Author Joe Borgenicht doesn't reveal here what he chose to name his son, but you can bet it's not Eubie, Ralph, or Boris. He's right on target when he says parents ought to find the name "that the fewest number of school children could potentially make fun of," and his guidelines are simple. Among them: don't use "clevur speling," avoid naming your kid after the lead character from a blockbuster film, and designate the names of cities and states for maps only. It's not a perfect baby-shower gift for everyone, as he mentions plenty of names that unfortunately rhyme with anatomical parts usually heard only in sex-ed classes. And some of his advice is utterly subjective: the name "Ethan," in his opinion, evokes the image of "a thick sweater-wearing, curly-haired college kid who smokes a lot of pot." But the list of more than 1,000 names to avoid is worth plenty of chuckles, and may save your offspring from 85 or so years of embarrassment. Sure, those pregnancy hormones are powerful, but they needn't be responsible for a lifetime of suffering on the part of your child. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
The perfect antidote to the boring baby-naming books -- a hilarious guide for expecting parents on what
NOT to name their baby!
What better way to choose the perfect name than by ruling out those names that are off-limits?
Joe Borgenicht offers more than a thousand names, complete with pronunciation and definitions, that absolutely, positively cannot be used for a child. But don't worry, there are exceptions to the rules, and a lot of names will work just fine, especially if there's something wrong with you. Sections of the book include: "Movie Mania" (Morhpeus, Maverick, and Starsky); "It's the 21st Century: Move On!" (Murray, Irving, and Ethel); and "Shop at the Mall, Not the Nursery" (Timberland, Lucky, and Armani). There are hilarious sidebars and lists, like: "Infamous Dictators" (Saddam, Benito, and Manuel); "Famous Sidekicks" (Robin, Tonto, and Garfunkel); and "First Voted Off the Island" Survivors (Sonja, Debb, and Peter); and more!
We've all heard the bad ones: Moon Unit (Zappa), Sailor Lee (Brinkley), Chastity (Bono). With an edgy and often politically incorrect sense of humor, What Not to Name Your Baby is certain to help expecting parents be creative, without scarring their child for life -- at least not with a name.

Customer Reviews:
A good book, even if you are not going to have a baby!.......2000-08-09
This book is dedicated to "the millions yet unnamed: good luck." This whimsical book contains 32 (if I counted correctly) photos of babies making a wide range of hilarious faces. The intention of the authors was to ensure that you did not misname your child. Among the many names recommended against are: Beavis, Clyde, Spud, Hortense, and Soon Yi.
This book is *not* to be taken seriously. It is a silly book, which will make you laugh. Indeed, one-by-one, my entire family thumbed through the book, laughing all the way.
A Wonderful Gag Gift for Parents-to-be!.......1998-07-29
I laughed hystericallly when I first saw this book, mostly because my brother Spiro's name was in there! Poor guy! Actually this is a great gift idea for new moms and dads and I buy this book in quantity. Every person who has received this book from me has had a good laugh with it.
A Great Gift for Expecting Parents!.......1997-02-07
If you're really looking for baby names, this is not the book for you, but it is a great gag gift for expecting parents. What really makes the book is the multitude of photographs of baby mugs contorted into the most hilarious cries and pouts!
This book lists names alphabetical, does not include meanings, or ethnic origin.
But don't be offended if you were about to name your child Fifi or Wenceslas.. this book is purely subjective! ;)

Book Description
The MP3 and iPod revolution have changed forever how people listen to music, but choosing what to listen to next remains the dilemma of music lovers everywhere. As music director of KCRW in Santa Monica, CA, and DJ of the influential “Morning Becomes Eclectic” show, Harcourt uncovers the best in new and overlooked music for over half a million listeners every day. In Music Lust, Harcourt does what Nancy Pearl did for books in her national bestseller Book Lust. With more than 80 unique and unusual thematic lists, Harcourt offers a wide-ranging guide to the best in recorded music, from Frank Sinatra to Frank Zappa, Billie Holiday to Billy Bragg, bebop to hip-hop, The White Album to Back in Black, and much, much more. Known as an international tastemaker, Harcourt lends his discerning ear in recommended listening lists such as “Queens of Punk,” “Great Road Music,” and “My Desert Island Discs.” Within each list, key bands and performers are introduced and discussed, and pivotal albums and songs identified. With the diversity of genres represented and Harcourt at the helm, Music Lust’s eclectic access to musicians, themes, and styles is spot-on for this moment in music.
Customer Reviews:
Waste! (and Im a fan of his).......2007-07-04
I am so utterly dissapointed with Nic Harcourt's book, Music Lust. He is the host of a terrific, incredibly influential public radio show, Morning Becomes Eclectic, yet instead of writing an inspired, insightful book on modern music he decides to present a cheap, poorly written overview of music of the past century. None of the artists are covered with much depth. The interior art direction is cheap and tacky. Some bands mentioned come out of nowhere. (Alanis Morrisette? Give me a break).
Nic is an extremely well respected musical afficionado--instead of giving us original opinions on past artists or promoting current progressive musical movements/artists, we get semi-glossed, poorly written pop music history. He is not even entirely accurate, proof that probably someone else convinced him to write this drivel. For example, "The eighties was a difficult period for [the Grateful Dead], with several members of the group dying as a result of drug abuse and tragic accidents." (A) No Grateful Dead band members died in the eighties. (B) The one ex-member that died in the 80's, Keith Godchaux, died in a car accident in 1981. He hadn't been a member of the Dead since 1979. The other death in the group, apart from Pigpen in the 70's, was Brent Mydland, who passed away in the early 90's.
What the hell is Harcourt doing writing about bands like the Dead anyway? That style of music has never been covered or appreciated on his show, so why are they mentioned here? The Dead deserve a rightful place among rock music legends, but this just goes to show how Harcourt blew it with this book.
Harcourt can't even give the reader a properly researched overview, let alone a well-written one. His writing style is simplistic to the point of childlike. I felt I was reading an 8 year old's introduction to the history of pop music. The only positive aspect is that band names are highlighted in bold so the reader can skip over all the pages and bands that don't interest them.
Nic I hope you're next book is more focused and inspired. I want to be turned on to new music, not given a cheap and hasty rehash of past artists. I'll consult Rolling Stone or far more authoritative opinions than yours for this.
Good Book.......2006-04-05
I will admit that I don't listen to Nic Harcourt's show, in fact I don't listen to the radio at all, so I don't have anything to say about him based on him playing or not playing music I like on his show.
On the other hand, I have read his book, and it's a fun read, nothing major, and if you want to learn more about the artists listed, try and find a biography about them, or check out their back-catalouge. Nic has come up with lists of his favorite records/artists in multiple genres and also lists his favorite albums from several of his favorite artists.
A good book and worth picking up.
Shill for the labels.......2006-04-02
An irritaing morning DJ from a corrupted "public radio" station presents his mingy design for living as some sort of guide for the truly clueless.
Be forewarned, by the time you've worked these records into your life, he'll have moved onto another trend and will look down his nose at you. You'd do better asking a 16 year-old for musical advice, at least they mix genuine passion with their self-regard and trend-hopping.
Tastemaker for teenaged white girls........2006-02-09
This is the DJ who singlehandedly ruined a once great radio show, KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, formerly hosted by Tom Schnabel and Chris Doritas. Harcourt's Brit-Pop content free taste is unlistenable, especially at 9:00 AM. He's a genius at ferreting out silly, souless crappola. Happy reading.
a love for lust........2006-01-26
a very fine read from a man who really knows how to break music down into categories you would have never even thought of. you name it, it's there. thanks, nic.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......2007-07-24
If you're going to use VFP for more than casual GUI changes to your program, this book is a wealth of info. Concise, in-depth, and a lovely addition to your collection.
Doesn't Walk the Talk.......2006-06-02
Let me first say that I'm a dBase programmer and a relative novice to Visual Foxpro. Even still, though I've loaded the software version of this book onto my computer and consulting it many times, I still haven't found a useful tip that justified the $40 I paid for it.
I'm getting much better help on-line from the Google search tips for VFP and the sample solutions that Microsoft supplies with the software.
Perhaps the problem is the book seems to have been designed for the highly knowledgeable user. My sense is most of the tips come from the authors' custom consulting jobs. Which is fine, but for those who are not VFP experts, it's not very useful.
Apparently a good introductory/intermediate book on Foxpro hasn't been written yet. Still looking.
learn more about fox pro.......2003-03-30
i need to review this book
A keeper..........2002-07-08
This book is not a comprehensive reference book for VFP. This book is not an instructional book for someone new to VFP. This book does not focus on any single aspect of VFP.
This book IS a smorgasbord of useful tips and information that helped me out immediately. Not all of the tips were new to me, but unless you're already a very accomplished VFP programmer, you're sure to find some real gems here, many of which are not addressed in other VFP books. The example code is very specific and detailed, particularly if you download the sample files. This book is a special niche kind of a book that is hard to categorize, but for my purposes it's been fantastic.
don't read just purchase it !.......2002-06-07
I baught all visual foxpro books available. "1001 things you wanted to know about visual foxpro" It Include more tips and tricks than all other books put together. Even there is some features that change the length of code dramtically, say 1 hour instead 1 week of work.
