Book Description
The first comprehensive account of women's participation in the Israeli labor force, Kraus's book analyzes the trends in the status of women in paid employment since the 1960s. Covering all aspects of labor force participation, she fully integrates, and tracks over time, the many facets of social stratification by gender in Israeli society. Though founded as an egalitarian society, Kraus's research clearly shows that traditional attitudes toward women in the Israeli workplace have prevailed over those more progressive. Consequently, the widely held impression that the status of women in Israel differs from that of their counterparts in other liberal democratic societies, is shown to be more myth than reality. Though focusing on Israel, comparisons are made with other modern industrial societies, adding to the evidence accumulating on the changing trends in the status of women in the labor force that will interest scholars and students concerned as to how gender intersects with matters of political economy. Furthermore, the unique spectrum of communities in Israel, ranging from traditional Muslim Arab-Palestinians, through Christian Arab-Palestinians and Jews of African American origin, through to the more modernized Jews of European-American origin, enables simultaneous examinations of the various stages of women's integration in the labor force.

Customer Reviews:
My kind of rules.......2005-06-03
This book is one of my favorites.
Maybe some people want marriage but I'm not marrying anyone till I know how he is in bed (and staying single is fine with me . I don't intend to spend my life catering to some guy - trying to make his life great while mine sucks.) Sex and seduction should be fun - whatever style you choose. This book teaches (or reminds) you different ways to be sexy (for yourself or someone else). Feel sexy for yourself first - someone else will catch on eventually.
A tongue-in-cheek parody of The Rules.......2002-02-12
After reading only a few pages of that nauseating book, The Rules, this was quite a breath of fresh air. Take it lightly, and it's quite a funny read. Some of the tips are great for single girls. This book is hard to find, but worth it if you can get your hands on it!
SEX GENERAL WARNING: Panties May Be Harmful To Your Sex Life.......2001-03-03
SEX for the sheer sake of SEX! And a book to make us girls feel GOOD about it! NO GUILT! I was never allowed to fully enjoy the experience of just 'doing it' for the sheer sake of doing it! I was always told it had to involve LOVE! Well, it DOESN'T...Just ask any guy. And it's time that WE girls start treating it that way! This book has given me a healthy respect for the power of a man's penis. It explained the unprovoked erections ruling his thoughts and actions. No wonder men are obsessed with sex practically from birth. Girls are not as blessed or fortunate with the same direction and motivation. Instead we think about love and marriage from a very early age, which sets the stage for the rest of our lives. Life would be a lot easier and much more satisfying if, from the start, we thought of only satisfying the craving between our thighs! Then we wouldn't feel guilty when we have that "one night stand" and realized that we, too, just wanted to get `laid' and not necessarily to have a baby. Guys and girls wouldn't have to play games with one another. Men wouldn't have to pretend to love a girl that they just wanted to 'sleep' with a few times and girls could finally relax and not stress out so much over whether or not they meant it. We'd all get along and have lots of fun, free, and UNCONDITIONAL sex! I think a little bit of "sex awareness" in our gender could go a long way toward creating harmonious relationships with the guys. I concur with the Authors that the harmony of those relationships will only occur after girls begin to understand the true nature of the penis. To prove my next point, I will put forth a question to the female audience: How many of you girls buy Playgirl Magazine? The answer, of course, is not many. Sure, all of us have picked up an issue once or twice out of curiosity, but very few of us subscribe or even occasionally purchase the magazine. It often makes me wonder how in the world the damn publication doesn't go bankrupt. On the flip side of this question, how many of us girls know guys who buy Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, or any of the hundreds of other magazines dedicated to the relentless pursuit of separating very pretty girls from their panties? That's right, every one of us knows a guy-hell that covers just about every guy I've ever known! I know this is a subject that is of considerable irritation to many girls, and that is precisely why I have chosen to mention it. Like many of my female friends, I was crushed when I first found out that one of my boyfriends was `looking' at pictures of other girls in these magazines. I immediately felt inadequate, unattractive, and unappreciated. Not that he had ever expressed any dissatisfaction with me as a girlfriend, but still, I felt inept in almost every area. Within a matter of a week, I was secretly having sex with his best friend out of hurt and revenge. At the time, I felt justified in my actions. Now, I'm not so sure...that I had sex with his best friend for the `right' reasons.
Some time ago, an ex-boyfriend finally sat me down and explained to me that men don't necessarily `look' at these magazines because of feelings of inadequate girlfriends, but rather because men have realized one important truth: Variety is the spice of life! I know what most of you girls would say to that, so let me say it for you-Yes, Girls love variety too, but there is an important difference. When a girl wants to see a guy naked, she doesn't have to buy a magazine. All she has to do is simply ask. All of us girls know this to be true. How many guys would strip out of their Levi jeans in a heartbeat from nothing more than the sweet request of a pretty girl? Yep, all of them would! But how many girls would do the same for a guy? Almost none of us would. No, as girls, we want a commitment from the guys before we'll drop our panties. We want our guys to promise and profess their undying love for us, which includes their inability to ever even think about any other girl. While that's all fine and dandy, if the guy really feels that way, I have yet to meet a guy who wanted anything more than a `sweet piece of our pie' after just a few dates. So why do we hold them accountable for "undying love" and all that jazz. As the book states, what we inevitably get 9 out of 10 times is a LIE so that they can get into our pants! Girls must understand the incredible urges that a man is subjected to from his penis. A penis loves to have sex! It wants his girlfriend! It wants his girlfriend's best friend! It wants the whole cheerleading squad! Trust me, I know. It WASN'T hard at all to convince my boyfriend's best friend to have sex with me. At the time, I did it out of revenge; he did it because he couldn't help himself. His penis made the decision for him! That, of course, brings me back to my original point, which is that I shouldn't have retaliated against my boyfriend after discovering his hidden supply of Girlie magazines. Don't misunderstand me, I'm NOT sorry I had sex with his best friend, he was after all, a `fantastic lay,' I'm just sorry I did it out of revenge. I know I would have ENJOYED it even more, if I had relaxed and enjoyed the ride instead of simmering with feelings of betrayal as his best friend pounded me from behind. But I digress...BUY THE BOOK - JUST DON"T GET CAUGHT!
Simply funny.......2000-11-07
The other rules is one of the best books I have ever read. And even though I wont pratice all the rules(but some of them) I think it is quite good book for entertainment and it gives a lot of great tips for women.
It's definitely worth the money i spend for it
Watch out Tom, Harry, and especially Dick!.......2000-10-27
Watch out Tom, Harry, and especially Dick! We girls are coming for YOU! "Never Wear Panties On The First Date" is by far the most liberating book I have ever read. As a single girl, I have often fought with the "rules" that my mother passed down to me and I have never felt comfortable with the "double standard" between the sexes! Finally, along comes a book that is bold enough to throw out the old "rules" and level the playing field for us girls...this is that book! I strongly believe that every girl should be given this book on her sixteenth birthday instead of the usual pretty panties...after she reads this book, she won't need them! After all, no girl likes sitting at home waiting for her boyfriend to call...if he calls at all--Well, when he doesn't call, this book gives girls the courage to not just go out, but to go out (minus panties) and get laid! There are a ton of great ideas in this book for some of the hottest sex imaginable for single, engaged, and married women...and it doesn't always involve their boyfriends or husbands! What they don't know can't hurt them, right? Don't miss out on this one, girls!! It's worth every cent!
Book Description
The national best-selling autobiography of Bill Graham, the colorful, larger-than-life architect of the modern concert industry.
As a child, Bill Graham fled Europe to escape Hitler's armies. He grew up on the streets of New York and in the dining rooms of the hotels in the Catskills. After failing as an actor, he headed for San Francisco right before the Summer of Love where he founded the Fillmore and launched the rock icons of a generation--Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, the Grateful Dead, and more. He was a complex, caring, compassionate whirlwind of energy who rock stars either loved--or hated.
In his own voice and those of the people who knew him--Jerry Garcia, Keith Richards, Grace Slick, Ken Kesey, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Carlos Santana--we hear Bill's story as well as the scoop on the major events in rock for more than three decades, ending with his tragic death in a 1991 helicopter crash. Gritty, moving, funny, and always fascinating, Bill Graham Presents is the inside story of the explosive and unforgettable man who created the business of rock.
Customer Reviews:
Great, interesting book.......2007-04-03
This book is a little weird (to me) in concept but it works out really well in the end. The book goes from Bill's early days in Nazi Germany all the way to his death with no major stone left unturned. Lots of great stories with very little in the way of punches being pulled. I mean Bill really tells you what he is thinking. Very uncensored. Covers the drugs and the behind scenes stuff with no BS involved. Shows the guy for who he was, warts and all and lets him and the people he is talking about retort one another which I thought was weird in a good way. This book is of great interest to anyone who has probably gotten to this point in reading reviews. If you are interested in this type of subject then this book is a must.
Insightful.......2007-03-24
It's a good insight into the rock scene back in the 60's and 70's. A must read for anyone who likes classic rock.

The Production Manager king.......2006-12-21
This book is structured so that as Bill Graham comments on different times of his life, he allows the persons hes speaking of to comment in the next paragraph. This makes for some very interesting reading. Grham discusses his time in Korea and killing the enemy. This experience allows him to have an abundant amount of courage when it comes to dealing with band managers in the future. Bill discusses Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Zeppelin, the Stones, J Geils Band, Santana, the Who and all the tense dealings with each of these personalities. This book could have benefitted from better pictures of the bands. Thats my only critical comment.
A Fascinating Perspective On The Fillmore Era.......2005-03-31
Bill Graham is the rock promoter most famous for operating the leading rock and roll theaters of the late sixties and early seventies, including the original Filmore auditorium in San Francisco, the Fillmore East in New York, and the Fillmore West, (a different building in San Francisco.) The Fillmore period was sort of a golden age of rock and roll. Graham was able to present virtually all the cutting edge bands of the time, including some acts, like Santana and the Allman Brothers, before they even had their first record out. Rock and roll shows had never received the kind of attention to detail and respect for performers and audiences that Graham brought to the Fillmores. Graham presented a variety of music, including blues and jazz, although the headliners were almost always top draw rock and roll acts. Many artists took advantage of the Fillmore's reputation to record live albums there. In fact, according to this book, 58 albums were recorded at the Fillmores and 17 of them were certified gold. The Fillmores also became gathering places for the music industry. Graham was more than just a first hand witness to this era, he helped to create it. The Fillmore sections of this book are a fascinating examination of how the Fillmore came into existence, how the musicians felt about playing for Bill Graham, how the booking policy of the Fillmore evolved, and finally why Graham closed the Fillmores at the peak of the their success.
In addition to Graham's own memories, there are memories of his contemporaries as well which round out the story. Italics are overused in attempt to make the writing sound like a transcription of someone talking, but this is only a minor irritation. Consider the following quote from Pete Townsend which is taken from the book: "(Graham) gave us dignity. We felt we weren't the pop plebes we had been when we went out with Herman's Hermits and we were told to shut up and get in the back of the bus. We were dignified people. We were artists."
Graham's opinions are fun to read. Who was the best act he ever saw? (Otis Redding) Who was the biggest pain in the neck? (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young).
Of secondary importance, but still fascinating, an added bonus really, are Graham's memories of his childhood escape from Nazi Germany. Most biographies are boring when the subject's childhood is discussed, but in this case, Graham's family was broken up during the Nazi era. Graham was a small boy and the only member of his family to escape to the United States. He was reunited with his surviving sisters after the war.

Book Description
Why has a nineteenth-century author with an elitist reputation proved so popular with directors as varied as William Wyler, François Truffaut, and James Ivory? A partial answer lies in the way many of Henry James's recurring themes still haunt us: the workings of power, the position of women in society, the complexities of sexuality and desire.
Susan Griffin has assembled fifteen of the world's foremost authorities on the writer to examine both the impact of James on film and the impact of film on James. Anthony Mazella traces the various adaptations of The Turn of the Screw, from novel to play to opera to film. Peggy McCormack examines the ways the personal lives of Peter Bogdanovich and then-girlfriend Cybill Shepherd influenced critical reaction to Daisy Miller (1974). Leland Person points out the consequences of casting Christopher Reevethen better known as Supermanin The Bostonians (1984) during the conservative political context of the first Reagan presidency.
Nancy Bentley defends Jane Campion's anachronistic reading of Portrait of a Lady (1996) as being more authentic than the more common period costume dramas. Dale Bauer observes James's influence on such films as Next Stop, Wonderland (1998) and Notting Hill (1999). Marc Bousquet explores the ways Wings of the Dove (1997) addresses the economic and cultural situations of Gen-X viewers. Other fascinating essays as well as a complete filmography and bibliography of work on James and film round out the collection.

Get in-depth technical information and tools to deploy and manage Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 - straight from the source. This official RESOURCE KIT provides Microsoft's most-requested set-up and support information in one comprehensive
Customer Reviews:
Very informative!.......2007-08-14
This book was invaluable when trying to upgrade our companies RIS server from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 and then to WDS from there.
Still good - years later.......2006-01-18
I write this review partially evaluating the information it contains, but also how it has held up over time. This book came out in late 2003 and it is now early 2006. A successor to Windows XP is already known, but that doesn't mean that Windows XP is on the way out or that companies will not just now be deploying that OS either for the first time, or redeploying as a refresh to encompass service packs, hotfixes and larger updated application suites, such as Microsoft Office. In short, a competent title covering the deployment of XP is still needed.
In short, everything you need to know about preparing Windows XP for deployment using the Microsoft approved and supported tools and methods is found inside. The authors cover in-depth the planning one should take within the environment to configure, deploy, and manage a desktop. You are instructed on the proper way to prepare the desktop for mass distribution, configure and run the utilities to ensure that the final OS image is not deployed duplicating network identification data, as well as running user state migration to transfer settings between builds. Distribution technologies, such as RIS and SMS are covered, although any commonly used third party utility, such as Symantec Ghost is not. There are also chapters dedicated to reviewing service pack and hotfix management, group policy management, as well as software updates (to Microsoft products, such as Microsoft Office 2003). And lastly, you are given a few different syntax guides to such things as SysPrep and Administrative Templates.
I believe, however, that this title could use a second edition. Even when it was released, some of the services covered were on their way out, and two years later, entire chapters of this book are now useless for many. For example, chapter 17 deals with distribution of XP via Microsoft SMS 2.0. Today, SMS 2003 is the standard and deployment of desktops and servers can be done using a feature pack. As the bulk of the Windows XP preparation has not changed, adding the SMS 2003 information would add a great deal of value. This book also talks about using Windows PE as a management OS for deployment. In 2003, WinPE was not available to many (and is still not, although that availability is on the rise and this book does point you to WinPE alternatives), although it is included and licensed in SMS 2003. The current WinPE section is still very informative, but a refresh overview to cover the changes in the more widely available version would be nice. The different service packs released for Windows XP also bring about new components of the OS as well as new generations of deployment tools, such as SysPrep. Again, although the current information is still very useful, a second edition could cover those changes to the OS and tools.
All things considered, this is still an excellent title and for the most part is as relevant today as when it was released. Administrators looking for an informational source on configuring and packaging the OS itself will find great value here, whereas those looking for information on the deployment mechanisms may need additional books / material in addition to what is presented here, especially if you are not planning on using Microsoft technologies.
The right tool for Desktop Deployment.......2005-02-25
If you are planning a massive desktop deployment than this is book you should use. I had no previous experience in doing an unattended install and this book walked me through the entire process following the distribution sample provided in Chapter 7. Mr. Honeycutt has left no stone unturned. His book gives you in-depth technical information and tools to deploy and manage Microsoft Windows XP Desktop. With it, you get prescriptive guidance to help choose the best deployment method and tools for common scenarios; perform attended and unattended installations; automate the deployment process, control policy and profile settings for desktop operating systems and applications; automate deployments for Office and other programs; and more. The book comes with a CDROM containing extra documentation, tools, sample templates, and scripts. Just add your Windows XP I386 files and half the battle is done. This is a great book and well written. Thanks Jerry for writing something for my simple mind!

a Clear and useful guide.......2004-08-17
The "Desktop Deployment Resource Kit" is exactly what I have been
looking for. Standardizing all of my desktops to Windows XP will be a challenge and the most challenging part seems to be honing in on what my team needs to know.
This book lays it out so you can read through topics quickly while keeping the big picture in play. When I begin my project I am sure it will be a constant companion to help me though some of the tough spots.
Thanks Jerry!
