If you are searching for a job or job options you owe it to yourself to invest in this book. In my book, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a rewarding and meaningful career." I reference previous editions of this book.

In addition, most authors on the subject of job hunting and career use this information. The only problem is these references are not very comprehensive. If you want comprehensive information on the job out look this book is for. Nearly a year ago, I bought Never Check E-mail in the Morning and implemented the practices prescribed throughout the book into our busy real estate office. We were drowning in in our crazy workloads, and struggling under the pressure of always being available to our clients. With e-mail and BBs you can never turn off, especially in real estate where it's completely client-based. Morgenstern's techniques really revolutionized the way we did business and helped us to better manage clients' needs and our own sanity. Her strategies are so practical and address all the problems of working in a 24/7 global market. I definitely recommend it!

A different approach to organizing for efficiency.......2007-06-28

I read this book with some trepidation since I've read lots of organizing and efficiency books over the years. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this one, since it offers nine "competencies" that all should master, and number one is "Embracing your work/life balance". With this as the foundation, she builds all other competencies on this one. So, when discussing competency three (Choose the Most Important Tasks) or competency five (Control the Nibblers), they aren't described as in typical efficiency/organization books. Typically, these types of tasks are encouraged to allow us to 'get more done', but in this book, taking control of these types of issues is encouraged to allow us to achieve the ultimate goal of work/life balance, instead of making us more efficient cogs in the corporate wheel.

A nice approach, and well done.

This book begins with a questionaire to rate your level of organization at work. I filled it out, scored it, and promptly donated it to my library. I am obviously more organized within my work environment than at home. Only buy this book if you are a mess at work and unable to complete projects on time.

This book gushes of leftovers. It is a very wordy read and doesn't get to any practical sort of information until the latter half, most of which is not only a repeat of earlier books, but also common sense stuff (this coming from someone who doesn't instinct-wise have a firm grasp on time management) that i have gleaned from many other sources, and in a more concise format. although her other books are great, i don't recommend this one.

I bought this book for myself, expecting to find some useful advice to help me organize my day a little better and to stay focused on priorities. I have been in management for 12 years and I expected this book to offer some new insights into time management and other daily challenges. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed and struggled to find some useful advice within the first half and have since put it down.

The book seems to target a junior audience with a certain type of personality that is more focused on fitting in and accommodating others, rather than those focused on leadership and results.

The book itself feels really cheap. I is printed on that cheap news-print paper like those crossword puzzle books.

I purchased this book for my dental practice and found that it was a waste of time and effort. The reading was dull and uninformative. I had the feeling that this author was not in tune with the times. The information was stale, and boring. My financial director found a better book that has controlled our delinquent accounts receivable,entitled COLLECT YOUR MONEY. Now this book is worth its weight in gold.

Author Leonard Sklar knows his stuff. From his background in collecting, managing collectors, as well as leading seminars on the subject, he shares a wealth of knowledge on the business of collections. As well as 'what to do', Leonard is right on in covering the areas 'you shouldn't go', or more particularly, waste your time. The chapter on training & motivating collectors is well worth the purchase price of the entire book.

After listening to Tupac ever since I can remember and reading The Rose that Grew from Concrete, I just couldn't get enough information on this legend. The artist born Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in the East Harlem section of Manhattan in New York City. But his family moved around alot and eventually, when he was 17, he moved to Marin City, California. Tupac's 1st album, "2pacalypse Now," was highly contreversial and didn't have any chart toping hits. But Tupac persevered and came out with "Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z." This album went gold and boasted some great tracks. But as Tupac's fame grew, attacks were sure to be made on him. On November 30, 1994, Tupac was shot 5 times in the Quad recording studios where the Notorious BIG was also recording. But Tupac had surgery and recovered. Tupac couldn't help but feel that Notorious BIG had something to do with it and a war between Notorious BIG and Tupac broke out. And on September 7, 1996, Tupac was shot 4 times in a drive-by shooting. Tupac stayed on life support for 6 days and died of cardiac arrest on September 13, 1996. And so died the 25-year-old lyracist and the world lost one of it's truly amazing occupants.

this was a interesting book it tells use about his whole life and story it includes pictures and when he died. it also shows all the times he has been aressted by the police and it shows his copy of the songs he wrote about his family and mom in prison and it is signed by tupac shakur it even shows wat the police did when he was drunk one night and they trippd him into a ditch and started baeting him intoa commma it was a very fascinating book and if you like it to you should get the movie.

This book is an autobiography about Tupac Shakur.It tells about his lifestyle, every song he wrote, anything that was important in this man's life is in this book.It shows jail pictures and everything you could ever imagine.

Very good book for adults and teens. If you like autobiographies, then this book is a must.Its a little expensive, but its worth the money.

I'm a senior in an independent reading class. I enjoy action and adventure novels as well as mystery and non-fiction books. As you can tell this book is non fictional book that tells the life and tragedies of Tupac Amaru Shakur. This book gives all the information you need about the life Tupac led as well as followed.

This book begins with giving background information on his mother and what she did and accomplished in her earlier years as a Black Panther. Not only was his mother a powerful and strong Black Panther but so was his father. His mother, Afeni Shakur, not only was a powerful and strong leader, but was also a motivational speaker.

Tupac's childhood was both bad and good. He grew up poor with no money, always moving around from place to place, ghetto to ghetto. This was both good and bad because nobody in this world wants to be poor, but his experience in those situations made him a stronger person. As he grew up he had no confidence because he knew he had nothing important in his life. Confidence didn't come until he became famous as a rap artist. During his career Tupac also got into a lot of trouble that involved gangs, fights, drugs, and many other things that got him into either jail or the hospital. Those experiences gave him the knowledge to do what he does best which is to rap and share those experiences with others.

Overall, most of the things Tupac did or accomplished in his life were for the good. Although he did bad things at times and got into trouble, the things he did helped people do certain things that they do today which is why this is a good book to read. This book helped me understand things in a different perspective.

I believe and know their is somethings better off left dead, but Makaveli is very important to the young and old with his passion and his relentless will to make the world a better place, especially for the youth of tomorrow. People in America is so blind to where they don't know if their going or coming. I think it's an excellent and everyone in America needs to read this book. Every Afrikkan American also needs to teach their children about the life of Tupac Amaru Shakur and his struggle for Black America to live in a better place of peace and hope. Well done job Drah!

Very good introduction and book.......2005-10-15

I loved this book, first of all the introduction is the most interesting presentation of AOP that I ever read.

The other chapters are very good too since based on use-cases very easy to reproduce on projects...

A book to have is you want to learn abour AOP (even if not interested by AspectJ per se...)

AspectJ In Action is a great AOP introduction.......2004-09-01

AspectJ In Action is a great book to use as an introduction to Aspect-oriented Programming. However, AOP is not for developers to whom Java and OO are still new. Without a comfortable understanding of classes, polymorphism, and encapsulation AOP will only further confuse things.

With that said, AspectJ In Action is a wonderful book filled with plenty of examples and explanations about the well-lit areas of AOP as well as many of the dark corners. I enjoyed reading this book because it starts out with the fundamentals and works its way to more and more complex uses of AOP without getting bogged down in language tangents. Also, the direct application of AOP in real Java design areas is very helpful in getting a better feel for when and how AOP can be applied.

I am looking forward to Ramnivas Laddad's next book!

Real uses for AOP.......2004-08-10

I met the author of this book this weekend, and saw him give a presentation on this material. Finally, a book that shows real uses for AOP.
I have been watching AspectJ since I first saw it about a year ago. My first impression was that it was 'cool', but was worried about giving developers more rope with which to hang themselves. Yes, it was cool, but the most practical examples you would see in demos were thing like 'logging'. I was worried that it would just lead more more ways for junior engineers to 'convolute the code', without bringing much benefit for that risk.
The material in this book, ALONG WITH the support the author had from the Eclipse IDE changed my mind. Finally, there were some real examples involving transaction support, JAAS, exception handling, and more. Furthermore, he addressed these topics in the real-world sense of refactoring existing code to prove his points.
If you aren't using an IDE that gives you some support, then I still have my concerns about 'convoluting' your code; but I am more convinced than ever that AOP concepts are worth putting into my mental toolkit. I have no doubt that the way aspects 'inject' behavior into code will reduce our development time, and make our code behave more consistently (no errors because of inconsistencies in the way common things are handled). If you can add one more ball to the things you 'mentally juggle' while developing, add AOP concepts. This book will help.

Best AOP book I have seen so far.......2004-05-11

I have got this book at local Austin Java User Group meeting. First impression: different cover. Most of Manning books are either greenish or almost black-and-white. This one is yellow.

Part 1 provides really good introduction into AOP. This is the first book I have read on AOP; all stuff I have seen before was online or magazine articles. One interesting fact is that this book took a while to consume, compared to the usual two-week cycle I have for technical books. I guess the reason is that the book has more substance than most of the techincal books and Mannigs does not try to pad their books with API references and other stuff that can be easily found online. After the chapter goes through AOP concepts, it explains AspectJ in application to those concepts. Basic syntax as well as some advanced techniques are explained.

Part 2 has examples of basic applications of AspectJ. Of course it starts with the mandatory logging implemented using AOP. Not a very good example in general, since logging is not really a cross-cutting concern, but works for illustration purposes. Other two application areas discussed in this part are implementation policy enforcement and optimization (pooling and caching examples). Policy enorcement part is really interesting, especially if you are into call patterns.

In general, every part follows the same pattern: first the author discusses the conventional approach, then explains challenges of the conventional solution, provides AspectJ-based solution, and gives one or two examples. Very clean language, easy to follow.

Part 3 discusses advanced applications of AspectJ. First it delves into design patterns and idioms of AOP; it's not by any means AspectJ-specific, so would be useful for any AOP implementation. Examples of patterns are providing thread-safe implementations using AspectJ, implementing security (very interesting discussion on JAAS), transaction management, and implementing business rules using AspectJ. The part ends with AspectJ usage in different development phases.

Two appendices: description of AspectJ compiler and Ant integration - only 15 pages for both. Useful as a reference.

Overall impression: an excellent book. Definitely worth reading, even if you are not into AOP yet.

Definitive source on AOP.......2004-05-10

I am a beginer in AOP and before I picked this book, terms like point cuts, advice sounded greek and latin to me. However after reading through the book, I now know exactly what AOP is and how to program using AspectJ.

AOP seems to have come of age and this book is excellent resource to come upto speed.

The book is divided into three parts.
The first prat introduces AOP, why AOP and about AspectJ in a very easy to understand manner. Best intro I have ever read.
Then it introduces the syntax of AspectJ

Second part introduces more advanced techniques and makes you really good at AspectJ.

Third part of the book is a real gem. Here you find, excellent and practicval uses of AOP in every day scenarios.

I am currently reading this part now and I feel confident talking to my boss to start using AOP at work.

A must read for anyone wanting to study AOP
