Finally.......2005-08-10
This book has opened my eyes to finally decide to work with horses for the rest of my life.. I love horses and this book showed me that I now can have a career with them. My parents were amazed at the endless opportunities illustrated in the book. It is worth the money ,as every page is informative.
Excellent.......2005-08-10
This book is very thorough in not only obtaining a career with horses but how to keep your job with horses. I never knew there was a large number of careers with horses until I read this book.
Disappointing.......2003-04-14
It's a shame that Amazon.com doesn't have the "look inside" feature for this book, because it doesn't just "[include] tips on writing resumes, filling out applications, interviewing, and keeping a job," over ONE HUNDRED PAGES are devoted to this! And it's not even horse-industry-specific information, it's the same stuff you could find in any job-seeking guidebook. There are 71 horse-related careers that get a single-page outline each. Might be useful for someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the horse industry, or someone looking for a general job-hunting guide with a little horsey info at the end, but that's about it.
Disappointing.......2003-04-11
It's too bad amazon doesn't have the "look inside" option for this book. It doesn't just "[include] tips on writing resumes, filling out applications, interviewing, and keeping a job," over ONE HUNDRED PAGES are devoted to this. And it's all very generic info that you could find in any "how to get and keep a job" book. Then there are 70 pages outlining 71 careers - that's right, ONE PAGE devoted to each. Could be useful if you really have no idea what's involved in working with horses, but otherwise not worth the $.

An Excellent Resource for Those Looking For A Horsey Career.......2002-10-25
Sue Reynolds has written a wonderful resource for those interested in pursuing a career in the horse industry. Each chapter features a particular industry (Animal Health Professions, Horse Racing and Polo, etc.) and then discusses some of the better known jobs held in the industry. She includes checklists on what the careers involve as well as checklists of the lesser known jobs. Tips from people that actually hold the job are also given for those that want to pursue that career as well as some personal stories on how they go about their day to day living. Each chapter ends with resources on how to find out more about those industries and the book ends with an extensive list of all the careers that can be held in the equine industry.
Great book for horse lovers who want a job in their field.......2000-02-13
Sue Reynolds has put together a great reference book...it is very comprehensive but easy to read. It is filled with handy checklists and I definitely enjoyed the personal stories and perspectives in each chapter. Sue covers EVERYTHING, from equine schools, getting a job, starting a business to various professions (vet, horse breeder, trainer, farrier, writer, manufacturer, to name a few). Each chapter has a list of resources so I know where to find more information. This book would be helpful for young people, and for anyone wanting to get into the horse industry or switch careers. I highly recommend it!
Sue Reynolds knows how to put information together........1999-05-04
Does anyone have more fun than a librarian? First we get to spend money (not our own) on books; then we get to look at them while they still smell good and are clean; then we get to admire and benefit from all the hard work that went into making a product that delivers (most of the time). Such is the book, "The Complete Guide To Horse Careers" by Sue Reynolds who, after she steps out of the saddle, surely must put on her practical sensible shoes and glasses and step behind a reference desk, because this lady knows how to put information together . (The cover says she has a masters degree in education and is a reading specialist who is a horse enthusiast and freelance writer---close enough.) Although she introduces the Internet on page 2, every chapter has a resource list of associations, people, e-mail addresses, articles, books, and websites. She keeps the reader interested with check-lists, line drawings, photos, boxes of tips from experts in the field, career profiles and economic forecasts.

Angels: God's Secret Agents is Billy Graham's one-volume introduction to one of the most popular spiritual phenomena of our time. Firmly grounded in Graham's close readings of scripture, Angels testifies to Graham's own encounters with the heavenly beings and also records the many similar stories that other believers have told him over the years. Graham devotes entire chapters to the questions of whether angels are visible or invisible, how they differ from men and women, and how the angelic hierarchy is organized. He also discusses the much-debated theory that UFO sightings are in fact angelic appearances.
Perhaps the primary purpose of this book, however, is to inform readers that armies of angels are ready and willing to help Christians in their daily fights against the forces of darkness. "Millions of angels are at God's command and at our service," Graham writes. "The hosts of heaven stand at attention as we make our way from earth to glory, and Satan's BB guns are no match for God's heavy artillery." Such stirring theological pronouncements are matched with practical advice for believers who wish to know the angelic powers in everyday life. --Kevin Attwood
Book Description
Dr. Billy Graham says, "Angels have a much more important place in the Bible than the devil and his demons." In this classic, Dr. Graham combines the fascinating experiences of those who are certain they have been attended by angels with what the Bible says about angels from on high. Here is ringing assurance to all Christians that through angels God is present for His People. We can take comfort in the fact that, with the host of angels at God's call, we are not alone. Be encouraged by this mini book on God's Secret Agents.

angels.......2007-08-31
Everything you ever wanted to know about angels Billy Graham has supplied in a very interesting way!!
A GREAT SPIRTUAL BOOK.......2007-07-02
I read this book over the weekend, and was totally engrossed in it. It tells about the personal accounts that people have with angels, and The Reverend Billy Graham really goes into an easy to read broad description on the subject of angels. I believe that angels do exist and this is a great spiritual and historical Christian book on angels. Well written and anyone who would want to read a great book on angels, this is the book
What do we know about Angels?.......2006-12-30
We know by reading the Bible that God created two different beings, Angels and Man. What do we really know about Angels? Angels do not marry or procreate; their numbers remain constant and were created by God. Their knowledge exceeds our own, but is still less than God's. Angels power and might is greater than man's, 2 Peter 2:11. They can take on a human form, Hebrews 13:2.
There is a lot to learn about Angels, even Satan is a fallen Angel, and this book will help you learn.
good book on angels.......2006-01-23
Their is not many books on angels out there but if you look to get one, get this one. A very good book. If you want to know if angels exist or not. They do. Dr. Graham goes through the book telling how angels are God's secret angents!!!
Angels.......2005-10-24
This is an excellent book for anyone who may question whether or not angels exist. They do!
Our pastor is using this book as a reference (along with the scriptures) for our bible study group. Now most of us have our own copy and are enjoying it very much.

The real deal.......2005-07-13
Do you want to know what really happened? You could read the Bible, but it turns out that the Bible is only God's "official" biography. So much hype and hyperbole! To get the real scoop on how the Universe began, and what has happened since, you must read The Secret Diary of God (aged 9 1/2 Million Trillion Years).
One might think that Koos Kombuis, a musician from South Africa, is the author of this book. In fact, Kombuis actually translated this book, using technology similar to that used in The Bible Code, from an old Potchefstroom telephone directory (for those, like myself, who do not know their South African geography, Potchefstroom is a small city about 70 miles south-west of Johannesburg). Kombuis knew God would never be so careless as to hide his secret diary in a publication so well-known as the Bible, so he began running his software on the most obscure publications he could find.
This book is thought-provoking, and probably not suitable for those who are devout and without a sense of humor. I highly recommend it.
Proudly South african!.......2004-10-20
Think Douglas Adams meets Terry Pratchett, and you'll form a good idea of what Koos Kombuis (pronounced: Quiss Com-base) has penned in this true South African classic.
A bit of background:
Koos Kombuis is a legendary figure in Afrikaans Rock music, and is commonly seen as one of the pioneers in South African alternative music. He is also an accomplished writer, and this is his first book in English. I highly recommended for anyone that would like to broaden their horizons, as this is, although not always actual to especially Americans, a rare gem, written with heartfelt sincerity by one of South Africa's true living legends.
Book Description
I learned courage from Buddha, Jesus, Lincoln, and Mr. Cary Grant. So said Peggy Lee, the North Dakota girl who sang like shed just stepped out of Harlem. Einstein adored her; Duke Ellington dubbed her the Queen. With her platinum cool and inimitable whisper she sold twenty million records, made more money than Mickey Mantle, and along with pals Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby presided over musics greatest generation. Yet beneath the diamonds she was still Norma Delores Egstrom, insecure and always looking for acceptance. Drawing on exclusive interviews and new information, Peter Richmond delivers a complex, compelling portrait of an artist and an era that begins with a girl plagued by loss, her fathers alcoholism, and her stepmothers abuse. One day she gets on a train hoping her music will lead her someplace better. It doesto a new town and a new name; to cities and clubs where a gallery of brilliant innovators are ushering in a brand-new beat; to four marriages, a daughter, Broadway, Vegas, and finally Hollywood. Richmond traces how Peggy rose, right along with jazz itself, becoming an unstoppable hit-maker (Fever, Maana, Is That All There Is?). We see not only how this unforgettable star changed the rhythms of music, but also howwith her drive to create, compose, and performshe became an artist whose style influenced k.d. lang, Nora Jones, and Diana Krall. Fever brings the lady alive againand makes her swing.

PEGGY LEE - ONE OF THE GREATEST EVER!.......2006-11-21
A WELL WRITTEN BOOK ON THE LIFE AND CAREER OF ONE OF THE WORLD'S
GREATEST AND MULTI-TALENTED ARTISTS OF ALL TIME!
D WATSON & The Life of Peggy Lee.......2006-07-25
This story of the life and music of Norma Deloris Egstrom from North Dakota has given all Pegy Lee fans a far more complete version of the most talented singer songwriter of the 20th century than her own Autobiography. Not only has Peter Richmond captured ever nuance of Peggy's complex character but he also has painted a picture of the American music scene of the 30's, 40's and 50's in intimate detail. Some of her loyal fans, particularly those like myself from, England, may be dissapointed to find she had, like all icons with talent of the highest order, many flaws. It was, however, the mental and physical anguish she suffered as a young woman, that formed her character and propelled her into immortality.
I sincerley hope that her many fans in the USA will be lobbying to have Peggy Lee represented, Like her contemporaries, Benny Goodman,Count Basie, Billie Holliday etc, on a postage stamp in the Legends of American Music Series
fever.......2006-06-28
I am from a past generation. Born in 1934. I had the chance to follow Peggy Lee for a number of years durning her life. The book helps me clearify some of the missing parts of her life. I love Peggy Lee and I have enjoyed the book.
Enjoyable non-fiction.......2006-06-19
Book describes two Peggy Lee's. The sexy musically savy live entertainer, who controlled the crowd by singing softer and softer so they would have to stop talking if they wanted to hear her.
The other Peggy Lee was born to an alcoholic father and raised by a cruel step mom. A woman who never seemed happy with any of her husbands, though she remained friends with some after their break up. This part of book just scratches the surface at least with any particular relationship she had and why it was going bad. It seems to build to an overall character assesment based on all of her relationships and career - though I had to return the book to the library before I got to the end.
For me the book also described a third Peggy Lee. One who found her way in the musical world, meeting and performing with many great musicans in many of the hot jazz spots of the past. This was the most enjoyable part of the book as you travell back in time to visit with some of the jazz greats that my father loved and some lessor known ones that I met while listening to them with my father. It is also a story of how Peggy kept her career going into the 60s with the avent of rock & roll
You can tell the author is a real fan of Peggy Lee, as he promotes her artistry, innovation, sense of blues/jazz timing and phrasing above all others that have come before (and seemingly after). I share his dislike for modern and beebop jazz, but can't share his enthusiam for her and her music above all others, or for that matter rock & roll.
A definate page turner.......2006-05-27
I just finished reading this, and found it to be a complete and intriguing bio of Miss Lee. You will not want to put it down! She had an incredible life, and the author not only makes you feel as though you were there, but also gives mini bios of fellow musicians and peers of Miss Lee. I am now looking for Peggy's autobiography that she penned herself!

Smallville, the hit series which follows the adventures of a teenaged Clark Kent and his friends including Lana Lang and a certain Lex Luthor is simply one of the hottest shows on TV. This authorised companion tells you everything you could possibly need to know about season one, and is packed with exclusive interviews, unseen photos, behind the scenes secrets and a complete episode guide. Also included are insights into the world of Smallville, with excerpts from the town newspaper The Smallville Ledger and even a look at the mysterious LexCorp
Author Paul Simpson was granted complete access to the set, and brings you the exclusive inside story of this amazing series, with a Foreword by executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar.

A good book about Smallvilles third season........2007-03-08
The book ist well structured and contains interesting information about the characters on the show and the actors themselves. Also the episodes are explained in a comprehensive way , so that the storylines become understandable even to those people who are not Smallville addicted ones yet. These days I own all the three companion books about Smallvilles Season One to three, which I purchased from amazon.com online.
I like these books a lot and have almost completed them one by one. The three official companions can only be recommended ! I`m already looking forward to The official Companion Season 4 by Craig Byrne, which I hope will contain coloured pictures. THats why I rated this item with only four stars and not five. In the first three companions all the pictures where in black and white, besides a coloured photo gallery ( the actors ) in the middle of each book.
Decidedly worth it for fans.......2006-11-03
Titan Books does an excellent job summing up the Smallville seasons in all their books, and this third one was no exception. The cast quotes are well chosen and informative, and the behind-the-scenes anecdotes are always amusing. Certainly worth picking up if you're a fan of the show.
Smallville Companion.......2006-03-11
For anyone who loves Smallville this book is for you. It has cool behind the scenes looks into the cast and crew of Smallville. It also has some quotes from the shows and lets you in on things that happen on the set. If there are some things that you don't understand in an episode this book will help you out.
Great show; educational book.......2006-02-25
This book delves deeply into the first season of my favorite TV show. If you are looking for background about the episodes, creators and actors I can't think of a better companion. I can't wait for the season four edition.
Nice guide to series beginning, could have a little more information.......2006-01-14
Nice little guide to season 1 with information on each episode. You'll find out who starred, guest starred, the music used (the DVD set doesn't do that), trivia bits and a photo or two. Each episode is given a paragraph or so about the story followed by a page or two about behind the scenes things by cast & crew. There is also a made up Torch or Smallville Ledger article related to each story.
About the middle of the book there is a section of color cast photos, they aren't really episode related but seem to have been taken on location.
The final portion of the book has an indepth section on the season finale episode "Tempest" followed by character profiles, including actor comments, there's aso a short "meet the crew" bit and one about the popularity of the show.
My biggest complaint about the book is that there are no airdates given for any of the episodes, and you can get them from the DVD set.

It works well with XSI 5 too!.......2006-01-31
I recommend this book highly to all beginners or intermidiate users of XSI 4 0r 5.
Aaron Simms walks you through many things that the manual and teaching materials that come with XSI do not.
5 stars from me!

Truely and inspiring book........2005-03-15
This is truely an inspiring book. It contains a great mixture of learning materials, from character creation, to scripting, and final renderings. A must have.
What is it with XSI books?.......2005-01-16
I recently decided to get back into 3D after a number of years out of the loop. After experimentation with the top applications (Maya, XSI, 3DMax and Lightwave, plus a number of less well known applications such as Cinema4D), I decided to go with XSI. Maya came a close second: XSI just seemed easier and more intuitive.
The next problem was finding some teaching material to learn XSI with. There are literally hundreds of courses, books and DVDs for Maya, but only a handful for XSI. This was a fact that almost made me go for Maya (there is no point getting a high powered application if you dont know how to use that power!), but I took the precaution of actually reading some of the XSI books, and boy was I impressed - although there are far fewer XSI books out there, the quality of them exceeds many other digital authoring and computer books I have read. As a computer book author and freelance web designer myself, thats no mean feat... I get through a lot of books!
There are only two books you need to get up to speed with XSI: The XSI:Illuminated:Foundation (published by Mesmer) and this book.
The expertise of the authors of the Experience XSI 4 books is obvious just by flicking through the pages. One of the authors was actually involved in the development of XSI itself, and the other is a noted CGI professional. You just can't go wrong with tutors like these!
The other surprise was the high production values and low price of the book: full color gloassy paper throughout. This is not a showy color book with little technical depth though, far from it. It is packed with concise and totally practical tutorials.
Perhaps one downside of the book is that the authors push you straight in at the deep end: the character you create is commercial quality (ie it would not look out of place in a Hollywood motion picture). For me, thats an advantage not a pitfall: I'd rather be working slowly through a book that showed me how to create a believable, realistic character than fly through 300 pages creating cubes, matchstick men and simple rotating logos!
Highly recommended.

Good Blend of Technical and Creative.......2004-11-18
At the end of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban they give the credits. Minute after minute, after minute the credits flow. After the first few, the names are not of actors but of programmers and other computer types. This is typical of a lot of movies today. The computer people can produce special effects with greater attention to detail, more 'lifelike' appearance than previous techniques and can do it faster and at lower cost.
And one of the main packages used for this work is Softimage. Strangely enough there are relatively few books on working with Softimage. This book covers the latest XSI 4 version of the software.
The two authors are Aaron Sims who has done creatures for such films as Men in Black, and Michael Isner the head of Special Projects at Softimage. Mr. Sims handles the creative aspects of the book, going through the process of designing a character in a step-by-stem mode. Mr. Isner provides a solid base of information about the technical processes within XSI, information vital to a complete understanding of this powerful software package.
The two authors have split the work well giving two views of approaching a problem.
a good place to start.......2004-07-27
This book is nice to have handy considering the limited number of XSI books out there. While the treatment as a whole can be kind of overview-ish at times, Mr. Isner manages to get into some nice technical tid-bits that can be hard to find other places. A good place to start for someone who knows some 3D, but wants to learn the XSI methodology.
