The Internet has changed the world in so many ways. This book is a collection of essays by some of the most prominent minds of the Internet. It covers security, freedom, intellectual property, privacy, and ethics of course. It was required reading material for a Computers, the Internet, and Society course I took. Very few other books could be better for that subject matter.

Nearly completely worthless.......2004-12-21
This text must be one of the worst books on ethics I've ever seen. The authors start with a basic assumption that information technology changes ethical issues and never examine this fundamentally flawed belief. The essays are extreme and manage to make their own points sound rediculous even when they are reasonable.
There are errors in their references and their interpretation and use of other texts.
This book is painful to read.

Didn't select this book for my course.......2004-08-20
I teach a computing ethics course at an area University. I did not select this book as my text when I reviewed texts for use in the Fall 2004 semester. I did choose Spinello and Tavani's new reader; but this book--like most of the predecessors Spinello has written--would drive my students nuts -- and they wouldn't know why. Bottom line: poorly written and not easy to read -- lots of tough sentence choices made. However, as with Spinello's other books, there are some points he makes that no other computing ethics texts' authors do make! So, I'll glean those points out of his text and present them to my students rather than force them to work their way through and around his prose.
Waste of time.......2003-10-22
This book was an incredible waste of time. I felt that the essays were a) far too dated (a rambling discourse on the dangers of cookies) or b) too out of touch (Rape in cyberspace was NOT a real rape in cyberspace, folks) The authors seem to be mainly scholars without a tech background than technical folks and I have to agree that the thesaurus was in heavy use during the writing of most of the these essays. Finally the book contains very little practical information on cyberethics. Not even a single case study.
CyberEthics = Mumbo Jumbo, not worth it.......2001-09-17
The content of this book is nothing short of a diaster! I had to read this book for my Ethics in the Information Age class here at the Rochester Institute of Technology and I must say that this is the worst textbook I ever had to read. It felt more like a highschool essay thats 155 pages long. The book is plagued with wordy sentences that can confused and bemuddle anyone who isn't an english major. Practically every sentence is littered with words that a bare few of us remember from the SATs (perhaps to lengthen the book?). The book's content doesn't provide a sense of contraversy about ethics in cyberspace. I beleive that he tried to stay neutral in the arguments but it only seemed to confuse me. The auther included a lot of references to other sources suggesting that he too doesn't even know a thing about Cyber Ethics, resorting to other people's works. The writng is too abstract and at most times I ended up rereading the book several times just to make sense of it. If I didn't need this for class, I recommend not buying this book. I am sure there are plenty of other well written Cyber Ethics books than this.
An intriguing exploration into cutting-edge ethical issues.......2000-12-21
After starting this book, I found it difficult to put down or avoid engaging others with the questions the book raised both explicitly and implicitly. The murky waters of online ethics are aptly navigated by Spinello in this brief work. The presentational format of providing background and then analyzing each side of an issue enhances the understanding of the material while provoking further thought for the reader. Case studies are also interlaced into the material, providing ample ground for discussion. This would serve well as a college supplemental reading for any truly in-depth analysis of morality and cyberspace. It also remains enjoyable and understandable for the pleasure reader who has little background in this field. A must-read for anyone hoping to understand where government and society stands on difficult ethical and legal dilemmas created by cyberspace.

My CD melted!.......2005-01-02
I opened the book and tried to take the CD out of the plastic and part of the CD came off ruining the CD. Also I was under the impression that all the CDs came with the book not that you had to purchase four more. Also the print is too small. Very dissapointed! I was surprised too because Hoffer wrote a good book on music education in the secondary schools. I would reccommend the Kamien Music Appreciation books by far over this one.

Unquestionably the most understandable,interesting,even entertaining text for introduction to music courses. It would also be an excellent gift for anyone wanting to know more about classical, ethnic and contemporary music. The CD ROMs add immeasurably to the book, providing graphic illustrations of the ideas in the text. An outstanding book.
The world of music at your fingertips, with 2 CDs.......1999-08-25
This is a beautiful book. Anyone who wants to learn more about music -- its notation, its instrumentation, its history, how and why it moves us -- will enjoy this book immensely. It discusses music theory in understandable terms, covering rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, timbre, and organization. The instruments of the classical orchestra are all explained, as are folk instruments. In fact, folk music from around the world is discussed as a prelude to the main sections on the so-called "art music" of Europe and America. I especially liked the Listening Guides. They correspond to tracks on the two CDs that come with the book. The author explains what's going on at each important part of a piece of music, with timings provided so you can follow along, and even provides musical notation showing important themes. I don't read music, but I enjoyed being able to see the score of a familiar strain and following along with the Listening Guide to better understand what the music was about. There are also biographies of each important composer and beautiful full-color reproductions of art from the period being discussed. The book also includes an appendix about musical notation (which if I had studied better would probably give me musical literacy). It also has a very useful glossary and index. This book is obviously a college textbook, but anyone who wants to increase his or her understanding and appreciation of the world music will benefit from reading it.

Leave it to the original..........2007-09-05
In my dedicated and often fruitless search for the perfect Avengers reference guide, I have discovered that The Complete Avengers, the first ever reference book dedicated to The Avengers, stands alone as the closest to perfection you will find. The format, unlike The Avengers Files, is very reader friendly, breaking down each segement of The Avengers era, from the Steed-David Keel first season to The New Avengers, with an overview of the season followed by a complete episode review/synopsis guide. The overview of each segment details the characteristics of each of the main cast, and accounts important details of the seasons as they occurred. The episode guide is very easy to follow, lavishly illustrated with over 200 photos, albeit black & white. Unfortunately, no color pictures exist in this volume, therefore The Avengers Companion would be the book to recommend if you're looking for the best photos.
Even the supposed flaw of The Complete Avengers should not really be considered a flaw at all. In critical reviews of this book, many people complain that the synopses of each episode vary with the finished product. Some differences are minor, while others alter entire plot twists, yet keeping the main plot resolutions true to the televised version. Rogers opted to give us the synopsis as it appeared in the script rather than the final televised version, perhaps showing great forsight, as most fans of The Avengers have seen the episodes, possibly own the DVD sets, having every story at their disposal to view at their leisure (Rogers in this case predicts the advent of VHS/DVD by taking the "script" route)... They know what happens in the televised final edit. If you know the story, why do you need to read it? In this regard, the episode variations are not mistakes, but how they were scripted. It is great to be able to read about how the episode was originally intended, so you can spot the differences between script and final version with ease. Besides, these synopses go into such great detail that often the only alterations are mere details, with the resolution remaining intact.
The book concludes with an Avengers memorobilia guide. Unfortunately, since this book is 20 years old, this guide is two decades outdated. This is the only problem in The Complete Avengers, through no fault of its own. A victim of the passage of time. Perhaps Dave Rogers can write an updated version, since there has been much more memorobilia released in the last 20 years, not the least of which DVD sets, and trading cards.
The book's "complete".....but my satisfaction isn't!!.......2003-11-12
I am giving this book 3 stars because of all the long and tedious work put into it, and all its great pictures, most of which cannot be found elsewhere. Also, the list with details about all the memorabilia available is very useful. But I found that the episode descriptions were not very accurate. If I remember correctly, this is because the summaries are based on the scripts and not the actual episodes (as they were broadcast) of the show. I recommend buying it if you are a huge fan of the show; just don't rely on the book for accuracy.
Complete Avengers covers every Avengers & new avengers plot........2000-03-03
Peters book covers all the material of The Avengers, his earlier book, and the New Avengers 1970s shows. The photographs are wonderful. There are textual errors in the Avengers Steed and Emma snopsis, story after story.Peters' excuse is that people would prefer the original scripts' not how the show was filmed.
The wittiest book is Paul cornell's Avengers Dossier which rates each episode by: wit, kinkiness, champagne, fight scenes, suspense, direction. Peters' book is good but since I own most of the Rigg/MacNee videos I found his many errors jarring. Didn't the publisher care that the book, like Peters predecessor, is riddled with errors? What the Butler Saw-in that episode Steed closes jauntily with "The butler did it!" Peters eroneously says Emma says it. There are many other examples of wrong methods of death. Peters writes that Emma stabbed Cartney with a spear in A touch of Brimstone. Cartney causes his own death by cracking a whip at Emma,his whip curls around a walled item, yanking the secret passage open below him so that he falls to his death. Those are only two of many so the same errors may permeate the Cathy Gale/David Keel episodes as well.

Most comprehensive guide for any avengers fan.......1997-04-01
As a fan of the avengers who did not manage to see all
the episodes, this book gives the most complete guide
to all the seasons and stories that were screened.
It has beautiful pictures and has been very thoroughly
researched.
It provides a lot of information such as how certain actors
or characters became what they became on screen.

quick tour of the basics.......2005-08-06
A vivid and cute exposition of Microsoft Windows XP. The images are boldly coloured and sometimes just seem to reach out and grab you by the lapels. The tour is actually fairly brief, in terms of the coverage of XP's features. But in fairness, Maran is not offering a comprehensive exposition. Instead, for the beginner, she deems it more important to convey the typical common tasks that you will want to do. Later on, you can consult a more detailed text for the extra stuff.
The text is also well suited to a young audience. Though by no means limited to them.
