South Florida Job Source - Review.......2001-08-11
It is quite easy to see that this book was created with only one purpose in mind and that is to take people's money! 3/4 of the websites listed in the book are completely useless, they are either totally outdated or simply give you error messages; there are only about 50 names of people in the entire book and they mostly relate to CEO's and not HR managers; The information indicating how to prepare a job hunting campaing extends to only about 5 pages of completely general and useless information that can be found in any other job hunting book. To make the story short, do not waist your money purchasing this book, it is useless!!!

From the author: Objective: The effectiveness of driving while intoxicated (DWI) operations in deterring impaired driving depends on the ability of police officers to detect heavy drinkers. The passive alcohol sensor (PAS), which can detect alcohol in expired breath at a distance of 6 inches from the face, provides a means for detecting heavy drinking within 15-30 seconds. The objective of this study was to determine the accuracy of the PAS unit for estimating the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of drivers and study its potential use as a screening device for estimating BAC in relation to several factors related to its use (age, gender, light conditions, and police confidence in the PAS measure). Method: A recent study funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the BAC levels of crash-involved and randomly stopped drivers as a control group for comparison provided 12,587 cases in which both a breath test and a PAS measure of BAC were obtained for each driver studied. This research involved a secondary analysis of that data set using regression and receiver operator curves methodology to determine the accuracy and utility of the PAS for use as a screening device for DWI violations. Results: PAS scores were a strong predictor of a driver's BAC status. The only other variable having a significant and consistent relationship independent of PAS was police confidence. Detection sensitivity and specificity for each PAS cut-point score were estimated. Conclusions: By selecting a PAS cut-point score appropriate to the enforcement operation being undertaken, the PAS can be an effective tool for officers when deciding whether to initiate a DWI investigation.

TV causes the downfall of all civilization.......2006-03-09
I first read this book a couple of years ago and thought it was very clever. Though the author sometimes sacrifices compelling language to reach a rhyme, the overall story is a rich, satirical tale for adults about how TV is used to lull a group of dissatisfied slaves back into complacency, presented in the guise of a children's book. I bought a copy recently to read to my junior high media literacy class in honor of "Turn Off Your TV Week" and a lot of it flew right over their heads. I think the rhyming helps to cloud the real issues being presented so I would recommend this title only for a high-school-and-older audience. Also, this book, unedited, is not suitable for read-alouds as it is deceptively long (and one can only listen to rhyming couplets for so long).
WOW!.......2004-02-02
A classic! Fable for today's kids. My boys got the message, and my husband and I both loved it! Our current family favorite.
Very Smart.......2003-10-21
This is a very clever follow up to Snark, Inc. I read a review somewhere stating the book puts more twists into fewer pages, and I agree with that. I liked Snark but this book is more of an interesting critique of its enemy (if you will) as it has a stronger narrative. I think the best underlying theme of the book is that the "protaganosts" are treated as a faceless collective - which is exactly what people become as media consumers. There's a great illustration to convey this when the Snox Boxes are delivered to slaves, and they're all in the background with no discernable faces. Definitely worth picking up if you have your doubts about the true intentions of mega-media corporations. Control, control, control!
Kill Your Television!.......2003-06-20
This is a fun book. The graphics are really engaging, and the writing has a really incisive glance at consumerism and how TV and media control every aspect of our lives. It's a nice follow up to Snark, Inc. and in many ways it's a stronger book.
Turn off the TV and check it out!
Book Description
In August 1964, twenty-one-year-old photographer Douglas R. Gilbert, on assignment for Look magazine, photographed an up-and-coming folk singer named Bob Dylan. Just twenty-three years old, Dylan had already composed a striking body of work, including "Blowin' in the Wind," yet he himself was still relatively unknown.
All that was about to change. For more than a week, Gilbert photographed a surprisingly open Bob Dylan, smiling and relaxed among friends like musician John Sebastian and poet Allen Ginsberg. To Gilbert's dismay, Look deemed Dylan's appearance "too scruffy" for a family magazine, and the images remained unpublished and unseen, until now.
Featuring veteran music journalist Dave Marsh's insightful text, Forever Young unforgettably captures a pivotal time in Bob Dylan's extraordinary career--the time when he began transforming not just folk but all of popular music.

Dylan Smiles.......2007-09-05
It's amazing and keeps you wonder how those pics stayed in the vaults for over 41 years or so. When you think you've seen it all from Bob, there comes Doug Gilbert with those great pics. I think this book is a perfect companion to The Bob Dylan Scrapbook and I have no doubt whatsoever, that it's going to become a classic Dylan photo book with time. No Dylan photo book has ever shown the man so candid and happy. Dylan seems to be in a great period of his life and you can almost feel it through Gilmore's pictures. He's so loose and relaxed all the time, it's almost umbeliavable. It makes hard for you to think that only a year later things would start to change, either for Dylan and for the history of rock and roll itself. Within 2 years the changes would be even more radical with all that craziness around and then the accident that, in my opinion, saved Bob's life, as weird as it may seem. Some of my fellow reviewers complained about the Da Capo edition, but I totally disagree. I think they did a great job and the combination of green pages and the black and white pictures creates a great effect. No complains, whatsoever. All in all, it's worth the price and more. Good job Doug.
A young Dylan captured from 1954.......2006-04-13
Rock fans will relish Douglas R. Gilbert and Dave Marsh's FOREVER YOUNG: PHOTOGRAPHS OF BOB DYLAN (0306814811, $29.95): over seventy candid photos of a very young-looking Bob Dylan are the focus, taken by an also-young photographer Dan Gilbert back in 1964 on assignment for Look magazine. Gilbert photographed a surprisingly open young Dylan relaxed among fellow musicians at his home, following him from Greenwich Village to the Newport Folk Festival and catching him before he underwent a striking set of changes and made himself inaccessible to media. A unique portrait makes this a real, rare winner and a treat for Dylan fans used to very studied photos.
AMAZING.......2006-03-24
I LOVE BOB DYLAN====TO ME HE IS THE ICON HE WANTS TO BE TO HIS AUDIENCES===NOT THE ONE I WANT HIM TO BE----DID I SAY HE IS THE BEST.
Pass on this one... .......2006-02-28
I've seen much better photos/articles on Dylan and would not suggest this particular work. I will be selling my copy in the used section.
Great photos, edition doesn't do justice to them.......2006-02-28
These photos of Douglas R. Gilbert, which depict Bob Dylan in a very different mood from the ones found for example in 'Early Dylan' have unfortunately not received the quality edition they deserve by Da Capo. It is a shame, since they are certainly worth the price of the book, but one wishes more care had been taken when preparing the book for publication. When compared with the four accompanying prints which really show the value of Gilbert's images, one gets rather disappointed with the reproductions printed in the book.

Customer Reviews:
Entry level introduction, but not consistent.......2007-01-11
This is a book that can potentially help the person responsible for an intranet start-up or redesign. She/he may be internal responsible or external assisting consultant.
Pros:
A quick read; covers a lot of ground; will introduce you to the major issues and challenges in intranet development.
Cons:
For people who have been involved with IT/www projects, this book offers little new; several writers have contributed, and the result is an inconsistent flow with some redundancy; the text will cover so many topics (technology, project management, intranet concepts, extranets, mobile devices, usability, information architecture, and more), that a we never really get in depth.
Who will really benefit from this book:
Students, absolutely newcomers to the field, and those who, as bedtime reading, need a catch-up overview of the field.
