The recent financial crisis in East and South East Asia had sudden and painful consequences for millions of workers and their families. Falling employment and earning opportunities in the formal sector forced them to survive on reduced incomes, informal activities, and meager social assistance. The World Bank and the International Labour Office (ILO) collaborated to explore ways in which they could support the region's governments, employers, and workers in their response to the difficult social and economic situation.

Resulting from the collaboration, this joint study covers the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Institutions and Wage Formation in the New Europe addresses the role played by institutions in European wage formation with a focus on EMU and institutional change in labor markets.

Under this general heading there are three broad but distinct themes. The first emphasizes the role of institutions in affecting the dispersion of wages across occupational, age, skill, and industry and employment contract categories. The contributors make clear the profound effect that European institutions can have in influencing, and in most cases compressing, such pay differentials with consequent implications for the employment prospects of certain segments of the labor force. The second theme is the explanation for recent wage moderation in Europe. The contributions under this theme stress the role of developments in the bargaining systems of European countries and the presence of a number of temporary or specific factors, which have helped to bring about pay moderation. The final theme is the extent to which institutions are changing within Europe in the light of EMU and the adoption of new business practices.

This book will appeal to academics with an interest in labor markets and EMU issues, and also industrial relations specialists with an interest in institutional topics.

I did not know who John F. Callahan was until I picked up this book. His style hooks you almost immediately...hilarious! hilarious! hilarious! Here is WIT...If you do not get the "joke" it is because you aren't smart enough...Check out the one of the "A" Doctor trying to open his locked car door with a coat hanger! Most of the music in the book is extremely accurate.

The only thing that I have a problem with is the treble clef part. All of the songs have the melody written in on the treble clef, and it leaves out parts of the song that really help give it that Fiona Apple feel.

But other than that, Fiona Apple is an amazing songwriter and this book captures that well.

good to go on piano.......2003-02-13

This is the most used songbook I own, probably because Fiona Apple writes some incredible piano parts. The unique syncopations and rhythms that she wrote for Tidal are preserved and written in her piano score for the album. It's a refreshing change from other contemporary musicians who water down their music by releasing easier versions of their songs. So, while her music takes slightly longer to learn because of the wacky rhythms, it's definitely worth your time (and cash). Get it!

A Tidal Of Fiona.......2001-04-14

Fiona Apple is one of the most unknown brilliant singer/ songwriters. Her wonderful poetry and lyrics are beyond human nature. She sings with such delicacy and sensitivity. In this songbook of Tidal, you get to appreciate the time that she put into creating the music. Even though it was her debut album, Fiona made a lasting impression among the reality of heartbreak and rape. It lets you get passed the sullen girl and into the criminal.I highly recommend purchasing this book if you would wish to enjoy and play the music.

College textbook for use forever!.......2007-09-21

I purchased this book for my college Excel class - if you actually do the work contained therein, you will learn Excel! Also, it goes step by step - and the little steps are easy. The best way is to be working on excel as you read and do the projects - I am learning so much! FInally, I was one that bought books, took classes, and own the entire Video Professor Library (good product as well) but didn't retain the info I learned 10 seconds after I left. This is different. I will keep this book for reference long after my class is done.

Shelly Cashman series outdoes itself!.......2005-02-04

I had been using the Excel 2002 version of this book since last June...but when I recently upgraded to Office 2003, I wanted to upgrade to this version of book right away. I am not disappointed either. Within this book there are features such as Other Ways of doing things, such as opening Excel; other sidebar studies; more features to work with; more online materials, including links to Microsoft's free online courses. In this way...you can study only what was covered in the project. I really like the step by step pictures so I can make sure that I am doing everything right. Highly recommended! Just when I thought the Excel 2002 version was a great buy...along came Excel 2003! Good luck finding anything else comparable! I just got the best book I could get to supplement my certification training!
