Book Description

If you're afraid that saying "no" will cause a backlash with friends, family, or colleagues, you'll be pleasantly surprised to learn that "no" can be a productive answer, and can put you in control of any situation -- without turning you into a meanie. No! turns the word into a tool for personal power, and gives you new ways to help discussions and decisions move forward. This enlightening guide reveals how "no" can help you protect your time, money, family, and more. And it demonstrates that "no" is a legitimate word that doesn't always need to be negotiated to "yes". Practical and entertaining, No! features:* tools for better decision making * definitions of six "say-no" personalities * skill-building exercises * more than 40 strategies for sticking to no after you've said it * the Power of No survey, decision-making model and Decision Priority GridYou'll also learn how to tailor your no's to different environments, use humor to diffuse tense situations, and anticipate the consequences and implications of your decisions.

Make your boss happy by saying No!.......2005-10-04
It seems like a contradiction, 'tell your boss no and get ahead in life', but that's the advice Kemp offers. Kemp is really saying 'be honest' and 'look past your nose and see the implications of your choices'. The fastest and most elegant way to do so often involves being a master of `NO!'
The book is full of exercises, which inventory your moods and habits. There are three personality types: 'Masters of NO', 'Wafflers' (putting off a NO) and 'yes-ters' (at best an 'always helpful' type). By reading the book, you can be a Master of NO!
More could have been done to review the motivations of the always-helpful types. Additionally, several genetically based instincts encourage many to be 'helpful' as a matter of course. These 'helpful' instincts provide con-men with a good living. There isn't anything provided on these subjects.
Insightful!.......2005-05-10
This book benefits those who face exhaustion from overwork, stress and overuse of the word 'yes' - and that includes almost everyone. No matter what level of employment or management you are in, where you work or what your responsibilities are, most people have a natural propensity to say 'yes' far too often. Jana Kemp's book will help if you sometimes say 'yes' when you don't want to, or even when you are not fully capable of committing to and delivering on the promise you are making. She offers tools and advice for timely, sound decision-making. Even though the book's self-assessment mechanisms, introspective exercises and checklists can get a bit repetitive, reinforcement is the best way to change your automatic responses. The habit of overcommitting can harm your relationships and your physical and mental health, including your stress level. Kemp finds that people want to please others so much that they overcommit in every venue of their lives. We say 'Yes!' to this book for anyone who needs to learn how to become comfortable saying 'no' and how to do so in a direct, gracious manner that refuses the request without rejecting the person. (By the way, if you don't need to learn this skill, you can always just say 'No!')
Worth the read.......2005-04-17
Intrigued by the title of Kemp's book, I purchased a copy for myself and a few colleagues after a particularly hectic work week. To be honest, I was not sure if there would be any value in reading a book about how to say "no." To my surprise the book was as much about saying "yes" as saying "no." Its value is in helping you learn about yourself, your values, and situations such that you recognize when saying "yes" and when saying "no" makes sense for you.
The book includes situational stories and questions that help you contextualize the concepts presented. There are hundreds of examples of how to say "no" for those who sometimes are at a loss for how to do so. Each chapter has a theme and suggestions that build on each other through the book.
I think most who read this book will find the message and its delivery worth it. I certainly did. After reading this book you will have a better understanding of when, why, and how you will want to say "no."
This book is a MUST READ, particularly if you are very busy.......2005-03-29
As the President of BoldApproach.com, a business acceleration strategy and marketing firm, it seemed a little counter intuitive to read a book about saying no since my whole job is based around getting people to say yes. But I dove in and boy am I glad I did.
No is one of those books that you simply must read. It isn't a book about assertiveness or any of the other things you've read, but a powerful book about taking and maintaining control of your life personally and professionally.
Ask yourself these questions:
Do you say yes when you really want to say no?
Do you ever feel bad when you say no?
Do accept invitations to be on boards and committees even when you are already wildly over committed?
Do you wish there was a way to say no without hurting people's feelings?
Have you ever wondered how and when to fire a customer?
If you answered yes to even one of those questions, then there are literally dozen's of other situations that this book will help you overcome with efficiency.
I highly recommend this book.
It's time to take back your life!.......2005-03-28
This is a no-nonsense "how to manual" on how to hold on to those hours you are losing to other people because you don't know how to say "no". We all do it. "Yes, I'll start on this project in the morning.", and what you want to say is, "I already have more projects than I can handle! Hand this one off to someone else." Or, you say, "Sure I'll watch your son this afternoon." What you really want to say is, "I've got too much on my plate already, how about asking someone else?" Those are lost hours.
As an HR professional, "yes" seemed all I could say...until I started reading, and working through the exercises offered in this book. I've learned to say "no", my clients are still with me, and I have more time to provide them better service!
Time. The one thing we can't replenish... This book helps us get back our lives.
Go ahead, pick up the book, open it to any page, and you'll understand how useful a tool it is. Then purchase it and start on the road to having more time for...yourself!

Disappointed.......2007-01-04
This book has lots of tips, however, it is a disappointment. I have been practicing many of these tips for a long time, so there's not much that is new. Some tips are repeated, some are common sense and others are not practical. I bought this book used and feel I still spent too much, definitely not worth $12.95.
great book!.......2006-12-17
I love all of Mary Hunt's stuff. This book is nice to have as a reference around the house for a bunch of things you have to deal with on an everday basis. Get it, you'll like it. I also recommend any of her other books. I'm glad she brings God into her everyday life and her financial advice, also.
doesn't live up to the hype.......2006-11-13
I was hoping for so much more. There are a few good tips in here, but not enough. I was disappointed.
Nothing new.......2005-10-16
There really aren't any earth shattering ideas. Most are common sense or you can find them elsewhere. Also, tips seem to be repeated and right next to each other. There will be two ways to clean glass and they're only slightly different. It'd be nice to have it consolidated and an index
Everyday Cheapskate's Greatest Tips.......2005-08-24
I love how pratical this book is. It's a fast read with a lot of useful tips that I can use right now. (Lord knows I need help).

What a valuable book. Read it cover-to-cover yesterday morning -- called my credit card companies in the afternoon and trust me -- I saved far more than the cost of the book ... including shipping! This book should be required reading for anyone who has credit debt. In fact, I think it should be added to all high school and college curriculums. Excellent purchase plus turned me on to the companion website ...
Taking the stress out of learning about credit!.......2002-08-22
"I have enjoyed reading it! What I like about "How to be more Credit Card and Debt Smart" is the way it is written is like having a conversation with a friend. Picture it like this, instead of two people but a person and the book sitting at a table with a nice warm mug of Starbucks (that I brewed of
course) and learning about credit issues in a relaxing and easy to remember format."

Customer Reviews:
You can't always judge a book by it's tital.......2000-02-16
Get Out Of Debt, with a tital like that I expected information to help me 'get out of debt'. There is one short chapter that deals directly with this subject 'Five Easy Ways to Get Out of Debt' which is not enough. All through the book they refer to their website for further information, but all of this info costs you. The rest of the book deals with basic financial management, which is good. But for real, useful information on getting out of debt, I recomend you go to The National Foundation for Consumer Credit or The Federal Trade Commission. These are true 'Not for Profit' organizations.
The Best Book I Ever Bought.......1999-10-23
I'm so glad I bought this book. It's packed with information that I needed to deal with my debts. Once I got the book it felt like a huge weight had been lifted from by back. For the first time in a long time I can finally sleep through the night. Next time a friend tells me they are having money problems, I'm going to buy them this book as a gift.

Book Description
Biomedical research will be revolutionised by the current efforts to sequence the human genome and the genomes of model organisms. Of the newly sequenced genes, 50% code for proteins of unknown functions, while as little as 5% of sequences in mammalian genomes code for proteins. New, genome-wide approaches are needed to draw together the knowledge that is emerging simultaneously in a number of fields of genome research.
This volume is a high-level survey of the newly emerging concepts of structural biology and functional genomics for biologists, biochemists and medical researchers interested in genome research. Topics included are chromosome and chromatin organisation, novel DNA and RNA structures, DNA flexibility, supercoiling, prediction of protein functions, strategies for large scale structural analysis, and computer modelling.

Book Description
Based on courses given at the universities of Texas in Austin, and California in San Diego, this book treats an active fields of research that touches upon the foundations of physics and chemistry. It presents, in as simple a manner as possible, the basic mechanisms that determine the dynamical evolution of both classical and quantum systems in sufficient generality to include quantum phenomena. The book begins with a discussion of Noether's theorem, integrability, KAM theory, and a definition of chaotic behavior; it continues with a detailed discussion of area-preserving maps, integrable quantum systems, spectral properties, path integrals, and periodically driven systems; and it concludes by showing how to apply the ideas to stochastic systems. The presentation is complete and self-contained; appendices provide much of the needed mathematical background, and there are extensive references to the current literature. Problems at the ends of chapters help students clarify their understanding. In this new edition, the presentation will be brought up to date throughout, and a new chapter on open quantum systems will be added.

Book Description
The subjects treated here are part of an active and rapidly growing field of research that touches on the foundations of physics and chemistry. Specifically, the book presents, in as simple and coherent a manner as possible, the basic mechanisms that determine the dynamical evolution of both classical and quantum systems in sufficient generality to include nonlinear phenomena. The book begins with a discussion of Noether's Theorem, integrability, KAM theory, and a definition of chaotic behavior; it continues with a detailed discussion of area-preserving maps, integrable quantum systems, spectral properties, path integrals, and periodically driven systems; and concludes by showing how to apply the ideas to stochastic systems. Appendices fill in much of the necessary mathematical background. Based on courses given at Universities in California, Texas, and China, the book will be useful both as a text and as a reference. The presentation is complete, and there are extensive references to the current research literature. Problems at the ends of the chapters will help students clarify their understanding of the concepts.

Christian without being preachy while lovely stories :).......1997-10-13
Someone should make a movie of the main story here because it would be a classic! Simple enough for the very young child but with heart enough for the older reader who has a heart to feel with. I like to read it to myself if I can't find a child to read it to every Christmas.

HE "BAPTIZIES THE IMAGINATION WITH GOODNESS".......1998-05-14
This quaint but charming tale is by the beloved and respected Scottish storyteller, George MacDonald (At the back of the North Wind.) Originally titled, "My Uncle Peter" this Victorian Christmas story was published in 1870 and recounts the heart-tugging adventures of a badly-abused street urchin who is adopted by a kindly gentlemen, then viciously, greedily kidnapped.
MacDonald 's literature (mainly for adults) exerted a great influence on subsequent writers, who freely admit the importance of his literary legacy. C.S. Lewis regards him as his master, claiming to have quoted from him in almost all his books. JRR Tolkien used his work as a measuring stick for his own writitng in Lord of the Rings. MacDonald himself claims that he writes not for children, but for the childlike.
Named Little Christmas this pitiful waif is a character out of Dickens; she inspires both evil and generous reactions in those she meets, while suffering great injustice with stocisim. This story transports the reader back into violent times, with an ingenuous heroine and a tender benefactor. A delightful book to remind us of Christian charity and rekindle the flame of Christmas generosity.
