4 out of 5 stars Fit for its era........2007-05-20

An inspirational as well as an instructional book. This book is a good read for all who seek or need an inspirational push. You don't have to suffer from low self-esteem and lack of motivation to read "You Can Make It Happen". It is an easy to read and down to earth book. I have recommended this book to one of my family members.

5 out of 5 stars A great book.......2004-08-21

I saw this book in a store for about $2.50 and thought to myself what could it hurt to purchase "You can make it happen". Well purchasing Mr. Graham's book turned me around to the point that I see my vision for the future and what it has to offer me. I started by purchasing a day planner and already positive results have come into my life along with some positive thinking people. There are still many areas in my life that need to grow and improve, but we have to start somewhere. I would like to thank Mr. Graham for giving me the blueprint to success.

1 out of 5 stars Average, at best.......2004-03-16

Stedman's approach to motivating his readers is one all to common. I found this book only to be full of cliches - pointing out the obvious and reinforcing it like a nagging schoolteacher.

The bottom line is that this book lacks creativity; it is completely unoriginal and provides no means of inspiration to those whom read it.

5 out of 5 stars You Can Make it Happens Rocks!.......2003-11-05

I love Stedman's proactive philosophy about life and great success examples (the Dr J story is awesome). He reinforces the importance of taking action and having a plan to get what you want. It is the same theme in my dating book, SMART Man Hunting: How to Get Out There, Get Dates and Get Mr. Right! - i.e. if you want to find the right mate, you need a dating plan and focus. You Can Make it Happen rocks! I highly recommend this book!

4 out of 5 stars Practical nine-step.......2003-09-12

This book is very valuable and can be useful guideline to you if you still cannot find out your right direction in life. Stedman Graham??s nine-step could probably help you to find out because those nine steps are clear and easy to follow.

Stedman Graham successfully put abstract ideas (how to succeed) into concrete instructions (the 9-step) with examples. It lets us more easily to understand what to do and how to do in order to be a successful person. Also, those nine steps are really practical in the reality and suitable for everyone who want to be outstanding.

In this book, Stedman Graham likes encouraging us to ask ourselves questions. It is good because it helps us to make sure that we are in the right track and really moving forward to success. Besides, although Stedman Graham is an American and most examples are happened in America, his concepts are also applicable in Asian countries, such as china.

To sum up, I think it is worthwhile to spend some time to read this book and find out our own objective in life and then plan to achieve it.

                            Book Description

Debates rage about how, by whom, and to what extent cyberspace anonymity should be controlled. This volume aims to provide an insight into and an understanding of the concept of anonymity, and discusses technological developments and subsequently analyses anonymity from different angles. Areas covered include US and European court-sanctioned procedures to reveal identity, privacy interests, the right to anonymous speech, implications of the Council of Europe's Cybercrime Convention, European data protection and data retention provisions, consumer protection and the private law implications of anonymous transactions by means of the Internet.

1 out of 5 stars What anonymity? What law?.......2003-11-01

I just received a copy and haven't read it cover-to-cover yet. I have, however, thumbed through several sections and am sorely disappointed.

As an attorney, I find most egregious the lack of a case index (much less a statute index). Indeed, with the exception of Michael Froomkin's section, the book is largely devoid of cases and equally devoid of robust citation (whether in legal form, or otherwise).

The remailer section does not describe how deployed remailer systems work in an even remotely correct way. The authors seem to confuse several different concepts and place remailers on the wrong network layer, too. They seem to miss how remailers actually provide anonymity.

The onion routing section is equally vacuous, and would describe any of a half-dozen systems. The authors say "encrypt" when they mean "decrypt," and don't realize that stream-based protocols are handled with symmetric crypto. This is basic stuff. In addition, the only footnote to the onion routing section is a website, when there are plenty of published papers they could list instead. Also, why have the authors included mention of onion routers, without any mention of the vastly more interesting Freedom Network? For that matter, why did they spend a CHAPTER on JANUS as a "case study", but relegate Anonymizer to one third of a page and omit the Freedom Network entirely? Legal analysis of the Freedom Network is PRECISELY what I would expect to appear in a book titled "Digital Anonymity and the Law" and published in 2003.

The book's preface refers to the "US Patriot Act" rather than USA PATRIOT or other correct citation. This might be acceptable in other texts, but this is the first page of a legal publication!

On a whole, I'm not sure what the audience of this book is intended to be. It's certainly not attorneys practicing anonymity law!

I am considerably less interested in reading this book cover-to-cover now. I will write an updated review if I can slog through it.

                                Book Description

Promoting the process of science and the wonder of discovery, this text focuses more on concepts in biology and less on detailed information on biological procedures. Every chapter begins with Steps to Discovery vignettes which tell the story of how an investigation led to a scientific breakthrough, describing the people, ideas and thought processes involved. Using evolution as its theme the book includes critical thinking questions which encourage readers to become more science literate by applying their knowledge to other areas of biology and science.

This book is one of the standard university texts in physical geology, along with Understanding Earth by Frank Press et al. The book is well written and very well illustrated. The discription of plate tectonics and it's integration throughout the book is very well done. Like most such texts, it has the disadvantage of being written by lifelong academics with little or no contact with the extraxtive industries. Their treatment of energy extraction is superficial at best. One of the most important developments in geology over the past 30 years, that of sequence stratigraphy, does not even get a mention, perhaps because it came out of the oil exploration industry. (Understanding Earth does devote a paragraph or two to sequence stratigraphy.)

I confess that I did not buy a copy from Amazon. I picked mine up at a Border's Bookstore in London. The only difference in my copy and one bought in the US is a large graphic on the cover saying "Restricted: not for sale in North America". Why the restriction? Like many university textbooks, this one can be bought in overseas at a fraction of the US price. My undiscounted Border's London price was $59.19, a little more than half the US price. Quite remarkable, considering the current weakness of the US dollar to the UK pound.

                                5 out of 5 stars a very dynamic earth.......2006-01-25

Skinner, Porter and Park give you a richly illustrated introduction to geology. The text spans the breadth of modern geology, and shows an exciting and changing planet. There are numerous photos of examples of terrain, often accompanied by schematics to aid understanding. The latest techniques practised in geology are explained. Especially noteworthy is the extensive use of GPS. This has greatly aided recording the location of interesting geological samples.

Earthquakes are also well covered, and will probably be of interest to many readers, especially if you are in California. The history of the Richter and Mercalli scales is gone into. Unfortunately, predicting quakes is still very uncertain!

The discussion on earthquakes is also used as a good example of plate tectonics, where the latter is probably the central idea of geology.

This book is for all persons, students and others, who wish to learn geology with over 500 easy-to-read pages. The Earth is a giant machine, a machine that never stops. How the Earth-machine works is the story told in this book, and it is a fascinating story. The science that studies the Earth is geology, and those involved in the study are geologists. Physical processes are shaping the Earth now and have been shaping the Earth over the past 4.5 billion years.

It was an interesting book that I am going to use also after graduation. Even if I don't speak fluently English, the book was easy to understand. I had the book as recommended litterature in a Geology course. And after reading it I did pretty well on the exam.

                                    Book Description

The subject of this book are natural systems where thermodynamic processes take place as a result of changes in temperature, pressure and composition. The basic concepts are discussed on low level trying to preserve the mathematical rigor. Calculated examples using data from the mineralogical literature are given to elucidate the difficult and very abstract matter of thermodynamics. The book is aimed for students of geology, mineralogy, material science and all other interested readers who deal with solid matter.

Needed this text book for a college course I was taking. The description of this book didn't explain that it was just a book of figures that went along with the course text book. Also, by not having an image of this book, it is further confusing. Needs a better description and an image to help the buyer....
