I've seen others that this book doesn't have on youtube and other websites, and they show you the fingers doing it as well, but this is still a help to someone trying to develop a blues style. I recommend it.

This is a great resource for guitar players wanting to build a solid foundation for the blues. Not the best for beginners, these exercises are more for the intermediate musician who wants to polish their skills and to learn some traditional tricks of the trade. the other books in this series are equally as great. the cd's are very useful because you get the big picture from hearing the back up tracks.

If your blues lick vocabulary needs some punctuation work, as in the punctuation at the end of bar 12 of the blues, this book has you covered. A nice collection of licks that contain that satisfying resolition back the I chord.

Excellant book. A Blues guitar player must know a good number of blues turnarounds and there are over 70 of them here presented nicely all in this book. What I like about this book it just cover blues turnarounds and does not cover alot of topics which always end up confusing me. This will you show you some of the best turnarounds it even has a minor blues turnaround. These are two bar phrases. I'm glad they are easy to memorize. I'm plugging these in my blues progressions right away.

Read this book on its own or better still, with 'The Joy of Not Working'.......2006-03-24

I have owned this book for more than a decade, & have bought it about the same time as 'The Joy of Not Working'.

The guiding philosophies in both books have been my constant inspirations over all these years. Since retiring from active corporate life at the age of 43 in the early 90's, & running my own strategy consulting business, I have always made all my days creative yet rewarding, relaxing yet productive, healthful & yet fun, by using the hundreds of great ideas from both wonderful books.

In a way, I have allowed the playfulness I once experienced as a kid to gradually wend its way back into my retirement years.

I know so many corporate rats these days are caught up in the rapidly changing & highly-pressurised pace of work & life that they have lost touch with leisure activities. This particular book is certainly a unique resource for those who face this stressful problem.

Let me use the author's own exact words to recap the essence & the principal ideas of this particular book: "...Though the topic is leisure, the search for leisure wellness doesn't happen in a leisurely fashion. Overall, the book is entertaining & insightful. The writing style is straight talk, with plenty of question time for readers to ponder & reflect. The author has obviously given it a lot of careful thought, coupled with his own personal experience.

In conclusion, it is powerful guide for helping readers to improve their personal lives & lifestyles. From the first page to the end pages, it is jam-packed with worthwhile information. Let me end this review with an observation by ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus: "We are most nearly ourselves when we achieve the seriousness of a child at play."

No one their death bed ever said, "I wish I had spent one more day in the office." Waiting to play until you retire may be too late. We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing. The author offers advice for re-invigorating your leisure life.

Good study guide and reference.......2006-01-22

This is the only book I used to study for the exams. In the few areas where the book was weak on a topic, I sought additional information or clarification from articles I found on the Web. There are a few typos here and there, but nothing major. Overall, a good book.

Of course, the best testament to the thoroughness of the book for covering exam objectives is this: I can now add the letters 'SCSA' after my name. Thank you, Mr. Calkins.

Can a person be in love with a book?.......2005-10-13

Wow! I'm an intermediate Solaris Sys Admin. I used to be an SGI SA, but alas... not much call for that any more. I took the Sys Admin I and II classes at Sun to make it easier to switch to Solaris Admin. This book, at least as far as I've gotten so far, has so much more of the wonderful little details that help sys admins *really* understand what's happening on a system. Though I bought it in order to take the certification test, it's the Solaris 9 Sys Admin book I was looking for when I bought a whole bunch of other less than stellar Solaris books. Every Solaris SA should have this on their bookshelf.

Buying it for certification.......2005-09-21

I am in an intermediate class as we speak and so have the intermediate class notes. This is most likely all the training I can afford or my company can afford for now. I want to pass the
14 and 15 exams next year.

My instructor Mr. Menendez recommended I get an Ultra 60 as a study machine. So after my other studies will try to get pass these exams next year. After reviewing the other books, will buy this one. I have class notes for ess and intermediate so I am ready. SO armed with this book and exam cram, some good practice questions, away I go. An Ultra 60 is about $400. I plan to be a beginner Sun administrator.

So sometime in 2006 after I pass (or not pass :)) these exams will come back and update my review.

I passed the first of two tests - this book helped, not my only source.......2005-08-13

I passed the first of two tests. Now studying for the second test. I did not use this as my sole source for study (I ALWAYS use more than one source for my certifications and recommend this highly).

I found this book quite helpful - I read the preface/suggestions it offfered for study and used that format for this book.

The questions were helpful to me in identifing weak areas I needed to re-read. I liked the detail and background it went into - including how he included material that he (believed) not to be on the test, yet important enough for a system administrator to know.

I liked the author's style of writing, and found it was not boring or laborous to digest. I would recommend it to others and am using it as one of several sources as I prepare for the second half of the exam.

Good One for Certification.......2005-06-29

This book helped me to clear 310-014. Now I am preparing for 015. I have seen Solaris Certification books without Printer portion. But this one covers all the areas and will be worth for you.
