Marketing Yourself to Employers: A Step By Step Guide to Getting the Job You Want.......2007-03-30
The book is a bit dated, given that a floppy disk comes with it. And it is written by an Australian and while providing general job hunting suggestions, is also geared towards finding a job in Australia. I don't think it's worth the price.

Customer Reviews:
Beware, this is a Technical manual.......2002-05-08
I bought this thinking I could beef-up my knowledge on DVD-Audio and SACD. This is not what your looking for for in-depth info, its more of a technical engineers manual if anything with hardly any info on DVD-A or SACD with very, very small articles on these topics. I has more charts and technical data on very scientific data that only an engineer can decipher. Its put out by the people at Sony and Philips and gives you the same info that you can get in a tech magazine. Save your money, its not worth it.

Book Description
Based on five years of in-depth investigation, this is a readable, concise summary of one of the largest research projects ever undertaken on a major city in a developing country. The book examines five key urban sectors--housing, transport, employment location, labor markets, and public finance--in the developing cities of Bogota and Cali, Colombia. After an initial overview of the study and its goals, Mohan goes on to set Bogota in its national urban and economic context and discusses such critical issues as income distribution, poverty, the characteristics of the labor force, labor force participation and earnings, women and the labor market, and social and spatial inequalities. With its abundance of quantitative information, coupled with a unique depth and breadth of coverage, this book makes an invaluable contribution to our understanding of the effect of policies and projects on developing countries.

Keep Far Away From this manga.......2007-08-29
Though being only slightly interesting this series is dull and un inspired.Only if because i was waiting for her to explain some plot, or what the awakening is and how it awakens. or how it could be Noriko. Or I don't know..if she was ever going to explain anything. I got to volume 4 and still didn't care about any of the characters nor did i understand this "political" crap side story the author adds in.
Noriko is your typical damsel in distress and the names of the characters couldn't be dumber. It's tired, it's been done better. and besides the characters not being able to communicate in the begining (which how this is a plus i can barely understand) THERE IS NO INNOVATION.
this story is as boring as it's undistinguishable lead characters. if i don't care after FOUR volumes...you know a story is lacking something...like real heart or genuine interest.
A good story, for younger readers.......2007-03-04
This is a review to express my feeling after having completed the 14 volume series.
I picked up this manga b/c I was having Red River withdrawal, and thought I'd give another 'teleport to a distanct country/time/place' manga a try.
The reason I'm giving this manga 4 starts instead of three is because as a story, this is well written and despite being disappointed by the lack of 'romance' in a manga that's labeled shoujo... I did enjoy it. As a fantasy/action story, this one was rather refreshing. The main heroine doesn't annoy me like so many 'virginal' pure manga heroines do, she does her best to be strong throughout and isn't self-absorbed or whiney, and you just have to love the main hero of the story. His predicament reminds me a lot of The Violinist of Hameln, raging demon on the inside that if he doesn't learn to control, will consume him, etc... The villains were pretty well done as well. Gotta love those cute lil' Chimos hehe.
For me tho, I wanted to see more development in the relationship between Noriko and Izark, there just wasn't enough romance for me to be satisfied. I was expecting even a KISS at the end or something... major dissapointment there... I can count the number of times Izark kissed Noriko on one hand throughout all fourteen volumes. I would recommend this for a younger reader, but if you are like me- (you enjoy a bit of fantasy and would rather search after a mature + label) I would recommend Red River instead.
Greetings From Far Away- An Overview of the Entire Series.......2007-01-20
Viz's Shoujo imprint has some of the best epic fantasy/romance manga on the market. From Far Away is comparable to series like Red River, Basara, and Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden in that they focus on the lives and loves of young women with great and often seemingly tragic destinies. I dearly love the above mentioned series, and since From Far Away has recently concluded its English language release, I'll tell you how it stacks up in comparison.
At the heart of From Far Away is a beauty and beast love story set in a fantasy world. The beauty is Noriko Tachiki, a spacey high schooler whose brush with death sends her hurtling through time and space to an alternate dimension. She is the Awakening, a ominous person spoken about in legend who will herald a disastrous time for this new land. The beast is Izark Kia Taj, a handsome, stand-offish mercenary with a terrible fate. He harbors the Sky Demon within himself, which will consume him when he comes in contact with the Awakening. As political turmoil and civil unrest engulf the land, powerful men would stop at nothing to claim the Sky Demon's power for themselves.
The characterization is perhaps the best aspect of From Far Away. Noriko manages to get her act together fairly quickly, and evolves into a plucky, resourceful heroine. Izark, of course, learns about love and stuff. There rather slowly unfolding romance is responsible for the best scenes in this series and any other shoujo comic I have read thus far. Of course, over the course of their journey to break their fates, they meet a colorful cast of side-characters. Another admirable aspect of From Far Away is the way the artist portrays people that otherwise wouldn't be portrayed as heroic as heroes. From a stout middle-aged woman with wisdom and nerves of steel to an aging political administrator, likable side characters drift in and out of the story.
However, the political storyline is the weakest aspect and it shares nearly as much face time as the character interactions. Of course, there is a crew of villains who want Izark and Noriko for their own nefarious purposes. The villains are never particularly well-developed and come across as being crazy evil for the flimsiest of reasons. The political situation of the world was never particularly interesting from the get-go but it is continuously developed throughout the story without ever managing to spark one iota of interest. Indeed, From Far Away stumbles by cementing Noriko and Izark as a couple way to soon. By volume 9, they are pretty much dedicated to each other and they don't have anywhere to go as characters. This leaves five volumes for the uninteresting political storyline to take center stage. Honestly, by the time the final volume was published, I was so sick of the good vs. evil storyline it almost didn't pick it up.
Overall, From Far Away is a series that went on too long. I don't think it helps that it is an acquired taste. After going back over the entire thing, I find it hard to believe that I followed it until the end because the first two volumes are dreadful. I have fond memories of many parts from the middle of the series, and I wouldn't hesitant to recommend it to younger girls that aren't mature enough to handle other shoujo epics like Basara and Red River. However, this just isn't a story that will endure multiple readings.
actually.......2007-01-14
I had actually read this story in another form (with different charaters*) and wanted to see how that story stayed true to form... and it did and i love it... i will have to find a husband who can afford my manga habit...Hey, there are worse habits.... i recommend this manga to all who read manga...
Great artwork!.......2006-08-27
This is one of my favorite manga. I love the artwork. It's beautiful! The storyline is a fantasy with a little romance thrown in. The lead female character is helpless alot so that kind of bugs me but then sometimes, very seldom, she is fearless. The lead male character is cool! A great read! This manga is 14 volumes. The end is almost here, I can't wait to see how it finishes up.
Book Description
Paperback book and CD set. Effortless Mastery: Liberating the Master Musician Within is a book for any musician who finds themselves having reached a plateau in their development. Werner, a masterful jazz pianist in his own right, uses his own life story and experiences to explore the barriers to creativity and mastery of music, and in the process reveals that "Mastery is available to everyone," providing practical, detailed ways to move towards greater confidence and proficiency in any endeavor. While Werner is a musician, the concepts presented are for every profession or life-style where there is a need for free-flowing, effortless thinking. Book also includes an audio CD of meditations narrated by Kenny to help the musician reach a place of relaxed focus.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book for what Ails you.......2007-09-23
The ideas in this book about self-awareness and practicing music are so profound -- and so true -- I've read this book three times this year.
Werner describes the thought process behind becoming a jazz musician. No one has previously described the mental pitfalls and hangups more clearly, sometimes it's like he has transcribed dialogue from ones own head. This book has made a difference in my playing and outlook, and for some of my friends.
For these reasons, I can't recommend this book enough (even if I disagree with him that meditation is the primary solution to the problems he describes).
Effortless Redundancy.......2007-08-29
In my estimation, this is not a book for anyone who is struggling with how to develop a clear method for practicing the piano or any instrument. In fact, book seems to be more focused upon Mr. Werner's ideological views about society than with the real issues of serious piano practice. For instance, he spends several paragraphs discussing the downfall of society as a result of women being able to use pain killers during child birth and humans being able to eat canned peaches. Then he makes some offhand comment about menopause. One begins to wonder whether this man has serious issues of his own and should be therapy. The bottom line is the book is extremely redundant and is of no help. I wouldn't recommend this book to any of my students as it would be a complete waste of their time. This book is really nothing more than a reflection of Kenny's stream of consciousness: a submerged mysogynistic and puritanical view of society that would have been better served if humans had not discovered the benefits of technology.
If a student really wants to become a master, then he or she should study the harmonic form of the piece and immerse oneself in the beauty of that experience. As Webern said, "your ears may tell you where you're going, but you have to know why."
Everyone should read this book.......2007-08-05
Even though, as a previous reviewer has noted, many of these truths should be self-evident, we forget them often. If nothing else as a reminder of what we already know, this book is a gem.
I would recommend this book for any musician.
Calling All Serious Muscians.......2007-07-18
This book is simply and profoundly inspirational. I've already noted a positive shift in my perspective towards my playing and improvising. If you are serious about your music and want deepen your musical and spiritual practice, I would highly suggest reading this book over and over!
Highly recommended for musicians of any instrument or style.......2007-07-12
I'm a drummer, and although Kenny is a pianist, the principles still applied.
He's a jazz man, and I prefer and play Rock, but his message still propels me to recommend this book. The only reason I rated 4 instead of 5 stars, is that I am Christian, and some of his "lessons" will definitely conflict with that faith. Disregard those passages, and you're still left with awesome material to internalize, and learn from.

Book Description
Kokopelli the flute player is one of the most popular icons that American culture has adopted from the Native peoples of North America. The Kokopelli name and image are everywhere, adorning everything from jewelry, welcome mats, T-shirts, and money clips to motels, freeway underpasses, nature trails, nightclubs, and string quartets. Kokopelli evokes mystery and wonder, ancient ceremonies and spirituality, Mother Earth and the purity of nature.
But what exactly is Kokopelli? Just how Native American is this ubiquitous flute player? In this fascinating book, the distinguished scholar of Hopi culture and history Ekkehart Malotki describes the development of the Kokopelli phenomenon in American mass culture from its beginning to Kokopelli’s present status as pan-Southwestern icon. He explores the figure’s connections with the Hopi kachina god Kookopölö and Maahu, the cicada, and discusses how this rock-art image has been appropriated and misunderstood. Kokopelli sheds light on a little-understood aspect of Hopi culture and testifies to the continuing power of Native cultures to spark the popular imagination and interest of outsiders.
Customer Reviews:
The Definitive Kokopelli.......2000-12-30
This is the definitive book on the phenomenon. If you want a discussion of the real "Kokopelli" rather than a compendium of fanciful and spurious "new age" ideas, this work provides that and more. Along the way you will gain interesting insights into Hopi culture, and how the Kokopelli phemomenon may have started and grown. Nicely illustrated.
Customer Reviews:
not as good as the original - but a hard act to follow.......2001-07-24
Let's face it, for most of us who grew up playing D&D 20 odd years ago, the Keep on the Borderlands was the first adventure we all played. I was really looking forward to this re-write because i'd played the original so many times my PC's knew it back to front: eg, (DM)"you see a pair of shapely legs around the corner" - (PC)"look out, it's that Medusa again!!". So taking your players through this adventure is certainly a surprise for returning players. The background of the keep and recent developments in the area are great additions to the original module. Criticisms are that it is a bit too hard for 1st level players, and the silly Minotaur maze which somehow got excavated within the existing caves without anyone noticing. I just ommited that part entirely. In summary, a good game but not as good as the original.
Excellent ! - with a few simple corrections........2000-06-27
Extremely fun to play! I highly recommend this for experienced and novice player alike. "AD&D Silver Anniversary, Return to the Keep on the Borderlands Adventure", is a particularly well done rewrite of the classic original. The keep itself is described in plentiful detail, including numerous NPC descriptions. The area immediately surrounding the Keep is also well described with more than enough potential encounters to keep your players busy for quite some time. And the description of the Caves of Chaos, just a hop from the Keep, is very well written and an enjoyable read. This adventure module is certain to provide many sessions of fun and challenging play, and is definitely worth the money.
There are a few problems, however, which is why this only gets a 4 star review. First, the artwork dispersed amongst the text is pathetic. But that's a minor issue. More importantly, there are several inconsistencies that old Greyhawkers will surely notice. For instance, the location is not quite right, and the background for a few NPCs strongly conflicts with Greyhawk history. Additionally, a few of the potential encounters could easily wipe out a low level party, leaving all characters dead, or severely injured (missing limbs, etc.). Fortunately for you and me, some individuals were kind enough to publish "fixes" for the Return to the Keep on the Borderlands. The article is in an on-line journal called the Oerth Journal. It is a Greyhawk journal where DMs (and players, I suppose) write articles about Greyhawk. In the most recent issue, someone modified the new Keep on the Borderlands to make it a bit more survivable for low level characters, and to fit with actual Greyhawk canon material. No, it does not contain the complete module, that would be illegal, only suggested re-writes for a few paragraphs, and a great suggestion for more appropriate placement of the Keep in the World of Greyhawk.
The URL for the site is: http://members.xoom.com/cogh/ This is the Council of Greyhawk website. The Oerth Journal that has this article is OJ#11
With the corrections in this article this module would easily receive a 5 star rating, with out hesitation. As I stated, I strongly recommend you purchase this most excellent Adventure Module, sure to be enjoyable for months. And stop by the above mentioned web site to obtain the few fixes that will make this module truly outstanding!
Enjoy the Chaos!
It's good, not great, but good.......2000-06-22
"Return to the Keep on the Borderlands" is a good, challenging adventure. Being a reformation of the original adventure that came with the original boxed set of the D&D game, it helps new gamemasters at their craft.
However, Yeomary was one region I needed more detail on, but the detail about the keep wasn't lacking at all.
It's a challenging adventure for player characters played by dungeon hackers, but those players who wants a great plot will have to depend on the DM to provide it.
Other than that, the adventure is awesome. And this is coming from a guy who started roleplaying in D&D at age twelve (1986). I highly reccomend it to any one who wants a good night of casual play.
Out of place in todays market.......2000-06-14
So much could happen in a keep on the borderlands, and to the books cridit it describes the keep itself quite well, as well as a few of the local dangers (i.e. bandits and Gnolls).
Where this book really falls down though is in the caves (where much of the adventuring will take place), each one is just a poor dungeon crawl, with the main motivation being pest extermination.
Despite supposedly being set in Yeomanry, there is no detail whatsoever about the region.
Whilst this kind of adventuring might be some peoples cup of tea, if you dont like sterile dungeon hacks then avoid this product.
Days of old returned!.......2000-03-01
When the Known World was first created it took more than 7 days. Here we are now 30 years later, and it is amazing to look back and see the early days. 'Return' is a job well done. It reflects well on the original setting, and provides a good foundation for new DMs and PCs. Some of us might wish we had such a wealth of information back in 74, but then we couldn't enjoy it as much now if we did. My advise to new DMs is to sit down, some place comfortable with a drink of your choice, and just read through it cover to cover. Have some post it notes with you and mark the areas that you want to go back to later. Don't rush yourself. This is a campaign that both you and your players can enjoy for months to come.
