Customer Reviews:
As stated, simple wiring code info.........2006-12-21
Don't expect step by step instructions for a job you'd like to do.. other books for that.
If you know how to do the work, this will make sure you do it according to code.
Many people have good ideas out there, but doesn't always comply with code.
I'd say a BIT high in price at $10, uses cheap paper and gets updated often making old version trash. A few years ago this same title only cost about $4. That's quite a price jump.
Stay up to date and safe.
good for general info........2006-08-30
There is good gereral information in this book but it is not an all comprehensive electrical guide or even a full explanation of the electrical code. Not good for pros.
Wiring Simplified.......2006-08-27
I was very disappointed with this book. I thought it was too simplified and did not contain information found in much older versions of Richter's book. For someone needing to know how to connect a light switch it would be all right, but for anything much more complicated than that it was not good.
Good starter for wiring.......2006-08-11
Compact and simple, but also complete, this is a great guide. It doesn't have tons of pretty illustrations, or any full-color photos, but it has useful, descriptive diagrams, it's concise, and its thoroughness is very pleasing. Highly recommended.
Replaced my dog-eared older copy.......2006-03-01
What can I say. It's all there and updated. Use it all the time. Every homeowner ought to keep a copy of this handy.

Educational Review.......1999-12-30
Currently I am using your 1998 copy as a student text book. I teach electrical and electronics to immigrant students. The book is well written and easy to follow. Covers the subject and provides a good understanding of electrical terms and requirements.

Book Description
With a population of 1.2 billion and nearly two decades of spectacular growth, China promises to become one of the world's largest economic powers and consumer markets in the next century. This potential has made China into one of the most attractive host countries for foreign direct investment. State Intervention and Business in China analyzes the impact of preferential policies, the main vehicle of government intervention designed to influence firms' business decisions. Dr. Ding and Dr. Zhimin present a systematic study of China's preferential economic policies in the manufacturing industry in three core areas, namely investor, region and industry-oriented policies. These fast changing policies have had great influence on a wide range of economic activities, including foreign direct investment. The extent, complexity and variety of preferential policies are bewildering to both investors and academics who study the Chinese economy. The authors give a clear account of policies including: preferential tax rates, state bank loans and trade protection and subsidies, and provide a political and economic analysis of their sources and functions. The book also offers empirical observations on the policy impact of state intervention on regional development and sectoral changes and presents an analysis of administrative uncertainties. By reviewing the recent policy changes and the views of experts, scholars and policy makers in China, this important book sheds new light on the economic prospects for China. State Intervention and Business in China will be indispensable for scholars and specialists who are interested in contemporary Chinese economy and society. It is also a valuable guide for doing business in China.

Customer Reviews:
Very happy with the CD's.......2006-04-25
I loved these CD's. I had no problem playing them on a personal cd player or my car cd player. I did not hear any background noises while I played them. I really learned alot from them and I enjoyed the music and they were beautifully played.
Very Poor Quality CD's.......2006-04-01
This item deserves a zero as a rating. I never had problems with CDs as I did with this 8-CD set. They refuse to play when you make a selection. When I placed them in multiple CD players, they sounded as if an airplane was taking off. These are very poor quality CDs for $100. Do not waste your money on this item.
Poorest Quality.......2006-03-23
I have never had so many problems with a CD set as I have had with this one. I returned my first set to Amazon due to several of the discs being damaged to the point that the tracks I needed could not be listened to. Right out of the box some of the discs were scratched or had visible imprints from the case material on them. Amazon was great and quickly sent me a replacement set, but amazingly I had the same problems with the next set. I, like you probably do, need the set for a college class so I could not afford to lose more time in returning another set for a replacement. After spending $90.00 for an item you are required to have it is infuriating to deal with this sort of thing. Unless you are absolutely stuck don't buy this CD set or you will really be stuck!
Excellent Collection!.......2005-04-13
I purchased this collection for a Music class in college, and loved it a great deal. The selections are excellent and well arranged. I also love how the longer pieces are divided up into several tracks so that you can skip to a particularly interesting peak within a movement. The first and last two CD's are especially diverse and interesting, kicking off and wrapping up a HALF A DAYS WORTH (its 12 hours long!) of a musical explosion of Genius.
Sadly, I had to part with my copy for financial reasons, but I assure you that you won't be dissapointed. Load this puppy into your iPod, hit random, and you will essentially be listening to a jukebox full of the best orchestrations of music ever made.
Book Description
An intense examination of the effects of technology on literacy and language. The authors argue that there is a phenomenon transforming modern culture--language is becoming part of a technology of "information systems" with an emphasis on control, rather than human exchange. As a result, all language is becoming debased.
Customer Reviews:
A Transformative Book.......2000-04-01
Is it true that the first Spanish grammar was intended as an agent of state control? Is it true that all writing up until Aquinas was dictation plucked from the air, without opportunity or perceived need for revision? Is it true that the priest reading the written Latin words in Spain, France, Burgundy and throughout Europe pronounced the words in a way that the worshippers understood? I don't know if these and other surprising assertions in the book are true, but having believed them I have found that this book has had a transformative effect on my experience of worship, language and oratory. I hightly recommend this book to priests, educators, and language professionals, and to any one interested in Christianity, language and schooling.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent beginners dart book.......2003-02-28
I own several books on the game of darts, and this is the best one. It is chock full of humorous comments, informative sidebars, charts, figures, hand drawings, and examples. The rules for the games were easy to follow and it lists 23 of them including Cricket. The tips on how to play well, and practice effectively were good. It included several practice routines in addition to the games. And most welcome were the frequent charts showing how an average, expert or pro darter would perform on the various games or feats.
I read the book cover to cover and thoroughly enjoyed the author's writing style and frequent application of humor.
NOTE: The review that blasts the 1977 version of the book should be ignored, as the the 1986 update to the book addressed all the complaints. Cricket is listed, the 7' 9 1/4" throwing distance is clearly listed, etc.
All About Darts ?.......2000-04-16
This book was so bad it doesn't rate a text review only to say save your money. Nothing can be learned from this book for a beginner or anyone else
Not up-to-date, not American.......1999-10-22
It's remarkably deceptive that this 1977 book has "America" and "up-to-date" in its subtitle, for it is neither a book for or by Americans, nor is it up to date. Why isn't copyright date listed on Amazon site???
The most popular game in America is Cricket. Not covered--only the '01 games. Cricket was pretty much unheard of in Britian (home of authors) in 1977 And what of all of the innovations in darts of the last 20 years? Brass darts were the standard in 1977! Since 1977... Tungsten, retractable tip darts, electronic darts, sucken-wire dartboards, hundreds of new tournaments in US and internationally, the hundreds of web sites devoted to darts....and much, much more.
And not just lack of information, but misinformation. For instance, in 1977, at the time of their writing, official throwing distances were different around the world (they state 8' most of the time). The official international distance is 7' 9 1/4"--established in 1979 by BDO and ADO, after this "up-to-date" book was written (20 years ago!)...Valuable information, as well as virtually all names, organizations, etc. are 20 years out of date... Again, this book is certainly, and demonstrably, NOT America's most complete and up-to-date book on darts.
This book should have gone out of print years ago.
An excellent book for beginners.......1999-09-18
For the person just learning about darts, this is an ideal book. There are several variations of dart games listed here, and many of them rely more on luck than skill. Therefore, for people not entirely serious about dart playing, they will find many of these games more interesting and fun than the more traditional games.
This book is perfect for the beginner, but probably won't be of much value to serious dart player.
this book is a waste of time!!!.......1999-07-08
The only thing worthwhile about this book is a few laughs here and there... darts wise, it's better to go to a bar and learn it from there,

Customer Reviews:
Not modern, but informative.......2002-03-01
Though out of print at this time, I bought this book a couple of years ago and think it deserves a review here. The fact is, there are no really modern books about the game, books that give an idea about modern/electronic play and innovations, but this short text has a solid historical overview. Like several other books currently available, it is from a British perspective and dates from the late 1970's. Unlike several others, it doesn't pretend to teach you how to win, at least not past the anecdotal story at the beginning from some past champion. As we all know, improving at darts is simply a matter of practice. This book, though, has information about various past styles of dartboard and a refreshingly nonconformist chapter on the history of the game. One gets the impression that the author would not be happy with the current state of darts as a coin-op/Americanized bar game! Worth a look if you know what to expect.
Book Description
If you're a reasonably experienced Flash user who has mastered the basics but wants to empower your SWFs, taking them further toward rich Internet applications, then youve come to the right place! Foundation ASP.NET for Flash will teach you everything you need to know to integrate two of the most exciting technologies used on the Web today. Using Flash and ASP.NET, it's possible to utilize the amazing user interface capabilities of Flash along with the extensive power of ASP.NET to create dynamic, data-driven web applications. In this book, advanced topics are made easy by providing intuitive step-by-step examples. Author Ryan Moore starts by briefly introducing you to the topic, and then provides a detailed primer on ASP.NET and C#. After that, essential areas are given the full treatment, including FlashVars, LoadVars, ASP.NET objects, XML, Access and SQL Server databases, web services, Flash Remoting, sessions, and security. By the end of the book, youll have built some amazing applications, such as a Google web service interface, an e-commerce site, and a video weblog. This book covers Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8, ASP.NET 2.0, Visual Studio 2005, and Access and SQL Server 2005. It is an essential part of any Flash or ASP.NET web developer's arsenal.
In this book, you'll learn how to:
- Learn the basics of the C# programming language and ASP.NET 2.0.
- Use Visual Studio .NET to create powerful ASP.NET applications that integrate with Flash.
- Create web services in ASP.NET and utilize these services with Flash.
- Use ASP.NET to access and manipulate data from Access and SQL Server databases.
- Set up and use Flash Remoting to communicate between Flash and ASP.NET.
Customer Reviews:
A true foundation for learning ASP.NET / Flash integration.......2006-07-07
A great primer on C# and installation of a local development environment using the free tools that Microsoft offered. All instructions and descriptions are step-by-step. Also includes important information on third-party Visual Studio components that allow you to send data between flash and .NET for pages that not completely inside the Flash interface. This book solidly provides multiple methods to interface with your flash applications using ASP.NET 2.0 with Flash remoting, Web services, and FlashVars... Highly Recommended.. Everything here as advertised!
This book has changed my way of thinking.......2006-06-15
I would like to make this short and sweet. Mr. Moore is at the forefront of the .net community. Without this book, I would have spent the next couple of years trying to learn all of what this book gives me, all for the price of taking my girlfriend to a movie! My offerings to my customers has expanded exponentially, and that, is what this is all about!
5 Stars!!!!
Trying to sell us more products...?.......2006-06-02
My attitude toward this book has NOTHING to do with ASP.net 2.0, nor even Flash. It has to do with this book. While the opening C# Primer is good (a very clean, simplistic quick run down on the basics with strings and arrays), as well I can tell the examples are solid enough you lost me right when we're told to down load Eclipse's little web server control. "Free for development, but ten bucks for unlimited usage...bla bla" Didn't we just spend our money buying your book so we could LEARN not buy more stuff? Ok, it's only ten bucks, but it's the principle of the matter.
Secondly, I think it's rather silly to have to use the code with some fancy web server control in the first place. That's rather cheap, if you ask me. For those who aren't too familiar with ASP.net yet: ASP.net isn't a language, it's the rendering mechanics for web applications in the .net framework. It's a bunch of fancy server controls (which are basically HTML like elements on steroids) that can either be hard coded, like HTML (but that sort of defeats the purpose), or programmatic activated through a .net programming language. This language is then a separate entity (which can be VB.net, or in the case of this book, C#...A very fine, fine language) from the ASP.net server controls, but it works together.
In a nut shell, you don't actually need much of ASP.net's presentation layer (AKA, the page where you put the server controls). If any one is familiar with classic ASP, Response.Write("hello") (which is the equivalent of echo "hello"; in PHP) is all that you'd really need in a .net environment using Flash interfaces.
On a more sophisticated level, you could learn some ADO.net, learn how to mess around with some SQL/XML out putting, and go that route to your Flash movie as well.
So, the final verdict: I'll do the example, just for practice. But I can easily just make a User Control for my flash movies, put to practice what I said there, and VIOLA...no need to pay you ten bucks.
However, for those that are in a bind, and need to Implement a Flash interface into a .net project (for what ever reason), here's a work around:
I'd recommend getting Foundation PHP 5 for Flash by David Powers. Most web hosting solutions that are on Windows will have both .net and PHP installed. Learn how to work with Flash Movies via PHP, then you can embed your Flash movie in your ASP.net files (via a User Control...), and have your PHP files sitting with your ASP.net files in the same app (Trust me, nothing will go wrong nor explode)...This may sound gratuitous, but it really isn't.
However, I'm going to translate David's code into C#, come up with my own projects and then embark on developing my own book on the subject.
Great Introduction to ASP.Net for Flashers.......2006-02-25
I've been a Flash developer for awhile now, have used it with PHP/ASP and other server technologies - but have avoided the learning curve of .Net. FOE books are great at giving you the basics so that you can get up and running quickly, and the tutorials in the book are usually spot-on for applying those basics. Read the book and did the exercises in one week, and now am writing basic Web Services, .dll files, and using remoting with Flash on a basic level - just as I thought I would after finishing the book. There are some typos and ommissions, which seems par for the course these days for technical books (does anybody proof read or edit these things?) - but if you have a genuine knowledge of Flash, you can overcome them pretty easily. Recommended.
