I am just entering the paralegal field and was looking for an advantage while job searching; I purchased this book with that hope in mind. When this book was published in 1986, I am sure it was a good reference. Laws regarding employment questions have changed, and the examples given in this book are very out of date. I found the book, "How to Land Your First Paralegal Job," to be an excellent resource. I would recommend that book over this one. I think this book should be revised or taken off the market.

Despite the centrality of labor in Karl Marx's writing, a theory of human subjectivity remains remarkably undeveloped in communist science. Utilizing recent developments in Marxist theory, this book develops a theory of human sociability through the labor theory value. Writing against orthodox Marxism, the book exposes human practice as a dynamic and contradictory form of value in motion. This theoretical exposition is illustrated and developed by reference to research into the internationalization of labor in New Zealand and Argentina, a reassessment of the role of women workers in Russia and Canada, and the racialization of sections of North American labor. It concludes by arguing that through the process of global humanization, human life is not only struggling against the insitutional forms of capitalist power (money and the state) but also struggling against itself. Human emancipation therefore demands the abolition of human life in its current condition and the recomposition of a social world within which human life is the project and not the resource.

Good for KISS fans; it'll make sense of their history.......2007-08-20

As others have said, this book will help you make sense out of some of the aggravating career decisions that KISS has made over the years. For example, why so many "greatest hits" collections? Because they were tapped out financially, and needed an infusion of cash to keep them from going bankrupt. Partly, the members of KISS overspent their personal fortunes, but mostly the band overspent their corporate fortunes by insisting on appearing "larger than life" every time they went on tour.

So I thought it was a very insightful read. And, it doesn't really contradict the image Gene and Paul have projected over the years. In other words, all their talk about who was "in" and who was "out" of the group, and why. And so on. We always suspected there was more to it than Gene and Paul let on, and we were right. But none of this really invalidates the bits and pieces they've told us in recent years.

Worth the money if you're interested in KISS or the rock 'n' roll business in general.

HONEST.......2007-05-23

I think this is the most real-deal warts and all depiction of what the real Kiss was and is. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan, but I know each of the original guys has their own foibles. I was not surprised by the revelations in here. If anything, I gain more & more respect for Paul. I don't think Lendt was being vindictive or anything, just honest.

Good Book.......2006-07-29

Initially I thought this was going to be a 'put down' kinda book, but it wasn't. It was written well, and I definately got the sense the writer was honest. He did 'cut' on the members a couple of times, by showing their 'human' side, but all in all, we are all human, and I'm sure no one is perfect. This book definately goes into the gut of any big band of the time. The tours and money and the machine that runs the group. Four guys from NYC that ended up being the king of the music industry and the first to hit it big with merchandising. The management, laywers, roadies, groupies, its all here. If you are a KISS fan, I would definately say this book is a must, and even if you are not a KISS fdan, but liked the music of the time, this is a good book to get an 'inside' look of how things were done. I still love KISS music and this book was just another side which is rarely written about or discussed.

Good Insight From A Different Perspective.......2005-07-09

It was intersting to read a book on Kiss that told their incredible story from the perspective of people who worked with the band rather then in the band; people that had a professional and financial interest.

C.K. Lendt provided management services for Kiss during much of the supergroup's heyday and takes readers deep into some very interesting affairs that will shock and possibly revolt some readers. "Kiss And Sell" is not some cheesy gossip laden trash where the author is trying to cash in on knowing a few celebrities. No this book is far from that. Here we learn about the biggest band in the land, straight from a man who was largely responsible for their growth; a man who was instrumental in marketing them.

Sales people would do well to read this. Marketing and sales go hand in hand. Not to many products are marketed as well as Kiss was. Here's how it was done.

The myth WAS true.......2004-07-02

BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU WANT AN INSIDE LOOK AT KISS THAT IS TAMED DOWN FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION.

Chris Lendt explains how KISS played every business card they could: He includes quotes from the guys in KISS saying things like "We're not really a good band" and "This business isn't about making good music, it's about making PROFIT!" True, in their day, KISS sold not only records and concert tickets but T-shirts, toys, lunchboxes, coffee cups, you name it! You could buy it with a KISS logo on it, and the profits went right into accounts managed by KISS's crew of accountants and lawyers. How ironic: In one of Gene Simmons's songs he claims to have been "born and raised" in New York; in fact he was born in Israel, and his real name is Chaim Witz.

So money was the name of the game, but that certainly comes as no surprise. KISS AND SELL describes the rise and fall of this group, with extra effort to convince the reader that any crooked behavior was done by somebody OTHER than Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. At least a half dozen times, the author of the book says that neither Simmons nor Stanley drank alcohol, did drugs "of any kind," and didn't even smoke cigarettes. Ho-kay, pal... Just given the on-the-road stories he tells in the book, there's no way Gene and Paul never did dope. No chance. And as for cigarettes, How about from the song "Detroit Rock City": "First I drink/Then I smoke"? I myself saw Paul and Gene smoke on stage! It's pretty clear the author wants to keep his friendship with KISS alive. That's fine, though; this book has some great stories in it, and certainly captures the spirit of what I believed KISS was always about: C-A-S-H.

A thinly researched book with very little hard information, written in the sort of double talk that fifth graders use when forced to write a long term paper on a subject that they haven't looked up. Not even informative enough to be titillating, the book is interesting only for the author's ability to stretch common knowledge and his own guesswork out to 319 pages.

I have to agree with most of the other reviewers. The writing style is very much like a college paper -- very wordy and repetitive. I don't think anyone could actually read this book, but instead you'll skim it in a couple of hours. It's somewhat interesting, but contains nothing titillating, nor does it contain any specifics on any particular escorts.

Matt Adams's book has lots of useful tidbits, especially about etiquette and issues of safety. The quotes from the escorts themselves are interesting.

The text is choppy and repetitive. He should hire an editor.

I've got to second the comments about the writing style detracting from the book. It's like a 5000-word student essay with 1000 words worth of material. Lots of stretching and repetition.

Very Poor Writing Detracts from Intriguing Topic.......1999-03-19

This is one of the worst "books" I have ever encountered. In the traditional sense, it is not a book at all, in that there is no publisher and thus, no editor. As Adams explains, he started with an outline and "worked on each section depending on my mood." He must have, or as he would say, "must of," been in a very sour mood during the entire process. This book reads like a high schooler's English paper where the procrastinating student tried his best to meet the minimum word requirement. The repition is tedious. The excess verbiage is smothering, and consists of distracting personal rememberances, unqualified assertions ("most people don't have the metabolism to have this sort of body {6' 200 lbs.} at a young age {21}"), the obvious ("most {legitimate} massage therapists will not discuss penis size"), and the really obvious ("Hair color tends to come in blonde, light or dark brunette, black, and red"). Mr. Adams needs to learn that being able to type is not the same as being able to write, and having a good word processor is not the same as having a good publisher. Any competant undergraduate journalism major could have taken what is obviously thoroughly researched and fascinating material and produced a better product. In its current form, it is essential unreadable.

This is a beautifully illustrated book that sheds new light on dwarves, as hard as that may be to do. New clanheart feats, stoneblood powers, prestige classes that are actually useful and fun (such as the thunderthrower) and great flavor text, this is a book that just makes you want to make a dwarf character. Highly recommended.

But it is a great resource for people who work at design firms, ad agencies, and publishing houses where they work with multiple CS programs when creating designs. It addresses issues that arise everyday for the working designer or design student.
