Not So Hot for Doctors...........2001-08-30
While I must admit I did not READ the entire book, I did give it a fairly thorough skimming. As a physician preparing to start my job search I found this book to be minimally useful. The cover boldly proclaims that the book contains model resumes for DOCTORS, etc. Truth is there is not a single model resume for a physician/doctor to be found in this book. From my point of view I really wanted give the book 1 star, but I suppose there is some useful information here for nurses, technicians, and others involved in health care. The false advertising on the cover really burns that part of me next to where I usually keep my wallet. M.D.'s and D.O.'s look elsewhere!
great resource book for writing your resume!.......2000-02-17
I found this book very helpful when revising my resume 3 years ago. I combined several of the styles presented to put together a very dynamic resume. A great investment for certain!

Book Description
“Diversity” has become a mantra in corporate boardrooms, higher education, and government hiring and contracting. In Identifying Talent, Institutionalizing Diversity, Jiannbin Lee Shiao explains the leading role that large philanthropies have played in establishing diversity as a goal throughout American society in the post–civil rights era. By creating and institutionalizing diversity policies, these private organizations have quietly transformed the practice of affirmative action. Shiao describes how, from the 1960s through the 1990s, philanthropies responded to immigration, the recognition of nonblack minority groups, and the conservative backlash against affirmative action. He shows that these pressures not only shifted discourse and practice within philanthropy away from a binary black-white conception of race but also dovetailed with a change in its mission from supporting “good causes” to “identifying talent.”
Based on three years of research on the racial and ethnic priorities of the San Francisco Foundation and the Cleveland Foundation, Shiao demonstrates the geographically uneven impact of the national transition to diversification. The demographics of the regions served by the foundations in San Francisco and Cleveland are quite different, and paradoxically, the foundation in Cleveland—which serves an area with substantially fewer immigrants—has had greater institutional opportunities for implementing diversity policies. Shiao connects these regional histories with the national philanthropic field by underscoring the prominent role of the Ford Foundation, the third largest private foundation in the country, in shaping diversity policies. Identifying Talent, Institutionalizing Diversity reveals philanthropic diversity policy as a lens through which to focus on U.S. race relations and the role of the private sector in racial politics.

Man's Unofficial Guide to the Use of his Garage.......2007-07-16
Man's Unofficial Guide to the Use of His Garage contains an outline of what the perfect garage would look like and contain. This information not only includes the tools needed and advice on how to keep your garage organized but also structural and electrical tips for ease of use and security. All of the suggestions come directly from the author's own experiences of trial and error.
If the reader followed the advice in this book, he would have an amazing space with all sorts of useful tools and a few expensive toys. The author divides the tool sections into must have, should haves, wanta haves, and forget its. These categories show the priority level of each item spurring the reader to start collecting these things and start creating a garage that other men will drool over while efficiently reducing time needed to complete irritating honeydos so that he can spent more time on the golf course.

Book Description
This well-organized, visually interesting book offers an in-depth examination of the social history of rock-and-roll. Rockin' in Time emphasizes several main themes, including the importance of African-American culture in the origins and development of rock music. Tracing rock from its inceptionfrom American blues to the presentthis book shows how rock-and-roll has reflected and sometimes changed American and British culture for the last fifty years. Topics covered in this comprehensive history are: the blues and racism; Elvis Presley and rockabilly; Dick Clark and Don Kirshner; the California sound; Bob Dylan; the British invasion; Motown; acid rock; campus unrest and militant blues; the 1970s; punk rock; MTV; Generation X; the rave revolution; hip hop; and nu-metal. An excellent reference work for music industry employees, those employed by radio stations, and those in music and performer-related marketing.

Rockin' in Time.......2007-10-04
This item was received in a matter of a few days. The item was in very good qualities. The book is very informative and intertaining.
Excellent book.......2007-07-13
I have this book for a class on the social history of rock and roll, and it's such an easy and interesting read that I find myself reading the non-required parts. Very informative and to-the-point.
Incredibly poor, inaccurate work........2005-04-29
I originally had to read this book for a History of Rock and Roll class at the University of Cincinatti. I found the subject interesting, and the professor gave wonderful lectures. I had good expectations about this book going in, but those quickly soured as I read it.
It seems correct, at least, about the social problems of the different eras and their relation to rock. Not that such is a particularly daunting feet.
However, it is rife with laughable fallacies. For instance, it calls David Bowie, amongst other glam rock bands of the era, metal. It futher goes on to call many pop bands of the 60s and 70s rock, when they have no guitar work and no bass line at all, such as the Carpenters.
I really had a good laugh when they called Bad Religion hardcore. Bad Religion is about as hardcore as Elvis is rap. Further massive genre confusion consisted throughout the entire book.
I also noted several drastic misinterpretations of songs. For instance, it claims 'Thunder Rolls' by Garth Brooks is about domestic violence. Its about infedility, not focusing on violence at all, but rather the emotional ramificationsof being cheated on.
The writing is also rather dry. Many times it is merely a citing of the names of band members as well as constantly describing minor changes in bands lineups which are of no true consequence. It also tends to list off songs which have no impact on any giving band's successes or failures.
After reading the book in completetion, I really had to question the earlier passages about older rock and blues (50s to 60s) that I had thought were true. In the end, I felt that it wasted my time and money and possibly misinformed me more than anything.
Very Good for what it is........2002-03-25
What is it? A comprehensinve list type book on the history of rock and roll. Not much depth, but ALL genres covered.
Excellent, concise resource for the social history of rock.......1999-07-05
I have read and re-read this book many times since I first picked up the 3rd edition in 1996. I am a high school social studies teacher and I use this book as a resource constantly when I am teaching contempory history. Well thought out, concise yet complete, easily readable. I applaud Mr. Szatmary for his effort, the book has inspired me to research the sociolgical implications of rock and roll and not merely the "pop history" currently offered. Further, I was so inspired by this book that it prompted me to author a website dedicated to the sociology of rock and roll history.

Book Description
Of course you want to help students master communication, learn about language, and practice thinking skills--but with storytelling games? Yes you can, and easily, with the expert guidance of professional storyteller and educator Doug Lipman. You will also discover that storytelling games are a fun and exciting way to explore places, periods, and peoples, and even to practice math and science. The author provides step-by-step methods for adapting and using the story games to meet the needs of specific groups. He explains how to teach each game, control your group without decreasing energy, and even how to get reluctant players to contribute.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource for teachers and tellers alike.......2001-03-27
Doug Lipman never fails to disappoint, and this book is no exception. He provides a wealth of language-based activities that can not only enhance storytelling abilities, but can be used to reinforce classroom skills and concepts or provide a fun team building game. The games are rated and ranked in every possible fashion, making it easy to choose just what is needed for a group; by age group, by level of complexity, by cultural background, by type of skills emphasized, all neatly indexed in the back of the book for quick reference. There are games for math and science, games for learning about cultures, games to enhance oral communication skills. The introductory chapters provide rationale and ideas for creating a joyful learning environment. Each game is described fully, with a script to make it easy for one to pick the book up and try a game when a few minutes are left at the end of class.
Even adults can have fun with these games. I haven't laughed as hard as I did when I used one during a storytelling session I was hired to do with a family holiday gathering. I used the game "Letter Relay," in which the group had to build a story, taking turns sentence by sentence. Sounds easy? Here was the catch. Each subsequent sentence had to begin with a word that started with the last letter of the last word in the previous sentence. By the end of the evening, mysterious boxes had been left on doorsteps, containing magical Beanie Babies that transported the recipient to all kinds of strange and wild adventures. All of us in that living room were transported into fits of laughter as the story wound its way to a very final conclusion. I highly recommend this book, and encourage families in particular to try some of these games instead of turning on the tv. You won't be sorry.

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Inside Out.......2007-01-15
I found that this book contained information and detail that exceeded what would turn up in a typical web search. The book devotes around 200 pages just to AD. I have several books and this one actually gets used!
Excellent writing style, comprehensive coverage.......2006-08-30
As a comprehensive Windows Server 2003 reference, there is no comparison as far as I'm concerned. Quality shines throughout the book and it is obviously the product of extensive research and lots of realworld experience. Stanek takes some pretty bland subject matter like DNS, Active Directory, and optimization and makes it understandable. This book made many things clearer for me, and I actually enjoyed reading it. Explanations are so much detailed that you can actually configure your system step by step by following the book. Also discusses the underlying technology in a detailed conceptual way, that gave me the overall understanding and insight of what really is going on. If you are trying to learn or working with Windows networks, this book is a must. The book never makes you confused, and virtually all aspects of networking are covered. You really cannot go wrong with this book it is well worth the money.
Very Good Book.......2006-08-07
I recently bought a copy of this book. I saw it on the desk of a colleague at work and decided to have a look. It is really great and I also like the writing style of Stanek. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it earlier. This would have saved me considerably time and effort in researching several administration problems that may crop up from time to time.
THE BEST ONE STOP RESOURCE.......2006-05-23
I needed a comprehensive book on Windows Server 2003 and this is the one I picked after reading through all the others at the bookstore. Stanek has the most comprehensive coverage I've ever seen in a single book on security, filesystems/availability, Active Directory, and most anything else you'd want to know about Windows Server. I've been an admin for 12 years and there's things I learned that I'll admit I didn't even know Windows Server could do. As an example, this book has TWO performance monitoring and tuning chapters. These chapters cover remote monitoring, command-line monitoring, performance logging, etc. Chapter 19 covers both MBR and GPT disks as well as SANs, RAIDs. Chapter 20 covers everything you'd ever want to know about NTFS including hard links, data streams, journaling, reparse points, sparse files, disk quotas, etc. Chapter 22 is covers shadow copy from its internals to everything about how it works. Chapter 24 covers everything you need to know about IP addressing and subnetting. There are two chapters on DNS with everything from setup to troubleshooting. Some of the best coverage is on Active Directory. There's eight chapters and the 300 pages covers more than some other entire books on the subject. Get this book jump straight to Chapter 12 and keep reading until you get to Chapter 41. You'll learn a lifetime's worth of knowledge and get more expert advice than in any other book. Thank you Mr. Stanek for such an excellent book.
Very Detailed and Easy To Read.......2006-02-22
I have not read too many books about Windows 2003 Server but this book is far beyond of my expactations.

A great book.......2006-10-31
I found this book and bought it out of curiosity. It's a great book and a good reference. Though with R2 now out only a little of the info is dated.
This is book is in one way better then Minasi's great tomb. In some cases Minasi will give you a little explanation and then tell you how you should run things. Boswell keeps to the basic information and walks you through steps of doing it. Those of you that read Minasi will notice the difference between the two with the handling of RIS.
There are pictures and diagrams to help but in many cases there are simply steps. If you like screen shots walking your though A-Z then you probably will not like this book. If you like to play, then it's a good book.
One thing I did like was the many registry examples that are found to aid in the explanation of things. Boswell also mentions a few websites to help with information gathering and further understanding.
In many cases, there is only enough info to get things going(example ISA), you will not find "real-life" configuration suggestions on what you should be doing. Boswell stayed with fundamental explanations of how things work and gave you enough to get them going.
I would say that if you had both this and Minasi's book, you should be able to figure out just about everything.
Well worth the purchase........2004-12-12
I stumbled across this valuable book shortly after finishing Minasi's. I was searching for a second reference, one that I could reach for as a backup of sorts. I quickly discovered that this book was more then just a backup; its range of topics - including security issues and Kerberos - and depth of coverage clearly show that this book stands on its own merits. It's also nice to read an author who doesn't just present the facts, but also outlines how these facts fit into best practices. As far as Windows 2003 server books go, this one fits into the upper tier.
Excellent Book!.......2004-04-28
Great Book! If you want to know a lot about Windows Server 2003 and earn your MCSE 2003. You can't go wrong with this book.
Mastering Windows Server 2003 is a more enjoyable book to read, but this book has some sections that are much better, such as Certificate Services (although winstructor.com has videos that really make Certificate Services easy to understand).
I really liked this book and often refer to it, if Mastering 2003 doesn't have the info. Go and buy it
A Must have for any Windows 2003 Administrator.......2004-03-02
As I work with clients and students on Windows Server 2003, I'm inevitably asked about reference material. Without hesitation I recommend Inside Windows Server 2003 by William Boswell. This book not only covers the fundamentals you would expect, but also delves into the nitty-gritty, and sometimes obscure, technical details of Windows Server 2003. With excellent illustrations , clear and concise writing, and a soups to nuts approach, this title is a must-have for any Windows administrator.
Best I've seen!.......2003-11-26
At the presnet time, I have just finished the first chapter of this book. It is without a doubt the best server book that I have worked with. I have a better understanding of the old stuff that I knew as well as a great understanding of the new information that I am learning.

Given that there are not many references dealing with Windows Server Storage, this book has value for the developer in understanding the nuts and bolts of the technology as well as the administrator in learning how this technology and the operating system interoperate. Dilip Naik succeeds quite well in both areas.
The detail in the hardware requirements, types of devices, communication protocols - all important in understanding the technology if you are going to administer or program for it. How it communicates with Windows and the driver model is of particular interest to me as a Systems Engineer - if it's not functioning properly, I have to know - in detail, how it talks to the OS.
Eliminating layers is the only way to narrow down the possibilities. The diagrams and the associated detail of the kernel, driver, protocol and disk layers are invaluable to the topic at hand.
In the journey through this book, you start with a basic introduction to Windows NT and Windows NT storage devices. This is the basis for all that comes, but may be familiar to many who deal with driver and kernel technology. Next is Direct Attached Storage, Network Attached Storage, and an intro to Fibre Channel SAN. No storage technology is complete without discussion of backup and restoration. And, file systems are an important treatment in the book as well.
There is a chapter on storage management - and for an administrator, clearly this is the area in which the book is light. Much more could have been done with this, but the focus of the book is not on the administrator - but slanted more to aiding the developer in understanding the technology.
IP Storage, iSCSI, and InfiniBand are discussed, as is the Windows spin on the implementations. High Availability and RAID options are expanded upon, as well as some third party options.
Finally is a discussion of storage features by Windows version release, Windows NT, 2000 and Server 2003. Included is a short discussion of what's missing, and a discussion of futures.
Naik does an admirable job in delivering a book dealing with complex technology and attempting to provide information in which infrastructure technologists as well as developers can glean value from it. Though there is no code in the book, that's not the goal - it's about the technology.
If you're looking for a good reference in Windows Storage Technologies (and the supporting hardware, firmware, and software), this is one that should find it's way onto your shelf.
Good intro to various storage systems.......2003-11-14
I found certain chapters way above my head ( I am a software person, not hardware) but other chapters, especially the ones dealing with SANs and RAID configurations) incredibly useful. It answered a lot of questions I had on the different RAID configurations
Nice introduction to Windows Storage Features.......2003-09-07
This was kind of book which I was looking for sometime. Generally, one finds lot of books on Storage Technologies, SAN, Fibre Channel etc, written with system administrative perspective. This book is the next step. It gives nice technical intrduction of storage technologies and how they have been implemented on Windows Server. It is good resource for sys admins and management folks who want to understand storage feature in greater detail. The language is nice and easy. Though, sometime you feel the flow is not very smooth and its jerky sometimes. It covers pretty much all the storage features available on Windows. I believe this book is a good step in the right direction. It is technical to some level but obviously not enough for a system level programmer. Some of the details are missing( which might be intentional). Topics need to exploded further so that it can serve as a great reference. The book does not point to some of the challenges facing Windows Server Storage
