5 out of 5 stars If you use the 12 laws, they will make you indispensable.......2006-02-10

I'm not sure why this small jewel of a book is not more widely read. Within this slim book, you will learn the characteristics, skills, and behaviors that are most valued by employers, customers, and spouses alike. By applying the concepts in this book, you will become indispensable.

I read this book and, day by day, started applying these concepts and, when my contract came up for renewal and another organization made an offer to me, my current employer offered me a 30% raise if I would renew the contract. These concepts really work, if you apply them. Highly Recommended!!

Book Description

Successful futures and stock traders know that speculation--short-term investing--is the only way to make real money in the market. This guide shows how to win at trading on the futures stock markets by recognizing cyclical price trends, timing trades in accordance with key technical signals, tracking movements in or out of markets by various categories of investors, and other strategies. Pacelli shows you how to get started in futures trading, how to take advantage of markets dominated by large institutions, and how to enter and exit trades to guarantee the largest possible profits.

5 out of 5 stars Unique Book.......2006-03-07

This book goes beyond the basic fundamental/technical analysis texts that any trader is familiar with. Pacelli, now a securities regulations lawyer at Jones Day, writes a cogent analysis of capital markets. The basic idea of the book is that a speculator is an important part of our capitalist, free-market system and good speculators get paid when they "demand supply and supply demand." This is more than just buying because the price is low and selling because it is high. My only problem with the book is that it was written in 1987, so there is no analysis of the U.S. equities bubble, the Asian currency crisis, and LTCM. It would be nice of Pacelli were to write an updated edition of this book. Also, this book is out of print, but get your hands on a used copy if you can.

5 out of 5 stars Unquestionably the Best Book on Markets and Trading, Period.......2003-01-23

Of the many dozens of books I've read on markets, trading and speculation this is clearly the best. Extremely well written, the book is both educational and entertaining. I'm personally convinced that the market approach advocated by the author must be considered by anyone who is involved in the very serious business of speculation. Clearly this book is a classic. I've had it over a decade, read it many times, and find myself in trouble more often than not whan I've forgotten to follow the ideas presented.

5 out of 5 stars Best book on the subject of contrarian investing.......1999-02-01

This book is not a technical book about the science of trading or speculating. Rather, it presents a compelling and original perspective on the function of speculation in capital markets, and explains what it means to buy low and sell high. Moreover, the book has very little to do with the commodities markets specifically, and a lot to do with general speculating in the financial markets.

The Speculator's Edge is the first book I have read which explains who takes "the other side" of a stock tranaction, and explains why. As a study of the psychology of investors and the market, the book has few peers. Pacelli states the original of this book came from a boast that he could write the best book available on the subject of speculation (and investing) because most books were worthless. He succeeded.

              Book Description

Crinoids have graced the oceans for more than 500 million years. Among the most attractive fossils, crinoids had a key role in the ecology of marine communities through much of the fossil record, and their remains are prominent rock forming constituents of many limestones. This is the first comprehensive volume to bring together their form and function, classification, evolutionary history, occurrence, preservation and ecology. The main part of the book is devoted to assemblages of intact fossil crinoids, which are described in their geological setting in twenty-three chapters ranging from the Ordovician to the Tertiary. The final chapter deals with living sea lilies and feather stars. The volume is exquisitely illustrated with abundant photographs and line drawings of crinoids from sites around the world. This authoritative account recreates a fascinating picture of fossil crinoids for paleontologists, geologists, evolutionary and marine biologists, ecologists and amateur fossil collectors.

              5 out of 5 stars Fossil Crinoids.......2004-08-07

"Fossil Crinoids" written by Hans Hess, William I. Ausich, Carlton E. Brett, and Michael J. Simms is a wonderfully appointed book all about crinoids from 500 million years age and a last chapter on todays crinoids.

"Fossil Crinoinds" is a very good text for the casual collector of fossils and for the paleontologist with paleoecology and paleozoology stongly associated. "Fossil Crinoids" is divided into two sections. The first, is a general part with Crinoid form and function, with systematics, phylogeny and evolutionary history, then fossil occurences, taphonomy or the process behind the preservation of all fossils especially soft-bodied remains, and ecology and ecological interations. The second part and main part of the text deals with assemblages of intact fossil crinoids, which are described in their geological settings, ranging from the Ordovician to the Tertary, from all around the world. These deposits are mostly here in the United States and Canada, but some are from Europe. The one I was particualrly interested are the ones from Crawfordsville, Indiana which is not too far away as the crow flies from where I'm at.

Crinoids have been found in limestone deposits around the world and they date back to 500 million years ago. If they were like their distant cousins of today, they were brightly colored feather like appearence likened to those found on the coral reefs of today. Crinoids had a key role in in the ecology of the ocean communities. Everything you want to know and more that you'd like to know about crinoids is here in this book making it a wonderful reference book.

"Fossil Crinoids" gets a solid 5 star rating for a very well put together reference text making for ease of understanding of the subject matter.

4 out of 5 stars Wow - if you ever wanted to know about crinoids ..........2000-12-30

I recently bought a plate of fossil crinoids and wanted to identify them. This book has been helpful but not perfect for the task. What the book did do is allow me to come to a radically deeper understanding of what I was looking at (which is what I really wanted). Great diagrams and photos! Magnificent clear explanation! If you have any interest in these funny little animals buy this book.

                                  Book Description

Seated in a Paris café, a man glimpses another man, a shadowy figure hurrying for the train: Who is he? he wonders, How does he live? And instantly the shadow comes to life, precipitating a series of comic run-ins among a range of disreputable and heartwarming characters living on the sleazy outskirts of the city of lights. Witch Grass (previously titled The Bark Tree) is a philosophical farce, an epic comedy, a mesmerizing book about the daily grind that is an enchantment itself.

                                  5 out of 5 stars A French subrealism.......2007-01-09

Raymond Queneau is a first class writer and it is very strange that is not famous. His translator also is very good and was able to retain the intentions of the writer. Queneau is a subrealist that has nothing to envy to the Latin American writers of the boom. He also is hilarious and there s always something else besides the first reading, that shows a French intelectual of first rate.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, delightful, marvellous.......2005-09-02

I can't begin to explain why this book is so delightful. There are plenty of places to start with Queneau--perhaps the lighter, more accessibly funny Zazie is the best introduction--but this is my favorite. As with all of Queneau, it's a mix of silliness, absurdity, surreality, and philosophicality. He's a former philosophy student in the Hegelian tradition, but by way of the Marx brothers rather than Karl.

Like the Marx brothers, Queneau's storylines are trifles usually--but it's hard to care since his books still manage to be so uniquely humorous and thought-provoking. I won't try to explain it, but this book is such a perfect case of Queneau's marvellous ability to mix philosophy and comedy, fairy tales and tragedy, that it's a must read.
