Customer Reviews:
BEST BOOK, BEST VALUE, BEST COVERAGE FOR THE HOBBYIST.......2006-02-25
I have been involved with electronics as a hobbyist for over thirty years on and off. I own a book from 1985 authored by Mr. Marston. I still read it for his clear, concise and straightforward format. I purchased this book with another from this author in the series, 'Linear IC' from Newnes Pocket Books-Electronics Circuits Pocket Book. It is a small format but it is justified when you see the volume of information contained. You can delve into theory of operation or just build some circuits knowing you have the info to modify, expand and create more complex circuits. Forget author Forrest Mims books there is no comparison. If this book was in a larger format it would probably sell for fifty dollars. The size itself I find an asset. It is easily taken with you to read anywhere and has a tough cover to protect it's contents. Truly one of the best electronic books I have purchased at Amazon. The 'Linear IC' book in this series by Mr. Marston has slightly larger print. I am so impressed with this format from Newnes and the author I ordered the other volume in this series 'Digital Logic IC Pocket Book' I looked on Amazon for over five hours looking for the best book as a hobbyist and I found several of them with this series by Mr. Marston.

A Great American History Review!.......2002-01-26
Stan Mack has created an intelligent, funny book about Early American History. My students loved it, saying it motivated them more than any other material I had provided for them. They made constant references to funny asides from the comic strips, and they wanted to know if we would be using any more of it for the rest of the year. Alas, I can find no other volumes on American History by Stan Mack. Our loss! Tom, US History teacher
A funny and complete cartoon history of the Jews.......1998-03-05
Praise for THE STORY OF THE JEWS by Stan Mack
"Funny and original, and it won't take 4,000 years to read."
-Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons
"Veteran cartoonist Stan Mack brings his hip, contemporary sensibility to bear upon the sacred precincts of Jewish history and the result is, unexpectedly, a joy to behold. The artful and varied drawings breathe an air of enchantment that will both beguile and instruct children while the often mischievous asides and commentary should bring a knowing smile to the lips of the most sophisticated adults. By sweeping away the cobwebs from Jewish history, Stan Mack has taken something familiar and made it fresh, piquant, and appealing to people of all ages."
- Ron Chernow, author of The Warburgs
"The work is wonderful! What a refreshing view of the story. I didn't want it to end."
- Leonard Nimoy
"No mordant minimalism, The Story of the Jews; Stan Mack puts it all out there, in a wonderfully funny and enlightening way."
- Ann Beattie, author of Another You
"Profound congratulations to Stan Mack on authoring this singular and most-needed history of the Jewish people. To say that it is highly-readable and extremely enjoyable is understating the obvious. The work presents concepts and ideas that, for other authors, might take pages or chapters to explain. But Stan Mack, through his imaginative drawings, delivers the concepts and convictions of the Jewish people in a charming and engrossing style. Mazel Tov: we really needed this opus to supplement all the other long and stogy Jewish history books."

Mayrig-A Moment of Great Appreciation.......1997-06-16
Have you ever been enticed by a glamorous title of a book? Have you ever found out that the book you just bought is nonsense and bores you to death? Yes! You probably have. However, if you purchase Henri Verneuil's Mayrig, you will not regret it.
This book doesn't say much with it's title. It is unknown to most of the readers, unless they are Armenian. Mayrig means "mother" in Armenian, and the author starts the book with a simple and sad sentence: "Mayrig is dying." Then he goes back to his gloomy childhood, and tells a story that astonishes the reader. It is the history of Armenian people; the history of 1915 masacres of 1.5 million Armenians, commited by the Turkish government. It is a wonderful piece of literature, an amazing story of Ashot Malakian-an Armenian boy who had to leave his parents' homeland, and adopt to a new society, adopt to the Parade street of Marcel, France.
If you have a chance, I would recommend you to read this wonderful book, and also watch the film produced by the author, starring Claudia Cardinalle and Oman Sherif

Cyberspace: The Final Frontier! New Trekkers can go warp-speed to the web's good stuff--over 800 of the best Trek-related sites.
Customer Reviews:
Get to More Outstanding Trek Sites in Less Time!.......2000-11-09
This book is an essential resource for all Star Trek fans who can use the Internet.
Let me explain why. Search engines have many weaknesses. They only check for certain key words, and they rank order the output in very long lists. For specific details on one page inside of a site, search engines are usually unable to help you. But perhaps the biggest weakness is that you have to think of the right things to search for.
As much as I love Star Trek, I would never spend hours using 20 different search engines and every word I could think of to try to find the best sites. Also, I wouldn't want to plow through a lot of lousy sites. I would simply give up, and not go further. That would be a mistake.
Star Trek is so popular that there are many more sites and types of sites than you can possibly imagine, and certainly many more than I ever imagined. For example, the book lays out all of the cast and characters of all the series and movies. It turns out that you have many sites to choose from (both in the U.S. and in other countries) for each character and performer.
Let me share a story with you. I was sitting at a table in a large meeting room a few years ago with an empty seat next to me. Dinner was about to be served. A nice-looking gentleman asked me if the seat was taken, and I asked him to please sit down. About 2 and a half seconds later, I realized that this was George Takei (Sulu to Trekkers). Well, I had a tremendously enjoyable three hours talking with him about his acting career, his interests, and current projects. Mr. Takei proved to be highly intelligent, gracious, and a real pleasure to be with in person. Now, I have to assume that my other favorite actors and actresses from Star Trek are not going to make themselves available to me in this way, but I can now use this book to visit Web sites and have experiences that will be somewhat like my wonderful dinner with Mr. Takei. I hope you will enjoy those visits as much as I did mine with Mr. Takei.
After you visit the sites for the cast and characters, you can always go to the film and television series sites. From there, you can find the best discussion sites for your interests. You can further visit the best multimedia sites.
I didn't realize that there was original Star Trek art on-line, and look forward to examining it. You can also acquire lots of Star Trek software (for cursors, fonts, icons, screensavers and wallpaper), plus directions for how to save and use them.
If you like to collect characters, there's help for you, as well.
If you are into Star Trek games, there are sites to help you "solve" whatever is stalling your progress.
But if you are like me, you will be fascinated by the section that begins on page 179 on how to build your own Star Trek site. And with a better sense of what is and is not available now, you can create a better, more intersting site.
We all know that some sites on any subject contain objectionable material. The listing of all the sites in this book tells you wish ones to avoid for this reason. Also, if you are screening sites for your youngsters, you can use this to avoid sites with adult material on them. So your young Voyager fanatic can trek safely in Cyberspace with your help.
After you realize what is available on-line about Star Trek, I suggest that you plan a regular schedule of voyages to help increase your enjoyment. As you do, be sure to pay attention to the chronology of Stardates in this book to help you keep what you are viewing in order.
Star Trek is all about the idea that the only limitations are the ones that we accept in ourselves. I hope you will use your Internet voyages to reaffirm your faith in that belief. Also, ask yourself where you are limiting yourself today. And then begin to eliminate those limits.
Be unbounded in your mission (except by the Prime Directive)!
A great resource!.......1999-12-26
This is a really cool book that should be owned by every Trekker
A small price to pay for new frontiers in cyberspace!.......1999-11-03
I am a big fan of Star Trek and thought I knew most of the popular web sites but this book pointed the way to so many new fun & different sites I never knew existed!

excellent universal symbolism for insight and growth.......2007-09-03
STAR+GATE is a system created for personal insight and growth. The symbols are universal in nature and easily understood by everyone. Once life patterns are recognized, awareness of choice can result in changing life patterns that no longer serve our wellbeing, since the only way to grow is through change. I have also used the card images in dream workshops to exercise the right creative, intuitive brain to facilitate dream interpretation. Although out of print, these sets are very worthwhile and can often be found on the internet.
Excellent intuition tool.......1997-04-26
I found this system of cards very easy to use
for guiding individuals and myself regarding
issues in life.
I have been asked by several people how to

The all-time best-selling TCP/IP book, this is still the reference for anyone who wants to learn about or work with the TCP/IP protocol suite. Justly renowned for its clarity and accessibility, this superb text covers wide area Internet backbones as well as local area network technologies like FDDI and Ethernet. This is volume 1 of a 3 part set including Internetworking With TCP/IP (Vol. 2): Design, Implementation, and Internals and Internetworking With TCP/IP (Vol. 3): Client-Server Programming and Applications/BSD Socket Version
Customer Reviews:
very good and technical, but not focused on minutia.......2007-07-10
Many networking books I read (or other books on similarly technical subjects) have a tendency to get bogged down in technical minutia that distracts from the big picture. Not so here. Cormer does an excellent job of getting all the important information out there and explains the common networking protocols, what goes into them, and what they do, without losing the reader. Do not think that this is a superficial view though - I've been in the field for several years now and still use it as a reference on occasion.
The fifth edition is out........2006-02-18
Look for the 5th edition of this same book.
4th edition is much older than the newer 5th edition.
Great Service.......2005-09-23
I purchased the book titled: Internetworking with TCP/IP Vol.1: Principles, Protocols, and Architecture (4th Edition)for a class. The book arrived ahead of schedule, marking the service amazon provided as second to none. Keep up the great work.
Superb!!!.......2005-07-12
Want to really, really, really know TCP-IP???
Read this book and you will know it cold.
Beginners look no further!.......2005-06-11
I knew nothing about TCP/IP. As a result, I bought a book "learn TCP/IP in 24 hours" and trashed it after I bought this book, no more 24 hour books. I had no idea what routing is and were to start looking for documents on the internet. This book is scientific and puts it all together. Each chapter lists the RFC that he relied on so you know were the stuff came from. The book is not boring; the author is excellent in explaining ideas. He covers ICMP, GGP, OSPF, EGP, DHCP, DNS, BOOTP, ARP and more. I feel I have accomplished something big by reeading this book. If you are not a beginner in routing, then look at the RFCs they are the source.

Book Description
This best-selling, conceptual introduction to TCP/IP internetworking protocols interweaves a clear discussion of fundamentals with the latest technologies. Leading author Doug Comer covers layering and shows how all protocols in the TCP/IP suite fit into the five-layer model. With a new focus on CIDR addressing, this revision addresses MPLS and IP switching technology, traffic scheduling, VOIP, Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN), and Selective ACKnowledgement (SACK).
Includes coverage of Voice and Video Over IP (RTP), IP coverage, a discussion of routing architectures, examination of Internet application services such as domain name system (DNS), electronic mail (SMTP, MIME), file transfer and access (FTP, TFTP, NFS), remote login (TELNET, rlogin), and network management (SNMP, MIB, ANS.I), a description of mobile IP, and private network interconnections such as NAT and VPN. The new edition includes updates to every chapter, updated examples, a new chapter on MPLS and IP switching technology and an expanded TCP description that featuers Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) and Selective ACKnowledgement (SACK).
For network and web designers, implementers, and administrators, and for anyone interested in how the Internet works.
Customer Reviews:
A very good overview of TCP/IP protocols.......2007-06-02
This book describe the TCP/IP family protocols. Of course, there is so much to say that in the limited space that a book can offer that I would say that the book presents only a quick overview of the protocols. Fortunately, at the end of each chapter, there are pointers on the relevant RFCs for the discussed topic in that chapter. My next statement is an impression and not a proven fact but by having read the first edition a long time ago, I have the impression that some details have been removed in this edition in favor of a better coverage of more new protocols. That being said, the information contained in the book is extremely accurate and the book is very useful when analyzing the output of a packet sniffer such as WireShark (previously known as Ethereal).
An ideal book for both student and Engineer.......2007-01-11
This book is written in a very readable style and yet covers vast ground in a concise way. Its organisation is excellent and the index finds references to the most useful sections quickly and accurately. The student will quickly gain insight into the protocols and operation at an advanced level, and the design engineer will gain the oversight to design excellent products. The references in each chapter provide good additional reading where extra depth is necessary, but are not required for most readers. It is a system designers book, not aimed at implementors of a TCP/IP stack, and this lack of reference to particular software constructs comes as a relief in todays publishing. The best book on this subject which I have read.
Most Comprehensive Networking Book Around.......2007-01-10
The title is misleading. This book is a terrific overview of networking concepts and applications. The chapters are complete, but concise, and Comer's style makes it an easy read.
Not an in-depth coverage.......2007-01-04
This book tries to cover too many topics and does not cover any one in enough depth. I would recommend it only as an introductory book on TCP/IP.
Many topics, but not an in-depth reference.......2006-07-23
Internetworking with TCP/IP does a very good job introducing almost all relevant topics about TCP/IP networking you should hear of. Thus, it deserves 4 stars because it succeeds in providing an *INTRODUCTORY* guide to this field.
However, if you're looking for a more in-depth and detailed explanation about TCP/IP insights, Steven's 'TCP/IP Illustrated' is the reference you need. The same happens if you want to get more details about routing protocols or real-time and VoIP related stuff (RTP/RTCP for example).
If the introductory level is enough for you, this is a very good choice.
