Finally, a resume book for jobs that do not require a college education. The book has 171 resumes for jobs such as master cake decorator, clerical office worker, plumber, cruise line customer service. It has a helpful section telling how to get around difficult problems such as job gaps, lack of experience, a spotty education record, and age discrimination. It is readable and encouraging.

This resource is a gold mine. As an employment consultant I have found Parker's book to be practical, realistic and extremely helpful, especially since I primarily work with the Blue Collar sector. If you are experienced in writing your own resume, this book offers great tips on polishing it and if you are new to the resume process, Parker also takes you through it step by step in a manner both instructional and interesting. This should be on every employment consultant's bookshelf. Easy to read and easy to understand; simple but not simplistic.

There is already a large consensus in Slovenia for involving the private sector in communal infrastructure financing. However, there is presently no global strategy for translating this consensus into practice. The purpose of this study is to contribute toward a better understanding of communal infrastructure investment issues in Slovenia, especially the main bottlenecks in this area, and to discuss policies aimed at increasing the volume of communal infrastructure investment. Within this general framework, this study has the following three specific objectives: 1) to give an overview of the existing institutional, legal, and regulatory environment for communal infrastructure development, with a special focus on the financial performance of communal infrastructure service providers; 2) to provide a detailed analysis of communal infrastructure investment both for investments made over the last few years and those planned for the next medium-term period; and 3) to briefly discuss suggested policy measures for increasing the volume of communal infrastructure investment. This study is based on responses to a detailed questionnaire on communal infrastructure investment, filled out by a representative sample of local communities in SloveniaAnother important source of statistical data is financial statements for the 19 communal sector enterprises providing communal services in the 26 local communities covered in the survey sample.

The phenomenal stardom of Andrea Bocelli is striking from several angles. Antonia Felix's book will certainly be of great appeal to those fans, with its attractively produced collage of text and photographs. While there aren't exactly any new revelations, Felix has culled together a number of sources to give us an intimate picture of Bocelli in his most important contexts. After a brief narrative of his childhood and the accident that accelerated his growing blindness, we learn of Bocelli's struggle between practical common sense (in the form of the law career he successfully began) and his dream of making a life centered on music. How the latter came to be--through Bocelli's beginnings as a casual lounge singer, his chance association with Italian pop artist Zucchero, and other similar encounters--has an almost fairy-tale aura in Felix's retelling. We also learn of the central importance of Bocelli's family life, his Catholic faith, and his philosophy of determined optimism.

Felix provides some background on Italian operatic tradition to help place Bocelli in cultural context. There are thumbnail sketches of such figures as Verdi and Puccini and discussions of their importance for Bocelli; readers unfamiliar with operatic history but attracted to this aspect of Bocelli's career will find them helpful. This isn't the kind of biography that gives all relevant perspectives: in her discussion of one pivotal moment of Bocelli's career--his performance in La Bohème in 1998--Felix blithely passes over the negative press accounts and the substance of their criticisms. The tone throughout is rather that of a glowing admiration for her subject. That said, Felix writes in lucid, unfussy journalistic prose, and though a more thorough consideration of the Bocelli phenomenon remains to be written, her portrayal will be of great interest to fans who know the singer only from his presence on disc. The Man Behind The Voice of An Angel.......2002-07-22

"My blindness has never been a tragedy to me; I don't know why it should be a tragedy to others." This quote by Maestro Bocelli, out of many that are included in this interesting and well-written biography, cogently defines the man behind the beautiful voice.

The author, Ms. Felix, takes the reader on an interesting journey. Her writing style is very engaging and educational, especially for those new to classical music. From his birth with a rare form of congenital glaucoma, all the way to White House to sing for President Clinton, Andrea Bocelli's story has the aura of a fairy tale. But the author firmly grounds the reader in reality. Maestro Bocelli is now a famous man; however, we see his life before and after, and perhaps come away thinking that it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

From his childhood in the hills of Tuscany, through his years in Pisa for law school, we see the struggle of a young man who never allowed his blindess to close his vision of the world. The author's recounting of his law school years, along with his early forays into piano bars, was very intriguing. The story how he met his wife, Enrica, will captivate the reader with its candor, along with his feelings after their first meeting. "When she touched my hand, I knew I had met the love of my life."

Many would say that Maestro Bocelli, a former public defender, was lucky to achieve his fame. One of his countless demo tapes fell into the hands of the manager of Italian pop vocal star, Zucchero, who was looking for a tenor to accompany him on a certain song called, "Miserere." His inital choice was Maestro Luciano Pavorotti, who after hearing the demo, could not believe it came from an unknown piano bar singer. In the end, the Maestro told him, "This guy Bocelli will sing it better than anyone." And with that endorsement, the path was paved for Andrea Bocelli to become a household name in Europe.

This is a very vivid tale about a determined man. The reader may get the impression that he would prefer to sing to his horse, Gisele, rather than combat his admitted stage fright in front of his passionate fans. Or perhaps take to the slopes with gold medalist, Alberto Tomba, who taught Maestro Bocelli how to ski. Or parachute out of a plane on a dare. But this is a rare man with a lifelong passion for singing, and the author paints a complete portrait of him. The reader will come away with an added respect for the man with the angelic voice.

This is a beautiful book, well written and lavishly filled with wonderful pictures of Andrea and His family, surroundings and special events. This book gives a nice short history of Bocelli's life and a detailed look at his musical career, it is very much a good biography and a good history of Bocelli, it is a good sister book to Andreas auto Biography "The Music Of Silence" which is really detailed about Andrea youth up to his young adulthood and gives his thought's about all the important events of his life, but is not detailed about his career. Felix's book Besides covering HIS Career up To 99 in Great detail she also gives us a nice understanding about those who influenced Andrea musically (the greats of Opera) and about Opera itself. I also agree with the last reviewer it is a nice coffie table book due to the size and the beatiful pictures. Together the books (Andrea Bocelli : A Celebration by Antonia Felix and The Slience of Music : Andrea Bocelli) give a great picture of ANDREA in so many ways, and are a must for every Bocelli fan.

BOCELLI TOUCHES THE SOUL LIKE A GENTLE BREEZE IN SUMMER.......2001-07-05

Who could not possibly hear the strains of "Con Te Partir" from Romanza and not be filled with emotion. Andrea Bocelli is one of the world's most outstanding artists of all time. His voice is like a gift from Heaven sent on the wings of angels, and his charisma is magnetic and empowering.

There has been more than one book written on this extraordinary man; however, I found this one to be filled with more passion and exuberance than others. The reader will learn of Bocelli's faith, childhood, the accident which contributed to his blindness, his encounter with Zucchero (an extremely well-known Italian artist) and his rise to fame. The only flaws with the book are minor; while there are some coloured photographs, many are in black and white which rather distracted from the quality of the book. In addition, the author was rather vague in some parts, leaving the reader feeling that book is not entirely complete. However, the book is still an interesting account of how this talented artist achieved such acclaimed stardom and world-wide adoration.

David Pulver is a marvellous and prolific author, a true credit to the game industry. It therefore comes as no surprise that Alien Races 1 lives up to his usual high standards of excellence. The Zhodani and Vargr are put under the microscope in this tome, examined carefully with a wealth of detail that goes far beyond the original Alien Modules. Homo Zhdotlas is scrutinized in all its psionic glory... the perfect society, carefully regulated by the helping hand of the Thought Police is examined in careful, and one could say objective detail. Utopian or sinister? Its written so well you'll be hard put to decide. The enigmatic, chaotic Vargr are also treated well. Here Pulver carefully explains the personal charisma and pack mentality of the 'Wolves of Space', giving a thorough and very believable overview of why the Vargr "rule" the sprawling, disorganized extents with a patchwork of independent governments, constantly rising and falling. Three other minor races are presented, including the Sheol and Clotho ... and a bonus section on psionics, firming up the Psi rules in GURPS Traveller, rounds off this book.

What can I say? This is an excellent addition to the GURPS Traveller legacy, and an essential aid to any GM running a game in the Spinward Marches. 5 stars, no question.

dissapointed.......2007-10-05

this book was supposed to be the definitive exam guide.after reading it cover to cover i am a dissapointed.
1. there are a few factual(trivial but still...) errors.
2. the book progression is flawed, the first chapter(xp instalatn) for example refer constantly to concepts and procedures not yet learned and assume that you already now them. these concepts, terms and procedres are explained further on other chapters, but in my opinion it would have been better to start with basics and progress deeper.
3. at places the information is LESS then what is required in the exam.

over all though its a detailed book , but one that should have been better proof read and better planned

Up to the Task.......2007-05-15

If you want to learn about installing, configuring and administering XP Professional on a network, I think this is a very good book to have. This book prepares you to take exam 70-270. It covers the material very thoroughly with twenty chapters devoted to theory and seven chapters devoted to practicing for the exam. Actually, the last seven chapters were very helpful in learning the subject. These chapters present questions covering all objectives of the exam with an explanation of both the correct and the incorrect answers. You need to be aware that the questions don't simply cover material presented in the first twenty chapters. Quite to the contrary, they present new information that adds to your knowledge base. The questions were of high caliber being verbose and somewhat difficult. This is what you want to prepare for the exam.

As a bonus the enclosed CD offers hundreds more questions using the MeaurseUp testing engine. I found the questions to be very good. They were difficult and required a bit of thought to answer. They also include good explanations for both the correct and incorrect answers - very helpful for learning. But, I must say that several of the questions were wrong - only a few, and there were way too many typographical errors. I really think that MeaurseUp (the company producing the question engine) needs to vet their products better.

Overall, I found the book and CD combo to be a great value.

As a side note, XP Professional will remain relevant for some time to come. It is true that at this time Vista has been out for five months now, but many businesses will not upgrade immediately and many will just clone XP to their new machines. So you still need to know XP perhaps while learning the new OS on the block.

You want to study other resources in preparation for this or any exam. I found that answering questions and noting the explanations for the answers is a very good way to master the subject. I researched many Web sites that offer practice exams for a price. It appears that the two I would recommend are also the two that Microsoft recommends, that is, MeasureUp which you get for free on the CD, and SelfTest.

Misleading Information.......2007-05-04

Good book to just "pass" the exam. If you're really into learning the right way of doing things this book blows. This book is filled with information that is not correct and really will make you more confused when you try it out. Remeber that "best practices" help you pass the exam, but they do not teach you anything for the real world. I would go with the Sybex 270 personally. Much better.

Great book to get you started, need the blue beast still..........2006-10-16

Ok,

So this book is GREAT to get you started. It's super easy to read from front to back. It really gives you the best scenarios to help you easily start to understand and comprehend what they are teaching. The practice tests are OK, but you will find the actual test's questions a lot harder. I definitely recommend this book, but at the same time, recommend the Microsoft "Blue Beast" book, which isn't as easy to read, but goes a bit further into the technical aspects of certain things, which will help. Plus the practice tests on the microsoft book are a lot more like what you will see on the actual exam.

I didn't use the blue book as much as I should have, used mainly this book, and the fast pass. I Passed with a 778.. not great, but it's a pass none the less.

I am a current MCSE NT 4.0 going for my MCSE 2003 with 10 years experience.

This book did well in covering most topics for the exam. I passed with a 905 after two weeks of studying. There were questions on the exam that I would not have known just from reading this book. Questions relating to bluetooth were not covered in this book. Overall it was a good study guide.

okay, now that thats over with, I must say, this book is awful. maybe its the way its presented in class, or something, but this book REALLY has no use to those who want to work at a home users FAQ thingy. why??? becuase 99% of the book is devoted to.. you guessed it, THE CORPORATION!!! I mean, WHO acutally needs ten monitors lined up to view one screen? thats insanely stupid, and quite frankly, I find the whole... THING atrocious. buy it, and burn it. its the best you can do.

Yes, I passed the test but not with the score I thought I would receive. I ended up with a disappointed 794. I read this book as well as the Exam Cram book thoroughly. In addition, I have four year experience as a PC technician. One might then inquire as to why the low score. The answer is this: the 70-270 test does not solely test your knowledge on Windows XP alone, as it should since there are separate tests for server, network management, active directory, etc. You must have experience with Windows 2000/2003 server and Active Directory to get anything above an 850. You will need to have an understanding of Group Policy (which is a server topic), Login Scripts (also a server topic) and Active Directory (which is a separate test itself). Fortunately, I was able to get through it from the minimal experience I received from setting up a practice LAN with 2003 server with Active Directory installed. However, I did not think that I would be tested on Windows Server or Active Directory, therefore, didn't study them. If one were just to study this book as well as Exam Cram with no experience with 2000/2003 server, they would surely fail the test. However, if you want to have a descent insight into XP Professional, this is a great book.
