5 out of 5 stars This is the book math majors have been searching for!!!!!!!!.......1999-06-08

As a recent graduate with a math degree this is the book I have been searching for. This is the only book you should need. It covers the interview, cover letters, resumes, networking and everything else. All other books on this subject limit discussion to education majors and jobs. This book does the same but gives equal treatment to those who seek jobs with math as a primary skill. It has hints for everything you could imagine. Gives lists of job titles and many job discriptions. Also gives some contact information for organizations that will be of help or interest to anyone looking for employment using their math degree. Once again, this is a must buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book tells the inside story of the Colt Firearms Company strike in Hartford, Connecticut-a five-year dispute that ended when workers bought the company and put themselves back to work. Through surveys and interviews with workers and managers throughout the crisis, the author documents the rapid evolution of the participants` beliefs about fairness, opportunity, redistribution, and the importance of government.

        4 out of 5 stars DIlbert Continues.......2007-04-16

Recent developments in the world of offices and business are not as much reflected here as I would have liked to see. One of the things that Dilbert captured so brilliantly in the past was up-to-the-minute developments and trends in office work, and that's not as much in evidence here, I'm afraid.

There are some funny days, but mostly I just look at the date...

        5 out of 5 stars Successful gift.......2007-02-16

Gave this to my co-worker. She loves it. It sits on her desk and gives her much needed humor to get on with the workdays.

5 out of 5 stars How does he do it?.......2007-02-16

How is it that every business has a PHB, a Dilbert & a Wally? Scott Adams has the ability to reflect current events as well as the Daily Grind. Will the PHB's of the world ever understand business is NOT supposed to work like this instead of doing EXACTLY what Dilbert's PHB does?

It is no wonder that business leaders have a bad rep when they continue to give Scott new fodder every day.

        5 out of 5 stars A must-have cube accessory.......2007-02-10

Anyone who spends 40 hours a week in a 6'x8' cube sometimes needs a daily refresher that points the inane and rediculous aspects of work.

        5 out of 5 stars laugh a day.......2007-02-07

Jolly funny my day wouldn't be the same without it. Being from the UK it was a shame I had to order it from the US where it took less than a week to arrive instead of waiting six to eight weeks to arrive if I ordered it from the UK.

        Book Description

"Daylle Deanna Schwartz has conveniently packaged all you need to know to start your own record label in a very reader-friendly new edition. What took me over ten years to learn the hard way has been easily explained in Start & Run Your Own Record Label. If you're thinking about competing in the often-treacherous world of independent record labels, arm yourself with this book." - RYAN KUPER, Redemption Records

In its first edition, Start and Run Your Own Record Label was an authoritative resource for anyone who ever dreamt of building their own record business from the ground up. Comprehensive, informative, practical, and accessible, the book covered every aspect of setting up, owning, and operating a record label.

Since the publication of that edition, the music industry has witnessed a new era for independent record labels. While not profoundly different, new technology has made it easier and more affordable for practically anyone to record their own music at home and to sell it online and at performances. As a result, increasingly more musicians are finding it easier to achieve their musical goals.

In the Updated and Expanded edition, new chapters are included to address such issues as resources for the business end of running a record label, getting exposure, exploring alternative markets for all genres of music, and maximizing the use of the Internet. In addition, all chapters are rewritten and more interviews with cutting edge experts on today's music market have been added.

5 out of 5 stars The story of my brother's life.......2007-09-11

I actually purchased this book for my brother who has an underground record label, going on about 5 years (?). He said it's absolutely amazing and that he can relate to most of the things that are covered. It has a lot of great suggestions and views on running a pre-existing record label and even starting one from scratch. He has learned a lot of legal issues too that he's taken care of and this is the only book I ever recall seeing him open! And he read it in 2 days!

4 out of 5 stars Getting The Basics Down.......2007-08-07

I found this book to be an excellent resource just coming into the music business. It teaches a lot of the basic concepts in starting and running a record label. The book and specifically, the music publishing deals and distribution information, helped me to get a better understanding of how the business works. I would have liked to see a little more detailed information on signing an artist, but that maybe a little too much for a basic book. Good shelf keeper

3 out of 5 stars I was hoping for more.......2007-07-26

If you know absolutley nothing about the music business and have never read a book about it, this is a good starting book. I was hoping for more figures though. There's not enough step by step diagnosis. It's more of a review of the different aspects of label promotion, signing, etc...

5 out of 5 stars An inspiration to Dave Roberge, founder of Everfine Records.......2007-06-01

After studying this one, I learned that Dave Roberge, manager of O.A.R. & founder of Everfine Records, found this book to be useful to him when he started his indie, which became enormously successful.

At times, Dayelle writes about self-evident common sense but, it's still a 5 star book.

        3 out of 5 stars Pretty good..........2007-05-18

I read it and would love to start my own label, but unfortunately, I won't be doing it anytime soon. Good advice, though.

        Book Description

Although strong and relentless, Batman has no super powers. Instead he relies on Sherlock Holmes-like abilities of deduction and detection. Forensic Files of Batman features two dozen entries from Batman's Case Files. Most are written by Batman himself, but two are from Police Commissioner Gordon, and there are a couple of other entries from Batman's right hand man, Alfred the butler. Cases range from the puzzling to the bizarre, and feature such classic Batman villains as The Joker, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Two-Face. Interspersed among the Case File reports are sidebars that explain the specific kinds of forensic science that Batman uses to solve his cases.

        Customer Reviews:

        4 out of 5 stars Super Reader.......2007-08-07

If you look at the bibliography, you will see that this is not your standard type of Batman book. In fact, this could almost be about any character, barring the being rich, having a Butler, a cape, and a very brief encounter with The Scarecrow, and Catwoman. These are all detailed as notes in Case Files, not as stanard fictional third or first person stories, however.

It is set in the Year One to Year Two time, before he is working with Grayson.

Basically, it is hardcore explanation of forensic crime fighting details, with serious levels of scientific detail. Think, CSI, but not cheesy tv-pseudo-science rubbish. Very interesting. In fact, one of the characters is one of these sort of techs, and a forensic anthropologist makes some appearances, as does a coroner, multiple times. So if you are a little squeamish about slicing and dicing dead bodies, you would want to avoid this.

I would recommend this to people who are interested in that sort of thing, in general. If you inserted Detective John Smith here, there would not be too much difference, so those after superheroic crimefighting quite possibly would be disappointed, and shouldn't buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Great book when it isn't a text book.......2006-08-26

The Forensic Files of Batman is about an equal mix of good and bad. When the book is telling a story where Batman uses forensic science it is amazing. When the book just spins its wheels about forensics it feels like Moench has just been cutting and pasting out of a text book.

The book is organized as different journals written by Batman, a young Bruce Wayne, Alfred and Jim Gordon. The Batman stories are well written with a great balance of science and story. Not only are these stories great, but the final story of the book is also one of the best Batman stories ever told. The young Bruce Wayne stories are the most informative, but all they do is educate with no story. They are just lists or long winded passages about forensics. They also have a childish tone that matches Bruce's age, but not of the overall book. The Alfred and Gordon chapters are great. Each of them allows the reader to watch Batman work without being in his head and make very interesting additions.

Overall, when this book is doing what it should it is great. It allows Batman to fight crime with just his brain and really shows that he has earned the title detective.

5 out of 5 stars As if written by the Batman...........2006-05-16

A very well-written, fun look into the world of the Dark Knight Detective, with an emphasis on the last part of that description. I think this book really captured the voice and perspective of the Batman, while at the same time playing into the interest in forensics brought on by CSI and similar shows. Any fan of either would be well-served to purchase this.

5 out of 5 stars Makes Batman come to life in a whole new way.......2006-03-17

This book is not a graphic novel that supplies illustration to the events that take place. Rather, this is a novel that provides insight into the thorough steps Batman takes to retain the title of "World's Greatest Detective."

Written as case files, there is a detailed explanation as to how Batman gathers evidence and draws conclusion. Using the latest methods of criminologists and other crime scene investigators, Batman must make a case that will definitively prove that a criminal is guilty.

The book also provides a more detailed look at forensic science as a practice today. Even Batman benefits from the advances in knowledge of forensics, ballistics, and other "crime" sciences. If you have an interest in history of unusual subjects, another cool aspect of this book is the introduction to criminology and how it has developed over the years.

What also connects in this book is the effectiveness with which the superhero mythos can seem so tangible, anchored in the mechanics of the real world. Batman seems just like a detective in everyday life, adamantly combing over a crime scene to catch a killer. This book thus serves to bring
Batman to life in a whole new way. I love it when people can make fantasy seem so real and feasible. This book rocks!

5 out of 5 stars Great, but unconventional Batman book..........2006-01-14

"Forensic Files of Batman" truly is an entertaining read. People often forget about Batman's intelligence, overfocusing on the action elements of the Dark Knight genre. While some readers and reviewers are nitpicking on little details (e.g. Commissioner Gordon still working, no mention of Robin, etc.), this book is meant for all, not just diehard fans. If you like good detective short stories or are a general Batman fan, this book is for you.

4 out of 5 stars A must buy for player who use the Pirc Defense.......1999-09-20

This book is a must buy for tournament players who play the Pirc. Having gone through parts of this book I found the use to be typical for standard opening books. Although you have an obligitory introduction to each section that involves text, I found the conclusions to be fair, honest and reasonably thorough. What set the book apart from the rest is that it is from John Nunn. I feel that I can trust his opinions given his past work. It would have been nice and indeed enlightning, if John Nunn put in more text.

        Book Description

MCSA/MCSE 70-291 Exam Cram, Second Edition is the #1 quick-study guide to passing the MCSA/MCSE 70-291 exam. This book covers all exam objectives, including how to maintain a DHCP server, manage name resolution with DNS, secure networks using IPSec, troubleshoot network and Internet connectivity, and monitor network traffic. This new edition also includes two full practice exams and has been updated against Microsoft's official courseware (MOC) that corresponds to this exam.

This book will provide a refresher on important concepts and help you build on a solid foundation of knowledge on exam topics and objectives. The book also features test-taking strategies, time-saving study tips, and a special Cram Sheet that includes tips, acronyms, and memory joggers not available anywhere else.

5 out of 5 stars Great study guide.......2007-06-26

I found that the book is a great study guide. I would not recommend it for someone who does not have any experience with the server software, but I found it beneficial as a refresher course and to help me in some of my weaker areas. Several people noted that the unique registration code is expired, mine was too, but all I had to do was send an e-mail to MeasureUp support and just explain the situation and they unlocked the code for me.

3 out of 5 stars What! The registration code has expired!.......2007-06-10

I was a little disappointed to discover the unique registration code had expired 8 days before I had received the book.

This book is more of an outline and review of the materials covered on the 70-291 exam. I believe this book would only be beneficial to individuals who have experience with managing a Windows Server 2003 network and who need a quick review prior to taking the exam.

If you are inexperienced with managing DNS, DHCP, or RRAS, this book would be of little value: It is not a reference book.

Another compliant I have is the practice questions in this book are not similar to the questions on the exam. The questions on the exam are much more difficult.

The only positive comment I have about this book is it's format is well organized. Each objective is laid out by chapter. This book is definately better organized than the MSCA Self Paced Training Kit from Microsoft Publishing.

Overall, I am giving this book a rating of 3 stars.

        1 out of 5 stars Practice Exams?.......2007-06-09

The practice exams are just printed in the back of the book. There is no CD or download, all you get is a registration code for their website that has already expired; but, their website will gladly sell you the practice exams. This is inexcusable. The book is okay on it's own, but I don't see anyone passing 70-291 with just this guide.

5 out of 5 stars An Exam Cram, Not a Reference Book.......2007-03-10

As the title of the book says, this is an Exam Cram book. Its intent, it's sole intent, is to teach you how to pass the Exam 70-291 test on Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure. It is probably best suited for a person with some experience running Server 2003 already but who wants to pick up all the messy little details that are going to be asked on the exam.

To help you along, there are two practice exams, with answers and explanations. The book also has a Registration Key so you can go on line to MeasureUp and go through their on line questions as well. If you then want to take their test on line, there is a 20% discount off of the price.

Don't start here if you've never worked with Server before, it isn't enough of reference book to do that, it's purely an exam cram, just like it says.

        5 out of 5 stars Just Passed.......2007-02-23

I bought the book and went through it in just over a week. The text did a great job breaking down the exam into sections and giving you the key information with regards to that section. I would not suggest this book to someone with little or no server experience because it does not go into great detail about any one topic, however if you've been working in a Server 2003 environment for a while and are used to using and administering DHCP, DNS, RRAS, and IPSec than this book is great for learning the intricacies that Microsoft asks on the test. The exam questions offered in this book are by no means brain dump questions but they did a great job covering everything I saw on the exam today and then some. The only thing it doesn't give you is practice with the simulations but I guess that's the whole point of the sims.
