A very good handbook on careers.......2000-12-04
A very good handbook when you live in a very uncertain world with no job tenure or job security. Anyone reading the book in the context of career management will find it useful as the sections are generally short and to the point. Also key points are 'bulleted' so it is easy to 'digest' them. The cycle of separating => redefining => positioning => sustaining is very lucidly explained and supported with short case stories. Many of us have to re-invent ourselves; this is a useful handy book to have for thriving in a world that will eventually be dominated by free agents. Even though the book is written for an American readership, it is equally applicable to anywhere on planet earth!
A true "how-to" book for career building.......1997-05-19
A well-written and logical exploration of the new workplace for both the "employee" & "employer". Defines roles and scenarios for "Free Agents" who shape their careers within one company as well as those who move from company to company. It goes well below the surface (and platitudes) of most self-help books to give real concepts and tools for developing your career and marketability, independent of a specific job or title. It also gives usable guidelines to employers on how to maximize the strengths of "Free Agents" to help grow the company. Case studies highlight the key elements
A pragmatic approach to succeeding in the new world of work........1997-04-10
Whether you are a contract or temporary employee, a consultant or freelancer, or working internally in management or on the front-line, FREE AGENTS is a wonderful gamebook for understanding the new world of work. It clearly explains the new rules of the workplace, and what individuals need to do to succeed, adn what organizatitions need to do to attract the individuals that will enable them to succeed.
FREE AGENTS presents a clear and accessible four step process for individuals to become FREE AGENTS. It provides strategies and tips for individuals to answer four critical questions:
What is the market that I want to serve?
What are the unmet needs of this market?
What are the assets I bring that can meet these need?
How can I continue to acquire new skills, experiences, and relationships that enable me to sustain my employability in that market?
This book helped me understand how I need to change my attitudes and actions to create and sustain my own employability. It also helped me see what companies are doing to attract individuals with the skills they need to succeed.

Customer Reviews:
The market doesn't care if you are a beginner.......2005-08-08
This book is pretty basic and as a beginner you are going to have to learn more focused trading strategies and not just a generalistic overview of what day trading is or should be.
Day trading is all about making buy and sell decisions. When you make a trade either your going to lose money or your going to make money, and some other times you will break even. When you win some body else will lose and so forth, but that's NOT what's important.
The most important aspect of day trading is the knowledge FILTER you employ to make your buy and selling decisions. There are many "fantastic" trading strategies outhere, but you need to test them in order to discover which ones help you the most. That's part of your homework as a daytrader. Test, test and test again.
Complicated strategies that rely on a "boat load" of technical indicators can make you slow, and being slow in this game can be as dangerous as not knowing what to do in the first place.
I think the worst thing that can happen to a beginner trader is to get information overload. It's better to go step by step, and test a simple strategy that can show you how to focus on concrete ways to make money.
Fortunatly there are some good sites on the web today that can show you how to trade in a practical and effective way. One of those sites is Stress Free Traders ( StressFreeTraders com)
In the end, day trading is all about buying and selling according to your knowledge FILTER. Once you master and follow youre proven filter parameters like a clock, you can expect to start making serious amounts of cash on a consistent basis.
Misha never traded, so what does he know?.......2002-10-27
Having as much experience in trading, I along with thousands of others could have written this book. It's cliche and dated. I am actually quite surprised since this guy has never really day-traded. After getting this book, the one thing Sarkovich taught me is how to write a book about something one does not know anything about. I actually cannot believe all the Stars people give!! Are you all high?!? Its mind boggling? Are you guys for real?... Actually, $3 prices in the used section should tell you something?... For anyone interested in technical analysis, get Murphy's technical analysis of Stocks and commodities or Reminiscence of a stock market operator by Jesse Livermore. Get a Van Tharp book for money management and be patient. Day-trading is tough, and most people can handle other types of trading but not day-trading. And really the only way to learn is to find a mentor like Pristine, a close friend or some trading shop. I wonder if there are a lot of shops around anymore. Misha's is not, not that he would ever trade there, since he is not a trader. ;-)
Nothing but fluff.......2002-10-27
OK, if you want to read something that gives outline view of what Day Trading is about, go ahead and buy this book. If your looking to build a foundation for a successful career in trading, move on. Not only is this book a warmed up re-hash of material covered in dozens of other books, the information is really dated. I suppose that if we could roll the clock back to 1999, you could read this book, start trading and you'd probably feel pretty talented. But in reality, all you needed to know in 1999 was 3 or 4 steps.
1) Pick a stock,
2) Buy the stock
3) Sell it after it goes up.
4) Repeat steps 1 through 3.
Nothing is easy!!.......2002-01-11
This book is ok if you are a new INVESTOR who wants to use Electronic Trading to buy stocks. If you are planning on being an active trader, or a day trader, skip this book. It is just basic order entry, system and level II quote information.
As for the Made Easy part, investing and trading are not easy. If they could be made easy no one would sell you a book.
So you wanna get rich...........2001-06-28
Sure, I would love to beat the market all the time....NOT POSSIBLE....maybe a little? Don't expect to read one book and be an expert. This requires many books{ maybe 30-40] + years of experience [read lots of mistakes]. I would give the book a higher rating but I don't think day trading is EASY at all...the title is very misleading. If you've taken your lumps in this bear market of 2000-2001, you know what I mean. If you're a bear, well finally you're time has come. I've been waiting for this bear since 1992! Good luck!

Book Description
The book provides a synthesis of the methods used in microfacies analysis, the potential of microfacies in evaluating depositional environments and diagenetic history, and the application of microfacies data in the study of carbonate hydrocarbon reservoirs and the provenance of archaeological materials. The first part of the book (Microfacies Analysis) deals with field and laboratory methods; the description and significance of microfacies data; quantitative microfacies analysis; diagenetic processes and diagenetic products; common textural limestone classifications and specific classifications for reef limestones, non-marine carbonates, recrystallized limestones and mixed carbonate-siliciclastic rocks; biological controls of carbonate sedimentation; and fossils in thin section. The second part (Microfacies Interpretation) is focused on the methods of making of microfacies types; diagonsotic criteria of palaeoenvironmental conditons and processes; the importance of integrated facies analysis including mineralogical and geochemical data; the definition of depositional facies models, facies zones and standard microfacies types, and the recognition of depositional constraints influencing cyclic carbonates, reef limestones, cold-water carbonates, vent and seep carbonates and mixed carbonate-siliciclastic rocks. The last chapter deals with secular variations of facies features. The third part of the book (Practical Use of Microfacies) underlines the facies controls of reservoir and host rocks, the importance of microfacies and diagenesis for understanding technological properties of carbonate rocks and the destruction and conservation of carbonate objects, and discusses the potential of microfacies for archaeometrical studies. Nearly 230 instructive plates (30 in color)showing thin-section photographs with detailed explanations form a central part of the content.

Fundamental.......2006-03-16
An updated and complete guide in carbonate petrography for students and geologists. Fundamental base in carbonate interpretation with fantastic photos, descriptions and references. Well structured writing and presentation. Not to be missed!
Must Have for the Carbonate Sedimentologist.......2005-04-12
In the past thirty years, there have been quite a few books on sedimentology. My impression has been that the books covering or specializing in siliciclastic sedimentology have overshadowed those dealing with carbonates, both in volume and in useful content. There have been exceptions. The texts by James Lee Wilson (Carbonate Facies in Geologic History) and Robin Bathurst (Carbonate Sediments and Their Diagenesis) stand out as being particularly important and are considered "classics" in the field of carbonate sedimentology. The release of the new book by Eric Flugel has added a third volume to the trilogy. At nearly 1,000 pages, Microfacies of Carbonate Rocks... is literally a massive tome, well published and well edited, a true compendium of up-to-date knowledge of all things carbonate including an expansion and illustration of Flugel's own modification of earlier carbonate rock classification schemes by Folk and Dunham. Photographic illustrations are a mixture of colour and black-and-white with the majority in the latter format. No matter, the photos are superb! Colour may appear sparingly but when it does, it is always used to illustrate an important point or topic; likewise for the black-and-whites. One might expect the accompanying text to lag since the illustrations are so voluminous and well done. Not so. The text is equally voluminous, and more importantly, the text is well written, well documented, well illustrated, and supported by reference to photomicrographs and other figures. This book is the ideal reference work but has yet to make it to a place on my bookshelf because, upon arrival, it was immediately pressed into service by a graduate student of mine, helping him sort out several puzzling features in his thesis thin sections. Flugel's book is designed to be used and it will be. I intend to read the whole thing from cover to cover . . . when I can borrow it back from my grad student.
Book Description
Co-authors Morrison and Owen are leading researchers in planetary astronomy today, and this book reflects their expertise and excitement for the subject. Drawing on recent findings, this authoritative, up-to-date book gives a straightforward account of our solar system. Written in an informal style with minimal use of mathematics, this book is ideal for beginning non-science readers. Since publication of the previous edition of The Planetary System, the pace of planetary exploration and new discoveries has accelerated. Also, the new multidisciplinary field of astrobiology has emerged and now provides a fruitful perspective for the study of the origin, evolution, and distribution of life within our solar system and other planetary systems. As scientists who have participated in the definition and development of astrobiology, Morrison and Owen have integrated these new perspectives, as well as many other discoveries, into this new edition to make it once again undisputedly the most authoritative, up-to-date, and exciting planetary book available. For anyone interested in astronomy or planetary astronomy.
Customer Reviews:
Stars and Galaxies and Nebula, oh my!.......2003-11-13
I bought The Planetary System for an Astronomy class and enjoyed the text immensely. I think Morrison and Owen should have added a few more explanations of events/heavenly bodies in a few places but overall this is a great book for introducing astronomy and definitely kept my interest! The cdrom that comes with the book "Voyager Skygazer" turned out to be fabulous fun although a little distracting when I discovered that I was able to track satellite orbits as well as the night sky events with its help.
Unbelievably boring.......2001-10-11
This book is very clear, but it is quite boring. I have to read it for an astronomy class and the hundred dollars I spent on it has been wasted. All the concepts are very clearly explained through pictures, examples from real life and diagrams, but this textbook still sucks nonetheless. IF you know that you have to purchase this textbook for a class, pray the class isnt as dull as the reading

Acceptable.......2006-05-13
This brief series of selections from the first part of Quijote is probably an adequate text for those who have only recently started reading Spanish and are bent on reading Cervantes in something approaching the original as quickly as possible.
However, the author never makes clear what principles he has followed in modifying the language in order to make it more accessible to "intermediate" students. Sometimes, a word is changed; sometimes, an entire passage has been paraphrased; sometimes, large parts have been left out altogether.
Cervantes orginal language is surprisingly comprehensible to the modern student; clarity is one the many signs of his genius. This very accessibility is a bit of a drawback; "intermediate" students are still presumably trying to get their Spanish in working order, and Cervantes may taint their language in the way Quijote's own "feridas" and other archaic lingo tainted his.
I'd recommend that readers hold out a bit longer, then use a well-annotated Quijote intended for native speakers, such as Riquer's or Rico's.
"Don Quijote's disgrace is not his fantasy, but Sancho Panza".......2005-07-27
This bold statement of Franz Kafka resumes the true essence of the meaning of this surprising, captivating and still engaging book through the years.
This was precisely the year in which we are just celebrating the 400 th anniversary of the first edition of this first order level work.
The Spanish writer Pio Baroja affirmed once: "Don Quijote is like love; when it recovers the judge is because it's just dying".
The tribulations, mental disorders and the fuzzy logic that inspires his controversial actions are far beyond the simple and cold cerebral analysis: you must be in anagogic level; the fourth level of the consciuous according Goethe, in which the coordinates of the pure reason simply vanish and the doors of perception open before our mind. It a stargate (to employ Roland Emerich's film) , where the presence of a simple woman becomes to him in his muse: Dulcinea del Toboso and his reason for live.
Sancho Panza will be his link with the real world, his counter weight living: Eros and Psique's myth once more reborns.
Rivers of ink have been employed to describe the outrageous behavior of Don Alonso Quijano who tired of being himself (after reading countless adventures never lived by himself) decided to leap the twilight zone and from being a simple spectator transforming himself in actor -for better or worst- to change the world in his epic attitude.
I just want to add you must read this book at least four times in your life, because as a true masterpiece, its meaning changes according your values, interest, maturity and mental growth.
"It's a great pitty the nuts don't have the right to talk about sensately about the madness of the sanity persons"
William Shakespeare
Aventuras de don quijote.......2001-04-09
Response to the self proclaimed reviewer of "Aventuras" The self appointed reviewer from Nebraska with a negative about " Aventuras" shows that he doesn't understand the teaching of "Don Quijote". I would like to know his qualifications! In order to expedite instruction and convey meaning, one has to explain rapidly all intrincancies of DQ. In order to do so, the editor has explained, in the quickest manner (English), cultural context, abstract concepts, and references in order to keep the integrity of the reading of such a treasure short (like every page and a half (sic.) The author of this edition was awarded the "Encomienda con Placa en la Orden de Alfonso X el Sabio" by His Majesty King Juan Carlos in 1995. That is the highest recognition Spain awards for works of this quality.
A tragic gutting of a great story........1999-02-13
This is a servicable abridgement, easy to read and an okay place to start for non-native speakers of Spanish, in their second or third year of study. However, the editor sees fit to interrupt the narrative every page and a half with notes in English. The most galling aspect is the study questions in Spanish after each chapter, which ask about information introduced in the English language notes. Keep looking for a good edition, this isn't it.
Excellent Spanish language edition for intermediate students.......1998-06-28
Marcel C. Andrade does a wonderful job presenting a Spanish language edition of Part I of Don Quijote for intermediate level students of the Spanish language. Unusual vocabulary is listed next to the text in the margin; and the explanatory notes give historical and literary background that bring the text to life. This is the best place to start for English-speaking students of the Spanish language who are approaching the original Spanish text of Don Quijote for the first time.
