Great fresh insight for job seekers but getting dated.......1998-09-17

As Thomas says in this book there are many reasons why a person would want to live in an area that is alive with opportunity. The attitude is different and half of making a successful career is being in the right place at the right time. This book demonstrates which areas will be better over the next 30 years. Honestly, I logged on to see if this book had been updated since statistics get pretty old in 5 years

Very Disapointed.......2007-01-06

I am learning music (theory, ear training, piano and sightsinging) on my own. I own one other book from the same publisher which I find very hepful. This one does not. It says it does not expect you to read music, and will teach you to, along with ear training and sightsinging. However, there is no CD, no answers to the exercises, and shortly into the book it tells you to play the music. How? Not a book for someone beginning with no instructor.

Complete Method for Singers? Close!.......2000-03-28

As a voice teacher and vocal coach I'm continually looking for new materials to help in the practical teaching of note reading and sightsinging. Mike Campbell's SIGHTSINGING - The Complete Method for Singers, while not being the 'God-send' it implies, has over-all proved to be a very useful tool. My students do get a little confused at times trying to use the number system of sightsinging, while also trying to count the beats in each measure. Also, there are a few errors in key notations and tones of the scale but nothing that would keep me from continuing to use this book. The ear training sections are excellent and the inclusion of Voice Range, Scales and Interval Charts are very helpful. I'll continue to purchase these books for my students and I feel that anyone with even a small amount of musical knowledge could work through this material successfully.

Not Sightsinging for Idiots.......2006-01-21

This book assumes you are already proficient in reading music and that you comprehend basic tenets of music theory. It is full of exercises for sightsinging and ear training, both of which do require practice and repetition. It would be a great book to use for a class but is more challanging to use on one's own.

Necessary for Cultural Studies / Q.T. Studies.......2003-11-12

This book provides extremely accessible material about a subject that is, by nature, highly inaccessible. His histories are clearly written and accurate. His analysis is as useful as it is interesting. Whether you are an old hand at theory and like to dirty your hands in cultural studies or a novice in the humanities with interests in the world in which you live, Mr. McLelland's book provides points of entry into a culture that is far away in distance and in essence that readers of all walks can appreciate. Very rarely can one say of scholarship that ir may provide something for everyone.

A well-written book.......2002-06-27

This book provides a straight-forward and well-written account of male homosexual culture in Japan. I use it as one text among many in a college-level course taught in Japan and have had good results with classroom discussions. Unlike many other works in queer theory and gay and lesbian studies, it is the sort of book that undergraduate students can read, understand and critique. As a sociologist, I am somewhat troubled by the small sample size McLelland employs in his descriptions of male homosexual culture, but the sample does represent a variety of lifestyles that allows McLelland to dispell prevalent images of homosexual men. Moreover, much of the book is an insightful account of representations of male homosexuality in media culture, with an unusally clear sociological critique. Overall, I recommend the book for readers interested in contemporary male homosexuality in Japan.

Too much of nothing.......2000-02-25

This is the guide for the Aberrant player to all the world. Most of the information is just there to fill pages. The book is divided on two sections, the first is some locations for the adventure, there are a lot of scenarios around the world with the famous Novas who live there. The second section is much better because it puts the wild sci-fi gamer imagination to the ground setting a halt to all assumptions about scientific advances, the world has changed in ten years but there are limits. Specially useful the section about super science or "if you want to break the rules how much it will cost me" for all the players who feel they are born geniuses. I would really first buy other books of the system before this one.

I'd say as a Production Coordinator I'm an intermediate user of Adobe Illustrator CS2. So I didn't need a book w/ too much basic training, although this book is pretty good ad providing you with the exact step-by-step procedures for carrying out certain "Killer Tips." This is a very good all-around book for Illustrator CS2. Above all, there are so many CS2 shortcuts in this book that the average CS2 user wouldn't know. I'd recommend this book to anyone that is looking to extend their knowledge of Illustrator. It's smart and succinct. It's comfortable to carry around - won't way you down, and best of all it's really inexpensive!

Killer Tips lives up to it's title.......2007-03-26
