Customer Reviews:
great for your college-bound senior!.......2003-10-24
I bought this book for my daughter. She is in the college application process, and the student essay was really stressing her out. (There is so much hype and conflicting information from school, guidance, and the other kids!) The information in this book was perfect -- it's not essays to copy, but a true "how-to" on writing winning essays, step-by-step. The examples are clear and totally geared to the student-reader. The advice is practical and easy to follow -- right down to the steps for submitting the application online. A real bargain!!

Another winner!.......2002-05-15
This book was worth the price just to find what I, now, consider to be the supreme DUH! of all times. Hint: it's about pumpkins. What a smack in the head I gave myself after that one. Now, the author may be the self-confessed "Queen of DUH," but let's face it, we have all had our moments. The wonderful thing about Charlene is she not only laughs at herself, but through her delightfully witty writing, she helps the reader do the same for themselves and enjoy it. Personally, I admit to referring to my DUHS as X*X# moments. Thanks to this book, I shall refer to them as painfully obvious moments of stupidity with a funny twist.

Book Description
Proving there is a lot of reading going on in suburbia's smallest room, more than 1.5 million copies of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader have been sold since its first publication in 1988. As the new water-closet contender, Bob Fenster continues his romp into areas of idiot intrigue by chronicling the folly and reckless abandon of the human race.
Covering such topics as "My Favorite Morons," "It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time," "The Surprising Things People Don't Know," and "Dumb Plays in the Face of Fate," this compendium chronicles the densely inept and decidedly ignorant. Featuring outrageous new stories plus the best material from the previous Duh! books this compilation is the ultimate collection of human stupidity.

Buy the Big Box of Crayons.......2002-05-11
A sex toy for your inner child; grrrl power for grown-ups - whatever you want to call it, this coloring book rocks! Artist and illustrator Isabel Samaras has put the joyfully erotic sensibility of her paintings into an interactive format for the masses with Devil Babe, a clean-lined, well-coiffed, oh-so-wicked representation of the bad, bad girl inside us all (lucky us!). For women who love their bodies, love themselves, and men who love them for it.
It'll be with me forever.......2000-05-03
I liked it so much I tattooed one of the images on my right arm!
No kidding.
It's a fine, fine coloring book, too...
Naughty and nice!.......2000-03-29
If you miss reaching for the crayons and spending hours with a good coloring book, than this book is for you (that is, if you're an adult). Samaras's tongue-in-cheek take-off (literally, there are many topless devil girls in this book) on children's activity books is a riot - lots of hot'n'spicy recipes, mazes, even fetish paperdolls. It's really funny, but never goes so far as to be offensive, raunchy, or pornographic, and appeals to women and men. Samaras can really draw up a storm: she's obviously influenced by Catwoman from the old Batman series, Betty Page, and all of the other fabulous babes of the 20th century. We put this book on the coffeetable with a box of crayons and everyone finds it irresistable... Very unique and lots of fun!

All About Roulette.......2000-09-13
"All about Roulette" by John Gollehon is a good introduction to the game of Roulette. It describes how the game was originated, and goes on to explain various aspects of the game. The author tells about the equipments which consists of wheel, table, ball, bet and the chips. The game begins with the rotation of wheel by dealer and the cycle is complete when the next game begins. This cycle consists of various small steps. This description is helpful to understand the process. The chapter 'How to play' explains various types of bets including inside/outside, odd/even, red/black, straight up etc and tells what is wager and how the pay-off is made by dealer. The chapter 'Improving the Odds' gives various ways by which a player may like to increase the chances of winning. The author has suggested the reader to play on "European Style" wheel which has a single zero so more chances of winning money. Playing the single 0 wheel, Clocking the wheel, Clocking the dealer, reading a dealer's mind are some of the aspects which author has touched. It gives a good idea to the general reader. The language is humourous and light one which maintains the interest of the reader to complete the book in one sitting. For the beginner all the bets, wheel, chips, layout of table are explained in detail. Author also describes the built in advantage the casino house has. It gives a clear idea of how much a player is likely to lose because of the bias in favour of casino. When a beginner plays the game, he is certain to overlook many small things like placing the bet only after the dealer playes the ball, picking up the wager when the bet is won etc. This book makes him aware of those aspects so that he is well prepared for the same. The book is handy. However, compared to other books the price is steeply on higher side. Other books in the same price range describe many other games. The reader may find in them more value for the money. But overall it a good introductory book for the game of Roulette.

Customer Reviews:
Thanks from a beginner.......2005-01-28
I bought a couple of books about Dreamweaver and I want to thank you for creating one that even a beginner could follow. The other books I bought were way over my head and I found myself lost before I even got started. I guess if I get more advanced I may appreciate some of the other books, but as someone who is new to Web design, I want to thank you for helping me get started. I couldn't have done it without you.
Covers the Basics.......2004-12-04
Having only once created a webpage on FrontPage, I thought I was a bit ahead of the game. Still, I decided to look into a how-to book for dummies like myself.
Fortunately, I had also purchased the Dreamweaver bible. If you want to do more with your site than just pictures with text and tables... then this is a great book.
I found myself having to look at the Dreamweaver Bible to make my site better.
As for content presentation, I would have preferred if they include Cascade Style Sheets with the inital introduction to HTML. The flow would have been much better.
This book does a bad job covering <META> and Keywords.
So, yes, it's ok for the PLAIN basic of all basics. I recommend it merely for the fact that it introduces you Dreamweaver Menu Items and helps you get around the workspace. But it is not the only book you will need- unless you're just interested in creating a little site with little pictures of your little puppy. Even then, the authors do not cover on getting your website on search engines and finding it once it is up there.
A rush job.......2004-11-10
The first 75% of the book deals with plain HTML, forms and other buttons and takes one from 0 to 5 on a scale to 1000. A lot of space wasted on mechanical clicking around the interface. Explain the menus and options and how to use them and don't need to walk through each one as if I've never seen a mouse. Now, if all you want in a web site is a bunch of words, links and pictures, all you need is MS Word and then Save as HTML. So, I imagine the fun part is when you have a database, to make the site smart... The database examples have missing steps and built in assumptions, no clue as to what could go wrong, etc. Needless to say, I spent many hours searching the net to fill the missing spaces left by this book. To my surprise, I found Macromedia's ONLINE UltraDev help a much better resource, with better explanations and a lot more graphics. Thanks Jannine, but no thanks!
Very useful.......2004-02-01
Dreamweaver is a great program for building a full website. I have as many as 40 pages spun off one template, and about 80% of all my website pages are template pages. It's a real timesaver. Dreamweaver makes using templates for similar webpages easy. Unfortunately, Macromedia's documentation is often dry and a little tedious to try and understand. Fortunately, we have How To books we can count on to make things easier. This book by Warner and Gardner is the best I could find in the bookstore, and I think you'll find it very useful as I did.
A Very Complex Program, Made Easy.......2004-01-18
Here's a little secret: HTML is easy. A good, useable, expandable Web site, though, that's a lot harder, and Dreamweaver is the tool that every professional Web developer I know uses; it's the Mack truck of Web editors. Susannah Gardner and Janine Warner should get a medal for writing a Dummies book for this mega-program, and for doing such a good job with it, that medal ought to be gold. In a mere 390 pages, they cover: Defining and planning Web sites, streamlining your work with templates and library items, working with images, HTML tables, frames, layers, DHTML, JavaScript "behaviors" (as Dreamweaver calls them), integrating with other Macromedia programs like Flash and Fireworks, using forms, and integrating dynamic (i.e. database driven) content. Whew! I recommend the book for anyone who is new to the program, and wants to start out leaning the basics and go all the way to the most advanced uses. However, if you're already an expert Web developer and need more depth on a particular area of Web development, you may want to pick up a different book specific to the task you're trying to do (database integration, for example). What this book does is give you a complete VIP tour of the program, and explain what every part of it can be used for. It's a great first book. Oh, one more thing: The 2004 version of Dreamweaver has a few new changes, including: it handles MS Office importing better, and though it's not yet perfect, it's much better at handling CSS now; if that's important to you, you should upgrade, and get this book.

Customer Reviews:
Dreamweaver tutorial - Good Reference Material.......2007-04-12
I found this book to be fine; well-organized and straight-forward, a good reference book. Not at all technical and maybe a little over-simplified for professional developers. For example, there is a section on how to add a form to a webpage. Good information, but directed to people newer to the world of web dev.
Excellent transaction!.......2005-09-04
The book was in PERFECT condition. prompt shipment & a great transaction over all. A+++
Good intro to web design, lots of useful tips, easy to read........2004-07-15
Janie Warner has put together a pretty good intro to web design using dreamweaver. The book is a bit wordy, but then again all of the Dummies Books are. Dont let the Dummies title scare you. This book has a lot of detail and scope; it just takes her a while to get through it.
The book is well written in an easy to understand style. I especially appreciated her advice on compatability; all too often people new to web design get carried away with effects and bells and whistles .. only to find it takes forever to load or the format gets messed up on other computers. She has a "keep it simple" attitude that I have found very helpful in my own designs.
There are many examples from webpages she has done and observed. I also found that really helpful in deciding how to layout my own sites. She also has a good discussion of CSS (cascading style sheets), and even covers Flash and Shockwave too.
In short the book is not incredibly detailed but it has quite a broad array of information for you to set up a pretty nice web site in very little time. If you have enough familiarity with computers, you can read through the book easily in a weekend and come out armed with lots of good ideas for web page designs. By using the advice in her book, I have gotten great reviews on sites I have done.
Thanks for helping me get started.......2003-10-16
When I lost my job a few months ago, I decided I wanted to learn how to design Web pages, but I wasn't sure where to start. A friend told me Dreamweaver was the program professionals use, but that only intimidated me more. So I picked up your Dummies book, figuring it would be at my level -- and I was so relieved when I discovered it was.
Thank you for writing this easy-to-use guide and getting me started on my new path. Your words were really reassuring and your explanations easy to follow and understand. I've created a few Web sites for friends now and am on my way to doing it professionally. I can't thank you enough and I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to get started with this program.
There's A Better Way.......2003-06-02
If you buy this book and have no previous knowledge of Dreamweaver MX, you are a dummy. The authors may be nice persons, but they are not teachers. You'd be better served using the small manual that comes with Dreamweaver than this book, which is so disorganized it should come with a machete.
Everyone knows the best way to learn is "by doing." Early on in Dreamweaver MX for Dummies, you will make a blank web page, put a title on it - and never see that page again. Conversely, the DW MX manual starts off with you building a static three page web page. Do it a couple of times, and you are on your way.
I suggest that if you need a reference book (which you do) spend your money on Dreamweaver MX Unleashed by Pizzi and Ruvalcaba - much better organized with everything you ever wanted to know about Dreamweaver MX.
