Awesome Book.......2003-03-12
I'm a cosmetology student who has had a few months of "basic" hair colouring. This book gave me some new ideas and tools to expand my knowledge. I highly recommend it!

Book Description
Aileen McColgan's book makes an important contribution to the study of Labour Law in a number of ways. Firstly, she offers a convincing and authoritative account of the failures of the current approach adopted in the UK (even with the EC reinforcements) for the securing of more equitable arrangements on pay. Secondly, the book provides a valuable insight into the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches adopted in other parts of the world. The author spent a great deal of time in Canada studying the novel approaches there, and her analysis of the approaches adopted in Ontario, and also Australia form a good part of the book. Thirdly, the author addresses the wider issues of different forms of wage regulation and enriches our understanding by indicating that the gender pay gap may be determined to some extent by the way in which pay is regulated. This leads to the conclusion that more emphasis on wage payment structures would be a more helpful way of dealing with the problem of equal pay than the current preoccupation with an individual complaints driven model.

Book Description
THE TERMINATOR'S TERM, TOTALLY RECALLED!
The real story of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's first one hundred days in office comes to life in vivid two-color photographs and completely fictitious captions. Governor Arnold tells the story of Schwarzenegger's historic first days in office, in pictures that are evocative, dramatic, and sometimes truly frightening -- especially the ones in which he is wearing no shirt.
New Yorker humorist Andy Borowitz, creator of the award-winning website BorowitzReport.com, travels to Sacramento for an up-close, exclusive look at a man with a mission: to reshape California in his own monstrous, bulging-veined image. It's a book for history buffs...about the buffest man in history! Governor Arnold is guaranteed to make the Governator stop groping women...and start groping for superlatives!
Customer Reviews:
Arnold Rocks!.......2004-04-20
I have never laughed so hard at a book - the photo of Governor Arnold introducing "Casual Fridays" to Sacramento is worth the price alone! An unbelievably inspired concept, perfectly executed. Two thumbs way up.
Triumph of the Absurd.......2004-04-20
No one captures the absurdity of politics better than Andy Borowitz, and he has done it again with GOVERNOR ARNOLD. I have had this book on my desk for the past three months and have had it stolen about five times! Once people start reading it they can't put it down - and neither will you. Highly, highly recommended.
Borowitz at his best.......2004-04-20
I am a HUGE fan of Andy Borowitz from hs work in The New Yorker and also his website. Governor Arnold is a must-have for Borowitz fans. It's typical of his work - side-splittingly hilarious AND concise. It's a quick read, to be sure, but you'll read it again and again. (PS - I don't think Arnold has ever looked in better shape!!!)
You Don't Have To Be a Democrat.......2004-04-20
I have voted Republican my entire life, and even voted for Arnold, which is why my brother gave me this book (to poke fun at me). Well, I laughed and laughed and I have given it to many of my Republican friends. The combination of the funny pictures (especially the Conan era ones) and the captions is irresistible.
Tedious, Unfunny.......2004-04-17
Good political humorists write in such a way that readers will laugh, irrespective of their political affiliation. Michael Moore and PJ O'Rourke are examples of such writers. Unfortunately, Borowitz lacks the tact, wit, and sense of humor to write true political satire. His attempts at humor usually elicit groans unless you already agree with his shrill left-wing point of view, in which case you're only reading to reinforce your narrow point of view. Borowitz's humor is neither intelligent nor thought-provoking. If the book actually zeroed in on the Governor's shortcomings rather than reduce him to the simple-minded stereotypes that are common among the intellectually uninitiated Left, he might have actually had some fodder for political humor. The book is boring- a waste of time and money.
Book Description
This landmark book enlightens amateur and professional musicians about a way of practicing that transforms a sometimes frustrating, monotonous, and overly strenuous labor into an exhilarating and rewarding experience. Acclaimed pianist and teacher Madeline Bruser combines physiological and meditative principles to help musicians release physical and mental tension and unleash their innate musical talent. Prepare the body and mind to practice with ease
Understand the effect of posture on flexibility and expressiveness
Make efficient use of the hands and arms
Employ listening techniques to improve coordination
Increase the range of color and dynamics by using less effort
Cultivate rhythmic vitality
Perform with confidence, warmth, and freedom
Photographs show essential points of posture and movement for a variety of instruments.
Customer Reviews:
Good Musicianship is in the practice room.......2007-08-27
This book is written to help you improve your ideas and mental outlook toward daily practice.. Ms. Bruser goes into the importance of technical correctness, including posture and movement, but she really inspires us to approach practice with a different attitude. I play the tuba as an amateur. After reading her book, I began to practice more, but I actually may spend less time playing notes. Musicianship implies technical expertise, but this book is really written to help you improve your artistic musicality and learn to make music with passion, intelligence and sensitivity. To do this, you must approach each practice much like a performance, or a master class with you as your own clinician. Practice is not just face time with your instrument..
A wonderful insight into making music.......2007-01-20
There are some incredibly useful insights into making music. Madeline Bruser suggests getting into a routine and following it daily. Much emphasis is on avoiding practice-related physical and mental injuries. For serious musicians, it eliminates much of the angst surrounding each practice session and brings back the joy that ultimately is the fundamental reason to play.
Another book to check out: Effortless Mastery: Liberating the Master Musician Within by Kenny Werner (an absolutely killer jazz pianist)
on amazon and elsewhere: [...]
The Art of Practicing.......2006-11-06
Inspiring, readable book with wonderful advice for improving musical performance through physical, intellectual, and emotional exercises. Visualizations are simple and effective. I'm recommending it to all my serious piano students.
A valuable resource for all musicians.......2006-07-20
Madeline Bruser's compendium on her Art of Practicing seminars will prove valuable to all musicians who feel that the physical/mental stresses of life affect their playing. For a long time I suffered from a sore left wrist after a several hour practice session at the piano which was a result of built up tension and using inefficient motions. After correcting the height of my bench (to be higher) and studying Bruser's text (specifically the chapters on stretching/basic mechanics) I have begun to learn to play in a much more relaxed and efficient manner. Her book is inspiring and full of radiant ideas. I would recommend it to anyone who feels that their practicing has become stagnant or whose expression and speed is being held back by forceful and tense playing.
A must have for serious teen music students.......2006-02-28
I bought this book for my 16 year old flautist. She read and re-read this book until the words seem to come off the page. It totally inspired her practice sessions for upcoming concerts. The difference was phenominal !!

Ancient Secrets of Bureaucratic Magic Revealed!.......2001-11-26
If you've ever seen the "punk" magicians, Penn and Teller, you know that a lot of their act is about showing you how the trick is done, then, as a topper, finishing the trick in some new way that takes the trick to some new level of mystification. TECHNOLOGY AS MAGIC is a lot like that, but this final topper is your own recognition that you've been a mark and a sucker, and that you will continue to be a mark and a sucker until you turn off the TV, throw away the paper, and start spreading the word about empty incantationsof the government, media, and marketers that have robbed us of clarity in thinking and blurred our moral sensibilities.
If you've ever had to write administrative tripe and felt queasy doing so, if you've ever had to devise an apologia to convince management to proceed with some new action system and knew all along that you were only supplying a rationale to make the powers-that-be breathe easier, if you've ever had to generalize about a heterogenous population -- for instance, turning them into a "target market" knowing full well that everything you're saying is a lie and is based on the most abusive forms of instrumental rationalism, and only perpetuates the pseudo-sociology, pseudo-psychology, pseudo-statistics, and pseudo-trends of the media and the "research" that justifies their colonization of yet another group of consumers, this book offers a clear structure for thinking through how you got to such an impasse.
Jacques Ellul, who I haven't read but now feel I must based on Stivers' description of his synopsis of the three historical eras, is the guiding spirit behind TECHNOLOGY AS MAGIC. Showing how magic has always been with us from prehistory through to the present day, Stivers using his basic model to show how the magic of numbers and images have supplanted critical thinking in our time. The only shortcoming, perhaps, is Stiver's using statistics to demonstrate some of his points. And one of his major points is that statistics is the favorite instrument of administrative magic. But other than that, this an inisightful, bracing work which deserves wide readership.
Among other tricks, plastic words -- the empty incantations of administrative magic -- are herein revealed. Use them vigorously, use them prolifically, and you will go far! Also revealed the basic structure of all advertising communications (based on Neil Postman's insights): discontent => contentment => ecstasy. Indeed in the wrong hands this books is a gold mine of strategies for the cynical and unscrupulous in media, government, and business, as it clearly explains how all of this bogus magic works. But will they be more dangerous if they know what they're doing? Probably. Because then their cynicism will be all the more complete, they will be all the more dangerous. We can only hope Stivers' pungent, stinging prose and death(-state) defying criticism is strong enough to scare them off!
A Brilliant Analysis of Technology, Media, and Society.......2000-02-08
This book illuminates a half dozen crucial trends in the contemporary world: Technology, Corporate Management fads, New age thought patterns, Self improvement programs, and (most trenchantly) the form and content of Electronic Mass Media, by showing how they fit into a new 'magical' way of thinking about reality. Stivers finds our acceptance of technological, cybernetic change destructive to genuine scientific, humanistic, and ethical thought and action. He explains this acceptance as the results of a series of successful manipulations of public opinion, feeling, and the shaping of the self in the modern-techno world. His main claim -- that while technology obviously 'works', and accomplishes certain practical tasks marvelously, its main contribution to the modern world -- and its main attraction for people -- is the magical qualities that people are learning to impute to it. Nature as a sacred powerful milieu has been replaced by Technology as our sacred powerful milieu.
Stivers is most heavily influenced by Jacques Ellul, and his great contribution is to carry Ellul's terrific insights forward and bring them right up to the present wild techno-ride we are on. I expect this book to be of great help to me in my teaching on Computers & Society, and it has already helped me put into better perspective several themes I have been working on.
Customer Reviews:
Warning.......1999-04-15
If you are reading this, I must warn you not to by this book. Alone it's pretty good but... Fasa will be releasing a book called Man & Machine: Cyberware to outdate this book. It will be combinging Shadowtech and Cybertech. Something for you street sams to cream your jeans about.
A must-have for any Shadowrun player........1999-02-22
The addition of bioware makes this book a worthy addition to any Shadowrun library. But, besides the bioware, you get new cyberware and chemical compoundsto play with. The only major problem that I had with this book was the fact that some parts of it are more like a lecture out of my anatomy and physiology class than a sourcebook. But if you don't mind falling asleep in some of the more boring parts (the section explaning genetics) then this book is a very good buy.
Necessary.......1999-02-04
A great book for filling your characters with state-of-the-art biowar
Can we say no essence? :).......1998-10-14
Beef up your charicter with cultured bioware and become the most un-natural creature to grace New Seattle without cyberware! Seriously though, this is a good reference book. If its a toss up between this one and cybtertechnology, go with Shadowtech. The cover looks better too.
A good book for Players and GM's who wanna beef up PC's.......1998-08-04
"Shadowtech" has everything an NPC or PC could want! This book includes: Bioware, Cyberware, Genetics, and Chemistry for the Shadowrun RPG. An easy way to add new life to old characters, and players who are tired of the "Average Joe" with a gun.

Customer Reviews:
loved this program.......2007-08-23
If you have to use APA format for papers, you want to get this. It is invaluable. It solved my dilema of how to format papers. All you do is fill in the blanks on the pop up screen and it automatically formats the paper. Love it!
Great tools for APA format.......2005-08-02
First I want to thank the creators of this software, it has been a great help for me to format my academic paper without any trouble. It was a little complicated to locate the proper choice os source on the referece insertion list, but soon was figured out and did not have any problem since. I would recommand any undergrats to purchase this product for their paper format, it saved me a lot of time so I can concentrate on the important job, the actual paper writing.
Nope! Not a keeper.......2003-10-05
I purchased this software at the beginning with the understanding that "updates" and "upgrades" would be available...They were not and trying to complete a dissertation with this has been impossible. After 30 years of being a professional student and teacher I am very dissappointed in this software. I give this software a failing grade.
A glorified reference page builder.......2002-12-14
Wow, what a huge waste of time and money. The product cannot be equated with its namesake for several reasons: 1)Formatease does not allow you to do future editing on your reference outside of the preview box. 2)Suppose you want to insert your citations after you have entered all your references (Hmm...I guess the boys at Guildford didn't think about that!)You are left having to begin the process of entering references all over again. Is that their idea of format ease-maybe in Hades. 3)Format ease doesn't save your references in memory, it simply applies it to your reference page (I don't think many people can recommend this product for anything other than building a reference page, ... peraps your just better off doing it for yourself.)
