Clear & Consise.......2000-02-12
I love this book. I used it to improve my resume a few years ago, and I have loaned it to 5 people. This book will help you find the words you need to most accurately represent yourself on paper. Out of all of the publications on this topic, I feel this is one of the best.
I am a grantwriter and refer to this book often to assist me with clean/clear writing. I recommend it to anyone who could use some help in getting their point across on paper.
Very enlightening, succinct and helpful!.......1998-10-08
This is more than just a formula book. Andrea Kay gives you exercises and ways of looking at yourself, that help you see your strengths, then focus and express them in language that attracts positive attention.
By using good and clearly explained examples, Ms. Kay helps you understand not only what to say and how, but also why you need to say it.
With clear, concise examples the book also encourages the resume writer to be inventive and even bold. Ms. Kay believes that too many resumes are dull and boring in their sameness. She shows you how to rise above the pack!

100 SAMPLE LETTERS!!!!!!!!!.......2001-05-31
I read through it and it is very well done. The writing is lively and you had alot of creative tips. It certainly was engaging for the subject matter. I particularly like your use of real-world examples and the 100 sample cover letters! The only thing I didn't like about the book was the cover, which seemed a bit cheezy. Barbara Mattleman
This is a great book!.......2001-03-21
I wanted a cover letter that would make employers sit up and look at me enough to offer me a paid internship. We were told in school that cover letters would either make us or break us to the point of nonexistence. So I bought your book at Amazon.com. Cover Letters That Will Get You the Job You Want is fantastic. Hit a bull's eye. I started to wonder how my old cover letters got responded to when there are the ones done by you going around. I read your book cover to cover, and I am now armed to write.
I do not recommend this book at all.......2000-07-06
This book is definitley not worth considering if you want are trying to compose an effective cover letter. I have worked in human resources for several years and cover letters starting with either" books are as important as bread..." or "have you not found that granting loans involves knowledge...""I have been thinking of what else I might do to line up new buisiness opportunities..." are just not even worth reading. They do not catch one's attention or at least not the kind of attention you want to attract. The examples provided in the book are nothing but very simple written sentences like"...I wish I had space to list all of my qualities..."- I mean what kind of an excuse is that to make a letter short? I cannot believe this book was recommended on an online job search. It is a joke!
I sure hope this review gets posted as I do think bad reviews also have to be included to ensure the free marketplace of opinion! heikecita
It has revolutionized the way I write cover letters........1998-12-26
As a professional resume writer and career consultant, I am always looking for books with innovative strategies for developing materials, and this is among the best. Stan not only describes HOW to write a winning cover letter (capture attention, talk to your audience, etc.), but his book is chock full of examples for professionals in just about every field. "Cover Letters that Will Get You the Job You Want" has revolutionized the way I write cover letters, and the result has been a 100% increase in my referral business. There are only a few cover letter books I recommend whole heartedly. This is at the top of the list. -- Anne Follis, Certified Professional Resume Writer, CareerPro, Peoria, Illinois
Thorough. Comprehensive. Upbeat. Strong examples. Great.......1998-12-19
Thorough. Comprehensive. Upbeat. Strong examples. Will definitely use with our students. Asst. Director, Undergraduate Career Services, Pace University
This is the most comprehensive and current publication on cover letters, and the "art" of writing available. Director of Career Services, University of Alaska
Very informative and highly readable. Chapters 1- 10 are must reading for any MBA student. The book will be particularly helpful to our international students. Asst. Director of Career Services, William E. Simon Graduate School of Business, University of Rochester.
I was glad to see the very large number of sample letters. That's important because students often tend to follow too closely examples we show them and not use their own creativity in developing their letters. Director, Office of Career Development, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY
Well organized and easy to read. I especially like the NOTE: on each letter. Alumni Placement Counselor, Auburn University
A delight. The aggressive, accomplishment-based style is a real plus. Director, Career Center, St. John's University, Queens, NY
I especially liked the "mechanics" on p. 8. I don't know how many students I've had to teach on the basic structure of a letter. Career Counselor, California Institute of Technology
As valuable as the examples are (and you've compiled as complete a list as I've ever seen in one publication), the true value of the book is that you provide a "NOTE" that brings the example to life. Director of Placement and Career Counseling, University of Georgia, Athens, GA

Book Description
The Emergence of Modern South Africa views economic conflict, specifically the interaction of the state, big business, and labor, as the central issue in the development of South Africa. Yudelman focuses on the labor-management conflict in the country's gold fields in the early decades of this century, a time and place critical to the development of the state. At that time government walked a tightrope between supporting big business (to ensure economic growth) and appeasing the workers (to remain in power). Yudelman demonstrates how a symbiotic alliance between the mining companies and the state successfully subjugated the workers, and points out that this unique relationship continues to this day, dominating every aspect of life in South Africa. David Yudelman's historical analysis and lengthy epilogue on the 1970s and 1980s shed light on today's economic unrest and those conflicts to come. His book also shows how the South African case provides early and important insights into the development of the state-business symbiosis in industrial societies everywhere.
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant, A seminal work.......2005-12-12
This eminent work develops a new way of looking at the state, this revolutionary idea, takes into account aspects of Marxism and nationalism and applies it to South Africa. A brilliant hypothesis tries to explain the history or labour in the South African Gold Fields in the first half of the 20th century, while at the same time using theory, philosophy and economic theory to view this process.
This work remains the standard in its field as a point of departure for theories about the emergence of Modern South Africa. A Highly recommended work for any specialist, historian, social theorist or anyone interested in South Africa from a more detailed standpoint.

It's so bad, it's not even wrong..........2005-12-06
There are a number of very good books out on the Gulf War, the best probably being Rick Atkinson's "Crusade". This volume is not one of those books. Where atkinson and other historians use research, first person interviews and historical archives, Clark uses rumor, innuendo, and his own imagination. Many of his "facts" are simply unsubstatiated fabrications. Others are products of his imagination: "The only way this could have happened is if..."
This book, like other volumes by Clark, Chomsky, et al, will strongly appeal to people with a lot of strong opinions and a lack of historical or current affairs knowledge, who are simply looking for arguments to bolster their own predjudices.
Laughable.......2004-04-14
Nonsensical points of view. A fantasy view of the world.
Everyone Should Read This Book.......2003-12-22
This is a must read for those who want to understand the history surrounding U.S aggression against the people of Iraq. It is clear that that the true war criminals reside in the White House, Pentagon, Congress and Wall Street.
Shocking truth about a war the West should be ashamed of.......2003-06-18
Since the British lost their grip on the Middle-East, the U.S. have taken over. Mr. Clark very accurately describes how the role of the U.S. during the Gulf war fits into the bigger picture of how the U.S. have tried (and succeeded) for decades to remain the world's number one power. At first, I only wanted to read the book because I had some little doubts about the objectivity of the information that we received via the media. On the whole, I agreed that action was needed, and that the war against Iraq could not be avoided. Until I read this book...It was like shells fell from my eyes. I realise now that not only there was a lot more violence used against Iraq than we were told, and that the purpose of this war was not to get Iraq out of Kuwait (which was indeed the 19th province of Iraq before England "created" Kuwait out of it in 1922), but to cripple an entire nation for decades to come. But also that this war was carefully planned by the U.S. for years. Mr. Clark shows this with countless examples, that make you say to yourself: "yes, I always had doubts about that". One of them is that although the CIA was already aware for sixth months that during the Iran-Iraq war, Iraq used poison gas against the kurds in the North of Iraq, it never revealled this information to the press until after the Iran-Iraq ceasefire in 1988, 3 hours before an Iraqi delegate arrived in the U.S. and gave a press conference. This delegate was rather taken by surprise by the questions he got at this press-conference. I can hardly exagerate the need for everybody to read this book, and learn what price the Iraqi people had to pay to secure U.S. access to cheap oil...that's what bothers me most: this war was not about democracy or human rights, it was about money and power only. And by the way: all this talk about U.S. attempts to eliminate Mr. Hussein is, of course, nonsense. The U.S. still need him in the saddle because he gives the U.S. the excuse for presence in the Gulf and maintaining the economic sanctions. READ THIS BOOK!!! And see, among other things, that not only the Iraqi people were informed very subjectively by their media. We were also by ours.
essential for Gulf War erudition.......2001-03-09
The book is written by a respected US Gov Official. He has nothing to gain from writing this book but the contentment of disseminating the reality of US involvement in the middle east. Since writing the book, he has been chastised for being unpatriotic and even anti-semitic - all these reaction being confirmations of guilt. There is little subjectivity in this book - in fact it is not invigorating. Rather, Clark works through hard fact, in an appropriate level of detail, to describe just how misled the general public can be about war, and the incredible effects of sensationalist media and gov propaganda on the collective opinion. Read It.

Book Description
A spokesperson for a generation, Bob Dylan gave a voice to the young, and his words were, and still are, truly revolutionary. Bob Dylan: Inspirations conveys the spirit of the man and the inspiration he has brought to millions through his poignant music. This intriguing book is composed entirely of Dylan's own words. Photos of Dylan and captivating images illustrate his words beautifully:
" "When I get involved in something, I get totally involved. I don't just play around on the fringe."
" "I went over my whole life. I went over my whole childhood. I didn't talk to anyone for a week after Elvis died. If it wasn't for Elvis and Hank Williams, I couldn't be doing what I do today."
" "I don't call myself a poet because I don't like the word. I am a trapeze artist."
The book is filled with over 50 striking photographs in a thoroughly modern design for a unique look. Pull it out when you need some inspiration from the master.
Customer Reviews:
Bob Dylan: Inspirations.......2006-03-09
This is basically an itty-bitty coffee table book (oxymoron, no?) with very little content. Format: Picture and on each facing page a large print quote from Dylan. That's it. Not very many pages, either. If you are inclined to meditate upon each thing he ever said, this may be your book, but I would suggest something with a bit more substance.
Bobby's lil' book of quotes.......2006-02-22
Sized slightly larger than a double CD set, this is not really a book in a traditional sense, except that it is made of paper and bound between two hard covers. This is an assemblage of black and white photos with random thoughts generated by Dylan on various subjects (Example: "God is woman. You take it from there." This is superimposed over a b&w photo of a naked, anonymous, headless woman tastefully covering her torso with her arms.). The quotes are completely without context, except a context imposed by the book's designer, Grant Scott, via the selection of accompanying photo subjects (Allen Ginsberg, Dylan at various ages, Earth as seen from space, etc.)
For hardcore collectors or Dylan worshippers only.
Must read for Dylan fans.......2006-01-03
Are you a Bob Dylan fan? If so, pick up Inspirations by Bob Dylan. These are words said by Bob himself, including his thoughts on God, stardom, songwriting, the motorbike accident, Elvis...a little of everything, accompanied by some nice photos. Here he says he never wanted to be a prophet (Elvis, maybe), that some of his songs simply don't make sense, no matter how hard you look into them, and that we all like motorcycles to some degree. It's a great read, and one with Bob's typical twisted sense of humor. Buy it if you like Dylan.

Book Description
Empowered by findings and insights from the wit and wisdom of the indigenous Chaga educational system, Dr. Mosha contends that an authentic educational program in Tanzania and elsewhere should be holistic in its unrelenting quest to educate the entire person: body, mind, and spirit. He provides a comprehensive description of the indigenous schooling process and its underlying fundamental virtues and then proposes that modern education should give equal emphasis to both the spiritual development of students as well as to their intellectual growth in knowledge, science, and technology. Dr. Mosha argues that for its own advantage and survival, education has to prioritize moral consciousness and responsibility in its students in order to attain academic excellence. Without a consistent moral living and moral action by all who teach and learn, education eventually plunges into hopeless mediocrity, It becomes the proverbial salt which loses its saltiness.
This book provides several unique contributions to the academy. First, it illustrates how the Chaga people of N. Tanzania cherish everyday experience and every here-and-now situation as teachable moments, teaching moments, and learning moments. It is also uniquely rich in its description of stories, riddles, proverbs, and rituals as powerful tools of holistic education. Thirdly, the book breaks ground by comprehensively articulating specific indigenous virtues such as reverence, self-control, silence and thoughtfulness, courage, diligence in work, and communality. This book therefor makes a unique contribution in the areas of Indigenous Knowledge, Spirituality, Education, African American Studies, African Studies, Religious Studies, Anthropology, et cetera. The author's stories, personal experiences, and thick descriptions are so fundamental that every reader will rediscover, in this book, similar experiences in his/her own life.

One of the Most Underrated Chess Books-EVER!.......2000-04-14
"Chess is a game of bad moves." If there is such a thing as "a dirty little secret of chess" (for lack of a better phrase), this is one of them! Believe it or not, a lot of people do not believe this statement! Just like the author says, a lot of people believe they win because of their superior intellect, cunning, "attacking genius", defensive maneuvering, etc. Give me a break!
GM Soltis will go down in chess history as a man who gave vital ingredients of chess mastery to the public in book form. The 'Mistake-Inaccuracy Factor' in this great game is one of the most downplayed aspects of chess. It can prevent many players from mastering a critical skill to become a good player-the ability to fully exploit your opponents mistakes and to recognize when you are about to make one yourself.
Soltis goes through the typical mistakes made by players. Some of them are tactical mistakes, positional mistakes, underestimating threats, and many more. He also recommends going through a good number of your own games to see what mistakes you frequently make. This will probably do more for your game than learning that new wrinkle in a certain opening you want to play.
If I had a dollar for every game I should have lost and wound up winning and every game I had a won position and wound up botching -I could retire! Most of the time, you're doing your best not to screw up anything while going towards the goal of winning.
The next time you go to a chess tournament and see a guy holding court and showing how he saw everything from A to Z, its probably an ego trip. That same guy, when he loses will whine, " If I didn't hang my rook he would have been toast!" or " I didn't see that he had all that coming from that one move -the lucky patzer!". He doesn't realize, or doesn't wan't to realize, that 99.9999% of all chess games EVER PLAYED were won or lost due to a tactical, positional, or attitude mistake made by the opponent.

Customer Reviews:
Very good, but a bit dated.......2006-08-10
A good overview...lots of useful information. Just be aware that this was written for CE 3.0, and 5.0 is current, with 6.0 in Beta, so there are detail differences. Still, a good starting point, and I can't find any more current books on the subject. So if you need to learn to use the Microsoft Platform Builder to do Windows CE embedded sysgens, this is the only game in town.
Overpriced for out of date information.......2005-07-28
Book is out of date and is exteremly overpriced. Anyone who attends a DevConference receives more information that is upto date than what was covered in the entire book. Waste of time and money.
Too out of date to be of use........2005-03-18
This book was written in 2001 (as were most of the positive reviews for it here on Amazon.) It only covers up to Platform Builder and WinCE 3.0, which are now up to version 5. As a result, the how-to parts, as well as the references, are mostly useless. In fact, I'm not sure any of the sections are relevant or can be trusted since WinCE has changed so much.
Considering the price of the book, I feel cheated. The authors need to write a new version and THIS version should be pulled from circulation.
Great book for platform level CE development.......2004-08-09
Sure this book is a tad outdated, but there aren't many books that address this topic. I have not read Boling's book, but browsed a copy and I think it does not address the low level programming to the extent that this book does. You won't find a better book on the development of the actual platform than this one. This covers drivers, OAL, bootloaders, hardware accessing, and also generally how a CE project could be planned by management right down to developers. I would not want to work on a CE platform without this book. Anything outdated about this book, can be supplemented by reading MSDN documentation. But this book gives you a starting point and a great high level explanation of the system as a whole, which is something that is hard to get out of reading tons of MSDN documentation if don't already have a lot of experience in a topic.
A little bit outdated.......2002-12-19
I was a very disappointed as the book only covers Windows-CE 3.0 and older versions. It does not cover CEC-filer not the new method of component selection.
