Customer Reviews:
Excellent Haircolor Book for Beginners.......2006-07-19
I am a cosmetology educator and I use this book to help me teach my students. Excellent for cosmetology students or some one who has been out of the business and wants to brush up on coloring . A little to basic for advanced professionals.
Great book.......2005-12-07
By far the best book on hair coloring that I ever came across. Covers theory and formulating in depth. It has a lot of practical examples, explains many problem situations and remedies.
The only possible drawback is that this book frequently has to refer to your color manufacturer's documentation - and it is not so easy to find good technical product documentation that is level with the high quality of this book.
a reader from Georgia.......2004-04-27
This book is brilliantly written and researched. It can be read at all levels of background. I highly recommend it for the colorist that wants to be knowledgeable. I picked it up and couldn't put it down.
Boring !!.......2000-08-23
Not a very modern approach. Most of the ideas in this book would be appropriate for the 70's and 80's but not for today. The techniques used are all things any colorist should know coming out of beauty school.
Detailed, Fascinating.......2000-08-06
Excellent presentation of info for the professional hairdresser. Good for any level of expertise. How to of hair color and the WHY behind it. I loved the details...(for example, they explain WHY and HOW chlorine turns hair brittle and green, not just a boring statement of the fact that it does and some ways to reverse that.)
Nice photos, well laid out, a little pricey but LOTS cheaper than a class.

The book of comics.......2000-10-27
This book was great. I learned so much that I thought my head would explode. The Yellow kid is funny and I really enjoyed being able to see what the actual drawings looked like. I give it 5 stars.

Book Description
Will Eisners career spanned the entire history of comic booksfrom his formative days in the 1930s through the 1940s, when he revolutionized narrative sequential art with his internationally famed series THE SPIRIT, to the 1970s, when he created the contemporary graphic novel form with A Contract With God. THE WILL EISNER COMPANION is the first comprehensive overview of his work. Divided into two sectionshis Spirit work and his graphic novelsthis authorized companion features all-new critical and historical essays by noted comic book historians Chris Couch and Stephen Weiner, as well as alphabetical listings relating to all aspects and characters in his oeuvre. Also includes a chronology, a bibliography and suggested-reading lists.
Customer Reviews:
A good reference work for any Eisner fan.......2005-05-26
The book is very good but it isn't perfect. On the positive side it orgainizes and presents a pile of information in a lucid and straight forward manner. The sections on the Spirit are fairly comprehensive and I'm sure that I'm going to be using the A to Z listing for years to come. The section on Eisner's post-Spirit work does a nice job of informing old and new readers alike not only to content of the GN's but also to the wide variety of material that's available. However, there are a couple of things that come down on the negative side. Why was the typeface so small? For that matter why was the book so small to begin with? And I don't know about any one else but I found the index page to be so damn small that it was rendered useless. However, it still remains a usefull reference work for any Eisner fan.
A fitting tribute to the true King of Comics........2005-02-17
I purchased this book the night before Will Eisner passed away so this book was more meaningful when I read it.
This is the book to get if you like works written on comics creators. Why? If Will Eisner hadn't existed comics would be a very different medium today.
Graphic Novels might not exist, or might not be available for sale outside a comic shop if not for him.
Devices like the splash page might not have come to be if it were not for this man.
The list goes on and on and on for what Eisner did for the comic book medium.
This hardcover even contains a couple of his Spirit stories as well as many illustrations that show why this man was so revered.
They say that Jack Kirby was the King of Comics. If it wasn't for Eisner there might not have been the great Kirby comics of the '60s and '70s. If it wasn't for Eisner many classic sequential art stories might have been told differently.
If you like comics you owe it to yourself to pick up this book.

Basil is God.......2002-12-29
To me.
Wolverton's art is stretchy, sort of proto-Robert Crumb, and his use of language is nauseating. I love this man! I love this book! It's a bargain. GET IT!!!! Wolverton is to comics what Shakespeare is to the English language.
Customer Reviews:
There should be more books like this..........2006-10-04
The West Wing (TWW)is my favourite television series so I was delighted that this academic book had been written about it. For me (a newcomer to Political/Social/Culture theory) the book served as a nice introduction to these, as an interesting look at the role of/perception of the president in the US and as a pleasant reminder of some of the many excellent episode s of TWW.
The one thing that must be emphasised is that this is an academic book. Episodes are "texts" and the word 'reify' is used on (nearly) every page. If the words "mimetic verisimilitude" send you running for a dictionary you'll be fine as most of the book is much easier to read; if they terrify you perhaps this isn't a good choice; if you know roughly what they mean then it will be an easy read.
I am skeptical of some of the interpretation of the episodes - but generally am of this sort of work. I certainly don't think it is as clear cut as the authors suggest in many instances and other episodes frequently contradict or at least balance some of the observations. But it really is an excellent book which most WW fans or student of the many disciplines covered should buy (if only to learn about TWW).

Ghosts of the Southern Anduin.......2001-07-28
Low-to-mid level adventure module for Middle Earth Roleplaying (MERP). Module includes four good adventures that can be expanded by an experienced Gamemaster (GM). This module plays like a ghost story told around the campfire. Good book for beginning adventurers.

Customer Reviews:
Very useful, highly recommended!.......2005-05-30
This book is very useful and well written!
#1. It covers most of important things in architecture design in enterprise development.
#2. It is easy to read. Easy to understand. To the point and a efficient learning tool.
#3. It is very accurate. With picky eyes, I have not found any inaccuracies so far. (Technology advancement will make some comments out-of-date, but that would be another story).
#4. You do not have to use web service or remoting for this book to be greatly helpful.
#5. It appears that the author knows every corner of distributed system design to a great depth.
Last comment/advice to Microsoft - Microsoft should invest more on this kind of quality books if it wants drag more IT projects on .Net and to defeat the competing platforms.
I recommend this book to IT professionals. 5 stars of course.
Informative as well as suprisingly useful for 70-310.......2004-11-30
Having recently passed 70-310, I found this book to be exceedingly helpful in cementing certain .NET distributed concepts for the exam-- meanwhile, related MCAD/MCSD study guides like those from Sybex and Microsoft (?!) came up short...
Chapters 1-9 of this book provided clear explanations and working examples for 70% of the content I encountered on my recent exam, while topics covered equally well in Chapters 11-15 accounted for the remaining 30%. Even Windows Services can be found about mid-way through Chapter 7.
If you are keen on moving into distributed .NET programming and/or preparing for 70-310 (like me), I would highly recommend this book. I would not have earned my MCAD credential without it...
Good Microsoft N-tier Architecture Text.......2004-11-27
Solid information for those interested in building N-tier architectures in a Microsoft world. Great stuff on how to build business objects -- I haven't found much on Microsoft object caching except in this book. Sadly, MS hasn't gone as deep as JBoss, BroadVision or similar products but this book helps fill the gap.
Excelent Book for Planning a System.......2004-08-26
This book won't tell you every single thing about .Net Remoting, Web Services, Com+ or Message Queueing, but since it gives you a lot of info on all those techs and a lot of others it's the perfect book for people who plan on creating Distributed Applications.
I have read it full now and it helped me a LOT in my work. I work as an application developer at a bank and I'm supposed to do the company workflow system. It has to be very scalable so I needed to build a distributed architecture. This book helped me building this architecture and getting it approved by the board.
Great Book!
Great survey of distributed apps.......2004-07-05
The author has a real gift for explaining the details of the diverse technologies ms offers for creating distributed apps. An excellent book.
