I thought this book would be a good reference to see great styles and get ideas but was disappointed. I don't know what they based their career field selections on but of the 1000s of jobs, 202 isn't that many. Stylistically, most of the examples seem to go against the advice of other resume books and were not impressive. I did find a few helpful ideas from 2 or 3 of the resumes and it helped somewhat just to read through that many butit would be better for someone whose career choice happens to be in the book and the example they have is for someone at the same level.
Best Resume Samples and Advice Of All.......2004-04-30
Just received this book and it really delivered. It's got over 200 samples, though I really only cared about the ones in my industry, healthcare. There were also some good letter samples I'll use. The advice on how to research a company and position yourself to line up closely with a posted position was helpful. I'd never done it as specific as they recommend. Anyway, of the books I've seen at the bookstore and read briefs online, this one was a great value. Good luck !

This book promised to explain how to write a good cover letter instead of just giving examples, but the explanations were simplistic and very repetitive. The examples were ok, and I think it did have some good points, but overall too simplistic to be worth buying. I got basically the same information on cover letters out of the one chapter on cover letters in Job Hunting for Dummies. However to be fair this book did have info on approach and thank you letters which I had not heard yet.

The best resume book I've used!.......2000-07-26
As a recent college graduate writing my first real resume, I found this book tremendously helpful. It takes you through the whole process step-by-step and covers everything from writing your resume and cover letter, to having a successful interview, to writing thank you notes. It even includes a chapter on the electronic/e-mail and scannable/keyword resumes (both of which are totally necessary in today's high-tech job market). There are also some great lists of "power words" and keywords that make employers really take notice of you. Plus, the resources section in the back of the book gave me some good ideas of where to begin my job search. Overall, this is the best and most complete resume writing tool a recent college grad could have.

Paying the Doctor explores this dilemma as it relates to the health care field. If you're a music student at almost any major school (I just finished my undergraduate at Indiana University, for example) you'll most likely need to take a course that uses these CD's as part of its history survey. For that purpose, this set is an excellent collection. These, with their companion Norton Anthology of Western Music, and in conjunction with Grout/Palisca's History of Western Music, make for a thorough survey of the roots and history of Western music. Both the History and the Anthology use these CD's, and make constant references to them. (At least, up until 1750, after which you'll need the second volume)
Having said that, however, i'm afraid that these CD's are limited to their intended purpose. Obviously, there would be absolutely no way to have a comprehensive collection of music and text be affordable to an average college student. As it is, the Grout, Norton, and CD's total about $200 total. However, for that cost they provide an extremely good survey of Western music. A student can follow historical developments through the music, and learn an enormous amount from these CD's. They provide a fairly good cross-section of different styles of major composers, and even a few examples of lesser known composers. One is far less likely to criticize the music of the twentieth century, for example, if one finds that Gesualdo (of the late 16th century) was writing music that was MUCH stranger than anything before the turn of the twentieth century.
For someone outside of the music school (who will most likely be required to buy these anyway), these are also an excellent (and comparatively affordable) way to survey the mainstream and less-mainstream trends in Western music. The recordings are all relatively high-quality, often using historical instruments and interpretations (something important to a student of musical history) and providing a good introduction to classical music.
For that reason, then, i recommend these to the casual listener as a good introduction to Western music. If you seek a "greatest hits" album, these are not that; go buy those Time-Life things they advertise on television. This is rather a serious collection of music from as many different styles as allowable while still maintaining some depth. The only thing that keeps the fifth star empty is the lack (by necessity, though i must admit) of a more wide-ranging selection of music. Despite that, they are still an excellent buy. The casual listener of classical music should find these to be a valuable introduction to the well known, and also the more obscure realms of early music.

This collection is a great tool for anyone involved in music history. It contains music from the best composers of every major era of music, from Ancient Greece to Twentieth Century. True, the selections are shorter and fewer than in the other two Norton Anthology volumes, but this collection contains the best of each of those. The Concise Norton Recorded Anthology is definately the one to chose if you only want four comprehensive CD's instead of twelve.
Since this collection contains such a variety of music, there is a song for whatever you are in the mood for: sad, happy, thought-provoking, you name it. While this book is not full of product information for administrators, it serves the purpose that it was intended for...showing you how to programmatically automate ESX and VirtualCenter tasks.
The book limits the use of shell scripts and command-line tools, opting more for object-oriented programming languages. A thorough walk-through of code for both ESX 2.5.x/VC 1.x as well as ESX 3.x/VC 2.x is included in the book, with samples in VB, C#, Perl, and Java. I particularly liked the explanation of the SDK web service architecture and the idiosyncrasies of consuming the web service with typical SOAP clients.
If you're thinking about creating custom software to interact with VMware products or you simply want to write custom scripts to ease administration, this is a great reference book for you!
was the time to short?.......2006-12-14
like nearly every VMware administrator or consultant I couldn't wait for the release of this book. After a delay to the first announcement of about 7 months I hoped to get a book including all news about VI3 too.
But the whole book seems to be a patchwork, mixing ESX2/VC1 and VI3 mostly without a comment at what version the reader is. It's quite obvious that some of authors have written their chapters at ESX 2 times without updating to ESX 3 like chapter 7 (backup).
Some of the chapters are really useless like the first kickstart chapter, which doesn't contain any news beside the manual, even rather the screenshots are from an old beta version I think and it's not mentioned that you must change a xml file to make the kickstart generator available.
Not one new esxcfg- commands of ESX3 is even mentioned!!! You are searching without success for the backup scripts like vcbmounter.
Most scripting example or tips can be found for several month or even years (like APC Powerchute installation) within the VMware forum.
Many people begin to use python or java for scripting VI3 - yes, you don't even find the letter j in the index!
The only fact I'm giving two stars instead of one are the scripting chapters for VB .net and the downloadable scripts from the syngress website if you own that book.
