Ten Secrets of Successful Men That Women Want to Know
Donna Brooks , and Lynn Brooks Manufacturer: McGraw-Hill ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0071385177 |
Book Description
Why, despite all the mentoring programs, executive training seminars, working women's networks, and other initiatives, are professional women still not where they want to be? Why are many women stereotyped as less effective than men?
Why are they frequently less visible? Is there really a set of unwritten "rules of the game" that women just don't know about? What can a woman manager do to avoid being stereotyped and to develop and showcase her skills and competencies, thereby gaining parity with men?
In an attempt to answer those questions, Fortune 500 consultants Dr. Donna Brooks and Lynn Brooks undertook a landmark research project involving hundreds of executives and managers, of both sexes, at many of the world's leading companies. In Ten Secrets of Successful Men That Women Want to Know, the authors take you behind the facade of corporate political correctness to reveal how women in the workplace are really perceivedæand how those perceptions (or misperceptions) continue to keep many talented women from the success they deserve.
Contrary to what many women believe, making it in the corporate world is as much about knowing how to "work" the organizational culture as it is about doing a superlative job. Working from their findings, Donna and Lynn Brooks have developed a set of ten powerful strategies that you can use to gain the skills and competencies that successful leaders draw on. Among other important lessons you'll learn are how to change stereotypes and gain visibility by cultivating a network, ways to develop a personal brand, and how to create a professional portfolio. You'll also discover the value of finding mentors who'll show you the ropes and advocates who'll champion your cause. And you'll uncover strategies for advertising your skills and accomplishments and for recognizing opportunities for advancement and seizing them.
And throughout Ten Secrets you'll encounter many eye-opening true-life experiences of successful leaders who learned the "rules of the game" the hard way, and who, throughout the book, share their observations on the kinds of challenges facing ambitious women in the corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors. You'll also read surprisingly candid comments by executives who reveal what they really think about women and men in the workplacewhy they succeed and why they don't, their fundamental strengths and weaknesses, and how women can best capitalize on their strengths.
The first book to reveal how men think differently about success and what women need to do differently to move up the ladder, Ten Secrets of Successful Men That Women Want to Know is must-reading for women managers at every stage of their careers.

ASIN: 0521814294 |
Book Description
This original text on the basics of option pricing is accessible to readers with limited mathematical training. It is for both professional traders and undergraduates studying the basics of finance. Assuming no prior knowledge of probability, Sheldon Ross offers clear, simple explanations of arbitrage, the Black-Scholes option pricing formula, and other topics such as utility functions, optimal portfolio selections, and the capital assets pricing model. Among the many new features of this second edition are: a new chapter on optimization methods in finance, a new section on Value at Risk and Conditional Value at Risk; a new and simplified derivation of the Black-Scholes equation, together with derivations of the partial derivatives of the Black-Scholes option cost function and of the computational Black-Scholes formula; three different models of European call options with dividends; a new, easily implemented method for estimating the volatility parameter. Sheldon M. Ross is a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at the University of California at Berkeley. He received his Ph.D. in statistics at Stanford University in 1968 and has been at Berkeley ever since. He has published nearly 100 articles and a variety of textbooks in the areas of statistics and applied probability including Topics in Finite and Discrete Mathematics (Cambridge University Press, 2000), An Introduction to Probability Methods, Seventh Edition (Harcourt Science snd Technology Company, 2000), Introduction to Probability and Statistics for Engineers and Scientists (Academic Press, 1999), A First Course in Probability, Sixth Edition (Prentice-Hall, 2001), Simulation, Third Edition (Academic Press, 2002), and Stochastic Processes (John Wiley & Sons, 1982). An Introduction to Mathematical Finance: Options and Other Topics
Sheldon M. Ross Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items: ASIN: 0521770432 |
Book Description
This mathematically elementary introduction to the theory of options pricing presents the Black–Scholes theory of options as well as introducing such topics in finance as the time value of money, mean variance analysis, optimal portfolio selection, and the capital assets pricing model. The author assumes no prior knowledge of probability and presents all the necessary preliminary material simply and clearly. He explains the concept of arbitrage with examples, and then uses the arbitrage theorem, along with an approximation of geometric Brownian motion, to obtain a simple derivation of the Black-Scholes formula. In the later chapters he presents real price data indicating that this model is not always appropriate and shows how the model can be generalized to deal with such situations. No other text presents such topics in a mathematically accurate but accessible way. It will appeal to professional traders as well as undergraduates studying the basics of finance.Customer Reviews:

Necturus -- Oh how I wish there was more info on these.......2000-05-14
Anyway, this book is highly recommended if you have any desire to know about the anatomy of a necturus, or if you even just want to see what one looks like. Basically this book is a great in depth guide to a necturus' anatomy (By the way, a necturus is a mudpuppy) The pictures are quite nice and reveal a lot. If you don't have the heart to dissect one of these critters, but need to know their inner workings, i recommend this book.

ASIN: 0122835220 |
Book Description
A systematic, unifying approach to the dynamics of the ocean and atmosphere is given in this book, with emphasis on the larger-scale motions (from a few kilometers to global scale). The foundations of the subject (the equations of state and dynamical equations) are covered in some detail, so that students with training in mathematics should find it a self-contained text. Knowledge of fluid mechanics is helpful but not essential. Simple mathematical models are used to demonstrate the fundamental dynamical principles with plentiful illustrations from field and laboratory.Customer Reviews:

And Quiet Flows the Don
Mikhail Sholokhov Manufacturer: Vintage ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0679725210 Release Date: 1989-12-17 |
Book Description
This is volume 3 of a five volume set.Sholokhov's book introduces the reader to a New World that is not merely the Don Region, but the world of the author's inimitably poetic prose; giving fifteen years of his life to the creation of And Quiet Flows the Don. He began the first book at the age of twenty, in 1926. The last was finished in 1940. While Leo Tolstoy's novel War and Peace (1863-69) immortalized the Napoleonic campaigns to the eve of the Decembrist revolt, And Quiet Flows the Don showed the destruction of the Cossacks and the birth of a new society.

A modern masterpiece.......2003-12-19
But more than a story of war, this is a story of people. Sholokhov creates for us characters who we deeply care about. The doomed love affair between the protagonist Gregor and Aksinia is both filled with passion and heartache. We even come to care about Akisina husband, the brutal Stephen, We see them caught up in catastrophic events far beyond their control. Although often cited and an apologist for Stalin, I wondered as I read it why it was published in Soviet Union. Our hero Gregor is first swept up on one side of this conflict to the other- clearly he is not a dedicated revolutionary, but just a man trying to survive in a conflict he cannot comprehend. It is a story of survival, love, and revenge. Since my last reading of this novel probably fifteen years ago, I can still vividly picture in my mind the word images that Sholokhov crafted with his pen. Images as simple as the flies settling on the ceiling of the peasants hut, to Stephen brutally stomping his wife Aksinia. His description of the First World War is brutal, perhaps surpassing Remarques All is Quiet on the Western Front.
Russians write great novels and this is one of the best. If you are unfamiliar with Russian literature you would do well to read Quiet Flows the Don as your first Russian novel.
