Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent advice in 51 Ways to Find a Job Fast,.......2006-09-11

We purchased Mr. Donlin's book last year and have studied its excellent advice multiple times since then. Among the most helpful pointers: make sure your resume is focused 80% on results and only 20% on responsibilities, instead of the other way around.

Another is: Write an objective for the position you are interested in that shows how you can add value to that company's operations, instead of the more typical objective that people use stating what they are looking for in an employer.

We found just about every chapter to be useful and written with a lot of common sense and real world advice, including How to Get 62,500 people to Send You Job Leads; and say Thank You After Every Interview.

We highly recommend this book.

1 out of 5 stars Interesting how Mr. Donlin posts a comment .......2006-07-26

on the post a comment site of Nick Corcodilus the author of Ask The Headhunter. Does Mr. Donlin need more buyers? Nicks book has been number 1 in its category for years and for good reason. The book is SUPERB. Mr. Donlins book is simplistic at best and so uncreative. Your money would be better spent on buying a tie for the interview after you read Nick's book.

5 out of 5 stars This should be titled 51 simple truths about job hunting.......2004-11-30

Sometimes the simple truths get left behind in this fast paced Internet click till you find a job world. Spend 15 minutes reading through these simple truths and your head will automatically nod in agreement and you will think, why didn't I think of that...

5 out of 5 stars Sound, Practical Advice.......2004-10-15

Having been in the recruiting and hiring business for almost twenty years now, I find the authors approach to be right on target. We receive calls daily from individuals seeking advice on how to find their next opportunity and as the author points out it is a planned process that involves some very basic but demanding requirements that simply will not fail if truly implemented. In these ever changing times this book provides advice for individuals who are seeking a job now but who also should be practicing many of these techniques all the time so that they can be in control of their careers and not controlled by them!

5 out of 5 stars Totally unique 'think ouside the box' job hunt strategies.......2004-10-01

In a world full of the same re-hashed, ho-hum job-seeking advice this book is a refreshing change. To job hunt successfully is to market one's self effectively. Kevin Donlin obviously has a marketing background and it shows in every powerful and unique strategy he teaches in this new book. Absolutely a must have for every job hunter.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Good instruction - poor organization.......2002-04-24

Examples are easy to follow. The first chapters are almost spoon-fed. However organization is whack. The book is designed to be used from cover to cover - no skipping chapters. The index is horrible. In most texts, topics are arranged by chapter in the CONTENTS section and all topics are arranged by alpha order in the INDEX. In this book, it's inconvenient to lookup "model editing" for example. One has to look in each chapter to find which takes a lot more time than scanning an alphabetical listing.

It's a great book for school people, but not for an engineer.

on gambitchess.com you find the move-only file of all games in the book. This is OK with copyright law. saves you the bother of typing it in yourself in your database on PC or palmtop.

The book gives very good insight on chess in historical perspective.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Material - Intermediate to Advanced Players.......2004-01-21

This is a great little study book. It covers a wide variety of lessons; endgames, pawn structures, attacking formations, positional evaluation techniques, etc.

This is NOT a basic textbook for beginner players. the material in this book is probably most useful for players from around 1500 - 2000 USCF. (The book states 1700-2050).

Each lesson is self-contained and can be reviewed in an hour or two. Most of the lessons give a little history regarding a particular player or playing style.

I could not disagree more with the reviewer who downgraded the book because of the history lesson - one who is ignorant of history is bound to repeat it. Also, I know for a fact that most Grandmaster players are very familar with chess history- especially the classic games played by the masters of yester year.

I wholeheartidly endorse this book - each chapter is almost like a seperate chess lesson given by your "tutor".

1 out of 5 stars Whoo hoo: Chess HISTORY!!!.......2002-05-18

Don't bother wasting your time and money on this book. It is not worth either if you're looking to get better. All this book has in it is information about Chess "History" (the forfathers of the game, etc.) and some "basic" endgame knowledge.

1 out of 5 stars Boring and overrated.......2002-03-13

We are so fascinated by Soviet stuff when it comes to chess. Most Soviet chess people exhibit all the humanity of a dead fish. This book is no exception; it will dryly put you to sleep. It is overrated and not important. Save your money. There are so many good chess books. Check out the lists along the sides of these reviews. Those are the classics. You will not find this book on any of them.

5 out of 5 stars Cheap and Great.......2002-02-26

Figure out the price per lesson and you're crazy if you don't buy it. Learning the historical aspects of the game combined with endgames (a main focus), tactics and the basics of strategy is a key to enjoyable play. I play chess to have fun (I'm pretty good too-I've beaten a 2000 rated player before) and this is a great way to entertain yourself and learn more about the game. Each lesson can be gone through in about an hour (I go through them twice in a row to make sure I've got it). I heartily suggest this book!

This book certainly has value, but fails to fulfill expectations beyond the basic use of the various programs. There were many helpful tips, but for an advanced user, this book is not the answer. It is perfect for a beginner or early intermediate user of the programs and is a good reference for a person just getting started on these programs.

I got this book really to learn more about Excel and Access, but I ended up reading the whole thing. I find it works best if you have the programs open and you can practice doing the things the author mentions in the book. As far as Excel goes, I've just about mastered that program after reading the section on it. At work I've put everything on spreadsheets now and it's made my life a whole lot easier!

At first I wasn't going to read the sections on Word or Outlook because I've been using those programs for many years and felt like I already knew everything. However, after reading the sections I was surprised by how much I didn't know. And how I had been doing things the 'hard way' because I was unaware of all the little short cuts and tricks. I highly recommend this book. I was able to go through 2 sections a day, so it took me less then a week to become proficient at Microsoft Office Suite.

Haven't really used the manual yet (waiting for my new computer to be set up). However, perusing through it, it appears to be well-written, the instructions seem to be concise and easy to follow. I feel that this manual will be really helpful to me in navigating through the new system.

Microsoft is a pioneer in making it possible for practically everyone to be able to be informed, cultured and organized in a multicultural and complex world by making both the PC and Windows available for a multitude of softwares and especially by developing the Office Suite. The Office Suite is present on most computers, both at home and at work, but most people only know superficially it's capabilities for multitude of tasks. Personally I have been making use of the Office Suite for many years, but have grown increasingly tired of my inaptness in using it's many features. Therefore I have been looking for a handbook, which I could use as a reference in guiding me to increase my capabilities to operate in an efficient and professional manner. This book serves very well that purpose.

This is a very good book for the just past novice user. It presents clear instructions for exploring some of the bells and whistles that can make you more productive, but you may not know exist. I was disappointed, however, that it did not cover more advanced items such as macros.
