronte's furious opposition to the match was not overcome until 1854, the year of Charlotte's marriage on 29 June. In the all too few months before her death, she came to love and trust Nicholls, her 'dear boy' and her 'tenderest nurse' during her final illness. The letters in this volume include on the one hand Charlotte's brief curt note to George Smith on his engagement to Elizabeth Blakeway, and on the other a newly discovered letter describing with cheerful briskness Charlotte's purchase of her own wedding trousseau. Complete texts of letters previously published inaccurately or in part provide valuable insight into her other friendships. Those to Elizabeth Gaskell in particular have an important bearing on our interpretation and assessment of her Life of Charlotte, published early in 1857; and the inclusion of Harriet Martineau's angry comments on the Life ('Hallucination!' [Friendship] was never attained.') enhances our understanding of Charlotte's break with Martineau after her review of Villette. The redating of a letter has shown that the long estrangement between Charlotte and her oldest friend, Ellen Nussey, caused by Ellen's hostility to the idea of Charlotte's marriage with Nicholls, lasted without a break from July 1853 until late February 1854. The volume includes some of the touching notes from Charlotte's bereaved husband and father, written in response to condolences on her death. Mrs Gaskell's graphic account of her visit to Haworth in 1853 forms one of the appendices; others provide the texts of fragmentary letters, identify known forgeries, and list addenda and corrigenda for volumes 1 and 2.
