Hilarious.......2007-04-27

I've had this book since I was in middle school, and have read it a ton of times. Some of the jokes are totally out of date, many of them referencing the first Gulf War, the time before Giuliani when Manhattan was a nightmare et. al. That said, they all still hold up, especially the one on the back cover explaining the numerous reasons why you should buy the book. Heed that advice, and get an old copy of this hilarious time capsule.

Humor in the form of sound bites.......2005-03-06

The humor of the Late Night top ten lists has to be very difficult to write. While the topic provides some context, there is little else but common knowledge that the writers can use as a background. This means that the joke must be completely expressed in at most one or two short sentences. Despite this strict set of constraints, the lists are generally very funny, and this book is a collection of lists that appeared on the show before October 1990.
If you like your humor in small, easily digestible bites, then this is the book for you. Some lists will make you laugh, others will make you groan, but all will make you smile.

Still Funny After All These Years.......2002-05-16

I have read this book many times, and it still makes me laugh. Even if you are not a fan of David Letterman and cannot imagine his delivery of these lists, you will still get a chuckle.

The only thing against the book is that it is a little dated. The first tipoff should be the picture of Dave on the front cover. He hasn't had that much hair in a while. Secondly, these lists were written in the late 80s so the younger generation may not get all the political and cultural references (such as references to Dan Qualye).

I would still recommend this book for anyone needing or wanting a laugh.

This book takes you back to the cutting edge humor of the Late Night early years (Ok, 1994). The lists are here, you provide the laughs. Believe it or not, the lists are funny enough to read and reread.

From before the days of Worldwide Pants and the Top Ten List, this book is a collection of the best of Late Night with David Letterman from the early to mid 80's. Monologue jokes, comedy segments, Larry "Bud" Melman, viewer mail and the bookmobile lady are all here and as funny as ever. This book is full of pictures (some in color) and cartoons and includes the words and lyrics to Paul Shaffer's hit "Yeah!". A must for fans who have been watching Letterman since the beginning.

This book is full of Top Ten Lists, with Categories like "Top Ten Least exciting superpowers for comic book superheroes". #2 on the list is "Ability to communicate with corn", #6 is "Ability to calm jittery squirrels", and #8 is "Really bendy thumb" I liked this book, and I hope you do too.

Can't Quite Recommend.......2006-04-15

This is a pretty good tutorial on the Blues. It contains well thought-out instruction on the pentatonic scales and their relationship to the Blues. However, it has a serious drawback. There are no backing tracks for songs on CD. Also, since it does not provide the tempo (in beats per minute), one has to spend valuable practice time building one's own backing tracks (unless you have your own band handy). These days, there are plenty of tutuorials that include backing tracks, as well. For this very reason, I cannot recommend it.

Good sounding stuff........2006-04-07

Just like the Blues you can use series, this book rocks. There is a huge number of licks of all types. Most of them sound really good and I'm using alot of them in my own playing. In addition, he actually explains the licks instead of just throwing them at you. Anyone who is in need of improving their blues playing or looking for licks to add to their stash should pick this one up.

This supplement of the Fifth Age game is a little less than great. Most of the roles in the boxed set are not worth playing. The most useful thing in here is the adventure itself (if you like following the novels).

batteries not included... or CD rather........2006-11-10

I bought this book for a graduate level class I'm currently taking. The book arrived without the "included CD." Amazon quickly cross-shipped a replacement book. Unfortunately, this one was also missing the CD. As I later found out... even in brick and mortar stores, the book doesn't have the "included CD."

The book is pretty good. Easy read. The author does a great job of covering the topics in-depth. Each chapter also has an example case study.

Piece of Garbage.......2006-03-17

Understand firstly that this book is old. Wait, one more time, OLD. The amusing thing is one of the authors still tries to shine light on this trash and use it to try and sell security work for the joke of a practice he runs. Give me a b-a-reak. Fed up with with trash like this on a market. If you're dumb enough to buy this book becuz the nuklehead convinced you it was cutting edge - then back slowly away from the book, run it through a shredder and then stick in your cats litter box.

Good only if you're a newbie.......2004-04-20

This book is good ONLY if you're a newbie. If you're in the field, save you're money and buy something with some teeth to it. Such as, Hacking Exposed. The title itself is very misleading. There is no Pen testing. Unless you get all the tools they talk about and launch an attack. The authors are also a little biased on their choices of tools. I can think of better tools to use, in some situation, then what they suggest. All-in-all, it's just an OK book, if you're new...really new.

Not Pen Testing.......2004-04-16

After reading through this book, it was clear that it teaches you nothing about:
1) Penetration testing
2) Securing your environment

What it does go over are all the possible tools you can download out there, and how you can randomly hack things around you.

Moreover, it is light on methodology, and only touches on operating system and application level security.

This book is a bad idea for those new to pen testing: seek other resources. It is even worse for professionals, who should be cautious altogether.

Akil's review of "Hack I.T." - Newcomer's paradise.......2003-11-09

A Class piece of literature. Well-written, by guys who obviously have experience of both hacking, and Security Consultancy. I consumed the 500 pages over a marathon four days. It was well worth the hours I put aside for this task.

The book has a nice 'human' touch, and makes the reader very aware of the expectancies of corporate clients (those that may employ 'Penetration Testers').

Many of the links to 'tools' are no longer up, but there are many alternatives (as a simple google search will reveal). And of course a CD is included with the book to get you up and running in terms of some basic tools.

This book is a 'must-have' for guys (like myself) new to the Security/Penetration Testing field. Great work Klevinsky/Laliberte/Gupta. Give us more!!!
