        4 out of 5 stars price guide.......2007-06-14

Some prices are above what they actually sell for (priced too high) well some prices are below market on EBAY anyway.
Also they need to expand some area's such as Harmony,Yamaha,Taylor and Blueridge, excellent overall guide to Acoustic Guitars aand there prices.
Blue book has set the standard for all.
They do an excellent job on Gibson and Martin both but too little info on small names.
Maybe i should write a book of Yamaha Acoustic Guitars?
These are very popular on EBAY and are considered the poor man's Martin, which includes me by the way.
Good amount on the history of companies that Manufacture Guitars which i find interesting, facts most people do not know or realize.
Gives buyer's the uphand on what price to pay for what condition,as well as an very good examples shown in pictures.
I would rate this a 5 but there is too much info missing in there guide which forces me to use several.I wish some day they could make this more complete so i only need to buy one.But otherwise i depend on it.
If you do not own this you are either a genius with one of the best memories on this planet or you are operating in the dark ages.

5 out of 5 stars Great gift for that Guitar Buff.......2006-03-18

My Friend has an addiction to guitars so I purchased this book as a birthday gift three days ago and he hasn't put it down. Great book, very informative and apparently addictive too.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this book.......2005-12-28

I use this book along with the Blue Book of Electric Guitars from the same publisher as a reference and starting point to price vintage guitars to purchase for my collection. I have found this book to be an excellent source for model information as well as a price point reference. I am not sure I would wish to venture into this collecting field without a reference such as this. I highly recommend both books to anyone interested in buying or selling a vintage guitar.

        4 out of 5 stars Comprehensive book.......2002-05-18

The book is fairly comprehensive and has an adequate description of the guitars and features. Some guitars are not listed, and some of the models are hard to look up when a company makes a wide variety of models. The book seems to get superseded pretty quickly but is much cheaper than some of the other guides out there. Hopefuly the book is accurate, since it lists an imported Ovation guitar as having a solid top when most of those models are known to have plywood tops. If you buy the book on CD, the user interface is awkward.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR COLLECTORS OR TRADERS`.......1999-05-15

I DO ALOT OF BUYING/SELLING/TRADING, AND THIS BOOK HAS KEPT ME FROM MAKING MISTAKES AND HAS HELPED ME SCORE SOME PRETTY GOOD DEALS. I RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY.

The seventies are backon television (That Seventies Show is a popu- lar new sitcom), on Broadway (Saturday Night Fever is a smash hit), and on the street where you live (did you notice those kids wearing bell bottoms at the bus stop this morning?). Now in paperback: the retrospective of the events, people, and ideas that characterized one of the most colourfull and turbulent decades in North American life. With more than one hundred evocative images by noted photographers and artists, The Seventies combines great images, great writing, and solid history.

5 out of 5 stars Life In The 70's.......2001-12-28

Rolling Stone magazine was founded in 1967 and born of the ideas of the counterculture. But the magazine hit its stride and became cultural significant in the 70's. This book is a great review of the decade detailing everything from Nixon to Springsteen to disco to All in The Family to the emergence of porn and casual sex. Writers from Rolling Stone like Hunter S. Thompson detailing how gonzo journalism was conceived (and in his words, never truly achieved), founder and editor Jann Wenner on the man behind the infamous Pentagon Papers and others are excellent, but it is the contributions for others not necessarily associated with the magazine that hit the mark. The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde was a student at Kent State and gives a first person of what happened when the National Guardsmen killed four students. Tom Wolfe expouses on radical chic and the stories about the emergence of Soul Train, the deaths at a Who concert in Cincinnati, the Saturday Night Fever and disco explosion, Bruce Springsteen and Al Trautwig's essay on Julius "Dr. J' Erving are all superb. The book's left-hand margin contains a running timeline that note important and relevant events of the decade in chronological order. This book is an immensely satisfying, enjoyable and informative read.

When future archeologists pick apart the 1970s in America, due reverence will be paid, no doubt, to blaxploitation films, Watergate, gun-toting million-heiress Patty Hearst and her Symbionese Liberation Army pals, the finer points of the Hustle, and the collision between imported punk rock and U.S. hip-hop. Meantime, Rolling Stone--the quasi-music magazine that put its impudent stamp on that decade--has turned in a hip and heady timeline of those days of yore. Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) weighs in on the birth of Gonzo journalism, his peculiar brand of drug-driven, paranoid, and often inspired ravings that turned cultural and political reportage into mental pinball. American Indian Movement leader Russell Means recalls surviving three blizzards and "more than five million rounds of ammunition" aimed at the Native Americans who held the South Dakota village of Wounded Knee. Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders writes about her freshman year at Kent State University in Ohio when the National Guard opened fire on students protesting the Vietnam War and killed four. On alternate pages, a column chronicles such momentous events as the FDA ban of the potentially carcinogenic dye that gave us red M&Ms; John Travolta's smash hit Grease; and the prescient pardon bestowed on former President Nixon for "all federal crimes he may have committed," although he had not yet been charged with any. Though far more entertaining than intellectual, Rolling Stone: The '70s is a wondrous revival of a sandwich decade sometimes marked off as a wasteland. --Francesca Coltrera

5 out of 5 stars Seventy essays on that decade.......2004-04-11

The wild, disillusioning, violent, and tragic face of the 1970's is covered in seventy (how apropos!) essays ranging from writers, entertainers, journalists, people connected with the entertainment industry, and more. Together, they bring about an exhaustively covered retrospective composite of that decade.

Self-expression and the alarming gung-hoism of the US is recounted by Chrissie Hynde, who was a freshman at Kent State on that fateful day in 1970. To her, it was "inexperienced people put in chrage of events they didn't know how to handle," but she lists Sinead O'Connor being booed by Dylan fans for her political slap at the pope on TV, realizing how self-expression has become suppressed in the name of patriotism.

The redemption of the South is told in essays about the resurgence of Southern rock, e.g. the Allman Brothers, and Jimmy Carter's winning the Oval Office. His advisor Hamilton Jordan defends Carter by his tackling tough issues Nixon or Ford refused to touch, such as the Panama Canal treaty, SALT, and the Middle East peace process, but was sunk by bad luck (the price of oil, the shah's ouster).

Nothing new is revealed in Dan Rather's essay on Watergate. Yes, that scandal fostered a deep cynicism and skepticism in journalism and among the people in politics. It was the American people who decided Nixon's fate, but the legacy of that is what do people do when confronted with similar guilt from a politician or celebrity? Do they want objective truth, or do they want something splashed out sensationalistically, with a "gate" suffix attached?

The music acts/artists covered here are David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac. The portion covering the Eagles is an interview with Don Henley and Glenn Frey, and something Henley said struck me as embodying what the 70's was. Henley lists the 70's as an attitude of disillusionment that the love-one-another ideal of the 60's didn't pan out and how a self-centered, self-concerned, materialistic mindset arose from the late 70's. Still, Glenn Frey does argue that the 70's gave some great names in music.

Fleetwood Mac carved their name into rock legend status with Rumours, and the essay on them is written by Mick Fleetwood's ex-wife Jenny Boyd, who writes about the breakups and affairs that were going on during the making of the album and how they affected her personally.

The essay that really drew me was Mikal Gilmore on his reaction to his brother Gary Gilmore, who became the first men executed after the Supreme Court made capital punishment constitutional after years of review, and the ethics of life and death in the Karen Ann Quinlan case. And disabled veteran Ron Kovic's quote on Vietnam rings true today: "a war ain't over until you don't have to live with it anymore."

Film critic Peter Travers says he hates what Star Wars led to: the spate of sequelitis, cross-merchandise marketing, and soulless sci-fi movies like Starship Troopers. SW also rode the crest during a brief time (1976-1978) when it looked like things would be better, as Don Henley also thought. But it was also an escapist thriller, something needed after Vietnam and Watergate, something simpler, exciting, and yet innovative.

There's also a chronological timeline by day listed in the margins, listing events as groundbreaking as Nixon's resignation to what song and album were at the top of the Billboard charts and what were the year's biggest movies, albums, and books. Mostly a pop culture stance on the Me Decade, but with asides to issues still relevant today.

5 out of 5 stars A rich revival of the minds at work in the 70s.......1999-01-06

Rolling Stone the Seventies by Kahn et al. admirably distills the current and past thoughts of many of the influential 70s writers, and a range of participants from politicians to musicians. It is too bad there is no accompanying CD or CD-ROM to go along with the book.

The collection -- mostly essays and pictures, places the 70s in a nicely printed coffee table book. Marginal notes including timeline reference the dramatic movement through the decade. As a reference or a momentary revival of the period, the book provides content and layout that no other book contains.

5 out of 5 stars a serious yet entertaining look from the inside.......1998-12-10

I'd had about as much ironic 70's redux as I could take; maybe that's why this book was such a pleasure to read. That and the fact that it exceeded all expectations that the Rolling Stone imprimatur conferred. This is a collection of essays by people who were there and have something to say about what they saw. The perspective is intimate but the observations-- especially if you were a teenager then as I was-- are universal. Patty Hearst, Ali, Nam, Zep, Nixon, Evel Knievel, disco, Dr. J., it all came jumping off the page. Many of the decade's Who's Who-- Dan Rather, Chrissie Hynde (present at Kent State!), John Milius, Hamilton Jordan, Joan Baez-- are not just subjects; they're essayists! Oh and by the way, the photos alone are worth the price of the entire book.

As informative as anything I read as an Ivy League history major and as good company as my high school party pals. If you lived it or if you want to find out how we got where we are then you must read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Documentation of the 70s'.......1998-12-07

I seeked this book out for my mother (class of 78) and i found myself amazed at all the coverage the book had about her century. Each chapter was writen about each year and within those chapters you were filled with pictures quotes (from the people who lived the time) as well a time line (breaking down each current event within that year)!! It was so great i was caught on the train reading it and i was stopped by people who were breath taken from the pictures.

Its funny how the wheels where turned. I not only gave the book to my mother but i bought one for myself. At the moment i am still on the quest for searching more books like this, but ofcourse this time in my decade (90's)

I have about 10 robotics books, yet this one is my favorite. This one has complete parts lists for making cool sensors such as a 40 KhZ ultrasonic ranging system, arms and grippers, sound detection etc. Clean diagrams + complete parts lists. This book is very inspiring and will kick the robotics door wide open. Word! Well worth the list price of 18.95

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource but notice the publish date.......2000-10-26

As other reviews have commented, this book has a wealth of information on robotic systems and explained in a way that makes it very available to a beginner but with enough detail for the expert.

However, note that the book was published in 1987. There were not any microcontrollers for the hobbiest at the time (the computers quoted in the book are Apple IIe and IBM-PC clones).

If you want a good description of sensors and output systems, then this book is excellent, if you want information about programable brains of robots, this book will not satisfy you.

                  Book Description

Learning to design objects effectively with C# is the goal of
Beginning C# Objects: From Concepts to Code - a comprehensive yet approachable guide to object oriented programming using UML and today's hottest programming language, which is C#.

This book is a guide for anyone wanting to learn the C# language, beginning with the basics. It offers example case studies for those already familiar with C# that may prove useful. Presents object terminology and concepts, how to think in terms of objects, an introduction of object modeling, translating an object model into C#, and more. This book is written with programmers and also programming tutorials in mind, and is a natural candidate for academic selection for the teaching of C# and principled object-oriented programming.

Time and again, software developers have attempted to master an OO programming language like Java by taking a course in Java, or by reading a book in Java, or by acquiring and using a Java integrated development environment (IDE) tool such as Forte, or Visual Café, or JBuilder, or Power J, or Kawa. However, there is something fundamentally missing: a basic understanding of what objects are all about, and more importantly, knowledge of how to structure a software application from the ground up to make the most of objects.

4 out of 5 stars Good for those new to Object Oriented Programming.......2007-03-13

I just finished reading B.C#O.F.C.t.C and it is about the 5th C# book I've read as I try to restart my programming skills (VB5 last tool really used) with C# and .NET.

This book is a very good starting place for those who are new to Object Oriented Programming (OOP) and who want to start developing a strong OOP mindset. Being that I had a sorta-OOP background with VB5, some of the stuff was a rehash, but I think a person totally unfamiliar with these concepts would find the introductory pace helpful and properly paced. Plus the authors strong bias towards how to design (and reconsider/redesign) your classes with business needs in mind and good OOP design methods will well serve such readers into their later experiences.

The C# language introduction is acceptable as long as one understands you are giving up some in depth training (it is a beginning book after all) for the extra emphasis the authors put on OOP design (e.g. the cover UML diagrams while most other C# books barely touch on such design tools/notations).

The example they build out throughout the book (a Student Class Registration program) I found completely uninteresting and that made me prone to skim the code examples, not really thinking them through as I think you need to do to learn from these types of books. I can see why the authors selected such an example when they are explicit about their intention for the book to be useful to college classes in computer science departments. I also see the pros for an example that is built upon bit by bit over the course of the book. But for me, the large structure interferred with my ability to focus on my areas of interest.

In short, a very good book for those coming fresh to C# and OOP, but if you like me have exposure to either, you're probably better off with two books (e.g. Jesse Liberty's C# programming books from O'Reilly for C#, OOP + UML book for training on those items). I do agree with the authors that understanding how to take it from concept to code well means "thinking" OOP from the start. This books will probably help nurture many OOP neophytes into such expert OOP C# developers.

2 out of 5 stars Good book but half the examples don't compile!!.......2006-07-30

The book seems nice at first but as you pass to chapter4 most of
his example programs don't compile, I get errors. Also the explanations are getting confusing. You can't assimilate all those
remarks for 1 line of code. The author surely try hard but
all the pics and explanations totally confused me. I won't go to chapter 5. I purchased this book & Learning C# 2005 from Oreilly. Oreilly has less examples but at least the example are clear and they compile without any errors.

5 out of 5 stars the book I was waiting for.......2006-03-29

I have just finished reading Beginning C# Objects from cover to cover and I must say it's the book that has been missing from the programming section in the book shops for a long time!

I love it and now feel more confident with my OO ability.

                  3 out of 5 stars Information Overload.......2006-02-27

First off I must say that the authors do an exemplary job at providing clear and concise explanations of object oriented programming. But, the readers who give this book 5 stars must possess an amazing ability to assimilate a huge amount of theoretical information (without applying any of it). Although I haven't gotten to the last page of the book I felt compelled to review the book at this time anyways. I have been through 600 pages of theory and pseudo code and I have yet to write a single line of C# code. Unfortunately - this is not my preferred approach to learning a programming language.

For those of you who prefer a bit of theory in manageable chunks followed a bit of hands on practice then this book is not for you. I can only hope that the last "hands on" section which I am about to tackle turns out to be valuable. Otherwise - it back to Internet tutorials and the like.
