Very basic........2005-09-15
This book is just plain old common sense, there is no real information given. Very basic.
Great step to start your own company.......2005-02-13
As founder and developer of a unique medical transcription company, EchoScribe Inc, this book is a great way to explore career options in MT. In fact, many of our clients, people who started their own company though the careers section of our company website, recomend this book because of its completeness. Our careers section www.echoscribe.com/careers.asp
Excellent book for med trans students (coming from one!).......2000-05-27
I am so glad that I bought this book! It is very helpful and insightful. I am currently in a two-year Associate of Science in Medical Transcription degree program, and while I am very happy with my training at the college, I felt clueless as to: how to start looking for a job, what I should look for in a position, what to expect in salary for my first job, how to do my resume with no on-the-job medical transcription experience, etc. This book covers it all! It has good information on all of the above mentioned topics AND stories from working medical transcriptionists and how they got their first jobs. It also has websites relevant to medical transcription and many more tips including a chapter on "tricks of the trade." This is an excellent book if you need ideas on how to start after you graduate. I highly recommend it for any medical transcription student!

Book Description
In this seminal work, the authors argue that there are distinct local factors that shape the environment of economic development decision-making. These factors, taken together, constitute a community’s local civic culture. Using survey and case study data from U.S. and Canadian cities, the authors make the case that different cultures will produce different types of economic development policies, and that local civic culture will effect the whole array of local policies. The focus on economic development policy provides a window on local decision-making and allows for the development of a theory, introduced by the authors, about the role of local civic culture in framing local decisions of all types. This ultimately provides a theoretical vehicle for categorizing cities and predicting policy outcomes. The book concludes with an overview of what is known about the economic development process and highlights the questions raised about that knowledge by the analyses used here and the focus on civic cultures. New research questions are posed and new directions raised for continued application of a local civic culture approach toward understanding urban policy processes.

I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.......2000-10-09
I've seen other 'dirty' joke books, but they don't even compare to this one. Livelsberger gives his book style -- trashy style!

Whoever wrote these jokes must be twisted . . .but God, are they funny
I'm still laughing........1997-05-06
When I was reading it, I couldn't stop laughing. Now, a week later, sometimes I bust up laughing when I think of one of the jokes. My friends think I'm nuts

Book Description
The 21st century promises to be the greatest period of growth in musical expression the world has ever known, as new technologies have made it easier and less costly to produce and distribute creative works on a worldwide basis. Copyright law and the ownership of intellectual property will continue to be the lifeblood of the music industry and the source from which the income of musicians will be derived. This book will give you a thorough understanding of copyright law as it applies specifically to music. In an easy-to-understand style, it explains the relevant provisions of U.S. copyright law and demonstrates how they are used in the music industry. From the Statute of Anne in the early 18th century to recent lawsuits against MP3-swapping services, this is the most comprehensive guide to music copyright ever created. David J. Moser is an entertainment attorney who primarily represents music industry clients. He is also a professor in the Recording Industry program at Middle Tennessee State University, where he teaches courses in copyright law and music publishing. In addition, Moser has written articles on entertainment law for numerous publications, including Billboard and Entertainment Law and Finance. He lives in Nashville and is a member of the Copyright Society of the United States, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Customer Reviews:
Save me...........2005-03-22
Being in the copyright profession I have read numerous copyright and IP related books and this one is the worst one I have ever suffered through. I actually had Moser as a professor in college and thought I would give his book a try. I'm not sure why since every student hated his class with a passion. But I figured surely his book would be somewhat better.....I was wrong. This book is no different than most of what is out there. It gives no new perspective, just rehashes the same old same old we have been hearing about for years. I had a hard time with this book keeping my attention. If you are completely new to copyright and IP one could benefit, but I think there are other books out there that are easier to read and give a great overview. If you are an IP "scholar" skip it completely. You will be bored to tears.
Great Book For Musicians.......2003-09-28
This is a very useful and practical book especially for musicians like myself who want to know how their music is legally protected. Its written in an easy to understand style with lots of interesting examples. If you want to learn about copyright, this book is well worth it.
Exceptionally Informative Book.......2002-03-31
Music Copyright For The New Millennium is an extremely useful reference for anyone involved in the music industry. The book's author, David Moser, writes in a very easy to understand style and provides many examples and tips to illustrate how copyright law really applies to real life situations. It also clears up many of the common misconceptions musicians have about registering copyrights, co-ownership of songs, etc. The last chapter which covers the most currently controversial issues involving copyright and the use of music on Internet is especially informative. If this book existed when I started my career in the music industry, I would have been much more knowledgeable and avoided many problems.
Book Description
Knowledge of copyright law is essential to anyone who hopes to have a career in music. It fosters an environment where musicians and songwriters can share their creations with the public and know that their music will not be manipulated or misused without their consent and, most important, that they will be paid for their work. Without copyright law, there would be far less incentive for anyone to make music, and almost no incentive for record labels to produce, market, and sell it. Understanding copyright law is particularly relevant today, as Internet file sharing and CD burning have made music copyright law front-page news. In this book, David J. Moser provides students, educators, lawyers, and anyone in the music industry with a thorough understanding of copyright law, what it protects, the benefits of registering a copyright, and what to do when your copyright has been infringed. Controversies involving copyright and online music are also discussed in detail, with case studies of the recent blockbuster cases in this area, including the lawsuits against Napster, Grokster and more. Although written in clear and readable language, this book is an in-depth resource providing detailed explanations of copyright law's application to music and has been used as a text by institutions such as Fordham University Law School, Loyola University, New York University, Northeastern University and UCLA.
Customer Reviews:
Amazing book!!.......2006-03-27

Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2006-03-11
I really liked it because it had alot of ideas in regard to makeup for the various soap opera vixens. The pics were beautiful and the artist and his work are excellent. Definitely something to check out.
looking for something new.......2006-03-07
I was really looking for something new since I have sooo many of the modern make-up books out, but this wasn't it. If you're a beginner or you're really into soap operas this might be the book for you, but it's not for me.
Beautiful and informative.......2006-02-15
I loved this book. It was beautiful and informative. The photos were some of the best I've seen of some of the most beautiful soap actresses out there. Plus there were descriptive color photos detailing how to achieve the looks presented. The interviews were fun and the helpful tips were actually helpful.
You've got to read this one!.......2005-11-05
Timothy Alan's Two-Faced: Confessions of a Soap Opera Make-Up Artist, was fun and informative, detailed and dishy, and overall a most enjoyable read. As a soap fan, I loved the brief interviews with the actresses - their outlook on life and beauty was down to earth and enlightening. It revealed that they're real people, with a lot of the same concerns we all have; some of which can be assuaged with the right make-up.
Timothy's approach invites the reader to sit in on a make-up session where he engages the actresses in a conversation about their lives and priorities and how they view themselves. As for the make-up, he provides detailed diagrams of how he achieved the looks, two for each model. He talks about the proper tools, techniques and products, all of which are well within the reach of any woman. Timothy's love of his work and the actresses featured in the book are obvious.
I'd highly recommend this title even if you don't know the actresses - there's just that much good information in it.
This is a must-read!.......2005-10-07
Definitely a must-read book for any soap opera fan out there! You're bound to read about one of your favorite daytime diva's, because Tim seems to have worked with them all!!
Fantastic tips and tricks are found all over this great book, and you'll also find fun and entertaining interviews with some of daytime's most popular ladies. The photos and mock-ups that accompany the interviews are fantastic! If you ever wanted to look like a soap opera star, this book will help get you there!
Both educational AND entertaining, this book is one I wasn't able to put down until the very last page. I would recommend this book to every woman out there, even if you may not be a fan of the daytime scene, because there is so much to learn from this Master of Makeup. You are guaranteed to find something to make you smile, make you think and make you realize that you too can look just like "a star."
Customer Reviews:
Gotcha #11: Unnecessary Cleverness.......2007-07-20
I forced myself through the first chapter (first 12 Gotchas) and decided that I'd rather spend my time somewhere else.
First, many practices preached in this book are questionable. Quoted from the book: "I've received strong, negative, and sometimes abusive reactions to my use of every one of the constructs above." (Gotcha #7).
The author is against himself all the time - best described in his own words. In Gotcha #11: "Unnecessary cleverness is a common problem with C++ programmers. Remember that it's nearly always preferable to be conventional, clear, and slightly less efficient than unnecessarily clever, unclear, and unmaintainable." In Gotcha #12: "We programmers are good at dispensing advice but often have a hard time following it."
The editorial (or organizing?) quality is not superior either. For example, Gotcha #8's title "Failure to Distinguish Access and Visibility" doesn't describe what is discussed in that section.
The author's arrogant and condescending attitude doesn't make the reading very pleasant.
The reason I gave two instead of one star is that the author is obviously very knowledgeable in C++ language. This is NOT one of those useless garbage books. You do have a chance to pick up some tricks here and there. But if you're busy and still want to learn something valuable as quick as you can, I suggest read or just re-read Stroustrup, or try Meyers's Effective C++.
solid C++ advice, dispensed in an amusingly grumpy fashion.......2007-02-23
There are unlikely to be many other C++ books where the word 'ignoramus' appears as often. Dewhurst's writing definitely has character. This book contains 99 items on common mistakes made by C++ programmers, and serves up best practices to replace those bad habits.
Does this sound a bit familiar? Well, yeah, there's substantial overlap with books by Scott Meyers and Herb Sutter, so not every item is a revelation. That said, C++ is sufficiently complicated that I can do with all the help I can get. This also covers some more basic material than others, for example new-style casts. It also covers pointers to members and pointers to member functions very well.
However, there isn't any material on templates here, and there's quite a lot of overlap with the author's subsequent book, 'C++ Common Knowledge', which I consider to be superior to this one. So while this is a perfectly good book, I would point you towards C++ Common Knowledge.
Better than Exceptional and effective.......2005-12-17
I prefer C++ gotchas to the C++ exceptional and effective series. Why? Because this book is much simpler. If you're a Hacker (?) I supouse you won't like this book, don't goes through the details of Exceptional and so on.
But If you want to learn the basic idioms and know-how of C++ I must recommend this one. Simpler, without obscure features... the way 99% C++ projects should be wrote.
Of course, This is a personal opinion :-) You should not be angry with me for don't say that the C++ pearls books are not nice.
Lots of little glimpses behind the scenes.......2005-06-21
This book works by living up to its title and showing distinct problem areas with C++, highlighting the wary and unwary, experienced and inexperienced, alike. One of our team brought this in, and told us he'd learned a lot, and thought that we senior members would also benefit. Having scoffed at him, we each had to eat our words after reading.
Recommended
Very accessible.......2005-03-15
I'm a big fan of books that make the topic(s) accessible to readers. This book does a good job of that. Other similar books (like the Scott Meyers' series) do a good job, but are geared towared (in most cases) seasoned C++ guys. This book is accessible to beginners, which is a good thing.
