It's Great.......2000-06-26
Creating Special Effects for TV and Video is a good primer on everything from action sequences to car crashes. Each section is split across two pages - half explanation and half diagrams providing very valuable information on almost every subject pertaining to special effects.

Also provided are episode summaries that detail special points such as interesting things to look for, plot problems, and the best lines. Other features include details about costar David Duchovny and the murky origins, mysterious mythology, and latest facts and rumors about The X-Files TV show.

Customer Reviews:
An average biography on an above average actress.......1998-11-17
Scully X-Posed is a fairly solid accounting of Gillian's Anderson's life, but not the best out there. It is rather loosely structured and has only a few black and white pictures. The reviews on the X-Files episodes in the back are funny and have some nice tidbits, but overall the book is just an average read.
A well made biography that shows what Scully is really like........1998-07-31
What can I say about this book? Well, I can certainly say that all you Gillianites and Scullyphiles out there who want to know more about the hardworking actress will want to read this book. Subtract one star for being unauthorized, though.
It is a light hearted biography of Andersons' life.......1998-07-09
I enjoyed the book immensely, until I read "The Anderson Files" by Shapiro, and I found that many of the sentences were used from Shapiro's book, and this author was rather repetitive, she kept stating the fact that Anderson and co-star Duchovny got along. I think it was a rather light hearted book. It was a good book the first time I read it, but after reading Shapiros book about her, it kind of seemed childish. I did like the fact that she went into detail about trips Anderson took, and that Anderson was a good mother. I also like the chapters about her childhood.
Interesting and entertaining, gives more then first thought.......1997-08-09
Although this book lacks color photos like in the other recent Gillian Anderson book "The Anderson Files: Gillian Anderson Xposed", I like this one better. The biography gives information you are likely to see in the other book or in magazine articles, but that's okay. Included in this book is an episode review of all four seasons, among other extra tidbits. I especially enjoy the episode reviews. The author wrote them in a playful, realistic way, implying their own feelings about the invidual episode, and bringing up points I hadn't realized. I'm glad I paid the expensive price for this book

Think of it as Drowfellas. Backstabbing and internecine intrigue abound as the ambitious members of a shady organization (in this case, the dark-elf mercenary band Bregan D'aerthe) vie for power, struggle to fend off reprisals, and generally cause all sorts of trouble. Themes of redemption and moral metamorphosis keep the plot moving, accompanied by intermittent bursts of spectacular, cinematic violence.
The Servant of the Shard, the immediate follow-up to The Spine of the World and The Silent Blade, is the long-awaited exposition on the history of Artemis Entreri. But perhaps more importantly, Servant of the Shard brings us the brilliant, bang-up pairing of master assassin Entreri and Bregan D'aerthe godfather Jarlaxle, filling out a deadly triangle with the bloodthirsty artifact Crenshinibon. (The rest--more magic items, tons of cool spells and psionics thanks to Rai-guy and Kimmuriel Oblodra, cameos from The Cleric Quintet, and a blow-out finale with an ancient red dragon--well, that's all just icing on the cake.)
The big question, which hopefully won't have to be asked again after this title: Can Bob Salvatore really pull off another Drizzt Do'Urden book without Drizzt? Without a doubt. Anybody who wasn't won over by the Wulfgar-centric Spine of the World should come away more than satisfied with The Servant of the Shard. Grumbling and hammer-hurling (courtesy of Wulfgar) might not be your thing, but Drizzt does have an equal in Entreri when it comes to perplexed introspection and predictably dazzling swordplay. If nothing else, Salvatore is merely collecting on investments he's made in his previous 17 Forgotten Realms novels--after laying such a strong foundation with solid plots and characterizations, it should come as no surprise that we're instantly sucked into a story that brings a couple of formerly supporting characters to front stage center. --Paul Hughes
Book Description
This is the latest offering from New York Times bestselling author R. A. Salvatore, best known for his immensely popular Forgotten Realms novels. In Servant of the Shard, Salvatore focuses on two of his greatest villains.
Having seized the Crystal Shard at the end of The Silent Blade, the dark elf Jarlaxle now struggles to control it. Grudgingly aided by the assassin Artemis Entreri, they must desperately look elsewhere for help before the gem destroys them and all that they worked for.
The Assassin
Surrounded by dark elves, Artemis Entreri tightens his grip on the streets of Calimport. While he urges caution, his black-skinned sponsor grows ever more ambitious. The assassin will soon find himself on a path his most hated enemy has walked before him--a path that leads to a place where someone like Entreri would never be welcome.
The Drow
Jarlaxle has ascended from dark Menzoberranzan with only evil intentions. The malevolent Crystal Shard’s influence on him intensifies until even the drow agents he brought with him grow fearful. When Bregan D’aerthe itself begins to turn on him, Jarlaxle will be forced to find a savior in the man he’s come to enslave.

Dealing with the Devil.......2006-09-10
3.5 stars
Salvatore and the readers continue the vacation from Drizzt which is really a good thing because Drizzt's story was effectively finished at the end of Sojourn, his growth done and his status turned to observer. Here we have a similar attempt to write a story without Salvatore's franchise character like Spine of the World, but done better.
In this work Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle expand Bregan Daerthe's reach onto the surface world via Calimport. One of the themes of the books seems to be the deals being made. Entreri's deal with Jarlaxle, Jarlaxle's with the Crystal Shard, Morik the Rogue's with Bregan Daerthe, various underlings of Bregan Daerthe and the thieves guilds with one another.
We get to see Jarlaxle come under the influence of the shard which subtly manipulates him to expand and expand and expand onto the surface causing his lieutenants to plot against him. Entreri also does not trust the shard, nor the lieutenants and devises a method to solve the problem on his terms.
A new halfling character in Calimport is introduced to become a confidant and friend to Entreri, and she is actually one of the bright spots of the book. It would be nice to see more of her in the future. Cadderly and Danica also appear, bring resolution to one plot line that has long needed resolution. Unfortunately the portrayal of Danica, and to a lesser extent Entreri, is abysmal during this section. Danica takes the time during a critical battle to destroy an evil artifact while separated from the party to engage in a fight to the death with Entreri because they experienced hate at first sight!? Monks are supposed to be disciplined, this is just crazy behavior.
In summary a nice break from the Drizzt stories, and an improvement upon the Spine of the World with a complex series of character relationships and betrayals but not as good as Salvatore's best.
A must read!.......2006-04-29
I could read all these books twice really. The whole series is by far the best adventure series ever! I read his first book 15 years ago the crystal shard. I looked that book up Last year to read it again 3/05 since then I have been addicted I have read every book he has wrote since all this year. the cleric Quintet That was also a must read if just for the dwarfs. Bob if you read this Thank you for all the great work!
Thanks again for the Very best adventure's
Magnanimous
Enticing.......2005-11-02
Servant of the Shard is absolutely amazing! I couldn't put it down. I even stopped listening in class because I couldn't ignore the thought of the book. Just like Rai-guy couldn't ignore the calling of the shard when it called to him.
Great Read.......2005-10-17
I was a bit put off by the fact that it wasnt following the companions as the others in the series but once i got into it this was a real hard to put down book. Cant wait to read the next in the series.
Less Drizzt, More fun.......2005-06-24
Starring two of Salvatore's best villains, Artemis and Jarlaxle, this book is full of fun.
To the dismay of his followers, Jarlaxle's band of drow, Bregan D'Aerthe, have secretly began moving out of the Underdark and into the city of Calimport. Some believe he is being manipulated by the powerful Crystal Shard, Crenshenibon, but no one knows for sure. Even Jarlaxle's close friend, the assassin Artemis Entreri, can't tell.
However, Artemis has plans of his own. He has set his eyes on Charon's Claw, the powerful weapon held by Kohrin Soulez.
All hell breaks lose when Jarlaxle's band turns against him. Jarlaxle and Artemis must team up to fight the likes of Rai-guy, Kimmuriel, and Berg'inyon - and ultimately to destroy the crystal shard itself.
This is one of Salvatore's funnest Forgotten Realms novels to date and perhaps his best since Homeland.

Another Book to Keep You Motivated for Outreach.......2004-06-07
I found the last half of this book much better than the first half. The fact is, this book is worth reading because it will keep you excited about outreach. The constant temptation for pastors is to get discouraged and stop doing outreach. Certainly we need to give people the Gospel. This goes far beyond just giving them a cold drink or hosting a party for them. But, in this day and age, we need things that will help us break through to people where they're at. We need things that will help us to become the biblical servants we are called to be. We've seen amazing changes in the people of our church since implementing various forms of servant evangelism. This book contains some great ideas, but more than that, it's encouraging, down-to-earth, and practical.
Paul Heier, pastor/author of Leading Out of Love
Wow!!!!!.......2001-07-01
This is one of those books that make me literally say, "WOW!!" I had no idea evangelism was so simple!! For anyone who hates or dislikes open street evangelism, I can reassure you that this book will change your attitude on outreaching. The focus of the book is centered around kindness and how it leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). It reveals some incredible testimonies as well as much Biblical truth on spiritual warfare. Anyone interested in spiritual warfare should read this book! (and perhaps Sjogren's other books).
Having been a former agnostic (Praise God I'm no longer one!), I have a very skeptical mindset. Initially, I was thinking to myself, how is this any different from 'organized niceness' like other nonprofit organizations? Fortunately we can see the difference between giving money randomly to a bum, and providing the same bum a meal as well as spending time with the bum. The key element here is definitely love. And the purpose of Servant Evangelism (or Warfare) is to show God's love in a practical way. For 5 bucks, THIS IS PROBABLY the best 5 bucks you'll ever spend! (Then again I get some impression that his latest book is better...and that's only 7 bucks =P) Anyway, to get a better understanding of this radical concept of Servant Evangelism, this book will illuminate the simplicity of evangelizing and it'll make it fun to do as well =) ...
Just When Kindness Seems Extinct...There's Steve Sjogren.......2000-04-05
Like The Conspiracy of Kindness, Servant Warfare challenges Christians to live a life that witnesses in love to world where kindness often goes unseen. While many books on evangelism seem intimidating and out of reach, Servant Warfare shows every Christian how they can reach the world they come in contact with everyday. How refreshing to read a book on evangelism that makes it all seem doeable. Steve Sjogren's interesting writing style and powerful ministry should inspire Christians everywhere to just live it!

Heroes are caught in the middle of a massive witch hunt, in which both the overzealous cleric conducting the inquisition and the witches he hunts bring terrible darkness to the land. A truly lovely book.......2007-05-30
This one was a lucky find in a shelf at a 2nd hand book store. You never know what you are going to get, and sometimes you get nothing special, and sometimes you get lucky. This book was so sweet.
This is a story of two tortured people who find salvation in loving each other. The hero, Greyston, is drowning his guilt and sorrow over the death of his wife. He drinks excessive amounts of gin and he is rude to everybody, even his loyal servants and friends. His tortures are more in his mind than anywhere else, but he is stuck in a very dark place.
Allegra's tortures are more real. She had a wretched childhood. Her family was betrayed and sold into servitude. All her family members died horrible deaths, and she swore to avenge them. She approaches Grey's manor with that in mind, but finds herself caught for poaching, and again pressed into servitude. She does her work well, and waits for her chance to continue with her quest, meanwhile fighting off Grey's nasty, bad-tempered advances.
But Grey is not really as cruel as he wants people to believe he is, and he never really hurts Allegra. With her help, he climbs out of his depression and finds a reason to rejoin the land of the living. She, meanwhile, determines to proceed with her plot to gain her much-delayed revenge. Grey, with his life renewed, tries to stop Allegra from destroying herself with her vengeful plot.
It gets a bit exciting after that, with a shipwreck and some smugglers, and a nick-of-time rescue. I don't want to give away any more spoilers, just let you know the story has some action as well as angst.
This book was written in 1995 and has apparently faded away into the world of forgotten romances. That's kind of a shame, because it is really good.
Wonderful love story!.......2005-07-05
This is my first Halliday book and I loved it! Allegra is a strong heroine whereas, the hero, Grey, is dark and troubled. But Allegra's love changed Grey's life and she instilled love and warmth to his hardened heart.
Book Description
You've waited a long time for the missing link in Adobe's digital home-studio lineup. Now, with the introduction of the brand-new Audition music creation software, it's finally here-if only you could figure out how to use it! Because Audition started life as CoolEdit (before Adobe purchased the program from Syntrillium Software), its distinctive interface has little in common with Adobe's other content creation stand-bys Premiere and After Effects. Not to worry. This no-nonsense, task-based guide uses step-by-step instructions and a boatload of visual aids to turn the key on Audition's interface, so that you can begin using the software immediately to create and polish audio tracks for your film, video, and DVD projects. You'll quickly get up to speed on all of Audition's audio recording, mixing, analyzing, looping, and editing capabilities, so that by the end of the day, you'll know everything you need to about its noise reduction and audio restoration features, sophisticated spectrum and phase-analysis tools, extensive sound-editing capabilities, and more.
Customer Reviews:
Nearly useless, very abstract and badly edited.......2007-01-14
Audition apparently seems to be some kind of unwanted stepchild of Adobe, based on the scarcity of resources Adobe seems to have dedicated to it. I bought this book based on other positive experiences with the "Visual Quickstart Guide" series, but as another reviewer states, this book barely covers what should essentially be in a basic user's manual. There is little if any detail, very few case-study example, and some significant holes in the instructions.
Example: in the "Using Cues" section - there is a section "to list and edit your cues," to "move cues" and to "delete cues"...but it says nothing about creating a cue to start with. These types of omissions can drive beginners insane, and signals some pretty bad editing.
Further, abstract explanations of sounds (or worse, how sounds work) are nearly useless. This book badly needs an accompanying cd. Five seconds of actual audio can teach more that fifty pages of words. Avoid this book.
Not worth buying.......2006-09-30
I got this book and the Adobe User's Guide when I purchased Adobe Audition 1.5. This book requires that you have a pretty good idea of what is going on in recording and gives hardly any examples of practical applications for how you can use the program. It is simply the type of book that says, if you want to do this, here are the steps to accomplish that feat. The Adobe user's guide isn't much better.
Adobe Audition.......2005-08-13
This book is a great guide for the beginner. I was recording multitrack within an hour. Get your feet wet without a major investment.
