The book is an adequate primer for the spice software. Although the sofware is DOS based, it is certainly adequate for learning purposes. As an engineer using Pspice in my work, I think that this book is a good purchase. I would also reccommend the Kielkowski books (both of them!)

Don't buy the book with disk. Just buy the book........1999-02-17

The software with this book is a very down level DOS version 6.1 of SPICE. I expected study aide software. Version 8 PSPICE (and soon 9) is available for free on the Web or on CD from ORCAD. Why spend the extra $12?

I have read this book, and found that the first four chapters are good describing the syntax, as well as the basic circuit simulation. Other chapters are fairly easy to understand and worthy for beginers. However, this book do not describe much or provide you a good chapter with examples about CMOS circuits simulation, except 3 pages about CMOS in the appendix G. This book would be great if the author revises and adds some things such as editing symbols, converting subcircuits into symbols...

I use this book mostly for referencing command syntax. Most people don't hand enter Spice netlists anymore, but this book is still very useful if you want to no why and how things work behind the scenes. I would have liked more information about advanced device modeling.

Worth the money.......2000-02-22

This book was the best book I have used for PSpice. Software was easy to install and examples were very easy to follow. Examples covered almost all topics I was interested in. If you need a recommendation on a good PSpice book this is it.

This book and software combination require MAJOR updates........1999-06-15

The self help guide becomes virtually useless in Chapter 2, in which the sample circuits provided for evaluation have key components which are not supported by the software. Chapter 2 is supposed to teach the user how to utilize the circuit analysis tool called "Probe", however, since neither sample circuit is supported by the software, the chapter becomes an effort in futility. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning MicroSim Pspice.

Of several books on PSpice on my shelf, Herniter's is best........1999-05-22

Written as an academic lab manual, it works as well for a small business designer, as I am. It's both a tutorial and reference for PSpice ver 7.1 that's included, but is applicable also to PSpice ver8, especially if you contact the author's Web site for his excellent ver8 support materials. I'm looking forward to Herniter's next edition.

The Genius Of Al Capp.......2003-04-05

Al Capp was on the verge of reaching his peak- a peak he would maintain for many, many years- in these great 1939 newspaper strips. The drawing style is getting bolder and funnier and Capp's visual and narrative satire is beginning to hit a stride that put him at the top of his medium and at the forefront of American popular culture. "Li'l Abner" is a great American work of art, and boy, is it funny stuff. This beautiful series of books is a Godsend from revered publisher Denis Kitchen, and reestablishes Capp's important place as a twentieth century artist and writer.

My favorite sequence here has Abner posing as a college student ("Oh,Happy Collidge Days!!") as a couple of equally-disguised gangsters try to kill him. While being shoved off a cliff and into a river, tied to a boulder, Abner enthuses "This is mah first collidge hazin'!!" Buy all 27 volumes of this priceless series and take the phone off the hook for a few months.

Under "Composers," we find Michael Jackson and Mick Jaeger alongside Bach and Tchaikovsky, while other notable composers go missing. Other than that spot of comic relief, there is nothing of value cover to cover; thus, the title: Worthless & In The Garbage.

A little book that offers little.......2007-01-06

Wasn't sure what I expected in a pocket sized book, but really the book tries to cram too much info in its pages. Consequently, the information on composers is barely useful, even though the number of composers is volumnious, which leaves too few pages for the other topics it tries to cover. The weak section on composers is larger than the section on musical terms.

This is a very useful and helpful book containing practically everything you'll ever need to look up when it comes to basic information about musical instruments, music theory, composers etc.
Amongst other things, this book presents and illustrates:
- the average ranges for musical instruments and vocalists (basses, tenors, altos, sopranos)
- definitions of common English, French, German, Italian, Polish (et al) musical terms and abbreviations.
- basic musical theory starting with an introduction to how notes and rests work, how sharps and flats work within different key signatures, and proceeds to things like intervals, scale types, chord types, chord charts, the cycle of fifths, ornaments, dynamic marks, tempo marks, music symbols, repeat signs etc.
- basic information about a large amount of composers, such as when and where they were born and musically active and what historical periods they belong to. Over 120 pages of the book presents composers of early music, like Bach, Beethoven and Mozart, but also modern composers like Edgard Varèse, Frank Zappa and Charles Mingus.

The book does not include information about any musical groups, it doesn't illustrate musical examples from any composed music, it doesn't give you tips on what and how to practice on certain instruments, nor does it touch upon topics like instrumental and vocal technique, but everything basic that you should know if you're teaching or studying within the field of music you will find here (for a very low price.)
As it reads on the cover of the book: "The most practical and useful dictionary for students and professionals - over 330 pages of comprehensive music information."
Add "basic" to the last sentence and the statement is 100% accurate.
...the fact that the book is small, and therefore easy to carry with you anywhere, makes it great.

Web Site Cookbook is a really good problem solving guide for beginner to intermediate web designers. This reference includes hundreds of common questions, how tos, and ways to increase efficiency in a standard problem, solution, discussion, and see also format. Each of these entries also uses snippets of text and often includes illustrations of the result whenever possible. Topics include everything from registering and site planning through formatting text and graphics to making forms and dealing with ecommerce issues.

Web Site Cookbook is set up from simple to more complex concepts so that the reader need not have any previous experience creating a website in order to comprehend and make use of these instructions. Working on Web Sites in a Straight Forward Way.......2006-05-21

Doug Addison has produced a very useful and informative guide to working on Web sites. While many books look at the mechanics of HTML, or detailed coding, Web Site Cookbook rather follows the O'Reilly cookbook structure, looking at specific issues and needs and presenting answers. The book looks at the other aspects of good Web site work - colors, design and small tasks that are part of everyday Web sites now. Many of the recipes will make a more experienced Web site author go "duh," but I found myself flagging many of the entries if nothing else to do more research using some of the Web resources cited at the end of each recipe. Much of what is talked about is Web Design 101, but with so many WYSIWYG tools out there allowing anyone to produce a simple Web site, it's useful to have someone succinctly state the ideas behind complimentary colors to try and avoid those awful sites that just make your eyes burn. Nothing here is earth shattering or is something that you couldn't find on-line, but the value is Addison's organization and presentation, distilling Web speak into simple language, showing some examples and sending the reader off to other resources if he or she wants. The book is written with the idea that you are programming in PHP on top of an Apache Web server, which may not be relevant to all readers, but even those readers, like myself, who don't use PHP or Apache can carry away quick and valuable information, and have a flagged book to grab and look for information on a specific topic in the future. It's going to be a useful addition to my my desk.

good reference.......2006-04-22

I skimmed through the book, and I know I will find it very useful. It points out many things that web developers will want or need to do at some point and provides easy information on how to make them happen.

The one issue I have with the book is that it is about 70% PHP and Apache Server, which I don't use. This isn't a problem with the book, I just didn't quite realize this when I bought it. But, regardless of the language you use to program, even the PHP examples are useful as they show you the methodology to implement solutions in a clear, concise, and easy to understand way. It is also a good reference if you're considering using PHP or use it a little bit.

I have purchased hundreds of technical books, but I never purchased an O'Reilly book before - they just seemed to be too sparse, where I was looking for more in-depth instruction. However, now I know why they are so popular. I think you can learn more from a good example...or a good solution to a problem...rather than reading many chapters of most other books.

This book is definitely for people with some experience and again, I would just stress that it is mainly a PHP and Apache Server reference.

Excellent for beginners, but I would have liked to have gotten more detail. Perhaps that is the trade-off for so broad a subject. This book has answers to alot of questions that beginners (like me) might have. For instance, when I was shopping around for a hosting service for a personal website, features that were common to most hosting plans were cron (a scheduling utility) and ssi (server side includes). What are they? Why would they list them as a plus for hosting? Why would I care if they featured these or not? Well the Web Site Cookbook not only tells you what they are, but also gives you examples as to when, how, and why you might use them.

Each topic (recipe) is broken down into 4 sections:
1. Problem: A one or two sentence description of what you need or want to do.

2. Solution: A step by step solution.

3. Discussion: A discussion of the applied solution.

4. See Also: Additional information from other "recipes" in the book and/or outside resources.

There are also sections on planning your site, organizing directories, creating color schemes, as well as tips on making URL's easy to find and remember. (just to name a few). This book will get you well on your way to putting together a well designed web site. Highly recommended.
