A great guide to getting the job.......2000-08-02
This is an excellent book. The author has done a great job in pulling together the elements which spell success in the quest for employment. I recommend it.

This is the best book about finding the job you want........1999-10-11
As a senior college student, I was not doing well on all the interviews that I had, untill I read Jeff Allen's Best: Win the job. After I read this book, my first interview turned out to be great and I was offered a job as a computer programmer. I would advice any one out there looking for a job to put this book in his/her bag and read before your interview.
This is one of the best books of the decade on resumes.......1998-10-16
Dear Fellow Job Hunters
This is probably the best book of the decade on how to write resumes. All other books just explaine how resumes look like but this book takes you on a step by step approch and doesn't show you but tells you.
If you are a first time job hunter I highly recomend it.
If you are a seasoned pro you should still check it out resumes are changing format because of computers and video recording technology.
What I hate about the book is that the sample resumes take on a problem and solutuion approch. Jeff Allen, gives an example resume and then tells you what is wrong with it.
Jeff Allen forgets that no two resume is the same, becasue no two people have the same experiances, talents, abilities and back grounds to give a universal solution to resume problems.

Great for teaching analogies.........2007-09-27
I use this book with my class each year to talk about analogies. We all know they eventually show up somewhere in your life on a test. After we read the book, my class creates their own Animalogies for an animal of their choice.
Book Description
This book is written from a composer's point of view and is intended to be a reference book for the analysis of arranging techniques. Its aim is to help composers and arrangers improve their compositional skills as well as their understanding of various musical styles. Through a study and analysis of the scores and styles of the master composers, the author gives a broad view of the music of both the past and of the present. This allows the musician to navigate within the contemporary music scene with an essential awareness of and appreciation for all genres of music. The skills and concepts taught in this book will help the aspiring arranger harmonize melodies and write counter-melodies quickly and efficiently utilizing various combinations of instruments and voices, whether for pops orchestra, television, or recordings, according to the demands of modern commercial music.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent buy!.......2006-11-21
Excellent book, lots of examples in the CD. The book gives you tons of useful tips for the working or weekend musician. I gave it 4 stars because it already starts with concepts like open or closed position, and doesn't explain them, making this book a bit advanced for a beginner. If you're not a beginner, this book is for you!
Great Book.......2002-12-27
Corozine's text has been sorely needed by studying arrangers for quite some time; classical focused books have addressed instrument ranges and effects applicable to those specific instruments through orchestral literature, and commercial ones give little information on practical uses of specific techniques. Corozine's text not only covers these two areas, but also is careful to contrast different treatments of arranging the same music. The accompanying compact disc is very helpful in illustrating Corozine's points. In all, a book I wish I had while studying for my own master's degree in arranging in the mid 1990s. Well done!
A MUST FOR AN ARRANGER'S LIBRARY.......2002-09-17
Where was this masterful book "Arranging Music For the Real World" when I needed it" As a young "road" musician, early in the stages of arranging, I used to ask reputable arrangers how they had become so knowledgeable and learned to write so well. Unequivocally they all gave the same answer, "I studied and analyzed scores of the 'Masters.'" The author of this excellent book, Vince Corozine, uses this unique concept (the basic principles of arranging and orchestration), as the basis of his book, showing how composers of the past used them and how they effectively may be used today to achieve a fresh contemporary sound. Mr. Corozine has fulfilled his goal admirably, with the inclusion of music of all genres: jazz, symphonic, pop, choral, Broadway, film, and television scores. Not only does he display samples of his own compositions and the "Masters," he demonstrates his works beautifully on a CD which comes with the book. If you feel your arrangements and compositions lack the excitement, tonal color and sophistication that you so desire, then this book is your answer. As a professional musician and music educator, I highly recommend "Arranging Music for the Real World."
New Vince Corozine Book.......2002-06-22
I have to admit to some personal bias in posting this review. A few years ago, I commuted from my home in Hampton, Virginia, down to North Carolina to take some composition lessons with Vince Corozine. Vince showed me some preliminary chapters from a book he was working on and asked me to read and make some comments on what he had done. His goal was to discuss contemporary arranging techniques and compare those techniques with the compositional style of the great composers of the western European tradition. I have just finished reading the complete book for the first time and I think that Vince fulfilled his goal admirably. In addition to being a master composer/arranger and an inspiring teacher, Vince is also a warm and generous person. These traits are in full bloom in this book. Along with providing a wealth of information about arranging and composition, the tone of the book reflects Vince's joy of music making and his willingness to share his encyclopedic knowledge of the subject. I especially liked Chapter 6, A Brief Historical Survey of Orchestration, where Vince compares orchestration styles from the Baroque to the Impressionistic periods. Vince has included numerous examples from his own arrangements and original compositions, which reinforces the fact that this is no mere academic exercise. There are abundant musical examples in the text and an accompanying CD, which includes selections, most or all, arranged or composed by Vince. This book is sure to be a welcome addition to the literature , as both a manual of instruction and as a reference work in itself- a great contribution from one of America's outstanding composer/arrangers.
Book Description
Light the torches and grab the tiny paper umbrellas — the ultimate guide to delicious tiki beverages can be found in this colorful boxed deck of cards that features retro hipster artist Shag's witty illustrations. In this variant on Tiki Drinks, former bartender Adam Rocke selects his favorite luau libations and cool cocktails. The effect of "tiki" or "boat" drinks, he says, is to evoke the sensation of being marooned on an exotic island with a bevy of insignificant others eager to do your bidding. Fifty-two of the best tropical drink recipes are featured here, including piña coladas, daiquiris, punches, margaritas, freezes, coolers, and other classics that will conjure island breezes and rolling waves. Lesser-known but equally transporting drinks include such creative variations as the Pirate's Cove, Buccaneer, Zombie, Frozen Mudslide, and Bahama Mama. In addition to serving up liquid exotica, Rocke offers tips on mixers, glasses, and serving techniques — all necessary accoutrements of the pro or amateur bartender who wants to keep the natives restless.

The Pictorial Key to the Soul.......2006-09-26
The Symbolon deck is a pictorial representation of the twelve astrological archetypes and their relationships, all depicted as persons. Their content is based on hundreds of therapeutic sessions with patients and draws from fairy tales, mythology, religion and common archetypes.
You should consider the symbolon deck as a blueprint of the author's complete therapeutic knowledge.
It can be used to clarify astrological constellations, but the authors developed a set of twelve spreads to be used seperately from astrology. Ingrid Zinnel even defined meanings for them as "card of the day", with self-empowering statements.
The artist did an outstanding job. No other deck has these amount of breathtaking images.
Note that all literature describing the use of this deck is in German only.
Strange and wonderful pack of cards! .......2006-04-07
I have had this deck for a few years and I still cannot figure it out! It pretty much does it on its own when I sit down to read for others. The images are startling, based on classical archetype. The is very little occult symbolism used other than astrology. This one could take or leave. It is not required to have a lot of information about this subject.
The booklet that comes with the deck is translated from German and is not easy to follow. I tossed it aside and begun to "feel" out each card. There are many images to reflect upon. They range from the silly to dire. In the hands of a serious therapist this could give great insight to many.
It is fun in beginners hands. This is NOT a Tarot deck. This means no books to study. The cards could lead to further study and divination.
Fantastic Deck!!.......2004-06-17
Actually, you can tell about a person's life with this deck, as well as many other situations that a diviner would want to know. I have had this deck for years, and what made me search it out on this site is that I recommended it to someone else and I wanted her to recognise the deck! I love it, and it is worth the buy!
Startling and beautiful Deck.......2002-02-28
I've wanted this deck for a long time, but i knew it was more of a past life recall and reflection deck than a tarot deck, which is what i read with. I have found that although i can't tell what is actually going on in someone's life with it, i can tell where they are emotionally with a situation, and i use it all the time for myself to find out what is really bothering me about a situation , what a particular person or circumstance is bringing up for me subconsciously and underneath my every day insight.
The pictures do reach into my subconscious and i actually do get flashbacks at times from reading them. No matter what you do with this deck, i think its lovely, fascinating, and i can't imagine a day when i wouldn't get something completely new from reading them. I wish the author's had written more. It is simply the most consistantly beautiful deck i've ever seen.

Customer Reviews:
As a photographer it was..... disappointing.......2007-01-12
Maybe graphic designers will like it but I did not find the images something I wanted look at. Made my head hurt. It is packed with a lot of filler: reasons the artist did what he did, what his favorite things are, and why this project was so so difficult for him.
The best purchase I have made as a graphic designer-besides my computer.......2006-07-13
I work as a professional graphic design artist as well as a fine artist, and I have spent literally hours combing through the Photoshop how-to books in order to learn more innovative apporaches to the program.
Finding this book has made all of the work I have done to learn Photoshop worthwhile, and I really feel like it unleashed my ability to work with this program as an artist. Not only did it give me a ton of techniques to use when creating images, but I also turn to it whenever I have "artists-block" and just need to try something new. I began reading it when I was on vacation and I didn't even have a computer to work on, I was so intrigued by the thorough narrations of each artist explaining their unique techniques. The images really are stunning and tremendously multilayered; it was very exciting for me to learn new and unexpected ways to create images using Photoshop tools.
Seriously, this book has had a huge impact on my development as a graphic artist, and has allowed me to really expand as an artist in general.
Just another dumb Photoshop Book.......2005-09-16
Ok this book is just another bla Photoshop book. Nothing great not nothing new that has not already been mentioned in other photoshop books
Illustration Inspiration.......2005-06-23
Photoshop tennis anyone? In Photoshop Secrets twenty designers face off in ten different matches, two designers to a match. One designer starts an image through a combination of photo clips and Photoshop actions then passes it to another designer for the next "volley". Each match has ten volleys and produces ten completely unique images. These are images that fit the digital illustration genre. If you're looking for photorealistic techniques, check out one of Bert Monroy's books. How much you'll learn about Photoshop techniques certainly depends on your current knowledge level, but based on what I found this book will give you a few interesting things to try and, even more, a good bit of inspiration if you're interested in doing some professional illustration.
Disappointing.......2004-10-07
I realize that it's subjective, but the images in this book are not "stunning". Many are a jumble bag of doodles and diddling. Some are interesting. Hidden in the "tennis plays" there are some tips on Photoshop image making, but it's difficult to consider looking for them because of the dreariness of the imagery. This book presents the case for me that it may be best to check these kinds of books out more (e.g, reviewing the pages available at Amazon or actually handling in a bookstore).
