Not the greatest book for me.......2004-02-26

I guess I don't understand construction details, but I didn't understand a single problem in this book. I had to refer to my Construction: Materials, Methods, and Techniques by William Spence in order to answer the review questions. The problems were writtin in short hand with abbreviations I didn't know. I think this book might be a little intimidating to someone who is not familiar with construction or detailing.

A gut-pile of wisdom for cheap.......2006-05-15

Back in the glory days before those living in them knew they were glorious, Buck "Buck" Peterson unleashed this heaving monster on blood sport readers. GUIDE TO DEER HUNTING is back in action, tarted up for this next decade with nifty type and a swell new cover. The insides are much what you'd expect from Mr. Peterson, an unabashed pleasure at satirizing people with guns. Chapters on deer, deer hunting, and deer hunters delve deep into the viscera of stalking Bambi's parents. What I want to know is, what happened to nasty comments about the thickness of Polish women's ankles? Is Buck maturing with age?

Buck is one funny guy. Other guidebooks are soooo serious about deerhunting and miss the humor involved with any kind of hunting.
Buck pokes everyone and everything with a deserved sharp stick.
The illustrations by "Sourdough" are hilarious too. Great gift idea.

A very funny book about deerhunting.......2000-09-19

My family has been deerhunting for years and I've listened to many funny stories about their hunts. This book is a funny guidebook and has lots of neat illustrations too. My mom gave the book to my Dad last Christmas and he's laughed out loud a number of times. The book is really fun for those who have hunted for awhile. Buck really knows deerhunting and deerhunters.

Too Much Baloney.......2000-09-15

There are a few jewels in this book, but not many, and you have to wade through way too much nonsense to get to them. I guess if you're out on a long long camping trip with the buddies & you over induldge in adult beverages you might enjoy it, but don't buy this one in hopes of learning anything.

This was a great read ! Anyone who thinks the industry is all about the big names is misguided. It is all about those who stay true to their music and lifestyles. Speaking of blues, for everyone who made it big, how many are playing away in the clubs that no one really heard of but listen to every chance they get.

This book is great and it looks at the real rocker. If you want stories on the elite fringe of the 1% get Kitty Kelly to write it. I want the skinny on the people who make up the masses of rock.

sub par and a bore.......2004-10-11

I have read about 2 dozen rock and roll biographies and autobiographies, so I thought this would be right up my alley. wrong. My main complaint is that the rock and roll tales are from mostly lesser-known and unknown musicians and hangers-on.Plus, the stories themselves are just not that interesting. I count maybe 5 good stories in the whole book.(that's about 1 juicy story every 20 pages) If you want dirt, check out "The Dirt" by Motley Crue, or Hammer of the Gods, or Full Moon by Dougal Butler. All are very entertaining reads

Roadies Rule !.......2004-07-14

I will admit I am partial to biographies and rock 'n roll, so this latest offer from Brant held the promise of being a good read. What I found was a great variety of personal stories which ranged from "hooting 'n hollaring" to reflective and even soulful. I've read many music books and most of them talk about "The Road." This book lets the artists, roadies and fans take you right into this integral part of their lives. It's a great book and I strongly recommend it.

Marley has used her years of experience and hundreds of "connections" in the business to compile an outstanding collection of short stories from "the road." Starting in the sixties and running up through present day she gives the reader the "insider's view" of what really happens backstage and behind the scenes in the music business. The stories are short, to the point, and absolutely real (I can verify this since I was a part of this life as a Roadie back in my youth). I highly recommend this book for anyone who has been to a concert in the past 40 years and had a good time, you won't be sorry.

What a Great Book!.......2004-06-30

These are great stories, I felt that I was right there as I read them. I liked the fact that while sex and drugs were represented, most of the artist's tales were about the really bizarre things that happen when musicians are on the road and when people are involved in the music business. Marley Brant makes the book even better by narrating and explaining the circumstances that surround these experiences, and frequently gives her own hilarious perspective on the story. There is more to Rock and Roll than what happens on the stage.

Sulpy & Shweighardt's "Get Back" chronicle and Everett's study of "the Beatles as Musicians" from Revolver onward, have established themselves as bookshelf references on a par with the Lewisohn books. This new collection of writings probably wasn't aiming for a similar comprehensiveness, but the topics are novel enough to make you smiile as you read: from a linguistic comparison of Lennon-McCartney and Jagger-Richards to a deconstruction of the Beatles as the "cutting-edge" of youth culture. Articles with titles like "The Postmodern White Album" are bound to alienate some casual readers, as might the academic language in which they're written -- at least in comparison to the usual hyper-excited tone of Beatle writing. As a graduate student I'm less bothered by this than some apparent albeit minor errors, from attributing the Butcher cover idea to Lennon (who has said in interviews that it was the photographer, Bob Whitaker, who suggested it) to ignoring Harrison's vocal contribution to "Free As A Bird." The book is a load of fun and gives fresh approaches to less-observed topics of Beatledom. But it does suffer from a problem also evident in the "Anthology" videos, where the living Beatles themselves seemed to be telling their story in "3rd person" -- as though they were reciting a compilation of other people's commentary. Befitting its scholarly approach, this book elevates well-known sound bites to citable references of academic research. This can be tricky, given the Clinton-esque obsessions of Lennon and McCartney for their own places in history when being interviewed. As many of the articles point out, all Beatle activity took place in specific contexts too often ignored by previous "research." The same goes for all kinds of writing on the Beatles.

This is a great 7th heaven book. It goes really in dept with the 1st four seasons. Its filled with episode summaries, photo gallery and selected interviews with the cast. A great book for a 7th heaven fan. I loved it so much and it game me so much info on the episodes that I read it over and over again. A great gift for the holidays!!!

A 15 year olds point of view.......2003-08-24

I thought that this was a great book. It gave you all the important things that you needed to know about the first four seasons. I think that they need to do another one about the rest of the seasons because I would like to know more about the show if I have not seen an epsoide and I can get the facts from that book. I just think that it is a great book to have if you want to have something to read and it is not rude. I think think that it is peaceful for the mind and soul. Read the book I know that you will love it. One last note I think that if a 15 year old likes it that anyone would like it.

This book including alot of pictures and a recap of every show through 1-4. There are bios on the actors/actresses Barry Watson, Jessica Biel, Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher, Machenzie Rosman, Stephen Collins, Catherine Hicks I would really recomend this book to any 7th Heaven fan!

Okay, 7th Heaven is supposed to be "uncool" or whatever. I think it's almost embarrasing that a nice family show with heart, morals, and values, has to be "uncool", or that people don't admit to watching it. Admit it!. Be proud!. This book about the WB show is a great buy for any fan, or for anybody who is interested in getting into the show and needs a little catching up to do. This book contains every episode, with a very lengthy summary of the episode, for the first four seasons. It also has some color photos, and some interviews with a few members of the cast. The show is a wonderful family show. People say it's corny, cheesy, or whatever. Well, so what?. Is that supposed to mean something?. No, it doesn't mean anything. It deals with some very serious issues. Not everything is all wrapped up and happy at the end of each show. The Camden family are not perfect "Brady" clones where the world's problems are solved in time for the ending credits. This is the kind of show we need more of. Especially now. If some people bash a show like this, which has been the #1 rated show on the WB for the last 3 seasons, and only WB show to crack the top 40, you wonder what kind of morals they have. Anyways, this is a great book to a great, classy, family show. 7th Heaven is T.V. heaven indeed. The show continues to do a great service for television and humanity.

If you work in the mobile communications space and you aren't Japanese, you probably ought to have a copy of this book. It provides a wealth of data and references on Japanese mobile phone use that have been hidden behind the language barrier for too long. (NB: This is sociology and anthropology data we're talking about, not marketing data. It's data about how people do things and think about things, not how many widgets they bought last year.) Mimi Ito has done the community (particularly the research community) a huge service by getting this collection published.

In Japan and Europe, cellphone usage is higher than in the United States. Thus to an American reader, this book can be interesting on several levels. Perhaps as a sociological commentary on how Japanese society has accepted and accomodated the pervasive use of the phones. To an extent not currently seen in much of the US, except possibly amongst teenagers in large cities. The book is a fascinating read of how quickly an technological item has become part of the fabric in Japan. The passages on phone etiquette also suggest what might also eventuate here.

On a business level, the book can be used for ideas into future usages, in Japan or elsewhere. If you are trying to find a novel business involving cellphones, it helps to study a society that has taken them further.

Great Content! A little hard to read.......2005-09-07

I have been fascinated by cell phone adoption in Japan for some time. This is a very well researched book on the topic, but it reads just like a boring college text book. This could be due to the fact it was translated from Japanese, but don't let this stop you from buying it.
