The Phenominal Jeff Buckley Caught in Pictures.......2007-06-11
I bought this book when it first came out and I still pull it off the shelf and marvel at not only the care that was expressed when being put together but also the beauty of each photograph. This book wasn't released to exploit the fans of this tragic artist in order to make a quick buck but was a well thought out pictorial of his experiences with Merri Cyr. Although I didn't order this book through Amazon, I still felt the need to comment on it because it is a stirring pictorial of a life cut much too short.

This book is artfully done--beautiful photographs of JB during his halcyon days in New York and on the road, captioned with interviews from friends/acquaintances who knew him best. Ms. Cyr is to be commended for having captured the spirit of this unique and beautiful person.

Author Amy Hammond Hagberg wanted to help teens--her own and others--answer questions about God, including the big question: "How do you know he's real?"
Hagberg wrote to sports stars, recording artists and other celebrities, asking them to reflect on their life experiences and share how the reality of God was making a difference to them personally and professionally. The responses she received--from NBA players, Christian musicians, 'American Idol' contestants and others--are honest, revealing, and often compelling.
The resulting book is a collection of celebrity essays: mini-bios that focus on the reality of God in the midst of media attention, success and failure, and broken relationships. God Unplugged by Ammy Hagberg was very interesting. It is 403 pages long and was published in 2006 by Destiny Image. In the story top athletes, musicians, and also stars tell how god helped them get where they wanted to be and changed their lives.
In the story there were 44 celebrity reflections on true life experiences with god. Many of these celebrities have been extremely low in their lives and god has pulled them out of them. Also in some cases they have had no luck in there lives and finally achieved their goals after they gave there lives god. All of these people believe that god has either given them opportunities or even the strength to work through where they were to get to where they want to be.
I thought that this was a good book. I enjoyed reading it and seeing how god has changed all of these people's lives. The strengths of this book are that it has top named celebrities that people actually want to read about. The weakness of this book is that there is nothing to find out nest so you don't have a reason to keep reading. I did like how god actually gave them the strength to continue and succeed in life. The writing was very boring to me, but I liked the idea.
The book gave a lasting effect on me because I have a saint Christopher necklace that my grandma gave to me before she passed away and that keeps me safe when I race motorcross. So, I think that god has a great power on us. I would recommend this book, it will make you think.

Truly, this, and the book before this, are really awesome books!
** Why?
Because they give some very good insights into other peoples way to God. Not only that, if you don't know the Bible inside and out (and even if you do, actually!), there are quotations from the Bible explaining the why and hows, depending on the story of the person interviewed.
All this, with Amy Hagbergs very nice way of writing (down to earth serious mixed with a nice blend of humor) makes this book a pleasure to read!
Personally, I strongly recommend this book to everyone. It might be those who Seek, or those who have found, it doesn't matter, in my opinion! :)

Even though most people wouldn't know what to call them,I can't imagine anyone who has not seen one and got a kick out of solving it. Quite simply, they are just a very simple sketch that can be drawn by anyone in a couple of seconds and represents something.The object is to determine what the Droodle represents.It's a little hard to show one ,but I'll give it a go;
A picture of an apple with 2 worms sticking out.
Ans.Worm taking date to dinner.
A large circle with 2 feet at the bottom.
Ans.Bubble Gum Champ.
Price gives some great comments on them. For instance on this one; "If you got this one,it shows you have a healthy attitude toward life and are fond of sports. However,if you prefer the alternate title:
Small Boy Throwing Baseball (at You).
you are apprehensive and nervous and should get a divorce and go live all alone in the mountains somewhere."
Or;
A square with a lot of dots beside it.

There is another simple puzzle which is quite similar.Virtually everyone has seen these,too. They are called Plexers and usually made up of letters or words.For example:

As you can see,this is simple stuff,that can be enjoyed by all ages. Simple as they seem when solved; sometimes you can rack your brains over them.Then there is also the possibility of multiple solutions. Why not take the solution and ask that a Droodle be drawn; the challenge increases immensely.

According to the previous reviewer Price was the inventor of the Droodle as an art form. The copyrights for this book go back to 1953 and I remember having a paperback by the same author on Droodles about that time. So,these fun little puzzles have entertained us for over 50 years;and still going strong.

The author, Roger Price, was a first-rank single-panel magazine cartoonist of the 'fifties, and he invented this art style--a great, funny time waster, and a neat gift book when you are fresh out of ideas and want some little thing to let that special someone with a sense of humor know that you are thinking of them.

Poodle Droodle will both captivate and teach a child........1999-06-28
Here is a book that a child will want to hear you read to him/her over and over, til they are mouthing the words with you. You know the kind of book i mean - Where the hero, in this case Poodle Droodle, faces danger and hardship with great grace and charm , and all comes out well in the end. I am a mom and a teacher, and this book is special because it is meant to teach. Each chapter has a number of objectives, and they are reviewed at the end of the chapter. This book is perfect, therefore, for both home and school use. I understand that many schools do use Poodle Droodle in their curriculum.......(examples of things taught are being wary of talking to strangers, not to hurt a child's feelings because they look different, etc.) Please feel confident that your children will adore Poodle Droodle, and at the same time learn many things that need to be specified. Sometimes adults assume kids know things. This book will clarify many things for small children. Uncle Mickey Clarke has written a very sweet book here.

This book gives alot of information, probably more than most will want to read. But if you can wade through all of it you will find some very useful information. It is very techinical information. It does however provide an indepth explanation of how viruses, hijackers, etc work and what you can do to protect yourself. Overall it is a great buy with very much useful info.
fighting malware.......2005-08-05
Tittel can certainly unsettle the reader! He warns of the increasing encroachments against your computer. The biggest single danger is that this might be your home computer. Not a computer at your workplace, for which you might be able to ask a sysadmin for help.
So it's you and Tittel against the 3 menaces. Be aware that the terminology in the text and title may vary from what others use. Often, malware is taken to include viruses. I think he chose to break viruses out separately from malware so that the title would outreach to more people. Malware is still somewhat of a techie term, while spyware and viruses have broader recognition.
Naturally, since we're discussing personal computers, the text tends to focus on those running a Microsoft operating system. But in fact, much of his advice applies to Macs and linux/unix machines. Though users of the former 2 types might take heart in knowing that most viruses or worms won't go after their machines.
Tittel explains that increasingly, it's harder to draw clear lines between malware, spyware and adware. But he shows how to use existing anti-malware products that can scan for these and remove them. These products use combinations of signatures of known malware, and also search for "strange" activity that is typical of malware. However, since new variants of malware are continually being developed and found, you should always download the latest sets of signatures from your vendor, before running the tests.
Tittel also gives a succinct description of phishing. A particularly virulent type of malware that has increased enormously in the last 2 years. He suggests that you scrutinise the links and be very wary of any message that asks for personal information; either in a reply, or in a web page pointed to from that message. Unfortunately, the phishers continue to refine their tactics and many users simply aren't savvy enough to follow Tittel's suggestions. These users may be a minority, but there are enough of them to make this worthwhile for the phishers.
