Book Description
This excellent new book teaches users the concepts and applications of today's foreign and domestic automotive electric and computer control systems. Each concept chapter is followed by an application chapter, to help readers apply and learn more easily. Sequence photos, illustrations and explanations cover all the common trouble-shooting and repair procedures needed for ASE certification. All the latest technologies used in fuel, ignition, emissions, transmission, body and chassis control systems are covered. This is a great life long reference and costs less than having to buy separate concepts and procedures manuals, too.

Its good couse the information enough for beginner and intermediate in mechanic world. Thanks
Auto Electronics and Technology.......2006-07-30
I purchased this book for my husband. I did so thinking it was trhe actual text book, but it turned out to be the study guide for the text book! I was not pleased when I recieved the book. NO WHERE on the ad for the book did it stsate it was a study guide. I didn't return it because he can use it for the class he will be taking. But, I still am not happy I was mislead.
This will not stop me from buying books from Amazon, I have bought some since then, I just want you to be aware of the misleading ad.
Excellent Technical Reference.......2001-09-05
For those of you who are looking for more than the typical Automotive Magazine information regarding automotive electronics – this book is a GOLDMINE. It is the best technical reference I have ever seen and the information is accurate. The author James E. Duffy knows more about modern automotive electronics than anyone else that I have found does. This book impressed me so much (after I had borrowed a copy) I searched it out on the net to purchase my own copy. Mr. Duffy covers the electrical systems in depth, all the ins and outs of computer control in the Big Three plus more. What interested me the most of the practical hands on approach to testing sensors and the specs of devices used. Want to know they typical outputs of Oxygen Sensors so you can test them with a handheld digital meter rather than buy some $$$ outdated tester? This is the book for you. Another example – one concise page covers pulling the trouble codes from GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles. The garage charged my son $$$ to pull the codes on his Neon and said the results were inconclusive. I was able to pull the codes using the steps in this book and trace it to the EGR Solenoid. Starters, alternators, injection, it is all here in one book, you can throw away all the Fix- It books sold in auto parts stores which have maybe one chapter at the back covering eight model years of changes on three pages. I don’t think you will find anything better than this book. Good Luck.
Duffy electrical handbook.......2000-03-11
I felt the book was outdated. Much of the content seems to be from much earlier editions and not relevant for todays more sophisticated automotive electronics. It would be more suited for an enrty level mechanic. The preview for the book is somewhat misleading, makes you feel it offers more than it really does. Therefore it did not meet my needs and I am returning it.

Book Description
When Brian Basset first created his strip, Adam, it had a Mr. Mom theme running through it. It was unusual at the time for a man to stay home while his wife played the corporate games-even if he was working-and Basset used the situation to its fullest comic potential. These days, however, home-based offices are increasingly common, and Basset finds he was merely leading a trend. That's one reason the creator of this charming cartoon changed the name of his strip last year to Adam@home. In this sixth collection, the one-time Mr. Mom focuses on a whole host of compatriots who hang out at the local coffee cafÂ,, log in remotely, and compare work-at-home notes. In CafÂ, Adam, an all-new Adam@home collection, Basset mines the laughs in all sorts of home-office and coffee-house-based dramas, including keeping in good standing with the local barista (no jokes about the nose ring), dealing with client complaints by handing over the phone to a screaming infant son, and helping out his kids' class at school. He also revels in the little things, from changes the nearby Kopyko made for workers like himself to being able to attend an office Christmas party, even if it's virtual.Through it all, Adam's wife, Laura, who still has to show up for her job at a local bookstore, and his kids, Katy, Clayton, and Nick, help the Newman household retain its balance. An engaging family, the Newmans have become an essential source of amusement for Basset's countless fans.

Book Description
"A signal contribution to the 'culture wars,' Dubin dispassionately examines the contemporary American museum as a battleground for the control of expression where elitist and populist camps clash over politically sensitive art. . . . His provocative study gives voice to curators and partisans on all points of the spectrum, making his book something of a lively free-for-all. . . . Cogently demonstrates that modern museums are crucibles for change rather than pleasant refuges, and that they are expanding the public's awareness that we live in an increasingly multicultural society and a multinational world."
--Publishers Weekly
"A lively and insightful new book. . . . Using an evenhanded journalistic approach and remarkably revealing interviews, Dubin documents how the institutions, run by idealistic and politically naive curators and exploited by conservative opponents, were marred by allowing minor conflicts to blow up into front-page stories. . . . Show[s] that while museum may be adept at producing spectacular displays of propaganda, they are often incapable of predicting the reactions of their audiences."
--Artforum
"Displays of Power is contentious, irreverent, and entertaining, but it is also absolutely serious. . . . Is the book useful or intimidating? Is it a cautionary tale or a diatribe against museum complacency? I believe that it is all of these things. . . . A cautionary tale told boisterously and wittily."
--Museum News
"Reveals how demands for accountability to various interest groups frequently lead to censorship [and] a retreat from shows that deal with complex social questions."
--Art in America
Museums have become ground zero in America's culture wars. Whereas fierce public debates once centered on provocative work by upstart artists, the scrutiny has now expanded to mainstream cultural institutions and the ideas they present. In
Displays of Power, Steven Dubin, whose Arresting Images was deemed "masterly" by the New York Times, examines the most controversial exhibitions of the 1990s. These include shows about ethnicity, slavery, Freud, the Old West, and the dropping of the atomic bomb by the Enola Gay. This new edition also includes a preface by the author detailing the recent Sensation! controversy at the Brooklyn Museum.
Displays of Power draws directly upon interviews with many key combatants: museum administrators, community activists, curators, and scholars. It authoritatively analyzes these episodes of America struggling to redefine itself in the late 20th century.
With a new preface by the author.
Customer Reviews:
Good book, but slightly repetitive.......2006-11-10
It is a good book to look at controversy during exhibitions, but from what i've read, it is slightly repetitive. They different exhibitions all have their detractors and it starts to wear on you when you end up discussing the same topics for each exhibition. (I am using this in a classroom setting) It is excellently written, though, clear and to the point, though at times the stories themselves are so convoluted that it gets confusing.
If you are a curator, or looking into curating as a profession, I would recommend this book, just to see some of the problems that can arise.

Book Description
From tabloid exposes of child prostitution to the grisly tales of Jack the Ripper, narratives of sexual danger pulsated through Victorian London. Expertly blending social history and cultural criticism, Judith Walkowitz shows how these narratives reveal the complex dramas of power, politics, and sexuality that were being played out in late nineteenth-century Britain, and how they influenced the language of politics, journalism, and fiction.
Victorian London was a world where long-standing traditions of class and gender were challenged by a range of public spectacles, mass media scandals, new commercial spaces, and a proliferation of new sexual categories and identities. In the midst of this changing culture, women of many classes challenged the traditional privileges of elite males and
asserted their presence in the public domain.
An important catalyst in this conflict, argues Walkowitz, was W. T. Stead's widely read 1885 article about child prostitution. Capitalizing on the uproar caused by the piece and the volatile political climate of the time, women spoke of sexual danger, articulating their own grievances against men, inserting themselves into the public discussion of sex to an unprecedented extent, and gaining new entree to public spaces and journalistic practices. The ultimate manifestation of class anxiety and gender antagonism came in 1888 with the tabloid tales of Jack the Ripper. In between, there were quotidien stories of sexual possibility and urban adventure, and Walkowitz examines them all, showing how women were not simply figures in the imaginary landscape of male spectators, but also central actors in the stories of metropolotin life that reverberated in courtrooms, learned journals, drawing rooms, street corners, and in the letters columns of the daily press.
A model of cultural history, this ambitious book will stimulate and enlighten readers across a broad range of interests.
Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite plasure-reading books..........2005-03-05
I really enjoyed reading this spectacularly written book.
Sexual Danger.......2002-01-05
This is primarily a history of gender. And armed with the theme of sexual danger, Walkowitz is able to explore not just late-Victorian women, but late-Victorian relationships between men and women.
Walkowitz begins with the urban strollers of the 1880's, the flaneurs. Prior to this period, the primary urban female found in London is the prostitute. Following commercial development in late-Victorian London there is an influx of "shopping ladies" and the "working women" who serve them in "the new feminized world of department stores." (p.24)
Next, Walkowitz discusses the findings of Charles Booth's study of London poverty. Significant is the area of London known as Whitechapel where gender roles were somewhat reversed.
In chapter 2, Walkowitz further explores the characters inhabiting the urban terrain of London. There are "gents" or "swells", women in music halls(both performing and in the audience), shopping ladies, charity workers, and the Glorified Spinsters. These "actors" were constantly exploring new boundaries while re-inventing their roles.
In the chapter "Science and Seance", Walkowitz gives us the tale of Mrs. Weldon who makes the great leap from being nearly committed(falsely) to a lunatic asylum, to becoming a fixure on Pears Soap advertisements. Certainly, Mrs. Weldon's role reversal was socially significant, and due to her "succesful negotiation of urban spaces and cultural styles" and "her willingnes to make a spectacle of herself and to allow her image to be refashioned, circulated, and ultimately discarded by a fickle marketplace." (p.189)
The significance of Jack the Ripper is the effect the murders had on men as well as women, including boys and girls. The Ripper's legacy is the crystallization of "sexual fears and hostilities" and the creation of a "common vocabulary of male violence against women." (pp.227-228)
These gender roles all represent the theme of sexual danger because they are changing. Roles are being reversed or re-invented. Barriers, whether physical or social, are being probed.
Unusual but excellent history of gender and violence.......2001-12-06
Judith Walkowitz delivers a very engaging history of gender violence, prostitution, and good old Jack the Ripper. Her style is more reminiscent of a novel or short story collection than an academic history, and that works in the narrative's favor. One finds it very easy to go along with her argument, even though it does have some holes in it. The style she adopts makes it easy for her to squeeze events into her hypothesis, and it sometimes feels forced, especially in her repeated attempts to relate everything to "melodrama." The book is well researched, which is most obvious in her discussion of the men and women's club and Georgina Weldon's struggle against the male establishment. Overall, a feminist history that never becomes militant, and a piece of academic work that is accessible to a wider audience than merely women's studies faculty members across the U.S.
Fabulous blend of Foucauldian theory and empiricist history.......1998-02-27
Walkowitz masterfully unravels the mysteries of Foucault's periodization of the proliferation of gender discources. Backed by solid empirical evidence, we see competing discourses on gender, class, and race evolve as different groups fight to stake out access to discursive power. Read Foucault, then read this, for an epiphanous moment that unlocks the mysteries of technologies of power!
A necessity for anyone interested in the era........1995-11-16
This book was critical for me as I wrote a term paper. A wide range of subjects is covered, and each numerous topics of interest are addressed. The text is easy to read- not trivial of negligible, but accessable to almost everyone

News of the appearance of the plague in the house of Costobarus traveled fast after the death of the gardener, who had fallen in the open and in sight of the watchful inhabitants of Ascalon. So by the time the house servants of the merchant were made aware of their peril by the death of one of their own number, Philip of Tyre with the courage of affection and loyalty stood on the threshold of the guest-chamber informed of the situation and prepared to help. Hannah, supported by the Tyrian's assurance of her rescue and protection, succeeded in urging Costobarus and Laodice not to delay for her to the peril of the thrice precious daughter.
So with his house yet ringing with the first convulsion of terror Costobarus ordered his party with all haste to the camels.
Keturah, Laodice's handmaiden, had fainted with terror and was carried parcel-wise over the great arm of Momus, the mute, out into the street and deposited summarily on the floor of Laodice's bamboo howdah. The camel-driver, Hiram, seemed only a little less stupefied than she. The mute, with a face as determined and threatening as an uplifted gad, drove him from the shelter of a dark corner out to his place on the neck of his master's camel. Aquila, the emissary, showed the immemorial composure in the face of disaster that was the badge of the Roman in the days of the degenerate Cæsars, and, mounting his horse when the rest of the party were in their places, headed the procession toward the northeast.
From an upper window behind a lattice, Hannah cried her farewells and fluttered her scarf. She was smiling the drawn, white smile of a mother who is forcing herself to be cheerful in the face of danger, for the peace of those she loves. Laodice understood the tender deception and when a sharp turn of the street cut off the sight of the plumy trees of the garden, she covered her face and wept inconsolably.
On either side of the passage there came muffled sounds from houses; out of open alleys leading into interior courts stole the fetor of death that even the spice of burning unguents could not smother. The whole air shuddered with the drumming of heathen physicians in the pagan quarters, through which the silence of long stretches of ominously quiet houses shouted its meaning. At times frantic barefoot flights could be glimpsed as households deserted stricken houses, but whatever outcry arose came from bedsides. Ascalon fled as a frightened animal flees, silently and under cover.

Not perfect, but still a great study tool.......2006-04-18
Before you do anything, make sure you are looking at the 2nd Edition of this book. If the top of the book does not say "Updated For Windows Server 2003 R2", then this review will probably not be helpful.
I should probably tell a little about my background. I earned an A.A.S. in Computer and Information Science early in 2005 and I have spent the last year working as a junior administrator for a small company. We have a mix of Windows XP clients and Windows 2000 servers. In addition to passing this test this morning and the Windows XP in March, I also have a couple of CompTIA certifications.
I found the book to be an excellent study tool. They chapters do a pretty good job of explaining all of the topics. The practice tests were pretty good as well. Some of the questions were a little too simple while others were very similiar to what was on the real exam.
I gave the book 4 stars because while I couldn't have passed the test without it, there were topics on the test that were not covered in the book. There was also a question on one of the included practice exams that was programmed incorrectly; it marked the correct answer as wrong. I would recommend to anyone about to take to test to use this book as a guide, but I would also set up a test server and do the exercises on a real machine. That's really the only way you can practice for the simulation questions.
Another good one from Sybex.......2006-04-03
This book is a very good guide if you are looking to take the 70-290 exam. The topics covered align with what is covered on the exam but as always, you should use several sources when preparing for an exam.
A great book, but you will need more references to pass the exam.......2005-07-06
Sybex books are usually my favourite books for the exam.
The book is easy to understand and to read. It contains useful tips and tries to cover most of the topics required.
For this exam, my favourite book is the Syngress book, but after that it is the Sybex book. This book is the best book for the SUS chapter. It has great information for IIS, terminal services and printers.
Unfortunately the questions included are different than the exam.
I recommend to use practice tests like transcender or boson.
It is a really hard exam, if you want to learn and not to pass the exam, this book is recommended.
I recommend this book for beginners and as a reference book.
Experienced users will find some important tips on the book.
I have read better.......2005-07-02
Like what was stated earlier, I am an experienced windows system administrator w/ MCP status and this book leaves out some details. I like sybex but this one looks like it might have been rushed. I dont particularly care for the sybex CD's also. The questions were to easy for the actual Microsoft exams. Plus the chapter about optimizing Server 2003 left out some noticable details in how to optimize the page file. Its good for beginners but if you really want to know more and better prepare for this exam, read another book.
Pretty good.......2004-12-03
Passed this morning. All the topics in this book were covered in the 70-290 exam, or vice versa. The book content is good, the chapter tests are pretty good but the 2 bonus Testsims are another story. If you can get through these test sims without banging your head on your desk or pulling out your hair you are a better person than I am.
...So read the book, take some online sample tests, get the Minasi 2003 book and study hard, you should be all set.
